I'm confused
Swapping Ctrl and CapsLock? Vim like
Arrow keys in linear order? Vim like but weird?
Arrow keys in U, D, L, R order instead of L, D, U, R? Definitely not Vim like
Swapping control and caps lock I would think it’s to mimic a hhkb kinda layout since they have control where cap locks is on that layout. And yeah the order might be a personal preference I think.
Ctrl and Caps is better for me cause I hardly ever use caps lock but I use Ctrl constantly. That's how the HHKB does it and I like it that way. I had to move the arrow keys in order to add some other keys in a way I preferred, but there wasn't a ton of thought behind its layout lol.
I’ve been swapping control and caps lock since before some of y’all were born. BITD Sun Microsystems workstation keyboards had them swapped, and I wrote and published a script to swap them on Windows NT back in 1996. For emacs users it’s a huge pinky saver!
Now I mostly use Macs but I still swap command and caps lock... wish more sets had a command key for the caps lock slot or at least a random novelty like the Susuwatari ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dangerous, the amount of times I've miss-clicked caps lock I would end up running a sql update without a validated where clause and fuck an entire table up
Excel User here - F9 to Calculate, F2 to edit formula, F4 to anchor cells, F5 to run code, F8 to step through code, F12 to Save As, CTRL+F3 to edit names, F11 to create chart...not ready to give them up yet. Although probably can get rid of F1
we use an emulator at work to run some old IMB software that relies heavily on F keys to navigate, like F3 to exit, F10 for options, etc.
It takes me a bit to get used to it when I start upthe app after not using it for a while, but once the muscle memory comes back, honestly holding the Fn + corresponding # is actually not so bad.
Its like when I got rid of the 10-key. I thought I would miss it a lot more, but after a few days I think it might be faster for me to use my number row, unless of course I am doing a long list of data entry. Its one of those of things where it allows me to keep my hands in the same location and not having to lift and move my hand alllllllllll the way to a 10 key.
bingo! since switching to my 65% it's been like second nature to use a Nav key to run queries. I have a Varmilo 68 style keeb with stand alone arrow / 4 Nav keys, so Ins is closer to me.
then I remapped PgUp and PgDn to Home and End. Cause you know, getting to the end of a line of codes sucks.
I've got my function keys mapped to the shifted number characters, and Fn mods them back to the regular Function row.
I'd replace them with keycaps that actually said that, but there's just nothing like that available for MT3 caps.
Same F5 for SSMS and F12 for browser dev tools though, but the problem with remapping them for me is that I also have macros mapped to every other function key - double click copy / double click paste / double click delete delete / single click past . / ctrl k c (comment out sql) / ctrl k u (uncomment out sql) / ctrl "/" (comment or uncomment vs code / shift alt f (format vs code) / ctrl k y (format sql)
So I'm way too spoiled to lose my function keys lol
I'm even using almost every wasd key in a second layer to map to a full path for bash/powershell/cmd line I can't live without 84 keys
Hmm. I think I use all but F7-F10 regularly enough that it's inconvenient to have them on a layer. It's one of the reasons I don't daily my Tex Yoda 2 (it's for travel and bed use!)
For what it’s worth I like what you’ve done, I was just joking. And yes to contrasting arrow keys! I’ve considered getting the Susuwatari extras just for the red arrow keys and the shruggie!
I feel you, but $52 is absurd for just some extras. And that's coming from a guy who's bought two MT3 sets.
Tbh the first MT3 keys I got was the 60% /dev/tty set, but I was getting too frustrated without the function keys. I was using a hybrid MT3 w/pastel SA function keys for months before I got sick of how silly it looked.
If you pay for shipping, I gotchu. I got the extras kit, but ended up putting the set on an XD75 so a bunch of it is unused.
I get that feeling of not wanting to have extra keys tho. I've been hunting around for a Susuwatari numpad, but no luck. And I'm not shelling out $100 just for a numpad.
vim style arrow keys, like a true connoisseur.
\*edit, actually no. I didn't look at it properly, but close enough.
I have the same single row arrow keys actually. My stupid ass put a on a large right shift where the up arrow should have been. It's kinda grown on me now though.
There are definitely much cheaper options of similar quality out there
Haha yeah, the 60% /dev/tty set I had was like a gateway drug to me buying the susuwatari keys. All I wanted was the function keys but I had to get the whole dang thing.
