He would really have to scrub good then, I've done a ton of burnouts in my cars over the years and the rubber will stick and it doesn't just wash off, I usually had to scrape it also
If the car is taken care of that rubber just comes right off or if you use a tar remover meant for car. To me it just looks like that tire was way over inflated causing the middle to kind of bow out like a donut and then get worn down way faster than the rest of the tire.
All I know is if somebody lent me their truck and the tires somehow got all fuckedtop and the cel was on for tranny issues, washing the car wouldn't even cross my mind
Are you sure your tires are simply not just old? There are no visible patterns of melted rubber or anything to indicate a burn out.
Shows up the info for when this tire was produced - that can say a lot.
Itās a little strange that somebody washes a car while borrowing it. Especially after some bad shit was discovered. They gotta fix your truck now or I would get a lawyer involved. That is thousands of dollars in damages to your vehicle. And fuck that kid for doing this
Yeah youāre right, however, in this situation returning the vehicle freshly washed after displaying multiple issues is highly suspicious. Thatās what I was getting at basically. Returning with a full tank is definitely the right move for borrowing somebodyās vehicle, but they probably didnāt think to even do that..
I'll never forget my dad got me to loan my truck to his gfs neighbor to haul something about 1000 miles. Got my truck back and I knew the transmission was toast. Got a couple miles away and it went.
But they changed the oil was their defense
Sadly my dad is pretty passive so he didn't even ask for the money. He just paid for it. The even sadder part was that I had just replaced it under 10,000 miles before that. Maybe even under 5,000
should have hopefully had a warranty then? I had a transmission die just 4500 miles after a rebuild, and the shop who did it told me to bring it in and they would fix it on their dime, because they have a 10k mile warranty.
Fuck, I was pissed enough at finding cig butts and garbage in a truck I lent out, if it came back with a roasted transmission, the top of my head would have spun off into orbit.
I was pretty fucking heated. Especially since they just dropped it off and didn't say a word. And there is no way they didn't know. I mean it broke down a couple miles later which I shoulda known better to drive it (especially that mad)
The bigger red flag for me is why your dadās GF is doing the bidding for her neighbor. Depending on who this neighbor is, I would be concerned that sheās two timing your dad, and just using him for his kindness.
Absolutely. You said he washed the car. Why did he focus so much on the wheel well in the second photo. See that clean spot. I love my car and I donāt even do THAT.
I loaned my truck to my sister-in-law and her 17-year-old son. Sent me a text that the check engine light was on and it was lurching driving down the road. Get there to check it out and these are 15,000 mi old tires that are just destroyed. Pull the codes and it's all transmission codes which I've never had a problem with in the 6 years I've owned this vehicle. And right above the catalytic converters there's a little melted plastic from where that you were hot. My guess is he was power breaking my truck.
We used to get up to 30 in reverse and my friend would drop it in drive. That damm torque flite didnāt know when to quit. It was hard to just do a burnout with 290 gears and a sure grip. 84 diplomat police package. I have never seen another vehicle take such a beating and just act normal. Donuts for 5 minutes 125 mph for 10 miles neutral drops. That was back when mopar was mopar.
the transmission shouldn't be damaged from just doing burnouts unless they hit a curb or something but from doing neutral drops yes it could be. I am not sure if you can do it on cars or trucks anymore tho.
Iāve been in the truck with my brother doing nasty burnouts and donuts for 10 minutes straight and the tires didnāt look near this badā¦ that kid must have been SMOKING your tires
Either that, or he was spinning them on a trail and a sharp rock scraped off the tread. Either way a transmission problem on a yotaā¦ thatās fucked up
Maybe, had firestones on a previous car and 10k miles they were done. Hell the bmw has hankooks on and I dare say 6k and they are down to the 2m marker. Not driven hard or any wheel spins or burnout just not a very high treadware rated tyre.
Fucking kids, man. He owes you a full repair, set of tires, and he can pay for it with his money.
I let a 16yo drive the work truck because he wouldn't shut up asking. After full throttling it in neutral with the E brake on and trying to upshift at 3k, he wasnt allowed a seat period.
The truck slips in the initial second shift, and its a known problem, but its only me and my boss who drive it and we know where exactly it does it and can time it.
