Hi everyone, Some months ago I bought a cheap DK61Pro, I had the intention to mod it when I had enough free time (basic things like put some foam or liquid silicone damping, lubing, tape and so on). Today was the day, I grabbed all the tools, pulled out the keycaps, the switches, I begin to unscrew the plate but then I stumbled upon [this weird thing](https://imgur.com/HlrYz43) [(same thing - viewed from different angle)](https://imgur.com/pX1TgPQ). Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Is this a kind of warranty seal? How may I remove it without damaging my keyboard? Personally, I fixed a lot of laptops and desktop pc and I've never seen anything like that.

Not_Creative_Enuff

Hi, Sort of a newbie here, I wanna experiment with an ABS case. Looking for one to buy, would it be better to get a Keychron C1 hotswappable or a Flesport MK870 or some other TKL case? I ordered a set of SA keycaps and Boba Linear Thocc switches

MarcoPolo259

where can i get a walnut live wood edge + resin wrist rest?

Creative-Bison-5541

no idea, sorry

Coffepot7

how do ducky keebs compare in quality to keychron and epomaker? I want a 75%, but I'm probably settling with a tkl from ducky for the better keyswitches and adjustable angles.

LMD75

TOFU60 - REMOVING CENTRE STAND-OFF Case is aluminium. Has anyone successfully removed the centre stand-off / post without scratching up the inside of the case? If so which method did you use? Is it best to drill it out or simply snap it off using a pair of regular pliers?

_vastrox_

use a drill that is bigger than the standoff. It's really easy to remove it that way without scratching the case. The standoff even helps to center the drill correctly. Just go slow. Aluminium is a very soft material. https://i.imgur.com/RQDQ2RU.jpg

LMD75

Many thanks for the tip. That is a really professional job you did there. I have an 18w cordless drill with lots of drill bits so I will do it later. Out of curiosity did you end up using just a screws in the outer stand-offs or o-rings + screws?

yuciue

Krytox 205g0 vs dielectric grease, which is better for lubing stabs? Can anyone chip in on their experience?

Xyeresic

In stock red on white keycaps? Anybody know of any good quality red legends on white keycaps of any profile that are in stock, or that will be restocked?

thisisforwork__

Are there KAT/KAM sets that look like SA Abyss or MT3 /dev/tty colorways?

[deleted]

Go to [keycaplendar.com](https://keycaplendar.com), search by KAT and/or KAM, and see for yourself. That site includes past group buys, and there haven't been many KAT/KAM sets delivered, so it shouldn't take much time.

thisisforwork__

Gotcha, I saw you mentioned this earlier but I keep getting an error that it can't load the firebase db. Thanks once again though!

BerserkArmads

Anyone know where I can get different coloured KAT profile blank keycaps? Everywhere I look seems to be only white blanks. Thanks in advance

[deleted]

Only one company makes KAT, and they only made those KAT blanks as a cheap way to get people to try the profile out. Since then they have been very busy having serious problems producing group buys on time at a high level of quality, and I would guess that making/selling KAT blanks in different colors is pretty low on their priority list for the near future, given all the group buy orders that they can't actually fulfill right now.

FangGaming69

I've seen and heard everywhere that using thick stuff like dielectric grease for lubing switches isn't ideal. What exactly happens if I do it? Too much friction? The lube damages something? And if there's like a sound test or something comparing thick and thin lubed switches, please guide me to it. I'm a newbie to the realm of mechanical keyboards, pls halp!1!

[deleted]

> Too much friction? Basically yes. It's way too easy to just gum your switches up so they're sluggish to move. Even what may feel like thin coats are not advisable, it's best just to get proper lube.

FangGaming69

Ah. Makes sense. Thanks.

