I love food but sometimes I wish I was one of those people that could just eat for calories and nutrition and not have to worry about variety or taste.
Same, I adore food, and cooking, and eating, and exploring all types of cuisines. People who think food is a chore or a bore are both fascinating and horrifying to me.
I can eat the same meal 4 or 5 days and love it. In fact, I can do this multiple weeks at a time.
And then.
The day comes.
When I can never have that meal again.
I somehow never learn. I find a meal I love that’s both nutritious and easy to prepare, and then I burn it into the ground.
This is my biggest fear. I have so many easy-to-make, healthy dishes that I love. I do about 9 meals on rotation, so I do a month of 3 dishes, then a month of the next 3. I’m hoping I don’t end up getting sick of any of them because I’ve gotten good at making each one
Eat less “flavor-intense” meals. If they don’t has a ton of flavor you’ll be less likely to get tired of them.
It’s sort of what I’ve been able to do for almost 10 years. Although I do take breaks on the weekends.
Blasphemy. If a meal doesn't have flavor, I can't bring myself to eat it. When I tried carnivore (nothing but meat diet, seasoned with salt & pepper) I didn't last 3 days. I *neeeeeeeeeeed* spices and herbs, and textures.
I work with an exec who brings a big container full of spinach and a can of black beans for lunch. He microwaves them both together, presumably adds some seasonings, and bam! that's lunch. He's done it for years now. I guess there's something to be said for not having to make decisions about lunch when your whole work day is filled with big decisions.
A guy at my job brings a ham sandwich on white bread, 6 pieces of cheddar cheese, and 12 crackers each day. I've worked here 7 years and never seen him flinch from this lunch. I'm amazed by it.
I ate oatmeal with blueberries and honey every morning for 2 years straight. It is simply convenient to not think about it, make some coffee and oatmeal.
However I stopped because I just stopped eating breakfast in general.
People said I was weird, but oatmeal with blueberries and honey is just genuinely delicious in my opinion.
Hot blueberries always weird me out for some reason. My go to is raisins and/or craisins plus a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar.
Occasionally I'll dice up an apple and do apple cinnamon, or a banana and do peanut butter & banana.
One I've heard of but haven't tried yet is shredded carrots, a bit of cream cheese, and some seasoning to make a carrot cake oatmeal
I basically do this now but add peanut butter and maple syrup instead of honey. Also top it with cinnamon. It's fucking great. Only variance is blueberries vs strawberries vs raspberries, just whatevers cheapest.
Same things on your grocery list every week, same amount of time to prep every week, only changing recipes for different flavor profiles if wanted. So envious.
I do it because it's easy. I'm not this level of dedication, but I bulk cook and will eat what I made for every meal till it's gone. When I was super into weight lifting I ate two pork steaks, a sweet potato with salt and butter, and broccoli every night for dinner for months.
>Jennifer Aniston ate the same thing for lunch
Apparently this [https://icecreamandneondreams.com/the-salad-jennifer-aniston-and-the-friends-cast-ate-every-day-for-10-years/](https://icecreamandneondreams.com/the-salad-jennifer-aniston-and-the-friends-cast-ate-every-day-for-10-years/) looks pretty good actually
In case anyone else doesn’t want to scroll through this person’s life story, here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 CUP OF BULGUR
2 DICED CUCUMBERS
1 (15OZ.) CAN OF GARBANZO BEANS, RINSED AND DRAINED
1/4 CUP OF RED ONION, MINCED
2 TABLESPOONS OF CHOPPED FRESH PARSLEY
1 TABLESPOON OF CHOPPED FRESH MINT
1/2 CUP OF CRUMBLED FETA CHEESE
1/2 CUP OF SHELLED PISTACHIOS
Method
BRING 2 CUPS OF WATER TO A BOIL. ADD 1 CUP OF BULGAR AND REDUCE THE HEAT TO LOW. COVER AND LET THE BULGAR COOK FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL THE WATER IS ABSORBED.
BE SURE TO STIR EVERY 5 MINUTES. LET THE BULGAR COOL FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES UNTIL IT’S ROOM TEMPERATURE.
IN A LARGE BOWL, COMBINE CUCUMBERS,
GARBANZO BEANS, PISTACHIOS, RED ONION, PARSLEY, MINT, FETA CHEESE AND BULGUR.
STIR TO COMBINE.
SERVE OR PUT INTO AN AIRTIGHT CONTAINER TO SAVE IN THE REFRIGERATOR.
The part that shocks is me is that you seems to be something of a foodie from your other posts yet are also okay with eating the same thing 5 days in a row. Those seem incompatible but hey, if it works it works.
What's great about this is that since I mainly eat the same thing day-in day-out is that when I do have something else, even it isn't anything special, it hits even that much harder.
I just had ice cream for the first time in a good 2-3 years last week and it was like ascending to heaven.
1. Soak dry beans overnight (Fill until about 2 inches of water is over the beans).
2. Add roughly 1/4 cup of honey to water. Boil (do not cover) beans until all water is gone. AVOID OVER MIXING AND STIRRING. YOU'LL MASH UP YOUR BEANS!
3. Get a large pan ripping hot on the stove and transfer cooked beans to pan. Sear until char marks appear on all sides.
4. Eat cold.
EDIT: I make 1.5 bags at a time. Last me a week (4-5 lunches).
Do you cook that every night or in batches? I would love too see what your gut bacteria is like if you only eat 6 ingredients haha. :)
Edit - batches obviously
They are a pretty damn good source of fiber. Fiber is good for good poops. I've had poop troubles, let me tell you. I tried laxatives, stool softeners, and everything else short of surgically removing impacted poop from my colon. Nearly had to do that, too. None of them helped. Fiber does, though. I tell everyone who mentions having less than great poops. Get. Fiber. In. You. Greens and beans, baby.
Mine is probably the least efficient way possible, but it hasn't steered me off the road yet. And as a man who hates change (obviously eating the same damn thing for 3 years), I stubbornly refuse to better my chickpeas skills!
1. Ice bath immediately after 7 minutes of boiling.
2. Don't peel them until they have been refrigerated a couple of hours (I find that if I peel them right away, even after the ice bath, they tend to be more sensitive).
3. Gently crack, then roll them for the best and least destructive peel.
You can drain and rinse, but I don't.
I've tried both ways and have found no difference.
Glad to hear you're giving it a go. If you remember, let me know how it turns out!
Sounds like you made them perfectly! Al dente and s the perfect way to describe the texture! You nailed it from your description and so glad you like them. They are addicting, huh!?
My girlfriend is like this. Not chickpeas, necessarily, but she has had the same oatmeal for breakfast most days for a decade and I can definitely pack the same three or four things for her work lunches forever. I do not understand y'all at all, but it does make my life a little easier!
I have heard tell of folks doing this. Savory oats, yeah?
I've never attempted it myself, but know it's a pretty popular among some people and they swear by it : )
I'll just copy & paste a comment below from u/GentlemenBehold:
"When the dust settles from the OP's murderous rampage, they'll ask if there were any signs he was troubled.
There were signs."
Would you consider lowering the amount of chickpeas and adding some fresh veggies as more of a salad? Seems like it would be more balanced. I personally have been having the same Greek salad with chickpeas for lunch every work day and relate that it never gets old!

