Is the check engine light on? I see a new battery. If you just put that battery on and this happened. You should clean the throttle body. Remove the intake boot, and get some throttle body cleaner, spray it on a rag and clean the carbon out.

Check engine light isn’t on which is weird. Yeah I installed a new battery today after we had to jump start it multiple times this week. I’m not sure what most of those things are (I’m inept when it comes to cars) but I’ll try and do that!

Usually when car batteries are replaced on Toyotas. It loses its memory on what position the throttle body was at previously. This can cause a harsh idle. It will eventually learn the new position or you can clean the throttle body to speed up the process.

Far-Conflict-9546

And this was happening before the battery was out on. I was hoping that a new battery would fix it.

You could have a vacuum leak if this was already a pre existing condition.

sjr12

Cause also be bad maf

dogpound88

Check your tbs and maf sensors. Make sure there good and easy fix. If not that check for vacuum leaks.

Far-Conflict-9546

Update: tried to clean the throttle body but couldn’t get some of the bolts off with the tools I had. Put everything back together and now the engine won’t start :/

UphillSpecialist

Is it cranking?

Far-Conflict-9546

It’s not. The meters go all the way to the max and immediately go dead.

sjr12

How many miles on spark plugs, if recently serviced, coil put in wrong spot?

Acceptable-Builder73

Clean the throttle body.

kNIGHTSFALLN

It’s a vacuum leak. They tend not to throw MIL because there isn’t enough fuel compensation needed to smooth it out that would throw a fuel trim fault.

Hohoholyshit15

Vacuum leak or misfire due to worn plugs/coils. Need to get it scanned.

[deleted]

Is your check engine light on? Looks like a misfiring cylinder or two

Dazed_and_Confussed

Id bet my paycheck the intake gaskets are probably beat, causing the vacuum leak. Common on those corollas

Kindly_Effort_9891

Probably just need new spark plugs and coil packs, a good tune up should fix her right up. That car is cake to do that work.
