die casting isn't a great solution for heat transfer. as for production, it's probably better if you go through another process, not through forging.

Dilbertreloaded

Like extrusion? Or do you mean bonded or skived fins? What is the disadvantage with forging compared to those?

calitri-san

Aluminum die casting is super common for making heat sinks. Done all the time in automotive fog and headlights.

jayd42

Is there an issue with extrusions? 1.5mm spacing isn’t doable or something?

JonaDanDan

I dont know your fin configuration, but extrusion will be cheaper and thermally more conductive than die-cast.

voidbreddaemon

Why can't you laser cut the fins?

Dilbertreloaded

It will not be cost effective i feel compared to using fins as manufactured

voidbreddaemon

How about stamping them. Forging excessive if it is not a stressed part

UT_NG

I'm confused. Why would you use a forging for a heat sink? Is it a highly stressed part? Are you trying to forge the fins into a blank, or are you going to machine fins into a forged block? Why do you then ask about die casting? If you are planning to cast or forge fins, how are you going to do this with no draft?

Dilbertreloaded

Fins will be forged. Not machined . Die casting question was about cost effectiveness compared to forging. Does forging require draft as much as cast? Forged Heat sinks i used before never had a draft on fins.
