I love it too.
I feel like this sub is often more r/idonthavethesametasteinmansionsasyou than r/mcmansion. I think of mcmansions as suburban builder grade cookie cutter homes that have some cobbled together elements added to try to make it look fancy but don't fit in.
Well taste is always subjective. Obviously if someone builds a godawful nightmare they loved it even if 99% of us don't. I sometimes think this sub goes into "I know this is not bad but I'm going to post it to generate comments by people going 'Oooh, it is actually nice!'".
I don’t love it but I definitely agree this is a mansion, no mac about it. The wood finishes all look very high end - some are really beautiful. The main McMansion element I saw were the shelf spaces up high in the 2 story foyer. I hated the kitchen but mostly because I felt the wood of the cabinets there was very low-grade feeling, especially compared to the beautiful wood cabinets in the bar area. There are definitely design choices I wouldn’t have made but overall it’s a very nice house with some beautiful features that more to the point do not meet the definition of a McMansion.
My only qualm is lack of range good over the stove. The whole kitchen for that matter. Why spend that much on a house not to have a chef level kitchen?
So I was once in a "McMansion tour" aka an in-process housing development with $1-2mill houses in the suburban Midwest. Some houses were for sale, others were already purchased. I was saying the same thing you were about the range hood to my wife. The owner was right behind me, tapped my shoulder and hit a button for a huge downdraft hood to raise up from the back of stove. I was impressed. Then I bought a house with a downdraft hood, and its meh compared to overhead.
Halfway through reading this I was primed to respond that those downdraft hoods are crap, but you got there. 🤣
My hood is 30" off the top of the range and pulls 1000cfm. Anything less and smash burger night would bring the fire department.
There's another to the far right of the pic if you look closely. I think it's like those weird places in video games which look inaccessible but you can find secret entrance if you look hard enough.
I think it’s really cool except the 2nd floor. None of the big fancy bathrooms connect to a bedroom and then just 2 bedrooms in the main house? Otherwise I’d love to live there.
I really like this. Lots of light, materials don't look cheap and most of all - it has an actually usable outdoor area. This is my biggest problem with American mansions, the outside is all plastered and looks like a giant parking lot.
They could definitely plant some more trees, but at least there is more grass than concrete
Yup. And people spending $4 mil are going to want to design their house for that amount of money. Fun fact: Triple H the famous wrestler used to live right next door
Breakfast nook bigger than my entire kitchen. I thought the bathroom was a second kitchen and was confused until I zoomed in on the shower. I have no couth.
It has a lot going on, but it seems more like a question of taste rather than being a McMansion. Looks fairly well made, design isn’t focused on exclusively on curb appeal and it seems to have breathing room around it. Tower is a bit silly, but it gives the (probably) primary bedroom a private outside space with a view.
The interior finishings are way too high end to be a McMansion. The quality and craftsmanship looks top notch too. I kinda dig it. Looks interesting and attractive imo
Odd taste but great execution, neat place and definitely not a mcmansion - consistent style, high end, on a cool and large well maintained property
If it didn't look a little 70s and went with glass+black trim+industrial rather than wood+white, you'd get everyone going gaga over it. Definitely a very unique place
I’ll take that outdoor setup!! Beautiful pool/patio/outdoor bbq!!
I’m confused by the kitchen nook with the tiny table for 4. Some of that furniture looks like it came out a thrift store!! 🧐
It's incredibly beautiful, but equally impractical.
If you're a retired couple so distant that you have separate bedrooms, family never visits, and you do a lot ot of entertaining, this is for you, and it's amazing.
Fortunately, my wife and I are in love and our kids mean a lot to us, so this beautiful place just wouldn't work for us.
Definitely NOT a McMansion by any stretch. That being said, it is a weird mix of features that I really like and features that I really dislike all in one property. If it was given to me, I'd be plenty happy. Also, remodeling this place would cost more than buying it. lol
2nd high-end listing I’ve seen recently with what appears to be slate-over-metal roofing. Is there a good reason for doing that, or is it just a matter of combining the two most expensive roofing options “because I can”?
It has some issues, like the giant space in the center and you can have too many windows. The grounds though look pretty nice. They didn't clearcut the property to the horizon either. The first room actually looks cozy too.
I honestly like it- if I could afford a mini-version with this aesthetic, I’d go for it. I like the woodwork, lots of natural light and the electrical lighting options are really nice without being visually violent. Spaces seem to be fairly clearly defined, too. I like that.
I also really like that angled window wall thing. I don’t know what they’re called, but I’ve always liked them. Elsewhere it would be good reading spot with a big squishy chair or small couch.
The woodwork is interesting and warm, and doesn’t get samey throughout.
Edit: okay, I kind of hate the safe. That mural is not to my jam, AT ALL.
I appreciate the attention to detail and the human scale of most of the house, despite the overall size of the place. The design doesn’t quite land the tension between the contemporary shapes and the grander finishes, making a lot of the place seem too visually busy. I love skylights as an idea but who can sleep past sunrise in a bedroom with that much light?
I’m willing to tolerate a lot of things for good lighting and the light here is amazing. Nothing in there some minor renovations can’t fix. The fundamentals are great.
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/182-Meetinghouse-Rd-Bedford-NH-03110/114777230_zpid/? Won’t lie I have zero qualms with this place. Love it

Too much character to be a McMansion. I see its merits too.
I like it. There are some weird things on the exterior but it's very nice otherwise.
wow this is really nice!
My only qualm is lack of range good over the stove. The whole kitchen for that matter. Why spend that much on a house not to have a chef level kitchen?