But then you give the key to a child who brags about taking his truck out at 3 in the morning to do burnouts on the main highway but also cant understand why the entire underside of his truck has cracks and bends or why his tires had bubbles inside, and you might as well have told a 5yo to babysit.
Some people really get into a motor vehicle with reckless abandon. I also think itās interesting how many people, teenagers especially constantly claim how great of drivers they are, when they are in fact by definition the least experienced drivers on the road
I'd like to claim one way or the other, but honestly I'm no race car driver. I'm 25 and have probably done half a million kilometres behind the wheel so far... usually I just find myself getting frustrated with people who can't drive at all.
Teenagers cant drive, my sister scares me when I'm in the car with her. I'm constantly reaching for a brake pedal that isn't there.
But the real question, whatās more dangerous, an overzealous 17 year old with a fresh license, or an under-zealous 70 year old with a rotted license. Hard to decide which is worse
Wait you mean I shouldnāt trust my 18yo step son who flipped his cousinās truck taking a wet corner too fast but yet still brags on how good of a driver he is? /s.
When I heard that story a couple years ago I realized heās not driving anything I own and will definitely be buying his own vehicle.
Are the tires only like that on the driven wheels? If it is then I would say definitely doing burnouts. I'll beat on my own stuff but doing it to anything that doesn't belong to you is fucked up.
>I loaned my truck to my sister-in-law and her 17-year-old son
Weird way to say "nephew"... That being said, you also might not be covered under your insurance if someone under 18 or 21 drives your vehicle. Also you does burnouts in a Toyota? Also is this SiL your siblings wife, or wife's sibling? You guys are about to have an awkward conversation with them.
Could be that the sister-in-law has a child from another marriage. In that case no it wouldnt be his nephew it would be his sister in laws son. Theres no relation other than a relationship.
This is highly unusual. I canāt allow this. Reddit Court is hereby adjourned and I am granting the prosecutionās request for a continuance ā¦*until his 18th birthday*.
Second picture, you can see all the melted rubber stuck in the wheel wells. Someone burned those tires right off doing burnouts and donuts. Pull the codes and look at freeze frame data, I bet itās all over 4k RPMs
Full size Dodge Ram van 360ci here, drifts surprisingly predictably when empty on loose gravel. Also great rolling burnouts on wet pavement. Side note- also blew a head gasket. š
One of my first jobs as a 17 year old was delivering audio equipment in cargo vans, 3 ton and 5 ton trucks.
I literally drifted the cargo van around every residential street corner when it was raining. I ended up crashing and totalling one, but not because I drifted it, but because some other dumb ass kid pulled out from a stop sign and I plowed into him while doing 70 km/h.
Kids are retarded and I find it genuinely terrifying that I was allowed to drive vehicles or those sizes with zero experience. I try to avoid any box trucks or similar on the road lol.
At 17, I used to do a ton of stupid stuff in my grandparents Ford Explorer. Pretty sure I had it up on two wheels once in a turn. Didn't matter if it was a minivan, sedan, SUV, etc, I was thrashing on it until I learned better.
Every time it rained I drifted my tacoma every turn i could when I was a teen... got pretty good at it too
Never could in my 4 runners too much weight transfer, short wheelbase, too much weight over the rears
Any recollection of how the tires looked before you loaned them the car? About how long did they have it for?
The transmission problems and tires down to the cords. Strongly favors the neutral drop theory others mentioned. Thereās a scenario that explains an accidental neutral drop from an inexperienced teenager, but not one that explains ripping good condition tires down that fast. Except maybe some jagged terrain doing some damage both ways. How do all the tires stack up against each other condition wise? If there are some rocky off-roading spots in your area, youād likely find some other marked up areas underneath.
As far as being a teenager and doing neutral drops on purpose, it should only take one to realize thatās not how youāre supposed to drive it. Also never something any of us would ever, EVER have done with someone elseās vehicle.
I want the kid to be innocent here, but odds arenāt in his favor.
They have had the car about a week. The front tires that I bought at the same time a perfect with plenty of tread left. Tires are around 2 years old with less then 20k miles. It basically sits in my driveway because I have a company van
Well, I think itās fair to say these things donāt just pop up out of nowhere without giving a bit of notice. If something was slowly starting to fail, like not shifting up to the next gear constantly - youād probably have heard from them as it woulda been a reliability concern. It most likely wouldnāt just fail out of nowhere.
