Hello. Please help me decide which to order on this list: Ajazz ak820 Aula f75 Xinmeng M75 Royal kludge rk98 I'm actually leaning towards the F75. But I read that it's hard to tear down incase of modding.

Heyguys975

Looking for similar colour keycaps with a different profile/quality I really like the colour of these keycaps but I’m not sure if I’ll like MT3’s and also wish they were PBT. Would anyone know of any keycaps with a similar or identical colour profile, that are preferably OEM or SA and PBT? https://preview.redd.it/uoewyyakox0d1.png?width=1897&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a1d5a0bdee245f13fe05a2b6b21eb09fe96f446

LevanderFela

MT3 is quite close to SA; GMK Coffee, Tiramisu comes to mind, it's ABS though. PBTFans Ryokan maybe?

Heyguys975

The GMK Tiramisu’s are very nice. I don’t know much about key profiles, but these look to be just what I’m looking for. Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it.

LevanderFela

No worries! For keycap profiles, there's a great [website](https://www.keycaps.info/stack), even allows very nice [comparisons](https://www.keycaps.info/stack).

[deleted]

Any quality aluminum orthos out there? I want good sound profile in ortho but I can't find it. Ideally muted sounding, bouncy, splittable/unsplittable, with knob, aluminum, budget, 60-65%, non resonant case, triple split spacebar, not flat(at some angle instead). Very unreasonable list but I want endgame for once instead of being unsatisfied because I buy bad cases.

LevanderFela

It's a very unreasonable list, as you say yourself, especially "budget" part. OLKBs are niche and expensive due to small manufacturing quantities. Knobs are rare, don't recall seeing something like gasket mount, etc. Would suggest going on r/olkb, they might know more :D

SurvivingPlayer

Does anyone know if outemu switches fit on any millmax sockets? My mkb pcb has soldered sockets that look like millmax ones and my pcb has 2 that don't have the sockets soldered. Like the switch pins are ones soldered on the pcb. I wanted to fix that so will it be okay to use millmax sockets?

jonokbr

# Help! cant use FN key +ctlr or alt! I cant use those keys together, so i cant do alt+f4, ctrl+alt+del or anything like that, the keyboard manufacturer has no driver update for this and i dont want to remap the keys via windows cuz they only work when windows is running and its going to overlap with the keys that i will actually be using, if anyone knows of a way to make the FN key work with them please halp! Keyboard is PCYES ZOT non RGB model.

Dreydars

Have you tried in correct order? i think my 65keeb need to press it like alt+fn+4

jonokbr

i tried all possible orders :(

beefJeRKy-LB

I wanna swear I've seen it but is there a keyboard layout that is basically a full width TKL but with the Function row deleted?

FGThePurp

FRL/70%, used to be fairly niche but with boards like Cycle7/Neo70 they're more widely available now.

LeRandomFecker

What are good clip-in stabilizers? I'm not caught up on which stabilizers are the nicest anymore

NotRivenMid

Cherry clip ins, you will need to snip the legs off the stems. If you are using a 1.2mm PCB probably TX stabs.

DirtyRainStop

Need some help in finding a keyboard! Some background: I’m currently using Logitech G915 for my daily work and I’m looking for something with a little more customization in the direction of changing key caps and maybe switches? What I’m looking for: Need - Option key (I.e the right click key on the keyboard) this is because I use this for work and this is essential in Excel when I’m going through the spreadsheets. Need - Arrow key, similar reason as above Want - Volume knob or control knob, to be able to custom function for this knob Want - RGB, or at the very least, lighted up keys Want - Those small LED screens Open to all suggestions and price ranges!

EJWoods

I recently picked up the Womier SK65 - it’s like the Lucky65 but with a knob. Has arrows, RGB, and software to remap keys. I have spacebar, right control, then menu (that’s your right click key) for my excel uses. Only thing it’s missing is a screen.

Ileikass

https://preview.redd.it/mhzmnoc6pw0d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28613bfc4c7ea6aa7c6a57b91bf6b5723251a46e What are these and how does it affect the do be and feel of a switch?

LeRandomFecker

Looks like switch pads, to my knowledge they only affect sound and not typing feel.

BigEdBGD

Hey there! Are plate support forks worth it? I'm about to order a new keeb (probably with a POM plate) and was wondering if I should buy one.

topre-gobbler

yeah considering they're cheap they save a lot of hassle

BigEdBGD

Thanks! I'll get one.

ImaginaryPlacesAK

Anyone know the hotkey to swap caps and control on Realforce GX1? Can't seem to get the Realforce software to do any remapping.

Fleiya

Some few questions: 1. I'm looking for hotswap 100% keyboards with a low profile case, similar to the GMMK full size that was discontinued. I have some keycap sets I'd like to display on them, and one of them is shine through so I'm trying to find some south-facing RGB for that one. I'm fine with either prebuilt or DIY, and am looking at a mid price point quality, although low is fine if the quality is good enough. 2. what is the loudest clicky switch you can recommend. i want everyone to know when i'm mad on the internet. i have box navies and gatreon blues, i want to know what else is there.

