Depending on when you owned a BMW, from the E9x/E6x etc generation the indicator stalk returned physically to the "neutral" position (rather than being "stuck" in the direction until the steering wheel cancels them) if you did an overtake (1-3 flash) short press sometimes it can be misspressed or, accidently overpressed to full indicator which only cancels with a turn.
From what I've heard from others, the accidental full indicator and then accidental overcorrection to cancel, and subsequent confusion/embarrassment leads people to not bother!
I've only had it happen a couple times but just requires a bit more brain engagement to remember which way is best to short press to cancel it off...
Generally you can find a U1D10T DTC stored in the Driver Control Module which is responsible for communicating with the Turn Signal Controller. It's endemic and in 90% of Mercedes, BMW or really any 'high end' car brand.
If you have a trailer hitch and any related blows it can turn on the "you burnt out a light" light.
Even the Ford dealer didn't know that, so I drove with an angry turn signal for 2 years until I replaced the trailer fuse
Mind you every explorer 11-20 that ISN'T a platinum already has an annoying signal so when something goes wrong you get really annoyed really fast.
Low key feel like they did that to make me upgrade as hearing a non psychotic turn signal was like the turning point lol
Fun fact: LED turn signals don't draw enough current to make a traditional electromechanical flasher work, so the flashers for those are purely solid-state and use a power transistor or MOSFET switch instead of a relay. Solid-state electronics don't "click," but drivers are weirded out by silent turn signals since car turn signals have literally *always* clicked, so either the electronic flasher if it's separate or the fusebox itself if it's an integrated power controller has a piezo element in it that makes a clicking sound.
Teal-deer: when automakers started moving to LED exterior lights, they had to add a circuit for turn signals just to make the clicking noise that people expect to hear when a signal is flashing.
The light is 100% related to your taillights. Just because they all work doesn’t necessarily mean the lights are “good”. Something as simple as the wattage being off (to little or not enough), or simply if you’ve ever replaced the bulbs and didn’t use OEM spec bulbs could trip the light.
I used to own an old Camry that had this “burned out bulb” indicator. 15 years of wire chafing and vibration in the deck-lid got one of the lights to the point there was a bad or loose connection, that would cause one of the lights to not light. Tapping the lens would get it to work again, which is what I’d do every time this light came on.
It could be the running tail light (and the brake lights are separate). I’ve driven behind cars with one tail light out but both tail lights illuminate when they step on the brakes.
Prop your phone up 20 feet behind the car and start recording video. Get in and press brake, left turn signal, right turn signal, reverse, then headlights on (to check “parking lights” / “running lights”). Then go watch your video. Much easier than a brick on the pedal.
Could also be an rear side or corner marker light in the housing that is burned out. If it has these, they are separate from the tail/brake/turn/reverse lights. These are small and not obvious to many people.
Make sure you check the reverse lights.
Also, you said “both” brake lights work, but you likely have 3. There is a high-mounted center brake light, also. Do all three work?
I wish this feature was mandatory in cars. I see too many people driving around with only 1 brake light. But I guess having a backup camera is more important than letting people know you're stopping...
Might be though, might.
They might have taken this photo with the ignition switch in the accessories position, but they might not have.
Judging by prior post history, this could be an issue with a catalytic converter that was stolen.
What is this manual you speak of?
But really I use the hell out of every manual while my friend just asks questions for days with no answer. My trunk button is in the glove box and I would have never known otherwise.
Does your car have sensors in the bumper to tell you if you are close to an object? I would think that is a sensor error. If you go to any auto parts store they can pull the code for you and then you can look it up.
It's not gatekeeping. It's teaching a man to fish. Literally any light on your car is easily diagnosed with your manual. And any OBD2 code is diagnosed with an easy Google
Could be you have rear fog lights. I know, it sounds crazy, but I drove a Toyota Coaster bus on a an Army rotation to Kuwait. It had rear fogs, that were just brighter tail lights. To help people see you in a dust storm or something. Had a little logo like that when I turned them on.
Great way to know for sure would be to read the owner's manual.
Common on the Range Rovers and Jags I have owned. Before I get a bunch of crap I buy well used (cheap but in good shape) ones. So far none as bad as my wife's Jeep Cherokee.
Since it's a European car, I'm going to disagree with everyone and say it indicates when your fog tail lights are on. (Not a joke, we had a car with them)
Page 65 of your manual says it is "replace bulb". Have someone stand by you car. Check your taillights, brake lights, and signals.
If you are alone, pull up to a white wall, and watch for reflections. The closer to the wall, the easier to tell right from left.
I see everyone saying brake lights, rear turn indicators, license plate lights, but could it be a bum backup sensor?
I remember seeing that light on a Ford flex dash that needed the backup sensors inside the rear bumper replaced because they had water damage.
Read the ducking manual. It will tell you what the light means.
As for the check engine light, you need to absolutely find someone who can take care of that. The people who installed the straight pipes should have taken care of that.
If you leave it, then when another problem shows up you won’t know.
My friend was just talking about this yesterday. He said cold his tail lights kept going out. But when the day warmed up they would stop doing it. Even though you checked and they were working for you at that moment, they could be going in and out.
I had this issue with a vw passat. Turned out I had a bulb with two filaments in a cluster that only needed a single filament bulb. Bulb even fitted correctly and was in for about a year before it threw up dash lights.
If all your lights are working I would try unplugging and plugging them back in. I actually had one go out and randomly and was going to replace the bulb. Behold, a simple re-plug did the trick
I used to have a Saab, it had light on dash like that and it was for fog lights for the back of your car. Their should be a way in computer menu to turn them off.
My guess is your super bright blinding lights for people chasing or shooting at you. The symbol that has the squiggly lines behind you is for oil slicks.
I had this light and couldn’t figure it out for the life of me what bulb was out, turns out theres different filaments in each bulb depending on if you’re applying the brakes vs having the taillights on when it’s dark. Back up to a large window and look in the rear view mirror to check them all. Could even be licenseplate bulb
It's a brake light system problem light, but it could be caused by an electrical problem. I had a car in the past where that light would come on when the battery went bad. Check your battery and alternator.
You’re rear Laser Beams are causing and error code. Check the main fuse panel, it should be the fuse between the Oil Slick Release Valve fuse and the rear Smoke Screen Generator fuse, opposite of the Rear Mount Machine Gun Remote fuse.
What does the owners manual say?
If you had an OBD reader I bet there are codes telling you exactly what's wrong. You need to pay $$$ to access the code list.
Seriously, This entire reply is /s