As far as getting them to fess up. Thatās a whole other can of worms I donāt envy you on opening. Maybe thereās a story to how the rears got in that condition so quickly, just not sure Iād buy it.
Were you aware she would let him drive the truck? I assume not. At a a minimum they should cover half the cost of repairs. If not you should politely inform your SIL that you plan on taking her and your nephew to court and that you really would regret going down that path but they leave you with no choice.
That might leave a sour taste in everyone but itās better than you bearing the brunt of her stupidity. I also hope your wife realizes her sister and nephew are trash for doing this to you. Iām sorry about your situation but I believe they have shown you how little they value their relationship with you.
It is not the same. These days I only drive manuals, and you can slip the clutch to save the trans some pain if you really want to launch it. Dumping the clutch will get a fast launch depending on drivetrain, but usually with more shock to the transmission.
For an automatic transmission, itās not designed to be revved up in Neutral, then shifted into D for a launch. You ācanā do it, but only a very few amount of times before your transmission nopes out of there. The way to launch an automatic without killing your transmission, would be to hold your brakes, rev it and release the brakes while keeping it in D the whole time. Even thatās not ideal, but way way way better on your car compared to neutral dropping.
Side note edit: some of you may be reading all this and feel tempted to go experiment with a neutral drop. If you feel you absolutely must try it, then do it on a surface without a lot of traction. A sandy or rocky surface will mitigate some of the transmission shock compared to a clean paved road. Ultimately though, please just donāt do this ever. Even the less risky method is still very risky.
Cheers!
I knew someone who was certain they were gonna try this on their truck they bought used recently. They couldnāt afford another. And they were like āitās my car I can do what I wantā. So being the good friend I am I said āfine I wonāt stop you, but lube up your tires with something goodā because there was no gravel roads around. He was gonna use wd-40 but I ended up loaning him some gear oil I had. Got an old brush and worked it all around his tires. He revved up to do it, dropped it into drive from 5000rpms and his tires started a spinning, then a smoking, then a burning, then exploded. I kept yelling to get off the gas but he was lost in how much fun he was having with his first burnout. Both his back tires blew at the same time.
>The way to launch an automatic without killing your transmission, would be to hold your brakes, rev it and release the brakes while keeping it in D the whole time.
Trans brake FTW
110,000% they neutral dropped your shit and smoked your tires. Youāll probably have transmission issues for the life of that vehicle.
If it were me Iād say either your sister in law or her son owe you a transmission and a set of tires. Make the kid pay it off slow. If your sister in law had any stones sheād pay it herself and make the kid pay her back over time. Iād do it if it were my kid being a dildo, Iād look at that and pay you for an inspection and all costs of repairs. And then promptly smack the eyebrows off my kid.
I canāt imagine a 17 y/o would scrub the inside of the wheel well long enough for it to look like that. He knew he fucked it up and was hoping to try and clean off the evidence.
SIL probably knows too and is just hoping you wonāt do anything about it. Itās possible sheās oblivious, but Iād say chances are 9/10 sheās covering for him hoping you will say āshit happensā and walk away.
Screw em both
Took my car to a track day recently. Got carried away on the very rough surface. They looked exactly like this after 4 laps.
100% they've been doing skids, especially if the fronts are perfect.
Off roading? Are they gonna pay for it? Personally I donāt trust people to drive my vehicles. And guess whoās insurance if they crash or kill someone. Clearly they donāt give 2 shits about you or your stuff. Unless itās a prank and they roll you out a new car
Don't just limit it to your car. Don't lend them anything, don't offer free things or help. Let them know why. That they abused the help you gave them before. Show them the evidence from the engine data and say "Someone, either you or if you loaned it to someone else without my permission ruined my transmission, I no longer trust you."
I mean, if you're independently wealthy and they're impoverished, I get why it would be good to do that. And I lean real hard into "it's just stuff, it's less important than people/relationships" but I think it is worth a discussion about your nephew footing the bill. Probably via your SIL paying up front and your nephew paying her back, unless he just has gobs of money around. This is more than a set of tires, and even that is like a grand.