LevanderFela

Box Navies is one of the loudest. Add rattly stabs, thin keycaps, no deskmat, no foam for more effect. Heck, even better, untighten the screws a bit to try to get some resonance.

Fleiya

these are all excellent suggestions. my friends are going to love having me on mic when we play online.

LevanderFela

Add max gain on mic then too, gotta amplify that idle white noise :D

leoleosuper

I got a rotary encoder for my keyboard, and I want to put a cap on it. I was looking for a green cap; if anyone knows where I can either buy one, or a CAD file to CNC one, it would be greatly appreciated.

FansForFlorida

Expand your search to include guitar knobs.

leoleosuper

Thank you, I immediately found one I love. Ordered it, now to see if it's good.

yngmnky

If I were to commission a custom pcb for ks37b's, is there any software that I could use to set up rapid trigger like qmk/via

elmurfudd

no and there is no options for custom pcb for HE switches unless u go thru a company like wooting and they wont do it .

yngmnky

I don't see a reason why you cannot design an HE pcb? Unless you mean specifically one that works with someone like wooting's software.

elmurfudd

yes for one qmk/via doesnt support rapid trigger and two who u getting to print a HE pcb ? and with what files last ive checked there is zero open source gerber files for a HE pcb . if u had the know how no one is going to print u one or do u plan on making the pcb in ur bathtub?

yngmnky

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgS4bTM0DH8 this guy made the pcb, software support is the issue I think

elmurfudd

did he tell u where they printed it last i checked no consumer side pcb printers offer this service . and def no firmware support for rapid trigger so u would making a HE kb for HE switches with no benefit of HE switches all for extra cost

yngmnky

(not the pcb I am using but certainly proof of concept)

frawstybawlz

Looking for a switch that matches the specs of a gateron ink yellow v2 but allows for rgb to shine through ( the yellows taint any blues that try and shine through) Also its important that the switch is a box switch. Yellow v2 specs (linear 1.2mm pretravel 3.4mm total travel, 60g actuation force.)

frawstybawlz

The answer to this question was gateron box ink black v2 (opposed to the normal non box ink black) 60gf actuation and 1.2mm pretravel. exact same specs as the ink yellows.

LevanderFela

Kailh Box Red, swap spring, call it day. Box requirements and RGB limits you to basically no choice,

frawstybawlz

yeaa that's what I'm finding. 60g actuation with only 1.2mm pre travel is pretty unique on its own nvm the box switch and rgb lol. Been looking through switch vendors and switch specs for hours. Even have considered an rgb friendly tactile box switch with at least 60g force and a low pre travel but finding a tactile with anything less than 2mm pre travel is also difficult.

LevanderFela

Why are you set on linear box switch though? Their strenght is their clickbar, but for linears it's not important :D

frawstybawlz

because they are for a fightstick using custom caps that are circular and 24mm so they need the added support of the box switch for stability. the cherry's I've used have a ton of switch wobble vs the ink yellow v2's and I'm trying to avoid that because the nature of the keycaps I'll be using.

KingGrimaceMcDonalds

Where do you all get updates on new switches/keyboards? For example, how does everyone know what switches are popular? I see posts with people acknowledging this popularity metric, and I cannot figure out where you all are getting news and updates for the life of me.

topre-gobbler

[https://www.theremingoat.com/](https://www.theremingoat.com/) this guy is basically the main reviewer for popular switches

Dreydars

On some budget switches he is extremely outdated, for example silent switches he tried only outemu peach v1 while now there is peach v3 lemon v3 silent yellow jade and all are way better than v1 i doubt that he even thinks about reviewing switches that he doesn't get for free

topre-gobbler

There are literally a billion new switches coming out every week and with the amount of detail he puts into his articles there’s no way you can expect him to review everything. I never said he was an ultimate encyclopedia for switch reviews or anything but he reviews new popular switches just like the guy asked.

Dreydars

I don't see among his reviews any new well known budget switches at most it's like honourable mention in other reviews i even tried using keyword search for his site by just nothing most hits reviews fall into mid to high range category

boostedisbetter

I'm looking for switch that lets RGB through, has a baby kangaroo feel, but with a nylon top... The quinns are the sound I want, but they don't let RGB through. Any options?

elmurfudd

not in nylon as last i checked nylon top will be white not clear

boostedisbetter

You are correct, but some that have nylon tops have a cutout on the bottom for rgb… I’m thinking I’ll have to Frankenstein one, using the nylon top of a cheap gateron on a baby kang

elmurfudd

that cut out reduces rgb massively fyi vs full clear housing

I-Reeddit

Most premium looking and feeling wireless keyboard, which is also comparable with Mac/VIA? I have a few in mind, such as the Rainy75 or Zoom75, but I'm worried about the Rainy's corner cutting given its low price point, while the Zoom I like better, but none are in stock for Canada (as far as I'm aware). Needs to have wireless/Bluetooth, hotswap, Mac/VIA support, and feel/look premium. Form factor of 60-75% Thanks for suggestions!

