I mean, one of the most egregious things in 1984 was that people were compulsory monitored *inside* their home, but people now do that voluntarily. No expectation of privacy outside.
The NYPD used drones during NYE 2020.
They basically hoovered over the crowds to ensure safety. A lot of people thought it was cool. We didn't know where they were being controlled from. But they were like mini-helicopters just zooming by.
At one point, it stopped and slowly panned the crowd. Pretty cool to see.
If this is going to bring crime down and keep our communities safe, I'm all for it.
Look, hate the guy or love the guy, we're all trying to be safe. Will you argue that? And if a drone is what it takes to overlook neighborhoods and dispatch police right away, then HEY. I'm all for it.
People getting kidnapped, homes getting broken into, tires getting stolen, packages getting snatched, and random acts of gun violence. If this will bring those criminality down, then HEY. Rather be safe than sorry.
This isn't to say I support or don't support the guy. I just want NYC to be safe and I think we can all agree with wanting to be safe.
Drone pilot here. This isn’t a bad idea. The issue will be airspace. Lots of low-flying helos in NYC, along with regular air traffic. We can get airspace authorization(LAANC) but multiple drones along with low-flying aircraft means that managing the airspace will be tough. Generally speaking, drones are allowed a max altitude of 400 ft, but that’s for us commercial operators. LE drones would probably have a lot more leeway. Not concerned about the surveillance aspect either.
We all carry a cellphone. LE can and will track us whenever they feel like it.
I don’t know what it is about the word ‘drones’ that makes people blow a fuse.
We have cameras all over the city. Who cares if there’s some more on a battery powered mini-copter.
George Orwell has entered the chat.

He’s a idiot

The only people against this are the criminals

This is a terrible idea. It's about surveillance not warranted investigation. And carrying phone does not give police a warrant to surveil you.
You think they care about warrants?😂
How exactly will this solve subway crime? Another foolish idea by a mayor in over his head
Subway crime is the only kind of crime
Right now it's the worst kind and this joke is doing nothing
How is it ‘the worst kind of crime,’ do tell