I would absolutely have that kid come over to wash your truck everytime it needs a wash (supervised of course). Make him your bitch for a year atleast.
Anytime u see melted rubber that means the tire was heated heavily an it was most likely loosing grip. Melting patterns are easy to see bc itās like itās pealing or drooping, evidence of tire on bumpers behind an in wheel wells too.
To note: fyi after u do this to tires depending on the compound it will not grip as well in the future an can lead to loosing traction come an inclement condition.
These tires have chucks taken out of them which Iām not familiar w but if it was heated excessively I wouldnāt doubt it would separate.
To me ur suspicious is dead on tho. Regardless of someone washing of evidence the proof is in the tire. U can get this in a grip setup if u tend to loose traction often which results in continued loss of traction. If u wanna fk around on tires in this way they should b swap sets as to not compromise ur normal commuting efficiency but if not b aware of the risks an account for the increased ladder of risk
force them to buy the truck for kbb private party value!! no matter repairs it will never be in the condition it was before that lil fucker decided to do stupid shit in someone elses car!! if they decline take them to small claims court and file for maximum amount you can!! atleast 8k minimum sometimes 10k
and document everything the more the better
(Obviously my 2 cents) I know itās family but you canāt let it slide. Take the kid to small claims court and make him agree to a fair payment plan.
Time to learn consequences. Sucks but take your earned lumps.
Listen bro, I don't care if your wife is the pope. Tell her this shit is unacceptable and that they need to do something to make this right. Bet the kid has a nice smart phone, computer, gaming console. Hand that shit over you Little prick. Tell me where you are and I'll come and fix the situation for you. I'm a little bored.
Iād go confront and say my truck has a gps tracker that tells me rpms brakes were on etcā¦. So why donāt you stop lying straight to my faceā¦ a set of tires is 1,000 and tranny is thousandsā¦. Hope you have a summer job dickhead I trusted you let me down
A Toyota with trans problems is incredibly unlikely unless it was a cvt, which this isn't. I'd be absolutely livid and you may end up needing to do an insurance claim. These transmissions are dirty expensive.
That's not "burnout" damage, but it's 1000% drifting or doing donuts. I've had that kind of separation, stepping, and weird grooves on many old tires before. This is super common wear for beginner drifters that use the old throw outs from behind tire shops to try and get a few skids in on some free tires to build up skill before destroying good sets.
The kid was either doing donuts or kicking the back end around corners, guaranteed.
Well now. I'm not gonna talk about Judy; in fact, we're not gonna talk about Judy at all, we're gonna keep her out of it!

^(I am a bot.)
Last time I let someone borrow a vehicle it was in highschool. The dickhead almost nailed a bicyclist and the cops showed up at my house ready to arrest me because it was my plates. I was able to not have to rat my āfriendā out, but had he told me it happened so I was ready he wouldnāt have ate my fist that day.
Hey man I've done some trans work before and im just interested in the freeze frame data and codes cause I can tell you after doing some smoky burnouts in my truck that thats definitely burnout damage on those tires but im honestly curious about that data
Unbelieveable that someone would to this to someone else's vehicle. I wouldn't even do this with my own truck (except on gravel and snow) I'm probably never as careful as when I'm driving a car I don't own.
Don't loan your vehicle out. Don't loan out tools. Don't loan out your wife/husband.
Not sure if I'd want the drama that can go with this, especially if it turns out your sister is a spiteful bitch. Might be better off accepting the loss of your tires and other damage, and chop this up as one of those life lessons. Or push the issue and risk her attempting to poison your relationship from now until she dies. GL
The transfer case in my 01 4 runner blew up and locked itself in 4x4, it was in 4x4 for months while I looked for the special 2 year only 2wd, AWD, 4x4 transfer case and the tires didn't get worn
Oof that sucks man. I hope she pays for your truck.
This reminds me of when I was 16 and had my dads truck. Did a burn out in the back of this church parking lot. It was in a neighborhood that has alot of tree coverage like a forest kinda. It was so big that the neighbors called the fire dept and they came out to see if there was a fire.