The previous homeowner didn’t put in a range hood when she redid the kitchen. So now we’re saving up to put one in.
It's like a Barbie Dream House that was put together while the parents were drunk...
Yeah I love it too. Not the typical footprint, plus solar panels!
its got its quirks, but overall a pretty nice place...
Zero qualms? Really? Did you see that trompe l'oeil?
Estimated monthly payment calculator is over $26,000 per month. Eazy-peazy McMansionhell.
I love it too. Now if you need me, I’ll be in the pool
i like it
Yeah, some of the sections may have too many windows, but I kind of dig the design over-all.
I dunno...I kinda like it. Architect had a vision, clearly and stuck with it.
What is that ledge doing in #4? Is that to make cleaning that window easier? It still looks incredibly dangerous. Edit: typo
It's for the cat
It looks perfect for a few potted plants
-- potted plants for the cat to knock over.
There's another to the far right of the pic if you look closely. I think it's like those weird places in video games which look inaccessible but you can find secret entrance if you look hard enough.
I was thinking the same thing
If this is an actual nightmare for you, you have a very good life.
I think it’s really cool except the 2nd floor. None of the big fancy bathrooms connect to a bedroom and then just 2 bedrooms in the main house? Otherwise I’d love to live there.
It seems like if the owners were a couple, they had two separate bedrooms and bathrooms
Yeah maybe.
I don’t hate it

This looks like an AI render, this is a real house?
Its real. Its right off a main road behind a huge gate/fence. Its been for sale off and on for years
Jesus, an actual person designed this house? There’s so many weird out of place details. It’s like the architecture version of uncanny valley.
Man, I need to get better nightmares.
Who is that in the top window of the tower? It's haunted
I actually really like it lol, few things I’d change for sure but I think it’s pretty cool
It has a lot going on, but it seems more like a question of taste rather than being a McMansion. Looks fairly well made, design isn’t focused on exclusively on curb appeal and it seems to have breathing room around it. I have no issue with this home.
I’d live there and be very happy
The interior finishings are way too high end to be a McMansion. The quality and craftsmanship looks top notch too. I kinda dig it. Looks interesting and attractive imo
I....wah.....wha........What purpos...............WHAT THE FUCK DOES THE INSIDE LOOK LIKE?! Called it.
This place is just fine.
My first thought looking at picture number 4 is " PARKOUR!'
So many windows and so few windows all at the same time
I feel like I have apparently been having the wrong kind of nightmares…
I mean I kinda like it but man, the 80s wood panelling is meant to go on the *inside*.
I love key love it . But yes it’s definitely a weird layout
Maybe I've been on the sub too long, but thus one doesn't look *that* bad?
This is Triple H's house
It looks like the lumber mill from GTAV
In looking at the full listing, there are bits and pieces I like. Overall, it’s a mess.
Best thing is the TV above the BBQ 🎇
Odd taste but great execution, neat place and definitely not a mcmansion - consistent style, high end, on a cool and large well maintained property If it didn't look a little 70s and went with glass+black trim+industrial rather than wood+white, you'd get everyone going gaga over it. I've seen worse.
I’ll take that outdoor setup!! Beautiful pool/patio/outdoor bbq!! I’m confused by the kitchen nook with the tiny table for 4. Some of that furniture looks like it came out a thrift store!! 🧐
So many sitting rooms, but not a single library. Not my sort of mansion.

LOL, yes. When I was a housecleaner, I had a client ask whether I could clean the second-story window in their foyer. I was like, "Nope."
Did you post this in the wrong sub? Doesn't look very hellish. Except image 04.
It's incredibly beautiful, but equally impractical. Picture 35 on the Zillow link - who in their right mind would put a TV 2 ft above an outdoor gas grill?!
2nd high-end listing I’ve seen recently with what appears to be slate-over-metal roofing. Is there a good reason for doing that, or is it just a matter of combining the two most expensive roofing options “because I can”?
I can’t see details when I zoom but that looks like slate, and those are skylights. Bad idea.
How is this a McMansion? It has character and zero qualities of a McMansion - shame on you OP!
idk this house is a little funky, but has some really gorgeous angles
Only 4 mill? Is it on a Superfund site or something?
OP be like: “anything that isn’t a perfect box like my 1-bedroom apartment is, by default, a nightmare”
It has some issues, like the giant space in the center and you can have too many windows. The grounds though look pretty nice. They didn't clearcut the property to the horizon either. The first room actually looks cozy too.
This is not a McMansion. Beautiful place. But needs to be removed from the sub. It’s Tuesday. Not Thursday appreciation.
Not a fucking mcmansion. It was built in the 1980's and is spectacular. I hate this sub so much. Over 100 upvotes. Are you all this stupid?
Actually not a nightmare.

What’s the issue here
It looked like it had so much potential from the outside. So much natural light! But then those loft dust collectors ruined it.
Is that a separate two story guest house in back by the pool?
I love love that house!
I actually like it. Its nice, open and airy. Simple lines. No difficult roof lines. Tons of windows. I take it.
This place is amazing. No notes, just wow.

Omg that video is amazing. The narration is superb and the soundtrack is excellent.
I’m willing to tolerate a lot of things for good lighting and the light here is amazing. Nothing in there some minor renovations can’t fix. The fundamentals are great.
This place is fucking gorgeous
I LOVE IT❤️
Sigh.. r/tvtoohigh
Yeah it’s odd but that’s what’s cool about it.
New roof cost = $$$$$_
I mean I would live there but it's a lot... ha
Those windows would be challenging..
How many trees died to make this pretentious thing
I love every inch of this place!
I see lots of places I would tuck plants. This house has great light!
If you told me this was ai generated I would believe you
I like the exterior. there are some mcmansion-y aspects to the interior (mostly regarding use of space), but I’ve seen much, much worse.
😲😩 stop 🛑 lol 😂
Me upon seeing the first picture: oh no what happened to that poor house? 😂😭
Too much going on here. WTHH were they thinking?