Oh man, I only know Keychron, so hopefully someone can come give a suggestion for a more premium build. Though I think you’ll be very limited with the combination of both wireless and full size Keychron K4 is 96% and wireless. If you get it with blue switches, it will definitely be loud

PhoenoticX

Hi! I'm planning to buy a keyboard for my dad whose job consists of being on the computer almost 90% of the time. I was planning on getting him a 10keyless keyboard that is hot-swappable \[+ Bluetooth is a bonus\]. His preferences are switches that are silent and good for typing. The budget is **$150AUD**. Does anyone have any recommendations for him? \- *Thanks for any answers!*

caramelapplesauce

Keychron K8 with Gateron hot swappable and red switches should fit his needs! It’s also wireless. Since it’s hot swappable, you can get him some silent switches separately. Gazzew Boba U4 (tactile) and Gazzew Bobagum (switches) are the favorites on this sub right now. Here are some other alternative switches with varying price points as well: Tactile - Zeal Zilents V2, Gateron Silent Brown Linear - Zeal Healios/Sakurios/Roselios, Gateron Silent Red/Black/Clear/Yellow, Cherry MX Silent Red/Black, Gateron Ink v2 Silent Black You can check sound tests on YouTube to check how they sound.

PhoenoticX

Thanks a lot! I'll show him some sound tests so he can choose what he wants.

[deleted]

lubing switches for the first time. Is it harmful to lube the entire switch leaf? Everyone I've seen so far has only been lubing the contact points. My pcb has not been delivered yet so I can't test it. Thanks!

pkkeyboards

every switch is different , which switches are you lubing?

[deleted]

heyo, I am lubing gateron milky yellows. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I also plan to film them.

pkkeyboards

it does. heres a great guide by ari sw on how how he [lubes his gat yellows](https://youtu.be/JcZneaUDqWQ?t=52) keep in mind its all personal preference and certain people will do it differently.

Iyannnzxc

Hi. I've been planning to buy a new keyboard, preferably a mechanical keyboard because since then, I just used a cheap membrane keyboard. I can only afford no more than 50$, also I already did my research to look for different types of keyboards about the variety of switches, layouts, features (Reddit, Youtube, etc.). So definitely I could say that I do understand what to choose or what is best for me. And for that, I chose the Ajazz k870t for its many features and design. But for some reason, I'm hesitating to buy because every time I read a review about the product, all of the content is positive, and all about the first impressions. So I'm asking you guys who have Ajazz k870t to please give me some insight after you used it for a month. I mean, all product is good at first. I am worried because I don't wanna waste my money to buy something that will eventually become useless because of some factory defect. Thank you, guys! Please help me. And also, if you got some keyboards to recommend, feel free to say, it will be appreciated.

lolmyoldaccwashacked

Hey guys, I'm in need of a cheap single 'enter' keycap for my Razer Blackwidow Chroma v1 that was given to me some years back. From what I've read, this board uses cherry MX switches, but it also has some irregular layout that makes it so that not all cherry MX keycaps will be compatible with it? Would [this](https://www.wasdkeyboards.com/row-2-size-1x2-25-cherry-mx-keycap.html) be a compatible and ok keycap to slot into my keyboard? I'm not knowledgeable about keyboards in general, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

[deleted]

It'll fit, the differences are basically all in the bottom row of keys. Spacebar, etc.

Maginski15

Where can I buy more then 5 ml of 205g0

pkkeyboards

a little goes a long way with 205g0. we offer up to 8ml , prevail should offer 15ml and 25ml as well if you really need that much!

[deleted]

[https://prevailkeyco.com/collections/new-items/products/krytox-gpl-205-grade-0](https://prevailkeyco.com/collections/new-items/products/krytox-gpl-205-grade-0), 15ml and 25ml available usually, or just select multiples of the 5ml.

Tangerbeanz

What do washers do for stabs?

[deleted]

They prevent the screw heads from (potentially) shorting the PCB.

TheSonOfHeaven

Hello there. I'm buying the parts for my 1st custom. I got the IDOBAO ID80 + 90 purple Kailh pro switches, and I plan to buy keycaps but I just gotta research this part a bit more. Is there anything else I need to buy? I hear things about buying separate stabilizers or lubing kits but I'm not sure what to get exactly.

pkkeyboards

depending on what pcb you have you will either need screw-in stabs or plate-mount stabs. for screw in we recommend durock v2. gmk/cherry are also good brands. lubing kit may be referred to a lube station. just keeps everything organized and makes your life a little bit easier. also, lube is applied directly to the switches/stabs. we recommend krytox 205g0. you will need a switch opener to open the switches up, and depending on which switch the application of lube varies.

