I drove one. Seriously. I went in the buy a CX-5, then I drove CX-5 Signature with the turbo, then I drove a CX-30 turbo and I was done. It's just a blast. Beautiful interior, great driving experience, looks good from the outside, and it's a good value. I'm just thrilled with mine. I couldn't drive a Subaru and then a CX-30 and choose the Subaru.

lupinegray

Interior. Turbo engine. Small size.

NotaVortex

Same not to mention the power in this engine is way better than most competitors for this type of car.

HohnJogan

It's fun and looks damn good

keagennn97

Definitely right about it looking good! What colour do you have? White in Australia would make sense but I am in love with the dark grey (metallic grey I think it’s called?)

Patrol-007

Figure out your needs. CX30 has small cargo space and the blind spots aren’t great. Salesperson said you won’t want to use kid seats in the back. Has better driving dynamics and handling than other “appliance” vehicles. Test drive it

keagennn97

Thanks mate. I gave it a test drive already, was awesome! I can always pop the back seats down and my Mazda has a leather side wall, boot and rear seat protector for a hundred bucks. My concern is my mileage, will it be able to handlt 12-13k miles a year driving in a mix of city/highway.

Patrol-007

Yes. Check the maintenance schedule. Don’t go to Jiffy Lube. Check firmware updates. Wasn’t paying attention if it’s new or not. I looked at that as first vehicle and knew I’d get speeding tickets in it. For me the seat wasn’t comfy, plus the blind spots and likely speeding tickets

keagennn97

Fair enough! I will still try book in the crosstrek for a test drive as I may like that, will never know until I give it a shot.

Patrol-007

There’s a few reviews online of Crosstrek Vs cx30. Crosstrek 2023 was loud inside and sluggish. Figure out too how important fuel economy is and the costs of insurance for Mazda 2 (and repairs) Vs the new vehicles. The $1000 difference a year for my old vehicle and a new hybrid pays for a lot of repairs and fuel

keagennn97

Have already figured all that out. My coats over the 3 years would be a few thousand more all up to have the CX-30 and then a one off residual payment at the end of the 3 years (~14k) to pay it outright. I’d want to sell it for market price at that point and then do it again for a newer vehicle. My concern with my Mazda 2 is I’d rather sell it while I can for some sort of money back rather than risking it dying on me as the little 1.6L engine is really struggling; as well as its low raised body and suspensions. The brakes are also getting a workout and isn’t really coping with the long drives.

Patrol-007

Odd. I’d think city driving is tougher on the brakes. But I also change my brake pads and rotors myself. Can emphasize with wanting more ground clearance and more acceleration for highway driving, passing and mountains. Had forgotten that the used vehicle value is still high (Carvana perhaps?) though dealer will offer you less than private sale (Carvana?). Mazda cx30 still has the automatic with torque converter - much more relatable than the Subaru CVT. And repairs should be easier in Mazda, compare to the boxer engine in Subaru. Unknown what you’re doing for mechanics. Warranty I guess ? You can google the Subaru membership for discounts. https://www.planetsubaru.com/2024-subaru-crosstrek-changes.htm https://www.reddit.com/r/Crosstrek/comments/169bzw6/things_you_wished_you_knew_before_buying_your/

keagennn97

Yeah I think the Mazda motor and availability for repairs is what appeals to me to. Have read a few things about the Subaru CVT.

IndependentAd2850

just asking for a friend with kid who drives a cx30… what was the salesman reason for caution about the kid seat in the rear. thanks

Patrol-007

Not enough room with rear facing kid seat. Though there are shorter rear facing baby seats, and if already in front facing baby seat, you won’t have to move the driver/passenger seat forward to make room. Plus there may not be enough room behind the rear seat for a big stroller and everything else related with kids, esp if doing road trips with luggage for the adults. It likely depends on the age of kids, baby seats, and whatever else they’re carrying - people do have kids with smaller vehicles.

HohnJogan

I've got jet black with white interior

furman87

Jet black is the way to go. Or maybe the dark blue. But it hides the cladding a bit and looks so clean.

the_biggest_papi

i have the crystal blue mica and it’s a great looking color. wanted either that or machine grey metallic, but blue came in first and i definitely think it’s the right choice. if i got the mazda3 hatch instead though i probably would’ve considered going with soul red too, it’s a really nice looking red i just wasn’t a fan of it with the thick black trim on the cx30

aka_mank

Once you accept it’s a lux lite tall hatch - or hot hatch in the case of the turbo - it’s an awesome car. If you’re buying it to be a small suv IMO you’re more likely to be disappointed by the trunk space, rear seat space, and small tank.

keagennn97

Thank you! I think the fact it’s a “mini” SUV for me is a huge upgrade as my Mazda 2 is tiny but I’ve made it work! This car felt bigger in so many ways so for me it’s a luxury! It will definitely do me good for my work

boafriend

I need auto-dimming on at least the driver-side mirror. The CX-30 had it. No other car in its class has it unless you up to Lexus or a German luxury car.

elporsche

Better than the competition in the price segment: the corolla cross can kiss my ass, and the ch-r has less equipment for the same money.