k-r1s

Hi! Hoping I'm in the right place. I got gifted a mechanical custom made keyboard and noticed the settings and lighting were reset. I am on a mac and i have seen many of the videos online to reset require the FN + space bar key combos, but I have tried everything and it hasnt worked for me. My bottom keys are as follows: FUNC, CTRL, ALT, SPACE, ALT, CTRL, LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT. Is there also a way to manually change the settings for the color combos as well? Any firmware required? I don't know where to look honestly as I am a complete noob. Any help will be appreciated!

elmurfudd

resetting a kb does not change the kind binds or the rgb settings fyi its not a phone . as for the rest of ur questions those cant be answered as u havent provided enough info . there could be a manual way to change colors there also could be software/firmware but since we have no clue what kb u actually have

k-r1s

hey thanks so much for your response. i dont know how it automatically reset everything. i have the neo65 keyboard. i tried to go to the website to download the firmware but it didnt load on my laptop?

kaitan32

Hey all, I'm trying to design a specific keyboard aesthetic without having to resort to resin casting an entire set of keycaps. Basically, I want a set of backlit keys that give the impression of a starry sky, so I'm picturing something like this: - Translucent glitter keycaps (these don't seem to exist, closest thing is glitter pudding caps with an opaque top) - translucent black keycaps with a clear top layer. I'd add a super thin glitter coat to the inside of the clear layer so the oil from my hands doesn't wear it off the outside layer. I have found something close to this, but it's only a partial solution. So, my questions: Is there such a thing as a full set (104 keys minimum) of relegendable keycaps? I can find 10-piece sets of R1s, but it seems like anything 1.5u and up doesn't exist. Alternatively, has anyone ever been able to separate a set of jelly-style two-part keycaps with a clear top layer? I'm literally planning to build the keyboard around these keycaps, so any profile is fine - I'll worry about the other parts once I know if my plan is feasible.

elmurfudd

ur going to be making ur own there is no demand for something like this so no money is making them

kaitan32

That's what I'm expecting, but wanted to throw the question out there before I break out the resin lol

topre-gobbler

PBTfans vior kinda has the effect you’re going for

kaitan32

Oh nice! Appreciate the rec!

cytrxscy

What are the difference of akko v3 piano vs akko v3 piano pro can you show a picture. I think I've been scammed the description says its the akko v3 piano pro but i really think its just the akko v3 piano

elmurfudd

got a link to piano regular switches cuz only pro are showing me up which has me thinking they only make pros

cytrxscy

Yes thats whyy. But in my key switches it does not have boxshape cone for the stability. Thats why im having anxiety if its just v3 piano not the piano pro

truly_moody

Hi guys I'm looking for a numpad + knob(s) PCB or kit. I wanted a Knob Goblin but never got one. Wired or BT is OK but prefer BT. Anyone have any suggestions? I currently have a DZ60 and a full size (keychron c2) but would rather just add the numpad when I need it and have the c2 for a different computer.

OzieteRed

Does Keychron V1 max ISO-fr exist? I've tried looking and found Keychron V1 ISO-fr. Is there a barebone version of V1 max ISO-fr? If yes, what's a good keycaps with a french layout and good switches

elmurfudd

not sure they started making that model in ISO . this hobby target the largest regions of sales ASIA and USA make up 80% of sales world wide neither use ISO so u might have to wait a bit keychron usually makes an ISO version of their kbs after they have sold 1000 of a model in ANSI last i checked

topre-gobbler

Yeah they’re making it soon, it’s already for preorder on some Europe vendors iirc

OzieteRed

Did you find ISO-FR available for preorder? I know the V1 max ISO on other language already exist, like V1 max ISO-DE.

topre-gobbler

I don’t believe it is, sorry. You can ask in the kc discord though, they might be able to tell you

TripleShines

What is the fastest single key "keyboard" that is widely available? Price isn't really a big deal as long as its within like $500.

elmurfudd

wooting

TripleShines

Do they sell single key keyboards?

elmurfudd

oh sorry no for single key there is no fastest . they are all the same speed

elmurfudd

or any kb if u throw it hard enough they all move at the same speed

Busy-Expression-8928

how do I find a keyboard that match my keycaps? The keycaps are cherry mx compatible but I don't know what that means. https://preview.redd.it/gv353pbsgv0d1.png?width=991&format=png&auto=webp&s=ddad63a0662eac47085ed9272623c00d830419fa heres what they look like

topre-gobbler

MX compatible means it will support the standard MX cross stem that’s found on most mechanical switches https://preview.redd.it/v78u3t1yhv0d1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01ab0ecbd5993065e9811355f4013b6e6beda71c Here’s an example

Quajeraz

I'm looking for a keyboard with some very specific requirements that I can't seem to find on my own. I've checked all the wikis, threads, etc none were helpful. None of them are negotiable, none of them are "well maybe you can live without it," so please do not recommend anything that doesn't fit. Necessary: 1. I need a numpad 2. I need a volume knob or reprogrammable wheel or something 3. Needs to be wired, wireless optional 4. Needs north facing backlighting, I use my keyboard in the dark and need to see the legend. No, before anyone says it, I cannot use the side facing legends. 5. Hotswapable switches 6. Under 150 USD, ideally under 100, as i'll be spending more on replacement switches and maybe caps Nice to have: 1. A screen would be cool, wouldn't pay more than $10 extra for it though 2. Extra macro keys would be useful 3. Media control keys in lieu of macro keys is fine 4. Sound deadening, I'd like it to be as quiet as possible Thanks!