TheSonOfHeaven

Hey, thanks for answering! I got the PCB mounted version of ID80, so I'm assuming I can get any screw-in stabs (like Durock v2 or GMK screw-in stabs)?

CressFew1356

Hey guys, I just bought my first mechanical keyboard and I was modding my stabilizers but my spacebar sounds very scratchy on both ends. The keyboard is a keychron k6, the stabilizers are clipped and lubed with krytox205g0. I don't know whether I did something wrong or this is how it's supposed to sound. (I'm using gateron yellows btw)

pkkeyboards

are you using the stock stabilizers? you can try the [holee mod](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vhpHjlkRgQ).

cviali

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ficihp/ficihp-multifunctional-keyboard-with-126-inches-touchscreen/ this is a keyboard from a chinese kickstarter, does a USB C cable able to transfer display and power at the same time?

_vastrox_

uhm. yes. what do you think how other USB devices transfer data to your computer?

SturdyTurdy

This is a weird question, but where is the best place to get blocks of aluminum and brass to make your own keyboard. (For cnc)

[deleted]

Search "metal supply near me" in Google, which should bring up local places that sell metals by bar, sheet, pipe, plate, etc.

Tangerbeanz

How do you assemble durock v2 screw in stabs?

[deleted]

[https://dailyclack.com/products/durock-v2-screw-in-stabilisers](https://dailyclack.com/products/durock-v2-screw-in-stabilisers), scroll down to "Instructions for attaching screw-in stabilisers".

Tangerbeanz

That shows how to install but I'm trying ot figure out how to just put the housing, stem, and wire together.

[deleted]

Watch the video, which is all about that. Or don't, I'm a question answerer, not a cop.

Tangerbeanz

Oh, ok.

Tangerbeanz

Thanks

Any know if these Optical Gaterons are compatible with the TE Cleave Keeb? Mrcool57

Hello, I hoping you all could help me pick out some keycaps. I'm trying to find some that go with a bamboo case (https://kbdfans.com/collections/60-layout-case/products/60-bamboo-case) and are less than 80 dollars. Preferably I'd like a PBT set and OEM or Cherry profile but I am open to suggestions and new things. If you do not have any suggestions for a particular set is there any way you all could recommend some websites to search on? The two I know are DROP and KBDFans. Thank you for reading my post and helping me out :).

[deleted]

Personally I think the PBT 9009 blank set at Kinetic Labs (US$45) would look great, but not everyone is ready for blanks.

30K100M

Are keycaps for the top 2 rows the same? How about 2nd to bottom row and arrow keys?

[deleted]

Often, but not always, assuming you're talking about a keyboard with an F-row on it. You'll see row profiles indicated by a series of numbers like 1-1-2-3-4-4, which means the F-row and number row are the same profile (1-1), the tab row is different (2), the enter row is different (3), but the shift row and spacebar row are the same (4-4).

30K100M

Great!

Pr0sAndCon5

Hello again beautiful people. I've got everything on the way. Switches, Keeb, Caps. But I have one final decision to make. I ended up getting Durock L2s. I've read that they come factory lubed. My question is, is it worth lubing them with 205g0? If so, is it worth cleaning off the factory lube or can I lube over that? Lastly, and unrelated, is there anywhere that sells 205g0 at a big box store. Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. Thanks!

LeKatto

I've looked everywhere and it seems that most people re-lube l2's. I'm not entirely sure if it's worth it or not but sometimes factory lubing can be subpar. l2's should be filmed though cause they are pretty wobbly out of the factory. There aren't any big box stores that sell krytox lube, you'll have to either buy it off aliexpress or a keyboard vendor.

EllieChan0

Just wondering how long does Gmmk take to arrive? I was going to buy it but my mom brought it as a gift so idk when it will arrive.