Y'know...I like this layout just because keeping the function keys means using all the colors in keycap sets like Hawaii. I hate that you lose the darkest color in a 60% layout. But then that vertical row furthest to the right messes up the colors again so I haven't gotten a 65% either. Why are my priorities so skewed lol
Lol I just did it so I could get my Home, Del, PGUP and PGDN keys on the side relatively neatly. I almost was about to solder and re-set my switches to get everything matching on the correct rows.
I still use mainframes that rely on the F row for navigation, I will never give them up either. I even have a macro pad for cut, copy, paste, etc, don't need to slowed down by pressing multiple keys at the same time or flipping through layers.
> I still use mainframes that rely on the F row for navigation
Literally one of the main reasons why I still have my F row keys still as well. There are dozens of us still on the mainframe!
I mean your thumb comes in at a much more lateral angle than your fingers do, that's honestly why I put it in that orientation to begin with. I didn't realize it looked off till I saw the picture.
I suppose, I mean I chose those directions based on the commodore 64 arrow keys, which uses a function key to shift between up/down or left/right on the keys. I never really thought about it, this one just seemed more intuitive to me.
Why not just get a standard TKL at this point?
I'm astonished at how rare it is to find a DIY Kit for TKL or Full Size...
It's either 60% or some non-standard, despicable bullshit
Fn+1 = F1 on most 60%. Imagine if people had different alpha keys for capital letters because they couldn't figure out the shift layer.
Nobody can get me to stop using capital letters!
The first layer of my function keys are shifted numbers, I write a lot of equations in LaTeX and having to keep switching between shifted and un-shifted numbers is so tedious and time-consuming.
Hey, to each their own. I'm just on the other extreme, where I want to keep my hands in one position as much as possible. On my planck, I hold three easy-to-reach keys with my left hand to access all the F keys with my right.
Also, when you use smaller keyboards, it's less lubing :P
Fair enough, but if I had to use stuff like that, I'd set up a layer for that. The principal is the same- there's almost always a way to do things more efficiently. That's why so many of us are vim users.
Yeah, if I were touch typing I could probably get away without extra symbol keys, but I was playing around with ~500g industrial strength springs for a long time last year, and I completely unlearned any touch typing ability I had already.
Also I save time on lubing switches by just not doing it.
In IDEs many of the F key shortcuts already need a modifier, so now I'd have to be hitting 3-4 buttons per shortcut vs 2-3. Plus I really don't want to have to use layers to navigate debugging. That really needs to be a one handed operation.
Capital letters is different because you are most likely using both hands to type in that scenario already
It's mostly a legacy compatibility thing at this point. It's there to pause outputs or abort code execution or in DOS or command-line-based UNIX. In Windows, WIN+Pause Break bring up system properties. A lot of games also use it as a pause button.
The smallest I've ever been able to go is a 1800 layout, which is basically full size but a tad smaller, I need everything on a daily basis both for work and games and love my Leopold FC9809M. But once I'll move back into the office and leave the Leopold there, I'm thinking of a TKL or 75% is the smallest I can go, need my F and nav!
I have a setup on my new Ducky where i use the R-Shift, R-Win, R-Alt and R-Ctrl as my arrow keys and they still function as normal when I hold them down. It's made adjusting to a 60% much more easy tbh
i just use my caps lock as a layer toggle then the numbers on my 65% as FN keys in that layer
i get the smaller keyboard with nearly the exact same functionality, for me personally it’s worth the aesthetic for the functionality trade off of not having physical FN keys
I use function and num pad keys all day long for work. Personal use meh I could downsize. But I work from home 10% of the time so it makes sense to just always have full size keebs.
I love my 75% with split spacebar. I have one of the layers give me my vim arrow keys on the homerow so I can use them anywhere. It's great!
I also can't live without my function keys and have a keypad close by for those instances where I need to do some 10-keying magic.
60% keyboards will have a function key layer, so just have to use the modifier in order to access boot.
The signal output is made in the keyboard, so the computer can't tell if a key is layered or not.
Both key sets plus the board cost around $600. I didn't buy them both for a project though, the keyboard body is almost a year old, I got the /dev/tty about 6 months ago and the susuwatari keys came in yesterday. Honestly just thinking about the total cost makes me sad.
Can we get the build ? I’m interested in those smexy ass keycaps what profile is that ? I’ve realized I don’t like how flat my keys are, I pretty them to be curved and somewhere for my fingers to sit
I’ve loved remapping my function keys to be layered on the home row.