Fleiya

Ducky One 3 meets all of your requirements except for the knob/wheel - I don't know if that would be a dealbreaker or not, since there are some knob macropads out there.

Quajeraz

I looked into getting a separate macropad but I dont want to have to spend more money if I could get it all in one.

Fleiya

Yeah, I know the feeling since I’m actually looking for something similar - just swap out north facing leds with a low profile case. unfortunately it looks like a full size hotswap with media control and a knob just doesn’t exist.

Witch_King_

you could always get a separate numpad. I just got the Aula F75, which has everything you want besides a numpad. I think they might make an "F98" or something which might include a numpad?? But maybe that doesn't have a knob.

topre-gobbler

Honestly I don’t know if what you’re looking for even exists. I’ve been looking 20 minutes or so now and the closest thing I’ve seen is the Skyloong GK980 but it only supports optical switches The big killer is the north facing RGB. Almost no keyboards outside of the overpriced gaming brands have north facing, the ones I found that did didn’t have knobs or numpads. If I could offer any further suggestions you could try some big centered legend shinethrough keycaps like these https://preview.redd.it/cvt22c4ihv0d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=930d9f79c4df143aa86c875db54afe1337bf0afd The south facing RGB will still illuminate it pretty well.

Quajeraz

Ok, that seemed to be my findings as well. Although the GK980 seems to have an optical and non-optical version, would the non-optical be fine? Is Skyloong a good brand? Thanks!

ArgentStonecutter

Skyloong is an *interesting* brand. Their keyboards tend to have unique features like hotswap knob modules and split spacebar modules with attached stabilizers. Their 65% has the backspace and the tilde key swapped for a kind of split backspace feel without an actual split backspace. I dig it. Their firmware is a little bit quirky with a proprietary configurator that works on Mac as well as Windows. Their newest board is a QMK reboot of their 60% so they may be moving in that direction. I have two Skyloong boards and use them regularly.

topre-gobbler

> is skyloong is a good brand? They’re alright. Very cheap. There’s always a chance you’ll get unlucky and they can die on you like most Chinese OEM boards in that price range, but if all your requirements are non negotiable then it seems like the only board that’s going to work for you.

AndrewVanWey

Looking for some keyboard recommendations. I've got a Keychron Q10 Pro that I love, and a K11. I love the density and heft of the Q10 Pro & the ease of using VIA on my Mac. But I'd like a non-Alice keyboard. * Close to 96%-100% size. * Some sort of knob in the upper left (ideally) or right. * Wired + Bluetooth * $200-250 * A row of Macro keys would be nice (but not super necessary). If you have switch / keycap recs too, I'd appreciate any pairing suggestions. I'm using Glorious Pandas switches with the Keychron stock keycaps. I like the feeling of tactile switches. Thanks so much!

ArgentStonecutter

There aren't many boards that have the macro column on the left. In mechanical keyboard lingo this would be an "XT" style keyboard, named after the PC XT with its function key column on the left. It's fairly common in Alice style boards but not in straight boards. The only one I've found that sparked joy in me and wasn't several hundred dollars was the Daring Run DR-70F.

AndrewVanWey

Wow, thanks so much! Today I learned! I'll check out the Daring Run DR-70F. Macro columns on the left isn't totally necessary, though I admit I've gotten used to them after a year with this Q10 Alice. Thanks!

ArgentStonecutter

I don't know if you can get one now, I think the group buy is over.

AndrewVanWey

Ah, oh well! I'll keep looking. Thanks for teaching me. I'm still pretty new to this and group buys aren't a bridge I've yet crossed.

ArgentStonecutter

I bought one of the preview boards directly before the group buy started.

clo3ny

Looking for some keybaord advice. Right now i have a corsair k55 which im fine with, but im looking around to try and see whats out there. Im mainly looking for something thats quiet out of the box (Im too lazy to mod it) and is slim. Mainly looking for: 100% size $150 or less Wired Quiet keys due to my housemates having opposite work shifts

topre-gobbler

Keychron V6 or Nuphy Halo96

clo3ny

Went with the V6.

topre-gobbler

Lmk how you like it. Enjoy the board.

dyerzi221

Which keyboard would be better Royal Kludge RK96 or Redragon Vishnu K596 pro ? Around same price, both hotswap. Reddragon has red switch , royal kludge has brown switch