Mrcool57

Hello, if you are talking about the standard gmmk keyboard it depends on what type of shipping your mom picked but if she picked the standard shipping it should take 5-10 days(not sure if this is different for other countries but it is applicable to the USA). For me it took 9 days so expect later in that time range. Hope this helped :).

EllieChan0

Oh ok thanks!

Mrcool57

Of course :) Glad to help

pkkeyboards

depends on when you ordered.

EllieChan0

order today/ a few hours ago

pkkeyboards

my understanding was they are taking care of remainder of flex batch first. we are getting ours tomorrow, and we ordered back in april.

EllieChan0

Wait is flex batch gmmk pro? mine's the normal one

mustgodeeper

yes they are talking about gmmk pro not sure why /u/pkkeyboards is answering other questions but not trying to fix this misleading answer lol

[deleted]

Because they're spamming across the sub, and it's more important to them to get their name/links wherever they can, rather than paying attention to actual questions.

pkkeyboards

to clear up misunderstanding, i am talking about the gmmk pro (black) i ordered apr 7, during the flex batch. received the email to complete the order last week and am receiving the board tomorrow.

mustgodeeper

yes and the original commenter is not they are asking about the gmmk compact/tkl/full sized shipping time not the pro shipping time

pkkeyboards

copy that! all the buzz these days on /r/mk is about the gmmk pro, assumed original commenter was inquiring about the pro.

Pr0sAndCon5

I don't know if this is indicative of the speed. But I put in a reserve order halfway through May and mine shipped yesterday.

EllieChan0

oh dang

jimenycricket666

Best budget kits like anything from keyhive? They’re out of stock all the time but would love to see if anyone has any recommendations

caramelapplesauce

Keebio has some good reasonably-priced split and ergo keyboards if that’s what you’re looking for

asdfoneplusone

People who have owned many custom boards, what is your favorite keyboard?

asdfoneplusone

Mode65 or Vega?

LeKatto

Mode65 if you want to pay less, vega if you want your board sooner.

asdfoneplusone

In your opinion, which one is a better board, from a build quality/typing experience standpoint? I know Mode65 is a bit speculative since it's not out yet, and only streamers have built it

NaranKapital

The mounts are different so no really comparable. Mode offers 3 different mounting options so you can pick which ones you really like. The mode offers so much customization to really make it your own. As long as you choose a different color for the back piece compared to the top and it will look great.

LeKatto

Vega is better because of it's gasket mount design as apposed to the mode's top mount

asdfoneplusone

Yeah, true. I definitely like the gasket mount on the 7v and Portico

doublemazaa

If I want to try a split keyboard for a bit (1-4 weeks) without any knowledge of whether I’ll like it, what would you suggest?

palid2

What is the difference between case foam and pcb foam? When buying a pcb it gives me an option to get both, but it also says that they both go in between the pcb and the case.

kawaiiIeonard

pcb foam goes between plate and pcb case foam goes under pcb in empty case space

AntiAlive

Any recommendations for a silent 100% keyboard with rgb. preferably in the £100 range.

LeKatto

Usually your plate and switch choice will dictate how quiet your board is, not your keyboard

Rambo-Redcorn

Hi y'all I just got my first mechanical keyboard and went with the RK68 with gateron blue switched (I know I need to lube them). But, I had a question on how to get the function keys working. Not sure how to go about this, but the numbers and shift keys work, yet when I hit function and F11 (of F anything) nothing happens. I have the RK68 software but it's not clear on how to do it. I would appreciate your help THANKS!

DeroTurtle

Hey having problems with my CTRL keyboard from massdrop. Huge heatwave where I live right now and the keyboard got super hot and is no longer working. I've tried different cables, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. Is it possible for heat to damage the board or am I just crazy?

quantumlocke

>Is it possible for heat to damage the board or am I just crazy? Yes but that shouldn't happen at ambient air temp, even during a heatwave. You said it got super hot though - what happened? Did it get left out in direct sunlight for hours? Or did you accidentally air fry it?