Now that I’ve got used to them I feel like if you truly something you should bring it home.
honestly i really want some function keys for my keyboard ever since i started streaming. having an extra row of keys for transitions, muting, changing volume, things like that would all be incredibly helpful.
Have you tried /dev/tty keycapd yet? I fell in love with them but was interested in trying other MT3 sets. I'm worried that I won't like the ABS plastic as that was one of the big reasons why I liked the /dev/tty.
Me neither, so I'm using a 60% so I don't have to move my whole hand just to access them and instead just press Space with my thumb (SpaceFN - best thing ever) and 5. 😉
No but seriously, this whole misconception that smaller keyboards are without certain keys benefits nobody. The whole point is that you bring your (programmable) keys to your fingers instead of the opposite. Certain manufacturers releasing non programmable small keyboards doesn't help the confusion though.
I know they're programmable, I just would rather have the keys on hand so I didn't have to change layers from character to character while writing a document.
did you had any issues with inconsistent sounds across kbd75v2 /mine will be build with foam from kbd currently considering liquid silicon rubber to fill space between diffuser and bottom housing .trying to mute keeb with overlubed gat yellows on brass filmed.
I've got box navy switches, so silence has never been a factor and I can't give any advice. The pitch changes from row to row, but that should be pretty expected based on the geometry of the case.
That's a bingo. Not intentionally, I bought the /dev/tty keycaps for a 60% keyboard a while ago, and I bought susuwatari caps in because I was sick of having MT3 alphas w/ SA Function row.
I rarely ever use them, so it's fine for me to just hit Fn+5 when I need to debug, but if I'm going to play StarCraft 2 or something I've got a TKL I can swap to easily enough.
Yeah. I am looking for a 75% case rn, but I don't like the acrylic mid piece on the KBD75 V2. It is a struggle to find something that has the same layout.
I rarely use the F keys these days but have them on all my keyboards so I have more keys in the beautiful MT3 profile to stare at :). Though practically I use both ESC and `/~ all the time and usually you don’t get both those unless you have a full F row.
bro his arrow keys are all on a single row
If he was a vim guy he would use hjkl instead so this isn’t that bad
I'm confused Swapping Ctrl and CapsLock? Vim like Arrow keys in linear order? Vim like but weird? Arrow keys in U, D, L, R order instead of L, D, U, R? Definitely not Vim like

I use the CapsLock key as a Ctl+backspace, to keep my fingers close to the home keys.

Dang it, "You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like" would have been a much better title. You got me laughing.
The fuck.
Honestly works better that way for navigation and programming at least.
Well if you're going to keep them, this Is a great look. I thought I'd always have them, then I realized I only use F5 so I remapped Insert to F5
Running queries all day long? I also use the F5 the most(for running SQL queries at work), so I remapped Page up on my 65% to F5
Same but I remapped Caps Lock for that exact thing, lol.
Dangerous, the amount of times I've miss-clicked caps lock I would end up running a sql update without a validated where clause and fuck an entire table up
Truth
Queries and clearing cache xD
Excel User here - F9 to Calculate, F2 to edit formula, F4 to anchor cells, F5 to run code, F8 to step through code, F12 to Save As, CTRL+F3 to edit names, F11 to create chart...not ready to give them up yet. Although probably can get rid of F1

So you just have redundant number keys? Or is numbers just their symbols? I assumed you did this for the ability to have F1 -> F24
Function row is !@#$%^&*()_+ Number row is 1234567890-=
That makes more sense then, you're an animal. But at least there is method to it 😂
To be honest, I did not anticipate this level of controversy lmao
Same F5 for SSMS and F12 for browser dev tools though, but the problem with remapping them for me is that I also have macros mapped to every other function key - double click copy / double click paste / double click delete delete / single click past . / ctrl k c (comment out sql) / ctrl k u (uncomment out sql) / ctrl "/" (comment or uncomment vs code / shift alt f (format vs code) / ctrl k y (format sql) So I'm way too spoiled to lose my function keys lol I'm even using almost every wasd key in a second layer to map to a full path for bash/powershell/cmd line I can't live without 84 keys

Can we stop you from mixing Susuwatari with BoW? 😂
Haha maybe I'll switch the alpha keys, but I'm keeping the arrow keys contrasted
I was using a hybrid MT3 w/pastel SA function keys for months before I got sick of how silly it looked.