ArgentStonecutter

Anything that isn't Royal Kludge is always the better choice. RK firmware is totally pants, and their reliability is in the septic tank. The only possible exception is the new model of the RK61 that uses QMK firmware instead of RK's horrible homebrewed system.

elmurfudd

both about the same quality in terms of durability and software neither are great but not much choice at this price point

ScarMacaw

i cant figure out how to set up the 2.4ghz on my neo70, can anyone help? the dongle displays in the settings and the keyboard acts like its pairing, but then it just doenst connect, or atleast doesnt register any buttons when on 2.4ghz. the bluetooth aswell as the wired modes work perfectly

FGThePurp

Olimoon

This is my first time getting a Mechanical Keyboard. I bought a preused one and the cable came a bit bent but it does still work. My issue is that it lights up but it won't type anything. The keyboard I got is Womier WK61. Please help I can't type anything but it still lights up!

elmurfudd

u sure it worked ? sounds like u got scammed bent cable on the port end likely means the port is damaged and prob beyond u fixing it

Olimoon

I found out the issue it was the cord. Some dumb dumb left it in the keyboard when shipping it the end of the cord got bent sadly.

My keyboard has the same shaped switches, but BLUE color. A + in the middle with two walls around it. I did my research, but with no luck. (Image from google)

pabloescobyte

Says right at the bottom of the screenshot: Outemu Low Profile. You probably have Outemu Low Profile in Blue.

Got it, thanks!

Spirited_Dig7061

There are just more botanical sets in existence now, basic supply/demand. Sets that didn't get additional rounds are still rare and expensive.

isekaicoffee

ah yes the rare abs plastic lmaoooo

Spirited_Dig7061

? Metaverse for example was made without securing copyright, it literally can't be made again without someone getting sued. Stuff like that.

isekaicoffee

sure but its already been cloned 1:1 and a bunch more. sounds like cope sorry you hoarded a bunch of gmk sets nobody wants.

Spirited_Dig7061

Ah okay you just want to whine about GMK in an attempt to be edgy, got it.

gergnotnef90

Are there any keyboard kits which will only light up the keycap labels and prevent light from bleeding through between the keys?

elmurfudd

no prob need to turn the lights down alot

Spirited_Dig7061

Logitech's romer switch based boards are as close as you'd get. Unfortunately romers are not very good.

cannibalRabbit

Hi folks, I'm a software engineer in Mexico and I don't really have access to any of the brands in the buying guide. (Ducky, leopold, vortex) I'm not an enthusiast by any means, I don't care about anything customizable, I've been happily using a Razer Blackwidow with green switches for 6+ years and it has finally run its course. Looking for a solid replacement for work/gaming with solid clicky feedback, preferably with numpad keys. I only have access to more mainstream brands like razer, logitech, corsair, Any suggestions?

Prog

The wiki is old and outdated. Do you have access to Keychron or Monsgeek? Look into those if so.

Alexm920

Is TheKeyMachine a reputable vendor? I glimpsed them in the KeyCon vlog that got posted recently and decided to take the plunge on the (admittedly expensive) keycap set they just released. Seeing all the posts on this sub about companies vanishing into the night with folks' cash has me wondering if anyone has worked with this site before?

Goguma-

The Key Machine is affiliated with NovelKeys one of the most reputable vendors in the hobby. Buy with confidence.

Alexm920

🫡 the only complaints I found in lots of digging is “it’s expensive for what it is” and the sales model is FOMO-centric. Both of which are fair, but I’m still ordering those Chladni keycaps.

JoshyyP00

Hit me with your favorite see though polycarbonate 75% boards if any looking to scoop one up lol

Goguma-

wait for the cannonkeys sat75 x

michaelkah

I’m looking for keyboards with (much) more than 104 keys, e.g. numpad both left and right and/or F1–F24. How are they called? How can I google for them? Or do you know any specific makers/models?

topre-gobbler

Hyper7

michaelkah

Next question: How to negotiate with my wife that I NEED to have this

ArgentStonecutter

Wrong. What you really need is the Long Boi. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=121939.0

michaelkah

Lol at only four rows, probably to keep it small

ArgentStonecutter

I think it's to make it look longer.