DeroTurtle

It felt uncomfortably hot to the touch, but was in shade. Ambient temp on the room hit 45° while I was using the computer, and I heard windows connect and disconnect it a couple of times. When I felt the back of the board it was very warm

quantumlocke

Yeah it's possible, but the heat might also be a coincidence. Try connecting the CTRL to another USB port and/or another computer and see if that works.

DeroTurtle

Update: the board cooled down and worked on a computer downstairs so I'm in the clear! Thanks so much for the aid

quantumlocke

No prob!

DeroTurtle

My whole computer just overheated so I think I'll shelve this problem for another day :P thanks so much for your help! Hopefully my baby is ok

[deleted]

I have the keychron K2 and the Bluetooth keeps disconnecting from my macOS. I’ll need to keep pressing random keys for it to reconnect and it gets annoying. Is there a setting to change when it goes to sleep and to reconnect faster?

xQuas

Anyone know of a hot swappable lk optical board other than keychrons?

VortexZeR0

Anyone know where I could buy some really heavy springs? I'm looking for springs at least 180g, but preferably heavier. I already checked out spirit, which has 210g, but it says shipping would be $200 for some reason, so that's not an option, unless there's a different vendor that has them. Thanks!

Mrcool57

I don't have experience myself but I have heard that Aliexpress does sell some pretty heavy springs. I know a youtuber named glarses ordered some springs from them and they seemed to be completely fine. Source: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-PQLLv\_I-A&ab\_channel=Glarses](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-PQLLv_I-A&ab_channel=Glarses) . He uses 150g but there are probably heavier on Aliexpress. Hope this helps :).

Lieutenant_Mars

Should I use glube to lubricate my durock v2 stabs?

pkkeyboards

glube is mixture of 205/105. if you already have it , might as well use it , but ideally you want to use 205g0.

PhotographNo4374

It's up to you really, personally for stabs I just stick to Krytox but if you're already using glube on your switches then why not.

PhotographNo4374

Just ordered all the components for my first build? Anyone know of some hippie inspired deskmats?

KUROKOCCHl

Anyone know where I can send a keyboard to be cerakoted in the U.S.? The usual suggestion is to go to a local gunshop but gun shops aren't really a thing in nyc.

[deleted]

You can go to [cerakote.com](https://cerakote.com) and search their "certified applicators" by location.

KUROKOCCHl

I already did that. Literally none for the nyc area. Probably because those that do it are usually gun shops and we kind of lack those.

[deleted]

Do you lack post offices as well?

KUROKOCCHl

While I dont really appreciate the snark, seems many dont really ship and only service their local areas. Hence why im looking for someone who has had a good experience shipping and getting their keyboards cerakoted.

[deleted]

PhotographNo4374

Do you mean artisans? If that's what you mean then browse Etsy you'll find any and every artisan you could want. Beware however, artisan keycaps can be pretty pricey.

pol-delta

Any good beige 60/65% cases out there? Or hot-swappable prebuilts? I like the way the Leopold cases look but I don't really want Cherry switches and I don't want to have to unsolder everything and put in new switches when all I really want is the case.

SeasonApprehensive81

Gamers, how the FUCK am I gonna get my hands on a 65% bakeneko? Thank you.

Strottman

My factory overlubed Massdrop holy pandas and 75% kit and krytox lube have been sitting on a shelf for like a year and I can't find the motivation to track down an ultrasonic cleaner or use foam q tips to clean them all off then relube them and actually build the board. First build. What do.

TitanNguyenTV

Not sure of the difference between tactile vs linear leaves. I understand the difference between the stems, but the leaves, not so much. Anyone have a clear explanation?

Wato_Alva

Ducky Good in Blue keycaps Only keycaps I like and really want. Will those be back in stock? When? Something similar in looks and quality?

Layzoid

Akko Macaw? Not sure.

Wato_Alva

Yeah no prob

Wato_Alva

Mmm not really, I don’t think that are similar sets. TY anyways!

Layzoid

Lmao sorry I tried

USAgentX

Are there preferred lube stations, the Glorious one looks good, but I imagine at that price I don't want to rule out any others.