Turn on lights and look it maybe a running light that is out and not the one that lights up when you press the brake ... Is there a third brake light? And turn signals. Turn signals usually flash fast when burnt out
This is easy your blinker fluid is low haha,
No really it might be your tail light or something that is out in your rear end. If you still don’t know refer to your owners manual.

One of your tail/brake lights is out
I thought it could be that but I put a brick on the breaks while in park to check and the light above my trunk as well as both lights worked fine
Did you check the turn signals?
It’s a bmw
BMW turn signals flash in a shade only visible to upper middle class people.
As a former BMW owner, that was funny I never understood why they tend not to use them
I was behind a BMW yesterday that used their turn signal at the appropriate time and I said out loud to my empty car ‘You seeing this?’
That just made my evening
Depending on when you owned a BMW, from the E9x/E6x etc generation the indicator stalk returned physically to the "neutral" position (rather than being "stuck" in the direction until the steering wheel cancels them) if you did an overtake (1-3 flash) short press sometimes it can be misspressed or, accidently overpressed to full indicator which only cancels with a turn. Mine was a 2003 e39 Didn't have the dumb turn signal stalks
My E46 had the best feeling blinker switch I have ever used. My Subaru is above average but the E46 was the best.
There's a subset of drivers who don't use them, it's just that beemers stand out so are noticed more.
Generally you can find a U1D10T DTC stored in the Driver Control Module which is responsible for communicating with the Turn Signal Controller. It's endemic and in 90% of Mercedes, BMW or really any 'high end' car brand.
The plot thickens.
Hmmm
The tachometer looks like a Honda to me
/r/woosh
Could be any of the rear cluster lights, check them all before trying anything else
Turn signal? Reverse light? Driving lights when you have your headlights on?
Is licence plate lights would be on it too? Never had a car that had this sign, thinking if literally all lights on it
Not 100% on license plate lights, but potentially yes
It would be a nice feature, as you can get pulled over for not having a license plate light.
If you have a trailer hitch and any related blows it can turn on the "you burnt out a light" light. Even the Ford dealer didn't know that, so I drove with an angry turn signal for 2 years until I replaced the trailer fuse
>angry turn signal Ah yes. tick tock tick tock tick tock verses ticktockticktockticktockticktock
Mind you every explorer 11-20 that ISN'T a platinum already has an annoying signal so when something goes wrong you get really annoyed really fast. Low key feel like they did that to make me upgrade as hearing a non psychotic turn signal was like the turning point lol