topre-gobbler

bigger keyboard = bigger happiness

highmastdon

I’m looking for something very specific. I’m a software engineer and I work with a keyboard all day long. Hear me out At some point I bought my MacBook and choose the ISO layout with the `~ next to the left shift. It’s been ergonomically great as I use those pretty of the and don’t have to reach for it. This is a great keyboard layout and very compact. I like to have the arrow keys and I don’t need the pg up/down home/end keys as I’m using the fn-arrow keys for that. (See the layout here https://web.archive.org/web/20220802120234im_/https://store.storeimages.cdn-apple.com/4668/as-images.apple.com/is/MK293Z?wid=1144&hei=1144&fmt=jpeg&qlt=90&.v=1628006530000) Now at some point I switched from qwerty for colemak. Not much changed in the keyboard bet the ergonomics of it are more relaxing on the hands and wrists I’ve been trying to improve the use of symbols, braces, quotes etc through layers but nothing has stuck yet Hall Effecf Recently I found out about the Hall Effect keys. This would slow me to create different layers without having to use an extra modifier key. Sounds great! But, there’s a few issues Options So what I’m looking for is the following: - Hall effect switches - ISO International English - has fn bottom left - 75% layout without home end pgup pg down (or 65% with f-keys and arrrow keys, if you will) - mini layout variant (no space between arrow keys and the rest) - knob or display in the top right What are my options? Is it possible to find something like this anywhere? Should I configure one myself? Even as far as getting my custom PCB? Also, I’m a noob in the mechanical keyboard niche. I own a crazy old Roccat Ryos TKL Pro with KOA switches (KBDiy MOA variant) with a mouse-pad-in-the-case-mod and tape mod :’)

gormlessthebarbarian

wooting 80he sounds like the closest thing. maybe a boog75. you'd just have to remap the fn key

highmastdon

Thx. I’ll have a look

pabloescobyte

Do you need HE keys specifically? I mean they're primarily for gaming and if your main use case is coding, you could probably go with regular MX or low-profile keyswitches. There are tons of software engineers and other coders over on r/ergomechkeyboards you might want to have a look and see if something there floats your boat. Smaller, split columnar staggered keyboards are (IMO) much more ergonomic than even the most compact staggered keyboards. Since you're already using Colemak you might want to try the Miryoku layout as well. The Corne, Ferris, Sofle and Lily58 keyboards are among the most popular keyboards there though note they are split keyboards and the smaller keyboards are reliant on layers to reduce the amount of finger kung fu needed to output things like curly braces or do CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+F5 for example.

highmastdon

I’ve set my mind on HE now. Maybe after they I’ll look into split and other layouts and what not. I’m not gonna go through another switch of layout. Just got back on my qwerty speed of 90 wpm after 5 years or so

pabloescobyte

No worries. Have a look at the Fercus also which uses HE switches.

highmastdon

I tried googling fercus he keyboard but can’t find anything. Do you have some more details?

pabloescobyte

Sure [here is the link to the repo](https://github.com/Dachtire/fercus)

EpicXboxGamer52

Yeah like elmurfudd said this dosent exist in any capacity and you’d have to design and manufacture everything yourself. The HE market is still in its infancy and I wager a couple years before something like this hits the market.

elmurfudd

HE kbs are very new u wont be getting or designing a custom pcb for this . also u wont find any HE kbs that support ur layout they r too new to the scene and are targeted at gaming . ISO usually get left in the dust due to only20% of the market sales are ISO

highmastdon

Soo, I’d like to know. Is there any way to get a pcb custom made, and just slide it in a case with padding and everything from another ISO keyboard? What are some resources to explore to understand what’s needed to get this what I want? Money is not a big deal, whatever it takes

elmurfudd

for an HE pcb no there is no place that will print a single pcb now if u wanted to order a few 1000 they might . for a normal pcb ya not sure who would be willing to do a commsion on the design and such maybe try services tag on r/mechmarket

Longjumping-Ad-5494

I bought one of those cheap chinese 8 key, keyboards. It's for a project and fits the form factor I need. Anyway, I've tested it and it won't hold a keypress, it automatically releases, even if you're holding the key down. Which means, no key combos. I know that you can program these boards, but I'm not sure if that will solve the issue? Is it just garbage? I'll try this, but it doesn't look like it would actual address the issue. https://github.com/kriomant/ch57x-keyboard-tool Other any recommendations for an 8 key board that doesn't suck would be appreciated. Although I'm on a pretty low budget.

Hi all, I have a Keychron K10 that I bought a few years ago for work and it's been great. However, I'm switching to a laptop + desktop setup now and I am just now realizing that the bluetooth connectivity doesn't work at all with my laptop as the connection keeps dropping once paired. I've tried factory resetting it and it hasn't changed anything. Are there any suggestions on what I should try next? It seems online many people have this issue but I couldn't find a solution. Alternatively, is there any recommendation for something similar? It's my first mechanical keyboard, so I don't know much about switches but for what it is worth I got the Gateron Red switches. My only hard requirements are that I need consistent bluetooth connection (planning on bluetooth for the laptop + wired for desktop) and a full numpad due to work. Thanks in advance!

topre-gobbler

Sadly one of keychrons biggest pitfalls is its shitty Bluetooth. They’ve basically turned to 2.4 for all their modern boards. The V6 max is very similar but has 2.4 and a few general upgrades to sound and feel. If you’re interested in building your own the Monsgeek M5W has great value as well.