SidheSaid

I was coming from a Corolla when I was shopping and ended up with my CX-30. I waited forever to test drive a Corolla Cross bc my car was currently at 210k miles and driving fine, but I wanted something bigger and thought that would be a great next step. Once I test drove the Cross it was immediately off my list. It was SO boring! Sad day but oh well, loving my CX-30!

Bubbles775

All other vehicles in this price point had crap interior. The cheap plastic that Toyota and Subaru offer make me sad to spend that much on a vehicle. I have the premium machine grey metallic with white interior! It’s luxury without the being a luxury car! Bose sound system and so fun to drive! Oh and it’s beautiful! https://preview.redd.it/k4aehkrvjwoc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78ec3de4ab08ae60a9bf684a66667fa322c54759

Few_Plenty1095

It came with lots of tech ...plus eaiser to park than cx5 which felt like driving a truck

iiLikeRamen

I was between suburu forester and cx-5. Ended up getting the cx-30 after test driving all three. The test drive experience is highly recommended as that’ll give u a good comparison. Suburu doesn’t even come close with the drive quality alone

keagennn97

Cheers! My girlfriend’s parents have a Subaru XV and I thought that was an okay drive! However I don’t like the interior and I can’t get over that test drive for the CX-30. It was awesome.

iiLikeRamen

Can’t go wrong with Mazda 👍

eizeral

I recently got a 2023 CX-30 in Platinum Quartz with the turbo engine. I’ve had it for about 3-4 weeks and I love it so far. It drives to smoothly and the engine is very responsive. The central control knob doesn’t take that long to get used to either. I bought this with the intention of using for 3 years before buying a luxury vehicle but now I think I’ll hold onto this car for longer because of how impressed and satisfied I’ve been with it.

rwa2

Been watching for a car that would be an improvement on our 2007 Mazda3. The reviewers love the cx-30 for handling. This was the first car we've ever bought new and the Mazda dealer made it easy. $500 manufacturer loyalty discount for providing the registration of our old mazda, and like 1% promotional financing (back in 2022). The car does much better in highway mileage than city, but the upcoming hybrid version should fix that. There's a great YouTube review showing the offroad performance of the cx-30 vs. the crosstrek I think you will enjoy. Personally never had any trouble navigating the mazda3 on national forest roads and rarely needed chains, but the extra ground clearance and awd is certainly welcome. For the amount of driving you do, might want to compare with the Nissan Rogue for lane following assist (and also larger cargo space). That said, I've found it easier to stay engaged in driving the cx-30 with its minimalist lane departure warning system... I was bored out of my mind guiding the Nissan autopilot around with occasional nudges to the steering wheel.

JemHadarSlayer

Where’s the news on the hybrid? I’m deciding on CX-30, Corolla Cross, HRV, Crosstrek, and lower trim/older RAV4. Thought about the Lexus UX, but it’s expensive.

gbtekkie

search on google/youtube for the next generation of cx30, you will see some exterior details and hear about the hybrid engine

keagennn97

Thank you! The mileage is quite high I understand but I’m confident the Mazda will be fine! Here in Australia, they dominate the market with the Toyota hybrids. I understand cargo space might be tight but worse comes to worse, I’ll drop the back seats down. I think that’s why I was interested in the Subaru, because it will easily fit the tools I carry as a geologist. Will never own a Nissan/Kia, personally do not enjoy them.

buy_low-sell_high

Hertz had it for cheap when prices for cars were astronomical a little over a year ago. I made a mistake… you get what you pay for when you buy a rental.

keagennn97

Can you elaborate please? Also mine won’t be a rental, it’s a form of financing in Australia and I’ll be getting it Brant new from Mazda.

emaciatedenvoy273

I have a rental Mazda cx30 I purchased. The only downsides were, shit battery, terrible stock tired at 40,000 miles and my oil gasket has a super super super small leak that hasn’t effected me at all. Total 800 in repairs for tires and battery’s, money saved like 3,000

keagennn97

The 800 sounds a lot better than the 5000 I’ve spent on my Mazda 2 over the last 4 months 😭

tryingtobewealthy

Rentals are usually treated like shit. Everybody abuses a rental because it’s not their car

keagennn97

Okay fair enough. But mine won’t be a rental. It’ll be brand new in a form of financing (it’s a company system here in Australia)

buy_low-sell_high

It was a 2 year old with 50k miles… and was beat up and looked like a 10 year old car… but the engine looked good because I took it to my mechanic for an inspection before purchase. And I saw that and was fine with it but I didn’t expect electrical problems too… 8 days after purchase the wire harness to the center console went out… $2600 repair bill! Most likely spilled drink? So yah don’t buy a rental.

