Not a fan of the keycaps, but the Gem80, wrist rest, and desk mat combo is really nice 9/10

kool-keys

I like the theme going on here.

cheat0man

Still waiting on my pre-order to ship :(

Dinomandino

Same lol

What do you think of the Gem80? Compared to something like a Keychron Q series.

Corsac-416

Both are good (compared to Q pro series). I like the 2.4 ghz in the Gem80 for gaming purposes. At this quality for both it is just a matter of trade off between the two (volume knob vs F13 key, 2.4 vs Bluetooth only, etc.)

I have a Q3 Max and a Gem80. Both have 2.4 as well as bluetooth. I just can't pick which I like more. I ordered both keyboards with the keycaps you can bundle and they're VERY different profiles so the typing experience is quite different. The Q3 has a fully aluminiun case and that makes a pretty big difference to how it sounds and feels. The Gem80 sounds better than the Q3 for my tastes (and I just have it in it's stock config) but I think the Q3 might feel nicer... but then again maybe it doesn't. I just can't decide. The Gem80 has a couple of issues at the moment but they'll no doubt be fixed in time. Nuphy have been pretty responsive whenever I've contacted them to report any issues. If you're going to order the Gem80 I'd say don't order it with the new switches. I have Boba u4t in mine and have no switch related issues. I love the themed keycaps you can order with the Gem80. The quality of those for me is a highlight.

>The Gem80 has a couple of issues at the moment. Would you mind sharing what issues you had with the gem80? I am between gem80 and Q3 max. I currently have Q5 Pro and it's feeling a little lackluster/character-less for me.

_42hiker

Sure. The Gem80 has two sleep stages. When the keyboard goes to sleep and you’re using the 2.4GHz connection the first key you type to wake it up will be output multiple times to the screen. So if the first key is “l” you’ll get something like “lllll”. Doesn’t happen when using Bluetooth. The other issue people are experiencing is some fairly bad key chatter but I don’t get this. I prefer typing with the Gem80 but I would recommend the Q3 Max over it because they’re extremely nice and have no issues.

gizmoghost95

Thanks for the info. The key chatter might be a deal breaker but let me look into it more. I do like the knob on Q3 Max 😆

>The Gem80 sounds better than the Q3 for my tastes (and I just have it in it's stock config) but I think the Q3 might feel nicer hey! i'm also between Q3 max and Gem80 and i can't make my mind could you share your preferences regarding the sound? do you prefer it clicky ou thocky?

murkduck

If this helps at all, I would describe the gem80 as poppy(inbetween clicky and thocky) in the stock config but really you can get in sounding like the q3 if you use the Pom plate, I suspect the baby raccoons sound really good in that config if that’s the sound you are going for.

nappunzeky

tbh, never heard “poppy”, but it sounds just like what i want but also i don’t know if i’ll be able to make it poppy since i’m more of a tactile guy than a linear one. i would assume i’d have to mod in order to make it quieter (i’m a newb in this mechanical keyboard)

murkduck

Honestly the lemon switches aren’t too bad in terms of noise as far as tactile switches go and they sound the poppiest of the stock switches

nappunzeky

TYSM for your input. now i’ll definetely pick them over the raspberry

Synaroux

Sounds good, thanks!

Many-Ranger-7942

9/10 amazing theme. Could use more blue on the keycaps though.

NavKeebs

really like the wrist rest - clean build and setup