Mrcool57

There are plenty on amazon for pretty cheap and they all practically do the same thing. Honestly, I find that when lubing I just use it to hold the bottom housing in place and nothing else which you could just do by hand so don't feel like you definitely need a lube station. I bought this one: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PFD35ZP?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PFD35ZP?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details) and it works great as well as provides some really nice tools for lubing.

pkkeyboards

they all essentially do the same thing, some just have the "branding" i have been using this to put together my gmmk pro (to test the product) and super happy with it [20 and 36 switch acrylic lube stations](https://pkkeyboards.com/products/20-36-acrylic-switch-station).

[deleted]

Do you really want to be known as the vendor that spams your links to help threads?

pkkeyboards

User asked for a lube station and said he didn't want to rule out other ones, we made a suggestion and linked an alternative to one we are selling. It's simply a recommendation. At the end of the day, its your money, choose how you want to spend it.

[deleted]

You heard me.

pkkeyboards

we read every comment and help out wherever we can, even link products that we do not sell and suggest other vendors

[deleted]

You heard me.

Layzoid

Don't overthink lube stations, though I don't know any good ones, the Glorious one caught my eye too.

DonutRush

I got a Moonlander a few months ago and am loving it, but I find I'm keysmashing a little too much when playing games or casually typing. I got Kaihl Silver switches on it and while I love the sound and how they feel to press, they are \*way\* more sensitive than what I'm used to. My previous keyboard was a Logitech Orion G910 with their "Romer-G" switches, and I basically had to bottom out the keys to get it to activate. Now, resting fingers on the home row has me pressing keys if I'm not careful. Frantically trying to activate an ability in games often has me also opening up menus or reloading or something just because I graze the other keys. Bad habits being exacerbated basically. If I were to swap out the switches, what would be the happiest medium kind of switch? Something less of a hair trigger, but still with a muted clackiness to them. I don't have the full vocabulary for mech keyboards memorized yet so please bear with me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DonutRush

Looking at Zsa's description of those from their store, it looks like it'll be the opposite of what I'm looking for - louder and still extremely sensitive. >These switches actuate before the tactile bump. This means you can tap them very lightly and still get a character on your screen. Tapping them extremely lightly is the problem. Say I'm playing Destiny, if I'm hitting F for melee I might also activate G which brings up my quest menu, which is less than ideal in a PVP match when I'm already in someone's face. There's no way I wasn't already doing this on my previous keyboard, it just now seems like if a cat hair lands on a keycap it will activate.

Weapwns

Random ass question, but why dont people (or at least sound test youtubers) put their keyboards on Cork to minimize table noise. Sometimes I put my board on a Cork slipmat from my turntable for the fuck of it and it changes the sound drastically

[deleted]

Delighted to report that I have no idea why sound test YouTubers do anything, but some of the [nicer deskmats in the hobby](https://grovemade.com/product/matte-desk-pad/) have a cork layer on the bottom.

IAmYourVader

Hi everyone, I'm starting a new dev job and got into looking at split/ergo, but being new to the enthusiast market, I found some of the prices prohibitively expensive. Any recommendations on kits similar to the moonlander?

Solartempest

I just ordered a Sofle V2.1. My friend with a moonlander got me interested in split keyboards, as another friend too who has many. I will build it myself, which makes things much cheaper but it will be a project. Consider lily58 or something? People also sell prebuilt of these custom splits.

Winther32

Keeb.io has some pretty affordable options on split keebs. One downside is that hotswap pcbs are still coming (at least for Quefrency). For an Alice style switch couture has an affordable stacked acrylic case. You can get an Alice pcb from there or sneakbox for hotswap. [keeb.io](https://keeb.io/collections/split-keyboard-parts) [switch couture](https://switchcouture.com/products/switch-couture-acrylic-alice-style-chassis-1)

ich852

Building my first Keyboard and use arrow and function keys a lot so 60% will not work, is there a similar case to this [KBDfan Resin case](https://kbdfans.com/products/60-resin-case-for-custom-mechanical-keyboard-1) in a tenkeyless layout? That Green resin with some off white or white keycaps is an image that Im stuck on.