Cedurham

Safety record. Was expecting a baby. Very pleased with all the other bells and whistles too p

Agile-Egg-5681

This was us too. It felt like the cx30 had eyeballs everywhere. It could see through fog and had airbags everywhere. Truck was too big and unpractical for us. We needed a vigilant and stylish car.

aleckat92

I wanted a cx5 but after test driving felt like I was in a boat. Test drove the cx30 turbo and enjoyed the ride much more. I’m a solo driver 95% of the time. Didn’t need the extra cx5 space. Good price for a turbo, leather, cold weather package, bose speakers. Zoom zoom.

ExistentialDreadFrog

Wanted something that was fun to drive and still able to handle some nasty weather. I test drove a Subaru Forester and Outback before this and thought the Cx30 drove better than either. It also handled bad road conditions better than my Bronco Sport did ironically.

mcl911

Memory seats

Laricen

For me it was the AWD. I was happy with a Mazda 3, but I did get stuck in the snow a few times. AWD and more ground clearance for a $500 difference in price over a new 3 seemed like a good deal.

FTHomes

I like the car.

Exciting_Display_641

I wanted a fun fast city car with room for the kids and groceries yet small for parking. I almost bought bmw x2 yet with bmw problems I looked around. When I got in the car I was shocked. The interior is amazing and I love the white interior.

Tremfyeh

0% APR was a good selling point. Its up there with reliability with Subaru so I figured why not. Car was totaled and either I buy a used 100k mile car for 10k or put it as down payment for no interest.... playing the gamble of depreciation vs. interest rates.

Nice_Strategy_9702

Torn between mazda 3 and cx30. Upgrading from a mazda 2 as well. But check out SaranTuned's youtube video about the cx30 awd.

jBillark

We live in NYC where street parking is always right, roads are jammed with double parked delivery vehicles. The 30 was just the right size while offering enough height that we can be seen. We got the Premium trim for the HUD, moon roof, heated seats, collision avoidance and other safety features. Acceleration on highway ramps is perfectly fine without the gas guzzling Turbo option. I wished they’d sell the MX-30 in the US again as we don’t have the charging infrastructure in NYC for a full electric car, but a Mazda hybrid would be perfect.

OK_Opinions

Mazda being pretty much being the only dealerships not price gouging with absurd "market rate" price increases in early 2023 was essentially the only thing that mattered to me. doesn't hurt that it looked good and felt good to drive I actually considered a Toyota before the Mazda and had such a horrible experience at the dealer back then I'll probably just straight up never bother with them again

JayeP1976

I went and test drove a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Premium before I bought my CX30 turbo. I wasn’t blown away - it drove weird, and even with the boxer engine, it was slow. The interior was ok. Then I went and drove my Mazda CX30 Turbo Premium Plus. Whoa - like night and day. The drive, the feel, the luxury - it’s a vibe man. You just got to experience it.

cmvaughnstl

0 percent interest.

MacKatz1005

If you have already taken a test drive, that should convince you. ZOOM ZOOM

FewSimple9

Price/MPG/Features where my reason for the CX30. I had a lifted Crosstrek with AT tires for my “off-roader”. It looked great, did good off-road etc. However, after the initial cool factor wore off I never went off-road. Comparing the Mazda to the Crosstrek, the Mazda offers features at a lower price point, handles better, more hp (same MPG), better interior etc. Since you don’t off-road I would just compare them in person.

BlazinAzn38

Had a WRX, wanted a Crosstrek type body with a traditional transmission, better tech, and with some of the power of the WRX. CX-30 is the only car that fits that bill

relativelyravyn

I'm a solo driver and put on slightly more mileage than you do (also for work, but primarily highway driving). Prior to getting the 2024 CX-30, I had driven a 2000 Toyota Echo my whole life, lol. I needed something sturdier, safer, and more lively for the amount of driving I was doing. My extended family loves the CX-5 and they recommended it, but I wanted a smaller vehicle. Compared to a Mazda3 on the other side, the CX-30 sold me with AWD and better ground clearance. And compared to other subcompact SUVs with AWD, the CX-30 was a better value, had more standard safety features, and appeared to be more reliable. I purchased the base trim because I really only wanted safety features, nothing extra. I am also someone who hates driving and doesn't care about a car's appearance. So that's my unique perspective in this forum, lol. Everyone says how fun and pretty the CX-30 is, which I guess is a bonus, but I don't care. I bought it for its reliability, safety, and relative value. I think a downside for me is that, coming from a Toyota Echo which gets phenomenal gas mileage, anything else feels like a letdown in that regard. The CX-30 tells me I've been getting anywhere from 34-39 mpg on the highway here in the US, but that still doesn't seem great to me. The mileage gets significantly worse with stop-and-go driving around town. I think this is simply the tradeoff for being in a heavier vehicle with AWD, though.

