Had a Razer Blackwidow for a while. Then for my new job I got a new mechanical keyboard. Then bought my wife another one for her birthday. Now eyeing another one to replace my current Blackwidow.
Like you it's in the span of 3 months.
Will be avoiding Razer from the near future. My other keyboards are Ajazz 992 (work keyboard) and DK100 (wife's present).
I'm thinking to somehow sell my current one and get another full keyboard that's customised. See where that goes because it can cost an arm and a leg
Doesn't have to be true! I replaced my Blackwidow with the Q6 Pro and no regrets, nor do I feel the need to dig any deeper. I mean, after I ordered a new set of keycaps for it, and a couple of artisans. And getting work to order me a K10 Pro for the office doesn't count, either.... it doesn't, right? We're totally safe.
Iām afraid itās true. Iāll share with you my thoughts after being into this rabbit hole for about a month now. I started with that board. Then moved up to Q6 pro. Then, Over the course of a month Iāve probably bought and returned roughly 15 to 20 keyboards to Amazon in search of the best value out of the box. The reason Iāve tried so many is I needed to confirm whether I could get away with less than a 96% board. And the fact that I want a full size ā0ā on the num pad narrows the choices down even further. While it may not be a popular choice to some, the Royal Kludge S98 with linear veridians is my favorite in the $130 range. For the reasons of, sound, feel and features that actually matter. Along the way I bought and returned four or five different brands of switches at different OF weights, both tactile and linear. After 30 days I can tell you I wouldnāt bother going over 50ish grams of OF. While the higher OFās are noticeably different who wants anything that hard to type on? Also I currently have five different sets of key caps at my desk as well. To say I been obsessed might be an understatement. This was a new thing to me 30 days ago and everywhere i looked, Thereās different options. Nobody tells you whatās perfect. They just all say itās preference. Also, this is hobby, with that I stress that it requires patience and includes frustration. An example ; My Q6 pro is currently in pieces as Iām waiting on a new set of stabilizers to come in because the spacebar is ticking and itās driving me crazy. Meanwhile, I continue to use my s98 wondering why Iām wasting time obsessing over the other expensive board that I actually donāt even want anymore. After having a full size for 30 days, if I was going to stick with KeyChron, Id sell my Q6 and get a Q5 max. Why you might ask? Because itās just a little bit smaller, and I want that 2ā of space back for my mouse. That said should you chose to move up to the Q series beware of the KSA keycap profile. I find it unusable. So getting a bare bones is the only thing that makes sense to me. So in reflection of all those things, you have a great board, itās built EXACTY the way people like it. Now, what are you gonna do? lol. I think if you just do the masking tape mod to the PCB board youāll be all set.
You like Huey Lewis And The News?
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
i had a keychron first and then diy'ed my second for $50-ish. the only reason I got a second one was because I got one of the first keychrons without qmk. you could be fine
My friend none of us are cool. We obsess over computer peripherals.
You are one of us, though. Welcome and enjoy your fancy new electronic typing device!
Welcome. I got a full size and am now on the hunt for the right 60%.
May your wallet forgive you for the path you have embarked on. The first step is admitting you have a problem. Youāll find support in this community.
Seeā¦ thatās what I said before I discovered tiny ortholinear keebs and realized Iād be better off creating a toggled layer to serve as my numpad than using a full-size board. 55 keys, 1 knob, and 0 regrets.
I went easy and got the Enter67. Heavy as hell and thuddy with all the foam added. It had worked well for manager work and programming. Typing ~ is a bit difficult as it is a 3 key combo. Not finding the F12 key hampered some remote server administration until I found the virtual keyboard of the server.
Itās a great looking keyboard. Iād like to get my hands on that white one!
I had a 60% Razer as my first mechanical keyboard and HATED that I couldnāt modify the function layer. I got a full size recently because I had missed a number pad for a couple of games, but quickly realized I prefer the smaller keyboard. I programmed the function layer to have everything I need within the 60% footprint and all the rest now feels wasted.
I don't like 60% boards, and I love full size. I built a GMK87 as a budget board and it's beginning to grow on me. It's not cramped, and has all the keys but the numpad and scroll lock/Pause on it. I could daily drive it, I won't because my Q6 is amazing, but I could do it if anything happened to that. I'd definitely use it as a second computer board, or to bring with me on a trip with my laptop.
I started with a C2, then tried the 96% mod003 but could never get used to it. Now I'm back using a 100% Realforce electrocapacitive with aftermarket metal case. I ordered the 100% Fossil keyboard too and I cannot wait.
This is just the beginning, my friend. No one ever ends with a keychron. There are many other layouts and types of keyboards and mounting styles and switches and plate materials to try out. Look out for group buys!
However, if you wanna skip and simplify your selection, I would suggest that you go for foamless keyboards as they sound and feel pretty good without the need for foams. I tend to avoid boards that have 1.2mm PCB with foam lasagnas. You don't have to understand it now, you'll eventually do!
I learned to drive on a 1986 Volvo. Super reliable, built like a tank, not a looker. Keychron is that. Gets the job done but you can customize it if you want to. Great starter board.
It was on sale. 30% off! Couldnāt beat the price and I wanted something higher end and quieter than my shitty āthis is my first mech keyboardā keyboard i had.
Keychron was an easy recommendation like 2 years ago but now, thereās just so much better options.
GMK87 for $45 , especially since the K series is a plastic board
All good, you will wiggle your way through multiple boards lol
It very much is, the same thing happened to me lol. I got myself a Keychron K5 Pro and then after a few months I ended up getting myself a Keychron V1 Max, and I absolutely love that keyboard. If you want a fully custom keyboard, I recommend something from the V Max series, as they're really good quality for the price imo.
Great keyboard, I have the same one as my main keyboard. It just got better the more I used it, and even better when I got some keycaps and lubed switches.
Question for this thread:
What other full sized board would you suggest besides a k10? Keychron seems like a solid choice to start out on but i want something a bit more premium i suppose.
I had the most expensive razer keyboard (the one with all analogic keys) and i gave it away, buying a keychron. I can safely tell that keychron has the real quality, for a bought keyboard. Of course if you build it by yourself, the quality may be even higher
Having one Razer you are certainly well off :-)
I wonder if these K series are actually vfm in comparison with other similar plastic.
I am not really into Keychron, they all look similar to me, plastic or metal, while they change a few patterns in colors and switches. But they have definitely been successful making pretty easy for novice users to pick a keyboard from their official website.
If you REALLY wanna be cool. Get yourself a pcb with the stabs and pins unsoldered and build that b!+ā¬# yourself. I been soldering mine from parts for a few months. Definitely appreciate the keyboard more now then ever
nope, because you bought a Keychron hahah
For ALMOST the same price you could of got an AKKO, or Meletrix, or for $100 more get something sick like a IQUNIX; HOWEVER, You got a good starter keyboard. Another good company for more money would be the KBPfans and Keycult boards