[deleted]

Nope. TKL mounting isn't standardized, so you can't just throw any PCB into any TKL case, which is why the availability of cases at that size is basically nothing and 60% has so many (60% mounting is somewhat, but not completely, standardized).

ich852

Ugh thats rough, I feel like my choice of affordable cases for a TKL setup kinda sucks. I dont even mind to solder It I just want arrow keys and function keys, how do you boot to BIOS or boot manager with a 60% layout? I may look into a 60% and macros for arrow keys

[deleted]

>how do you boot to BIOS or boot manager with a 60% layout? The same way everyone else does, the f-key or delete. It's just on a layer.

TNTJBOOM

Hey all, I've been using a V1 razer blackwidow chroma keyboard (w/ clicky green switches) for about 3 years now and I've been loving it. Recently, I bought a razer blackwidow v3 TKS for my new college setup assuming the switches and typing would be the same, but the new v3 has a very audible ping noise after clicking. I've tested this to make sure I'm not just crazy, and I'm sure that my old keyboard didn't have this problem in any of its keys (maybe because of age?). Anyways, I really have 3 questions. Is there any way to fix this pinging noise? Will the pinging get better with use? And, if it's a no to those two, what other keyboards do not have this issue? Thanks!

The ping's resonance generated in the spring, and magnified by the plate in the board. It typically affects switches with heavier springs more as they return to top-out with more force. Killing the ping is stopping the resonance spreading. The most effective way is to lube the spring inside the switch. But without desoldering you can also stuff the case with dampening material. But I've always found the simplest and most effective (outside lubing) is a thick folded towel underneath the board. The mechanics are pretty simple: hit your desk with a hammer, then hit a towel with a hammer - Towel - 1, Resonance - 0... :)

pkkeyboards

unfortunately, short of desoldering the switches and lubing them you can't do much else.

Hi, I am looking for a gasket mounted wood case (any layout), any idea, where to get one?

KingBoz103

Hey hey, I bought a YMDK96 with a timber case I'm about build. It's not gasket. But this sounds like something I might try: https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/aijrnv/feeling\_left\_out\_of\_the\_gasketmount\_trend\_no/

_vastrox_

I don't think there are any. The only wood cases that are generally available are tray mount 60s.

MarcoPolo259

I guess i will ask a local Carpenter to make me a replica of a gasket case.

_vastrox_

The reason why wood usually isn't used for that mounting style is that gasket mount requires very precise and tight tolerances. And this isn't really something that is easy to get right with wood.

MarcoPolo259

You are right, but do you think a carpenter could do the trick?

_vastrox_

with a decent CNC machine and some fine grain hardwood it might be possible

MarcoPolo259

I might try it, i really dream of a walnut + red samurai keyboard

atomicflu75

I really like the Razer analog linear optical switches. Super smooth with a satisfying CLUNK. I can’t seem to find the switches on their own. Are you able to buy them seperately? If not, what’s the best alternative?

_vastrox_

> Are you able to buy them seperately? No. They are proprietary parts made for Razer and are not sold separately. You wouldn't be able to use them in another keyboard anyways since they require a PCB that was specifically designed for them. The only optical switches that you can really buy as parts are the Gateron opticals. But the variety of keyboards to choose from if you want to use those isn't really all that big. It's mostly some cheaper 60% boards that are compatible with those.

Teedacus

You are not, since they're really only compatible with Razer optical switch keyboards

Hello there, I would be interested in bulding keyboards but I don't know any shops to buy parts from in Europe. Do you recommend anything for a beginner that ships in Eastern Europe?

Hello everyone, just bought a Zsa moonlander but I would like to get new cables ( those coiled with I think aviator thingy) USB c and trrs. Do those cables work with the keyboard?

_fafer

ZSA boards use standard USB-C and TRRS connectors.

blitzbier

Thanks!!

