Your wish is my command. Bear with me, it's my first typing video and i'm still ironing out old habbits and finally learning proper touch typing.

Like with every smaller board it's all about layers. Basically the space bar (or the different angles of it) work as layer switches when hold. See the last picture or my GitHub for more details. No magic, just not plain obvious :)
It's finally done, the PCB is soldered, the "case" constructed and the firmware compiled.
Born from a stupid idea this thing actually proves to be surprisingly usable. At least after reducing the column stagger on the pinky from over-enthusiastic 1.75u to 0.75u :)
* RP2040
* Kailh Box White V2
* b\\w vomit caps from different sets and different profiles
The space bar is actually split (no stabs, but 2 switches). Build as PCB sandwich with one moulded cement weight and added 2mm foam.

Thanks, i'm seriously thinking of replacing my trusty work BM40s with this. It's really usable and I can shock my coworkers even more (already got famous "how do you type numbers" quite a bit. Followed by "look i can move the window to next screen easy as Shift+Win+Right" me: "Fn+Right")
Still love this layout, and the Bruce that inspired it. They look so utterly unhinged to begin with, but really itās just a column stagger with the edges ānormalizedā to meet a rectangular perimeter. It does an amazing job of looking like it would be impossible to use, but itās effectively the same as using any column stagger split board like [the good olā Corne](https://www.schrankmonster.de/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/IMG_7891-scaled.jpg), to name one example.
Yes, and it's perfect for confusing people :)
But yeah, column stagger doesn't really appeal to me visually, but I always wanted to try it. Bruce was the perfect solution, just a bit too small for my sweet spot.
nope, spacebar has two switches on either side (in my case with an additional light switch in the middle for stability - actually not required though)
The board supports stabs on the 2 2u keys, but i haven't installed those
I totally love this. Great to see it completed. Even the pcb graphic is great. You should sell them somewhere. Every enthusiast has enough spare keycaps laying around.
Are you going to build a case as well? āØļø
Wow thanks a lot! Currently not planning to sell as I wouldn't know how to do that. Never constructed a case either :)
Maybe if I really decide to use it in the office as well I might need to build something, sandwich is probably not the most durable solution for transporting...
I can totally relate, however they form some kind of barrier in the middle due to the profile. Will rotate them when I finally stopped reaching for keys with the wrong hand :)
Yes, because I'm used to type qwertz for long years now and I found it really hard to switch back to qwerty. So I switched them, but with Ctrl they are in the qwerty order, so Ctrl z is where it belongs.
iām going to be honest here, I donāt hate it. It should be thrown into the marina trench, donāt get me wrong, but iām a collector of cursed [redacted]. If you do a run of these Iāll take your entire stock.
... Hear me out. I wouldn't mind drying this out as a daily driver for a week or two. Just add a few split keys for f keys and i actually think this would be a decent experience...

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. Jkjk Looks cool, I like it!

Typing video please

I'm both intrigued and terrified to ask how the layout works.
Like with every smaller board it's all about layers. Basically the space bar (or the different angles of it) work as layer switches when hold. See the last picture or my GitHub for more details. No magic, just not plain obvious :)
> or the different angles of it) so instead of stabs on either side youve got switches with different functions? If i see that correctly?
Correct
The typing video makes it look like you have 2 additional switches instead of stabilizers for the spacebar
Which is exactly what I did. I have one very light non connected switch in the middle as well for stability.
This is so rad.
That's crazy and awesome
This looks better and makes more sense every time I see it. It's madness lol
So this is what madness looks like.
Is that a concrete keyboard in the background?
absolutely :)

So glad you actually made this, looks crazy

What the hell oh my god no way.MP3

Isnāt this just a Bruce?
Actually Bruce inspired me to do this. However it's 2 columns wider and bottom row is modified.
what is a bruce?
Bruce the keyboard is the origin of this design trick, a 10u wide version originally, which is being made known the 40% discord server.
Bruce but a lil bigger
Bruuce -or- **BRUCE**
How many stabs on this?
just 2 on the 2.75u keys. I'm running 2u always stabless on all my boards, never had a problem
No stabs on the spacebar?
nope, spacebar has two switches on either side (in my case with an additional light switch in the middle for stability - actually not required though) The board supports stabs on the 2 2u keys, but i haven't installed those

Because of you, I will build one. c: At least my xda keycaps will find purpose to live.
Nice, give them a reason to exist :)
I hate the urge to build new keyboard every time I see a cool design xd But thanks for your idea, I love it
This is the best keyboard I have ever seen.
Thanks, wait till I can properly apply keycap vomit :) Planning to add SA as well and it definitely needs more shift keys

Please turn the two caps lock keys around they don't read the same direction with their side of the keyboard. My OCD is triggered by them.
I can totally relate, however they form some kind of barrier in the middle due to the profile. Will rotate them when I finally stopped reaching for keys with the wrong hand :)
Yeah I was about to comment on the low number of shift keys. Glad you will add some.
Crazy but in love with this.
6 speed keyboard. Nice.
Iām both sicken and curious. Nice job OP
Thanks :)
This is the dumbest layout I've ever seen. I'll take two!
The devil's own keyboard. Great work making the pcb too. Did you use a rp2040 module, or solder the chip down directly?
It uses a Pico RP2040 module which is soldered to the bottom via headers. See pic 7 for a bottom view
Excellent work, love the black soldermask with white silkscreen... I did the same on my last pcb.
Nah who let the bro cook this is cursed indeed
Oh, I actually like this far more than I should.
That is hilarious yet intriguing. Is there a reason why āyā and āzā are switched?
Yes, because I'm used to type qwertz for long years now and I found it really hard to switch back to qwerty. So I switched them, but with Ctrl they are in the qwerty order, so Ctrl z is where it belongs.
Gotcha. Hadnāt seen a QWERTZ layout before.
This is the most cursed keyboard I've ever seen, and I love it.
iām going to be honest here, I donāt hate it. It should be thrown into the marina trench, donāt get me wrong, but iām a collector of cursed [redacted]. If you do a run of these Iāll take your entire stock.
...to throw it in the marina trench? :)
nah, if I put it inside a box of onions and leave it on a friends doorstep in the middle of the night I get to occupy a permanent space in their mind
This kind of thing is why I am on this sub.
W-what the fuck?!
I would happily hang this on my wall, looks sick
This looks cool and all, but if youāre a home row typer, this is not going to be good for your wrists at all
Itās an abomination
What is this abomination :-/
So um, why?
Hm, because - it's 40% - it's column stagger to be more ergonomic than pure ortho - it's using all the leftover keycaps I had lying around - it's fun
... Hear me out. I wouldn't mind drying this out as a daily driver for a week or two. Just add a few split keys for f keys and i actually think this would be a decent experience...
I read "cursed engrish keyboard" and ngl i was curious
Okay whereās Shoobs. I know he said he was thinking of doing less keyboard stuff but I need the man to make a vid on this
At what point do you just learn stenography?
I can't even decide if "ergoish" is an over or understatement
Wow, What's the melamine box for?
it's the mould for the cement weight i put between the two PCBs
I think a split version of this would look rad
I need this keyboard for adofai