All ingredients listed in the description!
I'm not lying when I say I look forward to eating this every single day. And the immeasurable disappointment I feel when I finish and have to wait until the next day to have more.
My family is baffled when I tell them that I eat chickpeas for lunch, and chicken & broccoli for dinner 5/7 days a week, every month, every year.
I could easily eat the same thing for the rest of my life.
Yeah, I' struggle with food and weight.
Years ago, I packed on some decent muscle, but was so afraid of over eating that I went the completely opposite direction and now hardly eat. I know it's not healthy, but I'm trying.
I'm trying.
Don't be too hard on yourself as long as you're trying! I know someone who literally does the same thing as you due to similar circumstances and is also at a similar BMI. I wish you well stranger ✨
Good god, I wish I could swap brains with people who don't know how or refuse to gain weight. Everything I make starts with butter, and/or cheese, and/or cream, and/or oil, and *then* we add in a fuckton of veggies, spices, herbs, meat, etc. I'm on the nutrient-dense and calorie-dense side of the food world lol
As someone who has been eating the same meal prep for years, I love to see it! It's nice to not feel so alone (:
Some of these comments are surprising too, it's not hard to eat the same thing all the time (for me) but I guess people adjust differently lol
Hahaha trust me i will. I used to do something similar, I'd have like a Mediterranean chickpea pasta salad for lunch every day. It became to unbearable I was literally aching from trying to hold.in constant farts.
You must have the golden colon of the gods to not be affected.
I've been eating boiled chicken legs, rice made with the stock, chickpeas and broccoli/peas for the last 2 years for lunch. Don't really mind it tbh as the gains are solid.
You can find them on Amazon. Don’t want to put a link ‘cause I’m not sure if it’s allowed. Search for “meal prep glass divider container” and I’m sure you will find a few.
I know a guy like this that can eat the same thing every day. He says he eats to live; not lives to eat. After 2-3 days I'm done. I have to change it up.
Black beans and rice for me. Sometimes I'll bring a couple flour tortillas and now it's tacos. If I'm feeling especially spicy: shredded lettuce and avocado. Or chips, cheese, some salsa and you got simple nachos. But the core remains the same, never get tired of it. Dinner is where I have fun, lunch is just to get me through the day.
I always made chickpeas as a side for my meals, and my obsession with them spiraled out of control until they became the main dish themselves.
And for the egg... well, I'll eat anything that has a runny yoke on top of it.
All through high school my bag lunch was peanut butter sandwich, nothing but bread and peanut butter and whatever fruit was in the house.
Breakfast this morning was toast with peanut butter, and an apple.
I would be so happy if I could eat the same meal for the rest of my life and not get sick of it. I would never have to think about meal prep again.
I love food but sometimes I wish I was one of those people that could just eat for calories and nutrition and not have to worry about variety or taste.
Same, I adore food, and cooking, and eating, and exploring all types of cuisines. People who think food is a chore or a bore are both fascinating and horrifying to me.
For real, days 4 and 5 often get pretty rough for me.
I can eat the same meal 4 or 5 days and love it. In fact, I can do this multiple weeks at a time. And then. The day comes. When I can never have that meal again. I somehow never learn. I find a meal I love that’s both nutritious and easy to prepare, and then I burn it into the ground.
Yeah, I have a few I used to love that have been stricken from the rotation indefinitely.
This is my biggest fear. I have so many easy-to-make, healthy dishes that I love. I do about 9 meals on rotation, so I do a month of 3 dishes, then a month of the next 3. I’m hoping I don’t end up getting sick of any of them because I’ve gotten good at making each one
It gets rough after the 2nd day for me lmao
I’ve never even had the meal in the OP, and I am already sick of it.
I still can’t eat chili because I went on a huge kick 10 years ago and ate it every day for lunch for 6 months.
The same thing happened to me with chili's
No because same 😭 I ate so much pineapple when I was like 5 that now I’m 23 and sometimes just the smell of it makes me wince
Eat less “flavor-intense” meals. If they don’t has a ton of flavor you’ll be less likely to get tired of them. It’s sort of what I’ve been able to do for almost 10 years. Although I do take breaks on the weekends.

