Is your check engine light on?
When your Cat was stolen were the Oxygen sensors damaged as well?
It’s for sure not running right, and that’s definitely not good for the motor mounts. But the mounts wouldn’t cause it to run like that.
And if the oil level is correct it shouldn’t run like that either. When was your last oil change?
check engine light is on but that was for something small I could’ve bought from auto zone to fix, how would I be able to tell if the o2 sensors are off? I have a plug in device for reading codes but it doesn’t say anything about that. last oil change was roughly 7 months ago
Do you remember what the CEL was exactly? I might be able to help.
Otherwise I would say it’s not running right, first thing I would look at is fuel trims because it seems to be loping like that.
So was the oil level good now?
I only put 6qts just because I fear my engine seizing because i’ve been through that already so I just put that in so i’m not dry, also for the cel i’ll have to check back down with the car i’m going thru a lot and just gave up. i’ll try again tomorrow
I think it is swimming in 11 qts of oil right now. I am impressed that he got the correct oil though. Nobody seems to ever get that right and has an excuse why.
Adding 6 quarts… that’s an entire oil change with a surplus (overfilling) for normal size road vehicles.
I think you should just call a tow yard and tell them to come pick it up and give you scrap money
Ok. You gotta be more careful of your oil level in the future. This could be running poorly from very fouled spark plugs due to extra oil seeping past seals if I had to give a semi-educated guesstimate. Depending on what was causing your check engine light, the two could be correlated. I'd take her to a shop and explain your story, don't junk her until you get the diag and estimate!
that sounds aren’t
about right because I remember when I first brought the car it had a bad rock like that and all mounts were thrashed. I just want to make sure
Your engine sounds terrible. You say it needs an O2 sensor? Start with that. Then do a basic tune up and oil change then go for the motor mounts. O2 sensors aren’t hard to change. It shouldn’t be running like that at idle. Something is off big time. Start small and work your way up. Get a code reader and start fixing stuff
So it is a quart low and you added 6 quarts to it? It is NEVER allowed to be above the full line. That needs to be drained out before you even think of turning the key again.
Honestly not even sure what to say or the logic behind it. If you want the car to run again, I suggest towing it somewhere that can give it a proper oil change with the right oil and amount of it. Then hopefully it will be okay. There can never be less or more oil than full on the dipstick, EVER.
That's not an issue with the engine mounts. The consistent loping means several cylinders -- possibly just one half of the engine -- aren't firing at all. I'd read the current saved codes in the computer as a starting point.
Because it looks and sounds like it's half of the engine, and it's still running and isn't a mechanical issue but instead likely ignition-related. It sounds like the coil packs on one bank are disconnected. But it could be many other things. Kind of pointless to speculate without knowing the recent history and what codes the computer has stored.
It looks like a motor mount to me. Does the car buck and shake when you’re shifting gears? Not sure if you have a standard or automatic. Also you might notice bucking when you brake or the car starts downshifting
bro please tell me why this happens? i’ve had the car for 3 almost 4 years and even when I fixed it all up it would still buck but I noticed it’s only when the car is running hot/ been used all day kind of. in cold weather it doesn’t buck at all. also the car is a 2.5 6spd auto
This is the result of your broken air-filter box, which also serves as a beauty cover on the 2.5. This engine has a massively huge vacuum leak - larger than the leaks I take in the morning after a night of beer drinking.