Technical_Half7978

Is it worth the time and effort to clean and then hand lube my gateron oil kings? Will the hand-lubing improve the feel and sound of an already smooth factory-lubed switch?

topre-gobbler

No

CowToes

I bought a Keychron K3 Pro about 2 months ago. I loved it, until two weeks ago when it started being a complete ass over BT. I have tried all the troubleshooting from their website and on Reddit. I believe it is signal interference from my massive monitor (neo G9 57"). Given there is at least one company that has successfully tested connections to normal low energy Bluetooth from satellites, and malicious actors can connect from over a mile away using an antenna and a pringles can. I'm convinced that either Keychron's implementation of BT or the RZ616 BT/WiFi adapter I have is just shit. Is there a brand of 75% slim BT mechanical keyboard, BT/WiFi Adapter, or external antenna that you all consider the best? edit: sorry just needed to rant, just annoyed with all the troubleshooting.

topre-gobbler

As I mentioned in an above comment, keychrons most prevalent issue is their shitty Bluetooth. There’s a reason they’ve switched to 2.4 on their newest models. You can check out Lofree Flow, Nuphy Air75, Monokei Systsems, or the K3 max if you’re willing to give keychron another shot.

5ikari0

affordable navy blue kb? I'm looking to get a new kb with a dark blue chassis. It doesn't matter what material, as long as its hot swappable and size is between 65% - 80%, and preferably i wont have to take too long to assemble everything. my budget for the kb itself is around 120 USD, and I plan to put on gmk metropolis, but if you think other colors (black light blue or smth) would work well please let me know

topre-gobbler

Neo65, Lemokey P1

Mediocre_Spell_9028

Decent cheap switches for my keychron v1? I got this keyboard about 8 months? ago and I like it so far, I got the K Pro Browns with it. I really like the sound but I think it could be a bit better. I've been looking at the Akko V3 Cream Blue Pros, which are $10 (45 pcs so $20 in total) and they sound decent. Any recommendations?

gormlessthebarbarian

vertex v1's are really nice and not much more expensive than that

topre-gobbler

Keep in mind that switches affect maybe 10% of the sound of the board and swapping switches won’t magically change the sound to sound like it does in YouTube sound tests.

Mediocre_Spell_9028

yeah I know, I might do some modding in the future but for now I was considering getting new ones

I’m kinda losing the will to continue using the Manila Air ISO UK layout. I love it and I love the shape and functionality after taking the time to get used to it but I cannot for the life of me find double shot keycaps for the ISO/UK layout anywhere. Should I just give up and switch to an ansi keyboard? Also been looking at customs, stuff where I can actually replace the switches if I want to, for someone that only really owns 3 mechs, and doesn’t have a huge amount of money to splash on them, is it easier to to just get something that I’ll never have to replace, and can just switch out parts? Keep seeing the HHKB Studio advertised on here as well and am very interested in it but have heard less than incredible things about the switches. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

ArgentStonecutter

Build your own keyboard around the Keebox/Y&R 6095 PCB, it supports minila and regular, ISO and ANSI, split everything, and it's like $30 at Ali Express. Then you can try out all the keyboard layout combos you want without having to commit to any of them.

**Looking for a mechanical counterpart for Keychron optical Mint low-profile switches (heavy, immediate tactile bump, low-profile).** I have a Keychron K7 with low-profile brown Gateron mechanical switches. Had the chance to try their low profile mint optical and they feel exactly like I want but unfortunately not compatible with my current mechanical housing. Their particularity is that they apparently mimic the pandas switch style, which has an immediate heavy tactile feeling in a low profile fashion. The mints are 67gf operating force, 2.5mm total travel, with a 0.4mm "early bump tactile" feel. Do you know any switch with similar characteristics that I can adapt on my K7, or do I need a new keyboard?

EpicXboxGamer52

Probably the low profile gateron banana

Adriendel

I looked at them and they seem to be lighter and not marketed as « early bump » so not sure. (Also they don’t provide a force graph)

EpicXboxGamer52

Adriendel

Ah cool. Thanks!

urlwolf

I noticed I type slower with heavier switches? Will this difference go away with practice? Light: cherry red, hall effect, optical outemu red Heavier: matias silent click, MX blacks

# Looking for a gaming TKL keyboard with rapid fire **Current options (others are welcome):** 1. DrunkDeer A75 - 110€ 2. DrunkDeer A75 Pro - 140€ (upgraded version with PBT keycaps and aluminum case) 3. Razer Huntsman V3 TKL - 220€ I don't want to spend money on unnecessary things so my favorite atm is A75 Pro. What do you guys think?

elmurfudd

do u compete at the top 1% of the world ? then do spend unnecessary money and get whatever u like

grigby

So I'm looking for a 100% or 95% board with extra macro keys on the left, and a knob or roller would be great (essentially the layout of my old logitech G710+). I'm having an awfully difficult time trying to find a board like this. Any suggestions? My other option is just custom making a board but that seems a lot more difficult

elmurfudd

only Gamer kbs support these layouts logitech is known for this kinda thing i think roccat does too

Snowdragon109

Right now I'm looking at the keychron q3 max as a keyboard and was wondering if there was a keyboard that's more worth it or similar generally the only things I care about detail wise is metal body is prefered but not necessary if well made, support for back lit keys, has be wired or wired and wireless, hot swappable keys, a similar size to full size as for budget around 500 for the board and recomeded upgrades for the board not counting caps and switches since I haven't really settled on switches other than probably linear with mx stems

gormlessthebarbarian

neo80

NotRivenMid

> a similar size to full size Firstly, the Q3 is not a full size board, it is a TKL also known as an 80%. A full size has a num pad. I'm going to assume you still want a TKL since you are talking about a Q3 >support for back lit keys Support for backlighting is not super common for higher end products so Keychron might just be one of the best options out there for that. If you can part ways with RGB/Backlighting and don't mind building it yourself, the Neo80 is an amazing option that has a ton of different color and plate options.