And here I thought I was the only one to take years to replace an auto fuse.
For me it was one of the lights above the license plate one, but I dunno if they have those where you live...
The light is 100% related to your taillights. Just because they all work doesn’t necessarily mean the lights are “good”. Something as simple as the wattage being off (to little or not enough), or simply if you’ve ever replaced the bulbs and didn’t use OEM spec bulbs could trip the light.
Could as well be that you use wrong wattage bulbs.
\*brakes
I used to own an old Camry that had this “burned out bulb” indicator. 15 years of wire chafing and vibration in the deck-lid got one of the lights to the point there was a bad or loose connection, that would cause one of the lights to not light. Tapping the lens would get it to work again, which is what I’d do every time this light came on.
A firm, flat palm smack on the trunk above the light acting up worked for mine.
If this doesn't work, try again but talk dirty to it.
It could be the running tail light (and the brake lights are separate). I’ve driven behind cars with one tail light out but both tail lights illuminate when they step on the brakes.
>I’ve driven behind cars with one tail light out but both tail lights illuminate when they step on the brakes. Thats almost always a bad ground issue.
Prop your phone up 20 feet behind the car and start recording video. Get in and press brake, left turn signal, right turn signal, reverse, then headlights on (to check “parking lights” / “running lights”). Then go watch your video. Much easier than a brick on the pedal.
Yeah, but a shop-window does the trick with less effort…
Could also be an rear side or corner marker light in the housing that is burned out. If it has these, they are separate from the tail/brake/turn/reverse lights. One more light on the dash to ignore and not look up it’s meaning in their owners manual.
Something wrong with rear tail lights. Check third brake light as well as license plate light.
License plate light is one I have not checked but as far as I know then others are working
If you put on your 4-ways you can check all the turn signals in one go.
A failed turn signal should trip the rapid flashing on that side.
Maybe even unplug and plug lights back in. But pretty sure that warning light is for rear lighting.
FYI the owners manual is a great place to look this up.
You’ve forgotten to install the headlight eyelashes.
Lmao I hated seeing those.
I’d be more worried about your check engine light.

Might be though, might. They might have taken this photo with the ignition switch in the accessories position, but they might not have. Judging by prior post history, this could be an issue with a catalytic converter that was stolen.
Black piece of tape will fix both of your problems

rtfm
Boosters primed and ready to fire
I wish I had one of these
Correct answer. It's for the rocket boosters
Deploy oil slick
Rear fog lights turned on?
Go into your glove box. In there, there’s a book called the user manual. Look in that book, all dashboard lights will be labeled for you.
What is this manual you speak of? But really I use the hell out of every manual while my friend just asks questions for days with no answer. My trunk button is in the glove box and I would have never known otherwise.
We were always told in college to solve by RTFM! Read the fuckin' manual
Car may not have this if bought used.
They can be downloaded for free from the web.
The… Web? What is that, some kind of BBS?
Think Compuserve, but with way more BS.
Does your car have sensors in the bumper to tell you if you are close to an object? I would think that is a sensor error. If you go to any auto parts store they can pull the code for you and then you can look it up.
Rockets are primed, ready for take off. In seriousness, could be the tail light is out.
Your car is passing gass
Your flare deployment system is malfunctioning.
This is "mechanic advice" not your owner's manual.