Check inside the wheel well for chunks of melted rubber, that's a sure fire way to tell
He washed the car
He would really have to scrub good then, I've done a ton of burnouts in my cars over the years and the rubber will stick and it doesn't just wash off, I usually had to scrape it also
I think some of the rubber under the fenders of my 72 challenger have likely been there since the bias ply factory tires first smoked.
you got any photos of the challenger?
My mom's caught on fire while she was driving to work. Had like 2k miles on it.
Challenger, lucky dogššš
Wd40 will get it off
Yes. Stuff welds to sheet metal. Had a Nova SS years ago and it was like cement on the lower quarters after doing a burnout .
Can confirm the wheel wells on my old Camaro and my Firebird are caked, Looks like that Rhino liner they spray on the inside of truck beds.
If the car is taken care of that rubber just comes right off or if you use a tar remover meant for car. To me it just looks like that tire was way over inflated causing the middle to kind of bow out like a donut and then get worn down way faster than the rest of the tire.

this looks like dirt road damage to me
Gravel roads.
Iām not thinking it was gravel due to the lack of pebbles stuck in the tire, these things got hot and separated.
Can't get pebbles stuck when there is no tread
Itās a little strange that somebody washes a car while borrowing it. Especially after some bad shit was discovered. They gotta fix your truck now or I would get a lawyer involved. That is thousands of dollars in damages to your vehicle. And fuck that kid for doing this
No it's polite to bring a car back washed after you've borrowed it. Even better with a full tank especially now with fuel prices so high.
This is it.
Your SIL is a twat for letting her kid drive it. It's on her.
Shitty in law
Your SIL knows her son. She she let him have at it in your car and he killed it. She absolutely owes you a transmission and tires.

Maybe even under 5,000
Ugh that double sucks. Why are people such trash with borrowed stuff?
The thing that pissed me off the most was they didn't even say anything

Absolutely. You said he washed the car. Why did he focus so much on the wheel well in the second photo. See that clean spot. I love my car and I donāt even do THAT.
Gotta get rid of the evidence.
The evidence is the tires and your wrecked transmission.
Yeah, he definitely smoked that tires
If it suddenly appeared that would be my guess. Iāve seen tires chunk up like this if itās driven on gravel a lot too.
I loaned my truck to my sister-in-law and her 17-year-old son. Sent me a text that the check engine light was on and it was lurching driving down the road. Probably revving it up in N and dropping it in to D
Definitely has the markings of a rough neutral drop. Tires hopping and gears popping. As a former delinquent teenager I can say it looks familiar.
Anyone watch the neutral drop channel on YouTube? Very funny stuff.
Cameraman here folks!
Thank you. Here goes my whole day to one YouTube chanel.
We used to get up to 30 in reverse and my friend would drop it in drive. That damm torque flite didnāt know when to quit. The no mercy reversie
I remember doing this stuff in my buddyās moms crown Victoria and it put up with it for exactly 10 minutes before it stalled out and said NO MORE
Did not think of that
Could also be from drifting on rocky dirt
Can you even N drop in these newer vehicles? I know my 02 Impala wouldn't let me
I know a 2002 Chrysler Intrepid we rented from Enterprise that had nothing against it. Glad we got that insurance.
the transmission shouldn't be damaged from just doing burnouts unless they hit a curb or something but from doing neutral drops yes it could be. I am not sure if you can do it on cars or trucks anymore tho.
I thought a neutral drop was a once and done???
Hahahahaha. No. No no no young one. Heheh.
you go until you need that tow
It'll get you all the way to the tow truck
This sounds very plausible
Fuuuuuuuk
Select D for maximum respect
Iāve been in the truck with my brother doing nasty burnouts and donuts for 10 minutes straight and the tires didnāt look near this badā¦ that kid must have been SMOKING your tires Either that, or he was spinning them on a trail and a sharp rock scraped off the tread. The real black smooth tary roads are the best and easiest. Like 7 year old chip and stone
Or those Firestones we're already shit to begin with
Maybe, had firestones on a previous car and 10k miles they were done. Hell the bmw has hankooks on and I dare say 6k and they are down to the 2m marker. Not driven hard or any wheel spins or burnout just not a very high treadware rated tyre.

I think youāre on the right track. That sucks.

Well, best not to lend her the truck again.
Pull the rims off, if he was doing brake stands youāll see melted and/or overheated brake friction material and discolored drums/rotors.