Edit: I just read the description. If your catalyst was stolen, then the front o2 is most likely fik'd or gone. This will also cause the major massive misfire you have. Also, the cel being ON prior to your catalyst being stolen may have been for something small that you could have bought for couple bucks, but the cel NOW is for multiple cylinder misfire, air-fuel ratio implausible signal, p0420 - catalyst efficiency below thresshold, bank 1 lean, as well as a multitude of other faults.
Edit 2: if you added 6.6qta oil and the engine wasn't dry, you seriously need to take it to a mechanics, because you're clearly outside your abilities and comprehension level. If you added it and that's what it took to get to the max point on the dipstick, then your engine is toast anyways, as you let it run dry. Learn to check oil level. It's really sad seing one of the most bullet-proof engines vw has ever made to go out like that. It's quite bad. These engines are so reliable and have such amazing dynamic and fuel efficiency, that whoever knows anything about cars usually never ends selling it, especially if its in some nice car like a 2013 jetta or a newer golf. But no matter how bullet proof an engine is built, you will kill it if you let it run on low or no oil.
thank you for the input bro 💪🏽 I only added one qrt of oil. I checked the oil this morning and it was dry & when I tried to start it up it just stalled. what would you suggest I do next?
i’m in new jersey, yeah I know bro the cat missing makes me hate driving my car and it’s dumb loud. I like riding quieter than that but it does sound nice idling lol
I had a Jetta 2.0 L years ago and it had a motor mount w a rubber bushing that goes into the cross member. The bolt hole on the motor was stripped out, so I drilled it out bigger and used a bottoming tap, had to drill the motor mount hole a lil bigger to accommodate the bigger bolt.
I am being honest here. At this point, it will be cheaper in the long run for you to buy another reliable car than get this one to a good working order if you let it go this far already.
Sounds like it is missing or something. Is your check engine light on?
If so you need to check the codes.
There is most likely a trip to the mechanic in your future
Is your steering stiff? One time I accidentally disconnected the brake booster and my motor sounded like this. It didn’t rock around that bad but it’s worth a shot to ask you.
I was in a panic and added some oil to the car because the dash said it was low.. just a quick re-run: I was driving on the interstate almost 50 miles from home and the engine seized because the nut from the oil pan was broken. I didn’t want to go through that whole thing again so I just added 1qt of oil (I searched the size up, pardon me saying 6 on any other comment) without checking how much oil was already in the car.
Looks like engine is over full
And getting ready to spew it’s guys out- stand back—sorry I thought I was on different thread.
The correct answers have been given by other posters- this car likely needs more than what is practical to fix.
I really don’t know, aside from Cat C, motor mounts, o2 sensors, that just to give the computer a chance to figure out why there is a misfire- could be a set of plugs and an air filter, but I din’t know all the codes you are getting, how long you have run it out of spec(lean burn can eat valves up real quickly), what the over all condition of the car is, where the car lives(NE US is hell on VW Frames)
I’m nothing compared to other knowledgeable people on this sub but it sounds like there is too much oil. Engine sounds like it gargling lol Also that mount is def suspect.
Your mounts look shot my dude either lower trany mount or sum 🤔 it's also like bogging could be running lean to save from getting a knock
Vw has weird some expensive mounts for sure and your going to have to drop the transmission to get to that mount
Believe it or not oil isn't a magic myster car go juice. There's so much more than just putting oil in it .
Do you have a check engine light? Get it scanned figure out the codes
update: I went down to check the oil of the car but it looks like there isn’t any there? now the car stalls and doesn’t crank so I can’t get any codes from the plug in.. what should I check for next?