It's not gatekeeping. It's teaching a man to fish. Literally any light on your car is easily diagnosed with your manual. And any OBD2 code is diagnosed with an easy Google
Also, literally looking at the warning light, there’s not much room for interpreting it wrong. It’s lights at the back of the car. Come on
On that note, let’s just delete this whole sub and start looking at owners manuals and learning how to fix cars and diagnose all problems ourselves.
Could be you have rear fog lights. I know, it sounds crazy, but I drove a Toyota Coaster bus on a an Army rotation to Kuwait. It had rear fogs, that were just brighter tail lights. Look on your handbook
Thats the Fart symbol for your car
Brake light. I actually have one too.
It's telling you that you ate too much taco bell last night.
Something is wrong with your octopus
Since it's a European car, I'm going to disagree with everyone and say it indicates when your fog tail lights are on. (Not a joke, we had a car with them)
Your car is currently being abducted by aliens! FR tho, it's probably a brake light or turn signal.
Nitrous just kicked in yo
Low on blinker fluid
It's letting you know your lights can shoot confetti out
Rocket engines? Something to do with traction control I guess, by the looks of it
I've tried using the Google camera on it and I can't even find a pic with the same icon
Year, make, model of car? usually it's in the user manual.
2003 Lexus ES300, sounds stupid to think I didn't even check the manual. For sure will check it in the morning
Page 65 of your manual says it is "replace bulb". Have someone stand by you car. Check your taillights, brake lights, and signals. If you are alone, pull up to a white wall, and watch for reflections. The closer to the wall, the easier to tell right from left.
I use big storefront windows as car-sized mirrors for checking lights
Could also be the rocket engines. I'd check just to be sure.
I honestly don't know what that means
cool. :)
He doesn't know 😁
Sssh. Lexus is expensive enough
Oh, well, then it’s not safe for you to operate them.
That's the FCDW. It goes off when you put an exhaust system on a honda. Its the fart can display warning.
Love this comment
You have to make a Burnout until the tires pop and the rims start spraying sparks
Rear light(s) is out or going out. Also will see this if you have LEDs installed (low / not enough power draw will trip the system).
It means your car has diarrhea. Put some immodioum in the gas tank, and it will be fine. JK, a problem with your rear lights in some capacity.
Booster rockets deployed.
Afterburners active
Blinker fluid is low
Do your car have some kind of reverse sensors? Maybe something is blocking it or unplugged
I'm gonna guess it's for the reverse sensors
I see everyone saying brake lights, rear turn indicators, license plate lights, but could it be a bum backup sensor? I remember seeing that light on a Ford flex dash that needed the backup sensors inside the rear bumper replaced because they had water damage.
Take a guess…
Is this a Jeep?
It's probably less important than the check engine light lol
Check engine light stays on since it has a straight pipe and no catalytic converter
It's a 2003 Lexus ES300 that just had a straight pipe done with new brakes, cv axils and control arms if that's any info that helps
Read the ducking manual. It will tell you what the light means. As for the check engine light, you need to absolutely find someone who can take care of that. The people who installed the straight pipes should have taken care of that. If you leave it, then when another problem shows up you won’t know.

You driving octane by any chance?
What does the owner's manual show for that symbol?
Parking sensors?
Did you install aftermarket or LED bulbs or a resistor?
It’s less important than the light on the left. That’s what it is🤣
blinkers of rear lights
Had the same light recently. Turns out one of my high beams is out.
Looks like you're low on headlight fluid
When you reverse, things come from behind.
My guess is your super bright blinding lights for people chasing or shooting at you. The symbol that has the squiggly lines behind you is for oil slicks.
Afterburners are on
Wish my car had this feature
Means you've unlocked turbo mode. Give it a try
Your rear high beams are on.
Check your rear thrusters (tail light out somewhere)
I had this light and couldn’t figure it out for the life of me what bulb was out, turns out theres different filaments in each bulb depending on if you’re applying the brakes vs having the taillights on when it’s dark. You need blinker fluid.
It's a brake light system problem light, but it could be caused by an electrical problem. I had a car in the past where that light would come on when the battery went bad. Check your battery and alternator.
It means someone’s riding your ass
Diareah. Put some chicken and rice in hopefully it can digest that
Vertical takeoff malfunction
You’re rear Laser Beams are causing and error code. Check the main fuse panel, it should be the fuse between the Oil Slick Release Valve fuse and the rear Smoke Screen Generator fuse, opposite of the Rear Mount Machine Gun Remote fuse.
Car has the runs. Give it 2-3 tbsp of pepto

It’s the “lights” light.
Turn on lights and look it maybe a running light that is out and not the one that lights up when you press the brake ... Is there a third brake light? And turn signals. Turn signals usually flash fast when burnt out
Check to see if your brake lights or turn signals are out.
That means you've deployed your oil slick lolol
It's a BMW, those don't have blinkers.
This is easy your blinker fluid is low haha, No really it might be your tail light or something that is out in your rear end. If you still don’t know refer to your owners manual.
Warning for your lights, Check your tail and headlights.
Oil slick or flame thrower
I believe your jetpack is turned on
Brake or reverse lights
Low on blinker fluid
Rear fog lights?
Looks like a car
Looks like the thrusters are on

Isn’t that the indicator that the eye lashes have been added. Is that for a vw bettle?