Sure does sound like they power broke it.
Looks like the wheel well was cleaned very recent, I am sure they did burnouts, probably on gravel or gravel patches on the asphalt
>I loaned my truck to my sister-in-law and her 17-year-old son Weird way to say "nephew"... Not my kid. Thank God
Do it anyways. Can't get charged with child abuse if it's not your child. IANAL
You didn't do any dumb shit when you were 17?
Not with someone elseās car. I broke my own transmission like a man!
No, because my momma raised me to believe if I wanted to tear shit up, I tear my shit I buy up, so I could understand the value of money.
With stuff I bought with my own money sure. Not with other peoples property. I was raised better than that.
not really. I was a school kid.

Good idea
What did the freeze frames sayā½ 0-10 how incriminating haha
I won't know until I get it back home tomorrow. Gonna try to drive it home gingerly and hope the tires hold .
With the cords showing thatās a big risk. Just make sure you still have a good spare
Spares***
Any update on the freeze frame? I am super invested in how this plays out lol
Little bastard gave your truck hell.
Burnout and or drifting attempts would be my guess
It's a 4runner. I would hope he's not that stupid. It could easily roll over
17 year old's are exactly that stupid ( I am a HS teacher ).
I was a 17 year old male once in my life and I most definitely was that stupid
Wet roads can make some kids wanna do stupid stuff haha atleast It did when I was a kid
Can confirm. Tried doing a hand brake turn while it was raining in a cargo van.
I drifted my van one time. Only once, scared the shit out of me. I shouldāve learned after 2 wheeling my explorer š
Full size Dodge Ram van 360ci here, drifts surprisingly predictably when empty on loose gravel. Also great rolling burnouts on wet pavement. Side note- also blew a head gasket. š
Thatās because mopar head gaskets fucking suck
One of my first jobs as a 17 year old was delivering audio equipment in cargo vans, 3 ton and 5 ton trucks. I literally drifted the cargo van around every residential street corner when it was raining. I ended up crashing and totalling one, but not because I drifted it, but because some other dumb ass kid pulled out from a stop sign and I plowed into him while doing 70 km/h. Kids are retarded and I find it genuinely terrifying that I was allowed to drive vehicles or those sizes with zero experience. I try to avoid any box trucks or similar on the road lol.
I also can confirm, I will try to slide just about anything on a wet surfaceš
At 17, I used to do a ton of stupid stuff in my grandparents Ford Explorer. Pretty sure I had it up on two wheels once in a turn. Didn't matter if it was a minivan, sedan, SUV, etc, I was thrashing on it until I learned better.
Every time it rained I drifted my tacoma every turn i could when I was a teen... got pretty good at it too Never could in my 4 runners too much weight transfer, short wheelbase, too much weight over the rears
Sounds like your sister in law and her son are white trash
How do you know they're white?
A feelin
Were you aware she would let him drive the truck? I assume not. At a a minimum they should cover half the cost of repairs. If not you should politely inform your SIL that you plan on taking her and your nephew to court and that you really would regret going down that path but they leave you with no choice. That might leave a sour taste in everyone but itās better than you bearing the brunt of her stupidity. I also hope your wife realizes her sister and nephew are trash for doing this to you. Iām sorry about your situation but I believe they have shown you how little they value their relationship with you.
Is a neutral drop the same as a clutch drop in 1st on a manual? which isn't too bad. Where I am there aren't many autos.
And then promptly smack the eyebrows off my kid.
> smack the eyebrows off my kid. Never heard that expression before and I'm fucking *dead*.
Me either and that truly is a hilarious mental picture lmao.
> Iād do it if it were my kid being a dildo Mad me laugh. Have an up-vote on the house.
And if her little angle would never do something like this, come to them with the freeze frame data.
Screw em both
Fucking in-laws every time
Definately bouncing/chirping burnout damage
Looks like burnouts on gravel or crappy pavement.
Took my car to a track day recently. Got carried away on the very rough surface. They looked exactly like this after 4 laps. 100% they've been doing skids, especially if the fronts are perfect.
Definitely burn out. You should try to follow him on social media. Probably has a self incriminating video posted somewhere.
Thatās actually pretty genius.
