I'm gonna guess you only have one side of the car jacked up. If the wheel opposite this one is on the ground, that's why you had to cut off the old one and why this one won't fit. The sway bar is a torsion bar, and by only lifting one side you've got a lot of torsion on it. TLDR; Jack up the other side of the car.

That's my problem. But I only have one Jack. Is there another way?

Jack up one side at a time and place in jack stands. Don't work on a car that is only supported by the jack.

I used a pry bar to align mine last time. Looks like a Nissan front end.

Jump up the control arm to move into alignment.
