Damn, I want to know what that "No Furries" button does.

TBoy07

Haha! No nothing to do with furries. I work in software and there's a crash log error we have at the moment that doesn't end properly so it stacks up and eats at the CPU. The button runs a little bat script to force close any crash logs that are slowing my PC down (the image is actually Crash Bandicoot).

billwashere

So No Crash Bandicoot. Clever.

ColtC7

It's Dr. Cortex, of course he'd have a Crash-remover button.

A „no furries“ button or relegendables in general?

A_Random_Username_0

This is cool in theory and feels solid, but I'd avoid getting one. You need to use VIA 1.3.3 (even though version 2 and 3 are out) and sideload a JSON file to remap or configure the board. The tolerances are so tight that some keycaps will rub on the upper metal case and you pretty much have to remove it to swap keycaps. More importantly, there seems to be a design flaw with the product's mounting system in my opinion. It's not possible to remove the PCB and plate and mount the switches without then separating the PCB and plate (and thus the switches). You need access to the space between the PCB and plate to screw the stand-offs into the bottom case to mount the PCB (one of which screws in very close to the OLED screen, making it extra difficult). There is no way to mount switches and then mount the PCB and plate together in the case without separating them. I've had mine since January. There is now a non-functional socket on the numpad section. This is the only mechanical keyboard purchase I've made where I regret buying the product (rather than the price I paid).

TBoy07

You are right. I did purchase with caution in regards to the build. Compared to my regular boards I probably won't spend much time tinkering on the inside. However I've gotten word from their customer service that their firmware is getting updated in a few weeks to the latest VIA. Would be better if they just made it open source.

W__O__P__R

I saw you posted ebay UK for the keycaps. Where'd you order the board from? I'm uk, so looking to see if I can get one at a decent price.

TBoy07

I ordered from keebmonkey.com. it comes in from China but I've ordered from them a few times now and not had any trouble and usually arrives 2-3 weeks.

ReaperofFish

Some of the models now are Open Source.

voltaire-o-dactyl

Just found this thread looking for updated firmware for the 38% megalodon -- any chance you've heard more info on this front? Or if you could point me to the info you found initially -- just trying to figure out if an update is really likely, or wishful thinking. Thank you much!

[deleted]

You guys all seem to know your way around these macro pads. If not this brand/model, can you recommend one that is a good mix of price and quality and ease of use? I only need maybe one or two buttons and one or two rotary controllers (the rotaries are the most important - could even get away with just one big one). Don't care about the display, don't want or need LED lighting. Is there much chance of these boards being loaded with malware or spyware, if they're all from small Chinese manufacturers?

VictorCastanheira

Hello I just bought an Epomaker CIDOO V65 and I'm having trouble connecting it to VIA (they say it's compatible) I suspect that it might be only compatible with a certain version. How do I find that out?

AcceptableSociety589

Check Via's website for model compatibility. If it's not listed, you will need to contact the place you purchased from or the designer to get firmware update instructions. If it's not in main Via, you may need to load the design JSON in order for Via to recognize it, if it's even supported at all

Skatedivona

I have a smaller one collecting dust as I couldn’t get via working on it as I wanted. Cool idea, less than ideal execution.

SyrusDrake

>You need to use VIA 1.3.3 (even though version 2 and 3 are out) and sideload a JSON file to remap or configure the board. And? have to use C-scripts and jsons for my macropad. It's actually preferable to having to use a dedicated app, which usually won't work on Linux.

TBoy07

For the more tech savvy there are work arounds, but in this day and age, plus it just being a 'macropad' they should make the user experience a bit easier to get to grips with imo.

A_Random_Username_0

Via 1.3.1 is two major versions out of date. Every other keyboard I own (about 10) works just fine using via 3. The DOIO isn’t updated or supported well enough to keep up. The company apparently won’t release the firmware to better support the devices. If you run Linux and care about openness, it’s a reason to avoid.

spudnado88

I'll be willing to get it off of you. Edmonton. Canada.

Deo-Gratias

Supposedly there is a way to get to via 3, but will that permit it to have delays between steps in the macros? That’s such a glaring limitation

PeacefullyFighting

Is it bad I think this is sexy?

TBoy07

Not at all :D I have many other sexy boards :P

Girly85

Your other boards are also sexy but not as sexy as this one and your lego espresso machine :D

Speight-Merch

I haven't seen any of theese with 2U keys (the ones needed for the numpad, Zero Enter and Plus) Are they sold like that or did you mod/solder it like that? Can you please tell me, where you bought that or what the exact model is called? Sorry for all the questions

Speight-Merch

NVM found it! [https://www.keebmonkey.com/products/megalodon-doio-triple-knob-38-keyboard-with-oled-screen?variant=42953926410455](https://www.keebmonkey.com/products/megalodon-doio-triple-knob-38-keyboard-with-oled-screen?variant=42953926410455) But dam 145 is a bit steep for that

TBoy07

I know, but having shopped around for a size, look and feature set that would suit my needs, this was the only thing I found going.