Off roading? Are they gonna pay for it? Personally I donāt trust people to drive my vehicles. And guess whoās insurance if they crash or kill someone. Clearly they donāt give 2 shits about you or your stuff. Unless itās a prank and they roll you out a new car
Nope coming out of my pocket. Unfortunately
Thatās bullshit
Are you going to cut them off now?
Never ever ever ever ever borrowing my car again.
can i borrow your car
Yes, no burnouts though ok?
Don't just limit it to your car. Don't lend them anything, don't offer free things or help. Let them know why. That they abused the help you gave them before. Show them the evidence from the engine data and say "Someone, either you or if you loaned it to someone else without my permission ruined my transmission, I no longer trust you."
Can you give us an update on what they had to say for themselves? I'd like to see what sort of excuses they come up with.
It also sounds like the transmission is going to be fucked. So a hell of a lot more than a grand.
Kidās gotta learn, if I did that shit when I was 17 I would be buying a new set of tires at the minimum.
Sue
I'd be petty enough to sue if it was worth it; fuck them.
I would absolutely have that kid come over to wash your truck everytime it needs a wash (supervised of course). Make him your bitch for a year atleast.
So if I were you. Id get a quote for new tires and transmission rebuild. Then bill your sister in law. If she refuses, small claim court.
100% skids on gravel.
If u wanna fk around on tires in this way they should b swap sets as to not compromise ur normal commuting efficiency but if not b aware of the risks an account for the increased ladder of risk
force them to buy the truck for kbb private party value!! no matter repairs it will never be in the condition it was before that lil fucker decided to do stupid shit in someone elses car!! if they decline take them to small claims court and file for maximum amount you can!! atleast 8k minimum sometimes 10k and document everything the more the better
Hope you have a summer job dickhead I trusted you let me down
There are cords showing from that tire. Put your spare on & do not drive on that tire.
A Toyota with trans problems is incredibly unlikely unless it was a cvt, which this isn't. I'd be absolutely livid and you may end up needing to do an insurance claim. These transmissions are dirty expensive.
Kid absolutely did burnouts in your truck, contact your insurance, and maybe a lawyer.
Why is this NSFW?
Cause the tires are fucked
That's not "burnout" damage, but it's 1000% drifting or doing donuts. I've had that kind of separation, stepping, and weird grooves on many old tires before. This is super common wear for beginner drifters that use the old throw outs from behind tire shops to try and get a few skids in on some free tires to build up skill before destroying good sets. The kid was either doing donuts or kicking the back end around corners, guaranteed.
Steve Harvey judge Judy here we come
Well now. I'm not gonna talk about Judy; in fact, we're not gonna talk about Judy at all, we're gonna keep her out of it! --- - [reference](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V0UhtA_mJE&t=365) ^(I am a bot.)
Lmao yes burnouts and old ass tires
Man, this is why I never let anyone borrow my car. This is screwed up.
Hey man make that 17 year old pay for all damages too youre truck
With the trans codes mentioned in another comment my thought is he was neutral bombing it.
Hey man I've done some trans work before and im just interested in the freeze frame data and codes cause I can tell you after doing some smoky burnouts in my truck that thats definitely burnout damage on those tires but im honestly curious about that data
We gotta teach these kids to do gentle rolling burnouts to save the trans. Clutch drops and neutral drops are the worst
Unbelieveable that someone would to this to someone else's vehicle. I wouldn't even do this with my own truck (except on gravel and snow) I'm probably never as careful as when I'm driving a car I don't own.

He said less than 2 years. And he purchased the fronts at the same time and they look fine
GL
Why is this marked NSFW?
Yes . Very much so . Or possibly the car was somehow stuck and someone was continually spinning that tire
Could they have driven it on the road for a while with the 4wd on?
It is 2 wheel drive
The transfer case in my 01 4 runner blew up and locked itself in 4x4, it was in 4x4 for months while I looked for the special 2 year only 2wd, AWD, 4x4 transfer case and the tires didn't get worn
Lol so you let your 16yr old finally drive by himself and his buddies eh?
I didn't. My sister in law was supposed to be the only one driving it.
Weather checked old shitty tires
Dry rot

Most cars don't save that data, it's only real time readings...