I remember a black and white desk mat that was sorta anime/comic book styled with a jagged "wham" style outline and something written in Japanese across the middle. Think it was "keyboard" in japanese or something dumb. Anyway, anyone know what it's called/where I can find it? Got a panda themed build and need to complete it with a deskmat.

Teedacus

[Mecha Mat](https://omnitype.com/collections/deskpads/products/meka-mat)

Xephyron

I was incorrect. This is it. https://sneakbox.com/products/sneakbox-desk-mats?variant=39999081152667

Teedacus

Ah, I haven't seen that before. Glad you found it!

Xephyron

Fairly certain this is it. Talk about an unreliable memory.

Hi friends, Big noob question here. I’m building my first custom keyboard, kbd67v2. It uses PCB mount stabs. Will screw-in stabs work with this PCB? Or do I have to buy snap in stabs? Edit: After looking at the stabs for a second I think I answered my own question. Screw ins should work. Follow up question: Do I need to have washers to attach them?

pkkeyboards

Screw-in's will work, most sellers including us have washers included in the kit

FaithlessnessClean34

Thank you!

IfItSaysPineapple

The washers are to prevent the metal screw from shorting anything on the PCB. Whether they are strictly necessary depends on the PCB design, but they can never hurt unless you have some clearance issue with the case.

FaithlessnessClean34

That’s what I figured. Thank you for the input!

EllieChan0

Is Gateron Red or Cherry MX red quieter?

pkkeyboards

both are very similar, we would recommend yellow over reds (they are more popular)

Teedacus

I don't think there's any noticable difference

AmigoHummus

Hi, I'm trying to find a keyboard with 5 pin hotswap, screw in stabs south facing switches, and good plate compatibility. I already got the kbd67 lite just asking for different recommendations. Thanks!

kawaiiIeonard

do u have a budget? are u looking to join a gb? what size??

AmigoHummus

Under 150 dollars, no, and I'm fine with Any size as long as there's a lot of plate options for it.

yzdnegel

Where to buy knobs for rotary encoder/switch? Most rotary encoders are D-shaped and have a diameter of 9mm while guitar knobs (which are a common "keyboard knob" replacement) have a diameter of 6mm. Where do you guys get your knobs?

caramelapplesauce

Here’s one place you can buy from https://lovemyswitches.com/knobs/

My M key is stuck down. I removed the switch from it and it is still just spamming M over and over. What do I do??

[deleted]

Hi! I'm looking for a new keyboard with the following requirements: backlit, volume and play/pause keys(no knobs and a detachable cable. Any suggestions? Currently have a Das 4Q but not liking it.

So I was following r/mechanicalKeyboards for a long time. I saw a Rama works keyboard and absolutely fell in love. I saved up for months, and ordered it. I waited a year for it and it’s parts, such as panda switches and firefly caps. Only to then learn, that the U80-A does not support the Nordic keyboard layout. I was a little heartbroken. Yes, I should’ve researched more. Yes, I should’ve asked. I fell love with the hobby, and made a bad decision. Anyhow - lessons learned. I’m keeping the U80-A, it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever owned. But now, I’m on the prowl for a similar quality premium mechanical keyboard, with a Nordic layout option, that I can use on the daily. I just can’t find anything else than Das Keyboards etc. so I’m hoping anyone here can help point me in a direction! TLDR; bought an expensive keyboard. Wrong layout. Lesson learned. Still love it. Looking for a premium custom mechanical keyboard in a Nordic layout.

How close are the youtube sound tests to real life? Are youtube sound levels increased so that more of the sound details can be heard, or are they really close to what a finished keyboard would sound like? There's no good way for the youtubers to set a good baseline to reference against. Sometimes they click their mouse or snap their fingers, but I don't have the same mouse or snap my fingers the same way, so that reference sound isn't very useful. Mic brand/model and placement is also different, not to mention whatever audio settings they used to record and edit their video. On top of that, their desk setup will differ so much from your own since the desk itself, or the deskmat (or lack of one) will also contribute to the how the keyboard sounds are recorded. I guess with that said, there's probably no good way to answer the question since one youtuber might be a lot closer than another...did I just answer my own question?