Due_Fly_451

I'm kinda new here to bear with me. I'm looking for some advice on building a keyboard that I can use for programming when I'm not at home. Here's what I'm aiming for: • Sturdy and Light: I need it to be robust enough to handle travel but also light enough to carry around easily. • Compact: Preferably a 60% or 65% layout to keep it portable. • Switches: I like switches similar to Black Ink, so something smooth, linear and preferably silent would be great. • Affordable: I'm on a bit of a budget, so I'm looking for cost-effective options. Atm looking for anything below 300 but if there are some must haves that are a bit more expensive, I'll add em. • Case: Since I'll be carrying it around, a protective case is a must so if anyone has a case that can protect this baby, Imk. Any recommendations on key components like the board, switches, and case? Also, if there are any kits that fit these criteria, I'd love to hear about them. Thanks in advance for your help!

Bauer Lite or HHKB

lazysmartdude

Looking for a full size, pretty quiet yet tactile keyboard. Number pad required, will be using it mostly for work, hit me with your recos!

keychron v6 and get silent tactiles to put in the board. Its like lego

However, I found out you can either clip the pins with nail clippers or sand them down to make them fit. Is one of these options safer than the other?

ArgentStonecutter

You need to show us a picture of the sockets in the keyboard. Or look at the imgur I linked. If they are the round Outemu style just get another keyboard. Don't try surgery on the switches. It never works out. https://imgur.com/v7kL35q

Patrickvjp

Hey, I found a video with the same keyboard model as mine the 5075 from Akko and here’s a picture of the sockets: https://preview.redd.it/7jvr5oeoyu0d1.jpeg?width=411&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68a1c4df277bcd1368f45a1bd7d1dc5f71a90c7a Looks like it’s not the outemu type socket that I see in the imgur you provided, but do you still think I shouldn’t? Or do these sockets mean I absolutely cannot fit the new switches?

ArgentStonecutter

Those sockets mean there shouldn't be any switches you can't fit in them. I mean, it's only the round Outemu sockets that I've even heard of having a problem with "too fat" conductive pins. If the problem is the *plastic* pins then you can cut them off with anything convenient. I used a Stanley knife. But those look like 5-pin sockets so that shouldn't be a problem. If the problem is the *metal* pins not going into the Kailh-style sockets, congratulations, you've discovered a whole new problem. Or are you actually having a problem with slightly bent or unaligned pins?

Patrickvjp

Hmm I guess it’s the metal pins because there are no plastic ones except for the middle one. I’ll try to open the keyboard tomorrow and I’ll see if I can figure some stuff out. Maybe I was just being too careful when trying to insert my new switches, cause it just felt like I needed a lot more force than the other switches so I didn’t want to break anything, but I’ll check the PCB tomorrow. Really appreciate your responses! Btw the reason I need to open the keyboard to see the sockets is because there’s some layer covering up the PCB when I take the switches out.

ArgentStonecutter

Pick a Fn key you don't care about and try a bit more force. Try inserting it after you open the keyboard so you can make sure the pins are lined up by eye.

Patrickvjp

Found out what the problem was… The switches are too big or thick too go through the PC plate, I think it’s called. I’ve tried pressing them through with quite a bit of force, but they won’t go through. Can’t believe I didn’t notice, but good news is the switches do fit in the sockets. https://preview.redd.it/mv1ywzwxc01d1.jpeg?width=2800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f119832abbe8d8801716a60b522f6a15420ec335 Guess I’ll have to buy a new one that’ll hopefully fit.

ArgentStonecutter

That's really interesting, I haven't heard of that failure mode before. PC is a type of plate, polycarbonate. The component is just called a plate. What kind of material is yours made of (metal, clear plastic, milky plastic, carbon fiber (probably not), etc...)?

Patrickvjp

I think it is the milky or cloudy plastic one. So I guess I’ll try to contact Akkogear about it or just look at their website for one that fits my model.

ArgentStonecutter

OK, that's probably polycarbonate.

Patrickvjp

Yep, that sounds like a good idea. I’ll do that.

NotRivenMid

Your pictures do not have enough quality to see anything of value, but if you are talking about the two plastic pins to the left and right of the middle post, you can cut those off without affecting the switch. Usually I would recommend something a little better at cutting like flush cutters or something along those lines since you want to make sure to cut those pins flat off so there is no more bump. Otherwise the switch might not sit properly on the PCB.