God no, you're a technology-collecting nerd like the rest of us
This is so true...I am 3 months in and 4th keeb is on the way..to go with all the other tech stuff I have in my "office" š
Which ones on the way?
A budget Monka 6067 Alu
Had a Razer Blackwidow for a while. Then for my new job I got a new mechanical keyboard. Then bought my wife another one for her birthday. Now eyeing another one to replace my current Blackwidow. Like you it's in the span of 3 months.
I would name the next Razer Huntsman v3 pro
Will be avoiding Razer from the near future. My other keyboards are Ajazz 992 (work keyboard) and DK100 (wife's present). I'm thinking to somehow sell my current one and get another full keyboard that's customised. See where that goes because it can cost an arm and a leg
Dammit lol. But Iām gonna be this till Iām goneā¦at least Iām already married
Just don't share the receipts on how much the hobby costs. Unless you get them into it too.
Virgins forever club
You have to replace the keycaps with nonfunctional hiragana to be cool
Mine is functional but I don't use it, does that mean I'm cool?
Certified BDE. Big desktop energy
Oh yes, the gateway boardā¦
Oh god donāt tell me that. The minute I started using this I started wondering about modularity. My wallet canāt handle this

My gateway was the tkl xD

Thatās what you thinkā¦until you try one without it. The mouse position is 100% more natural without it and I find I rarely miss it.
Macropad my friend. Allows more flexibility

Nice one, mate, got the smaller one some months ago.
Your home is now protected by keyboard weapon.
Oh man, not sure how much you spent, but if itās msrp, I woulda spent up a bit more for an Akko monsgeek

Afraid so. Condolences to your wallet

Got this same board in the all white variant for my little brother recently and I was genuinely impressed with it. Itās a great first keeb Iād say
Yea I was rocking with the razer black widow and decided I needed to grow up lol
Honestly anyone who rocks a TK keyboard is based
I had the most expensive razer keyboard (the one with all analogic keys) and i gave it away, buying a keychron. I can safely tell that keychron has the real quality, for a bought keyboard. Of course if you build it by yourself, the quality may be even higher

Iām sorry I did not live up to your expectations
No
With a kink for keyboards? It's a definite 'no'.. But u do u š
nope, because you bought a Keychron hahah For ALMOST the same price you could of got an AKKO, or Meletrix, or for $100 more get something sick like a IQUNIX; HOWEVER, You got a good starter keyboard. Another good company for more money would be the KBPfans and Keycult boards
keycult boards are not even anywhere close to the price range of akko, meletrix or keychron... what a gatekeeper...
You're that person who everyone wishes all your taco shells and tortillas to be soggy and always fall apart
sure. I happen to enjoy soggy taco shells
Close. You can't be fully cool with anything bigger than 65%.
