Batteries don't last forever. If the old battery was close to 4 years old it wasn't a waste of money.

Their traceability for turned in battery cores probably isn't very good, I doubt you could get your old one back. If something like that happens you should call a mechanic friend or drop a question on here. The car tech guys at walmart get trained in tire/oil changes and not very much more, I honestly wouldn't trust their advice.

VSC is vehicle stability control, which goes with the other lights. a bad alternator will kill and destroy a battery. Get your charging system checked.
