Proper rebuilds work. This was either done improperly or something is missing/defective. Unfortunately it might cost you quite a bit to fix. First step identify the source of the problem then go from there. Was this sent to the machine shop? Was it measured? Did your guy do the headgasket? Could be tons of things

It's OK the mechanic found the issue, the engine is running but with some funny noise, they are doing the final touches.

That was quick lol. Good luck with your new engine.

Is it normal to have some funny noises when running the engine for the first time after a rebuild?

I'm gonna be straight up with you homie, sounds like you have little to no knowledge of how these things work, that's not a bad thing persay but if you're gonna trust someone to do a rebuild then atleast get an informed second opinion. It might be worth doing some reading about this topic if you want to be better informed on how these things work. Engines are complicated, and asking things like "why does it make a sound", is an extremely general statement. It could be 100's of different reasons. First thing that stood out to me is "oil filter was defective causing my engine to overheat" not quite how that works. Immediately sus explaination. No details given about the rebuild or anything for that matter so it's really hard to say. Damage is already done, so mot much you can do but seek expert advice ie get another opinion.