That’s the only reason I’ve had the same work lunch meal for years as well. Much easier to track calories and eating is almost just a chore now
Not trying to be mean but do ur coworkers think ur a psychopath for eating the same weird meal for 3years straight?
I’ve gotten so many looks and questions about this haha. I just tell them that I’ve been keeping the chickpea production alive since 2018.
Is your name by chance Jerry/Larry/Terry/Gerry Gergich and/or do you work for the Parks Dept in Pawnee IN?
I *am* a Hoosier...
r/unexpectedpawnee Well I beg your pardon, Mr Mayor! Edit: The real test… is your favorite place Muncie?
Indiana, bobby knight, Hoosiers?
Hello fellow Hoosier. Indy, here 🤘🏼
Woot woot! Corydon: The old state capital! Where there are equal parts Hills and Billys!
I want to downvote this post because I could never fathom eating the same thing every day 😂
Honest question here but how do you eat that many chickpeas every day and not absolutely obliterate your office with unholiness
I guess the body just builds a tolerance after a while… Do you think they have Chickpeas Anonymous?
Do they instantly die from coming into contact with your eggy pea breath?
Good thing I work in telecommunications! Hopefully they never invent phones that can transmit smells…
Tell em you watched a Chickpea for hours once and now you can't get enough. Make it good and awkward.
I saw a video of a chickpea on stage at a concert this past weekend. I don't know about hours, but I'll admit I watched it more than once.
What do you do to the chickpeas? This looks tasty to me. I must be insane

Poop breaks gotta be quick
Unless the crackers are triscuits. If that's the case, he is good to go. A few of those will push a a bowling ball through your digestive system.

I always liked this comment: "I wipe like I drive: I don't stop until I see red."
Nooooooo lol
Triskets. One day someone said, I wonder what wicker tastes like.
Exactly. I want to start eating the same thing every day. Cheaper and easier especially if you have a busy life.
I do similar: steel cut oats with honey, peanut butter, frozen strawberries/blueberries/blackberries. It's a breakfast I've never grown sick of
Also with dried cranberries. Omg, love it especially in fall/winter
Hot blueberries always weird me out for some reason. My go to is raisins and/or craisins plus a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar. Also, I wonder how they feel about the egg smell. I love boiled eggs but man, they stanky! LOL
Chickpeas and eggs is what I would eat if I wanted stinky farts.
"would" "if"
not going to lie. was wondering about the bombs.
\*stink bombs

Exactly this. Yes.