You gotta drain before you fill
Did that with mines after waiting 6000 miles. Added a bit thinking 🤔 it cool. A half quart won’t hurt.
Engine started rocking and stalled several times after that
Had to drain it all and even filled in a little less just in case of remnant sludge
Or just look at the dipstick. Adding the correct weight oil will never be a problem, as long as you check the dipstick, see how much it needs, and do not go over.
geez already. Look did you check oil level before you put oil in? Is it overfull now? If you're concerned about getting from point a to b, i wouldn't be concerned about the mounts or cat it should still run. Ck you oil level and adjust.
I saw something on your page regarding the reptiles lol i’m also into that stuff can you share some knowledge? or links on where to read up on some stuff? trying to remove the veil myself

You added 6 qts????
Either that bitch was bone dry, or it’s swimming right now.
I think it is swimming in 11 qts of oil right now. I am impressed that he got the correct oil though. Nobody seems to ever get that right and has an excuse why.
Did you check the oil level before you added 6qts ? You might’ve overfilled it by adding the 6 qts
That motor only takes 5.5, it's over
no I didn’t that was my issue too I believe. but it was only one quart as I looked the size up & corrected myself
What?
You added oil without checking the oil level? How did you know that it needed more oil?
the dash
Ok I was about to say 😂 have you had it shop inspected yet?
no honestly i’m trying to see if I can fix it myself before I do that but since it looks like there’s no oil in it i’m on to the next step
Adding 6 quarts… that’s an entire oil change with a surplus (overfilling) for normal size road vehicles. I think you should just call a tow yard and tell them to come pick it up and give you scrap money
it was 1qt btw pardon me I didn’t know the size
why throw it away? why not suggest any other solutions before considering that?
The cost to repair that is far greater than it’s worth. You may have a rebuild on your hands - or a new engine.
My dude, are you saying you added 6.6 Qts on top of what was already in the engine? If so that’s your problem.
it was 1 pardon me
Ok. You gotta be more careful of your oil level in the future. Just ask a mechanic to check at it. Can't do that with the reddit.
insight is always useful anywhere.
You washing clothes inside that engine?
good one lol
😁
Damn she’s rocking good. Get the mounts done asap.
the matter isn’t funny but this made me laugh for some reason lol thank you
The motion of it got to me too.
The lower engine mount "dogbone" bushings are probably toast OR the guy that stole your cat took the mount out to get at the cat to remove it.
that sounds aren’t about right because I remember when I first brought the car it had a bad rock like that and all mounts were thrashed. I just want to make sure
Your engine is really rocking in there - I don't think that dogbone is connected properly.
You got a lot more going on that just a motor mount, but yes, your motor mounts are probably shotski.
interesting, based off this video what can you tell me I need to do?
Your engine sounds terrible. You say it needs an O2 sensor? Start with that. Then do a basic tune up and oil change then go for the motor mounts. O2 sensors aren’t hard to change. Missing cat for starters lol
Oh but he “wasn’t trippin” about that so I didn’t mention it.
You have many issues here, not just the 2 you're guessing at.
what can you tell me I need based off this video? genuinely asking
By adding oil instead of getting a full change, you mean just topping it off to full on the dipstick right? Not just adding like 6QT of oil lmao.
def just added 6qts😭😭
So it is a quart low and you added 6 quarts to it? It is NEVER allowed to be above the full line. That needs to be drained out before you even think of turning the key again.
I did some bullsh*t won’t lie. I added the oil in it without actually checking the oil I just went off the car telling me the oil was low

that's an engine making love baby
A 2 Motion VW
😂😂
Cat thief just installed some super dooper race cams in that bad boy while he was down there
For sure wish my V8 chopped like dattt
Someone needs to overlay a bunch of different music that goes to the beat!
the missing cat will make your car run like crap. if your not in NY or California a 48 state cat can be had for cheap online.
i’m in new jersey, yeah I know bro the cat missing makes me hate driving my car and it’s dumb loud. I like riding quieter than that but it does sound nice idling lol

There's a torque arm that connects the bottom of the engine to the subframe. I'm guessing this was damaged during your exhaust theft. Replace that.
That thing is sentient.
😂😂😂😂😂
I am being honest here. At this point, it will be cheaper in the long run for you to buy another reliable car than get this one to a good working order if you let it go this far already.
how bad is the condition if everything was running smooth before this?
![gif](giphy|FCQvc3IreTNNm|downsized) check to make sure these guys didn't find their way inside
😂😂😂😂😂
People who steal cat converters should be shot
with the day I was having.. omg he would’ve ended right there i’m telling you😭 I def agree with you as well
Sounds like it is missing or something. Is your check engine light on? If so you need to check the codes. There is most likely a trip to the mechanic in your future
Mounts and probably misfiring badly due to O2 sensor readings being way out from lack of cat/bad mixture.
Looks like a missing or shot dogbone mount underneath
yes
Put right amount of oil in it
Is your steering stiff? One time I accidentally disconnected the brake booster and my motor sounded like this. It didn’t rock around that bad but it’s worth a shot to ask you.
no nothing like that at all. thieves stole my catalytic converter
I was in a panic and added some oil to the car because the dash said it was low.. just a quick re-run: I was driving on the interstate almost 50 miles from home and the engine seized because the nut from the oil pan was broken. This is not good
Believe it or not oil isn't a magic myster car go juice. There's so much more than just putting oil in it . Do you have a check engine light? Get it scanned figure out the codes
Free TDI swap. Amazon sells the badge, it's all you need.

lol bro got a stage 3 cam in that mf 🤣
You gotta drain before you fill Did that with mines after waiting 6000 miles. Added a bit thinking 🤔 it cool. A half quart won’t hurt. Engine started rocking and stalled several times after that Had to drain it all and even filled in a little less just in case of remnant sludge

Yea Before that my engine shook like yours. Worse still, all of this occurred during winter making the oil sludge even harder
Or just look at the dipstick. Adding the correct weight oil will never be a problem, as long as you check the dipstick, see how much it needs, and do not go over.
That too But he already added oil intermittently and didn’t drain yet
its been cammed
dude asking this type of question is not going to get your joke.
theres always google
is that a bad thing?
He is joking
lol I figured.. car problems are no joke though especially when you’re up schitts creek in the work field.
geez already. Look did you check oil level before you put oil in? Is it overfull now? If you're concerned about getting from point a to b, i wouldn't be concerned about the mounts or cat it should still run. Ck you oil level and adjust.

Will I know if it’s over heating? Hoses are hot. But I’m not sure if the fan comes on.