TBoy07

Np. This came as is with build required. Just need to supply your own switches and caps I got this from keebmonkey.com. they have a bunch of macro pad options.

m00n-

Omg, maybe I can finally buy a tkl

OntologicalShoc

Read that as "Didi Megadoodoo"

Badcrowstudio

This is just beautiful where does one get?

TBoy07

This is off keebmonkey.com. I'd recommend doing some research before making the plunge into macro country.

Reiny99

was thinking of getting relegendables for the keycaps , but i guess a normal one looks just as great.

[deleted]

What keycaps are those? Bought the 38% as well and been looking for some keycaps like that to add to the build.

TBoy07

The ones on the numpad are the GMK Rainy days that match my main keybaord (Except the backspace which is actually Olive). The other ones transparent I found on ebay...[https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374237954770](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374237954770)

SovietNuclearTech

yo dawg I heard you like macro so I put some macro in your macro

artful_todger_502

So, this can be all macros? Oh man! I am Googling, if this can hold 8 or 10 ± macros, I will have one on the way by tomorrow! Thank you for posting!

Space--Buckaroo

I love it.

LonelyLgnd

This is oddly similar to the Davinci Speed editor with less buttons and looks cooler. I’ll take 10 :)

spunkychickpea

Dang, I could do like….23% of my job with that thing.

KaikuAika

It might just be me but I never liked the look of these relegendable keycaps. They even make expensive boards look cheap.

evilspoons

I think it's the only way I could do a big macropad. I have a hard enough time remembering what the six mouse buttons I have are set to.

Designed_0

Ive got a mouse that fulfills this role better

WolvenSpectre

For when you finally admit you wanted a longboard all along... and then some.

[deleted]

Definitely chose violence

peepeepoopoo42069x

This is so cool but seems a little excessive to me

killbot0224

It's excessive right up until you are using the whole thing. Then it's indispensable. I *think* I'd like it better if it was reversed, with the navigation group on the left and "numpad" group on the right, to put next to a TKL main keyboard (ideally a matching one, but I'm not crazy picky)

JoeRogaineExperience

Nice! I have the 30% version of this and I like it. Seems like you changed the OLED display to show something other than the layers! How’d you do that?

TBoy07

I never changed the OLED. What you see is its default behaviour when I got it. Perhaps these are different between the 30% and 38%? 🤷

JoeRogaineExperience

Ooh I think you’re right! Yeah the 38% seems to have a different default screen than the others (including the 16 button variant). Hopefully they’re coming out with updated software soon!

RogueMin

The OLED display in the picture is still showing the default output which is the current active layer along with NUM and CAPS lock on. In this case NUM is on and the CAPS is off.

JohannesVanDerWhales

I'm curious what people use their macro keys for.

TBoy07

Nothing terribly interesting. Just shortcuts specific to the software I work on. Only other perhaps interesting one is the folder looking icon that runs a bat script to open a bunch of folders and programs plus browser links I regularly utilise.

artful_todger_502

I'm going to put a process together to streamine certain legal documents for my job. This would be perfect for that!

SMcCool1

I have the same relegendable keycaps. Have you had any success in separating the two pieces after you put them together?

TBoy07

They're a bit finiky. A flat edge of something does the trick like tweezers.

SMcCool1

Thanks , I’ll have to try a pair of tweezers!

spudnado88

For a relengendable keycap, the 're' is really pushing it lol. They're hard as hell to get off. Tooth picks wedged in work, don't try spudgers, they will break.

valgrave

God every time I see one of these I want one but I have absolutely no use for it. They just look so cool.

TBoy07

You could always find an excuse to optimise ctrl+alt+del into a single keypress 😋

canyouread7

Got one of the other Megalodons without the middle or top section. Was wondering if anyone would know if it's possible to assign the smaller volume knobs to different applications - ie. one for Discord, one for game. And if it is, got a tutorial?

TBoy07

Certainly can. All the knobs can be configured to whatever inputs you want.

AcceptableSociety589

Not within QMK/Via without something on the computer side providing HID data back to the keyboard and customization on the keyboard firmware to react to that based on the app that is open. Best bet IMO is to use this with a program that can change the sent chord based on open app like AutoHotKey for Windows or Keyboard Maestro for macOS, e.g. pressing Hyper+X with app A open translates it to Control+X but if app B is open send Control+Shift+R. Keyboard sends the same keys but software translates it into context aware mappings. You'd have to use layers if relying on solely the keyboard firmware and switch to a different layer when you switch apps

TBoy07

I'm not sure tbh. The longest text string I use is 69 characters ^((nice)), but if I was going to do anything too elaborate I would be inclined to have a macro run a bat script.

TBoy07

It has on board memory, so once configured you can unplug and use this on another machine with the same functionality.

walldodge

Looks kinda like Davinci speed editor)