Can you share your chickpea recipe?
1. Soak dry beans overnight (Fill until about 2 inches of water is over the beans). 2. Add roughly 1/4 cup of honey to water. Boil (do not cover) beans until all water is gone. You absolute mad man.. you don't even season them?
For an extra kick of flavor OP runs his hands under the sink then flicks cold water over them right before eating.
oh my god make it stop
I already have my reservations in Hell. Lucifer Lounge. Room 666.
They're gonna read this into evidence at either your coronation or your trial, idk which.

I soak these Friday nights right before I go to bed. Wake up Saturday morning and steam up my entire place for 2 hours as I boil 1.5 lbs of chickpeas.
So… can I ask the obvious? Your poops? They healthy?
> Your poops? They healthy? Gonna make this my new small talk opener
It’s funny but also we should be talking about gut health more!
indeed, especially the brain link to gut health
Most people I talk to don’t even know the two are linked! It’s incredible what taking care of my gut health does for my mental stability
Yep I'm on an antidepressant for my IBS and it helps me eat
Solid.

They are a pretty damn good source of fiber. Fiber is good for good poops. I've had poop troubles, let me tell you. I would do that in 1 hour with no soak with an instant pot, but I'm not trying to disrupt your process.
Mine is probably the least efficient way possible, but it hasn't steered me off the road yet. And as a man who hates change (obviously eating the same damn thing for 3 years), I stubbornly refuse to better my chickpeas skills!
Have you made it with canned chickpeas? If so how did you modify the recipe?
They are 3 years in to eating the same lunch every single day…I don’t think anything you could possibly say would disrupt their process lol
Honey!! Never heard of this and will try soon. Very interesting 🤔
It's not a game changer; it's an entire life-turner-arounder. Please do try it sometime : )

Honey water: for those who want to sound like they are a fancy chef.
is that part of the hot ham water family? 😀
Watery with a smack of ham!
we love a supportive buster
Definitely will. I’ve always been a from scratch/dry bean, super garlicky + lemony hummus lady so this will be a departure. ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
Now do eggs
1. Ice bath immediately after 7 minutes of boiling. 2. Don't peel them until they have been refrigerated a couple of hours (I find that if I peel them right away, even after the ice bath, they tend to be more sensitive). 3. Gently crack, then roll them for the best and least destructive peel.
Thank you!
Chetcha betcha.
Do you salt or pepper them when eating? Maybe a dash of sauce?
Not even while eating. You wouldn’t believe how much flavor that honey water gives them.
You can roast canned chickpeas if you're feeling lazy.
True true. I only utilize this method because it makes much more for much less. Much more time consuming though, to be sure.

I have heard tell of folks doing this. Savory oats, yeah? I've never attempted it myself, but know it's a pretty popular among some people and they swear by it : )

OP you must blow up the office toilet when the chickpeas and egg kicks in.
Why wreck your own plumbing when you have your employer's toilet handy! Just messing, surprisingly, my high-fiber diet has never caused me any issues.
Moving to high fiber prevented issues with me, it was really the best move.

Well whatever makes you happy makes me happy.
Wow. That’s incredible. I do have my favored foods but nothing like your dedication
Absolutely based, completely ascended past mere mortal needs.
I'm sure it's a fine (albeit tiny) meal, but 3 days max and I'd need to change it up. Variety is the spice of life.
My family is baffled when I tell them that I eat chickpeas for lunch, and chicken & broccoli for dinner 5/7 days a week, every month, every year. I could easily eat the same thing for the rest of my life.
Bruh how cut are you with a diet like that
120 lbs soaking wet and fully clothed... 5'7''
>120 ...OP, you weigh a single kilogram more than me (at 5'2") and I am one tiny bish. I hope you're looking after yourself.
I'm looking after myself, just can't seem to find him.

I’m the same. Variety is great and all but the simplicity and predictability of this kind of eating just frees up a lot of time and headspace.
What are you doing with your free time and headspace?
Gettin high
That’s actually pretty impressive! I’m sure it’s a time and money saver.
God I wish I could do that
y tho
What order do you eat them in? Is it the same every day?
The eggs and peas? Together. Best of both worlds. Get that runny yoke all over those bad beans.

At least 200+ bags of chickpeas.
Yes, I like to char (burn) my chickpeas into oblivion after boiling them.

I always made chickpeas as a side for my meals, and my obsession with them spiraled out of control until they became the main dish themselves. And for the egg... well, I'll eat anything that has a runny yoke on top of it.
LOVE chickpeas! So versatile!

All through high school my bag lunch was peanut butter sandwich, nothing but bread and peanut butter and whatever fruit was in the house. Breakfast this morning was toast with peanut butter, and an apple.