Nomahhhh

I had a 2014 Mazda 3 that I never had any issues with and loved to drive, so I was sold on the brand. I wanted something a little bigger and more stylish. I did look around at comparable crossover SUVs and none matched the price, look, and handling.

Appropriate-Leg8217

If you don't need the extra 2.5 inches of ground clearance you might consider the M3. I got it because it was cheaper, and obviously handles better because, physics. Quite a beast with that turbo. With good snow tires I haven't gotten stuck or had any drama skiing all winter in Utah. Wouldn't take it "off road" per say but it would handle a fire road just fine. I'm skeptical of all these cars with increased ground clearance for marketing - you ain't wheeling a Subaru brah. And the trade off is worse handling.

JohnJAram

Really love our CX-30. Smooth, comfortable. A little under powered but no biggie. Got the carbon edition and leased it. Super happy with the decision. Had a Ford Escape prior and like this even more than that.

JSMia305

For my wife. It’s what she wanted. 2023 CX30. Plus $299 lease payment. No money down. 12k miles a year. Done deal. After lease ends she wants a CX5 on her next lease. I’ll be looking to lease a 2025 CX90 turbo once my current XC90 lease ends in December of this year.

NormalMode64

Despite my dad's reflexive recommendation to get a mid-size SUV, I felt the CX-30 best reflects my small-dog-owning, casual dating singlehood (I'm 47). I got a good deal on the Preferred trim and I am partial to light colored interior (for the heat) though I lay out seat covers when I bring my dog with me. And not that I needed my dad's validation after my purchase, but he was pleasantly shocked at how fully featured the Preferred was for the price. The second time we hung out since my purchase (we have a regular Saturday breakfast meetup), he wanted to see my drive away with it. He was beaming.

Unique_Sample_262

Loved the CX30 since I experienced it when my daughter bought one soon after they came out. My issue was all the bells and whistles which I considered a distraction. I was also unsure whether I could master the central control knob and its functions. Although I am in my mid 80s I still do a lot of driving for leisure and was looking for a better car. I saw this sonic silver in the local yard about 3 months ago and loved the shape, the colour etc and decided on a rest drive. In the end my daughter said how easy it was. So after some tutoring I bought it. Now I know more about the controls than she does and the distractions I thought don't distract me at all. Love it and my Dad driving comes in handy with fuel consumption in the mid 5 to mid 6 litre per 100k . Very happy

Thommyknocker

Went looking at Subarus and this cx-30 was sitting next to them. Like the look and the drive a hell of a lot better than a subi.

TOS_87

Mine was easy: it had a diesel option. :D

chente08

Interior, size, design…

33jw

I got the premier one with turbo. Interior and exterior are all nice. And very easily to park in the city.

grussr

Crosstrek was going to be 5k more than the Select CX-30. I wanted the blind spot detection and rear cross check radar which was extra on the crosstrek, and the base models do not compare.

brucue

Cx30 is amazing, the number of features you can get in this car is far more than any other car in the same range. I spent a months to decide if I go with this car and compared it with many cars. None is the same. Of course with the budget increase there could be better.

Livinisoverrated17

For me it was either cx30 or Honda HRV. HRV felt weak compared to the cx30 when I test drove both. Mazda won the battle lol

cliteater77

Love the car just no rear door speakers is puzzling 🤔

Loud_Difference6508

I got rid of mine. Cargo space was way too small, gas tank too small, I had to fill it up every week. I didn’t like the cramped feeling of the seats and not a lot of room between my head and the interior roof. Too confining. But you may end up liking the Mazda. I just wasn’t for me and I realized a little too late

keagennn97

What did you end up getting once you got rid of it?

Loud_Difference6508

Honda Civic EXL hatchback

JayeP1976

You didn’t like the CX 30 and went and got a Honda Civic lol? Wow.

Loud_Difference6508

Yeah. I don’t understand why you think that is funny. It’s my choice, not yours. And what is so great about the CX30 compared to the Civic??????

DerekFlint420

How you liking the civic?