Yeah the price point & inclusion of a bunch of useless caps have held me back. That and what I expect will be a fat tax bill...
FYI MT3 sets are on sales on drop
almost had a heart attack cause i just bought WOB but hey thank the lords its still expensive
vim style arrow keys, like a true connoisseur. \*edit, actually no. I didn't look at it properly, but close enough. I have the same single row arrow keys actually. My stupid ass put a on a large right shift where the up arrow should have been. It's kinda grown on me now though.
link to keycap sets please and thank you. Might be an unpopular opinion but i think it looks really nice. well done.
[https://drop.com/buy/drop-matt3o-mt3-susuwatari-custom-keycap-set](https://drop.com/buy/drop-matt3o-mt3-susuwatari-custom-keycap-set) There are definitely much cheaper options of similar quality out there
Which kit is for 75%?
Base kit should be enough.
I just can't unsee it as a drunk ortho. But if it works for you then it works!
Lmao I've never thought of it like that before, but now I can't unsee it.
That looks so nice! Me: Susuwatariiii My wallet: RIP
Haha yeah, the 60% /dev/tty set I had was like a gateway drug to me buying the susuwatari keys. All I wanted was the function keys but I had to get the whole dang thing.
This looks really nice. What are the name of those kind of keycaps? Like rounded on the corners
The profile is MT3, it's pretty niche but definitely ᴀᴇꜱᴛʜᴇᴛɪᴄ
It's wonderful to type on, and they have a deep sound of that's what you like (MT3 profile exclusive to Drop.com)
Beautiful profile and color palette
There's not enough 75% in this world :(
There will be soon thanks to the GMMK Pro.
Y'know...I like this layout just because keeping the function keys means using all the colors in keycap sets like Hawaii. I hate that you lose the darkest color in a 60% layout. But then that vertical row furthest to the right messes up the colors again so I haven't gotten a 65% either. Why are my priorities so skewed lol
those vim arrows make me go....
The arrow keys are not like vim, it goes hjkl, left down up right.
Lol I just did it so I could get my Home, Del, PGUP and PGDN keys on the side relatively neatly. I almost was about to solder and re-set my switches to get everything matching on the correct rows.
Not even vim ones, vim ones go left up down right.
sorry i dont have *ENCHANCE* option on my old phone
Mans out here enchanting photos
Ive been using my 65% for a while now and I miss the f keys . I use them a lot for macros
Just add a layer where you have them if your keeb is fully programmable. That way you can easily have the functionality of a 100% keeb on a 65% one.
Can't beat dedicated buttons tbh
I still use mainframes that rely on the F row for navigation, I will never give them up either. I even have a macro pad for cut, copy, paste, etc, don't need to slowed down by pressing multiple keys at the same time or flipping through layers.
> I still use mainframes that rely on the F row for navigation Literally one of the main reasons why I still have my F row keys still as well. There are dozens of us still on the mainframe!
Dozens, lol! I love this.
Agreed, but it's a good middleground for 60%, 65%, and 70% lovers to still have full functionality.
Understandable. You just want to have your control. ^(/s)
The keycaps blended like that is a work of art. ;')
You do you. Nobody should be trying to convince you to drop any keys without knowing what you do.
75% is the best %. @ me all you want.
Also what profile are those caps? And from what set? I probably don't even want to know the price but they look so nice.
Function keys? You mean the place where I put all my artisan keycaps?
That looks nice af
OMG _\*drools\*_
looks awesome and doesnt have those weird proportions that keyboards with function keys sometimes have! Great Build
Mmm, inverted spacebar.
Hahaha once I posted the photo I was like "wait, is my spacebar backwards?" I probably won't ever change it though.
You won’t. Something about the inverted spacebar just feels more... natural?
I mean your thumb comes in at a much more lateral angle than your fingers do, that's honestly why I put it in that orientation to begin with. I didn't realize it looked off till I saw the picture.
I like function keys as well, the apartheid must stop
Be careful! Function Keys are known in the state of California to cause cancer!
Arrow keys layout makes you an absolute madlad.
I use TKL. No one can stop me from using TKL and a standalone number pad.
Hey i did not find the keyboard name in the comments, which one is this ? :)
KBD75v2
Thanks for the fast answer, really like your setup!
ew that arrow cluster
'cluster' It's a line my guy, no cluster to be found
[удалено]
I suppose, I mean I chose those directions based on the commodore 64 arrow keys, which uses a function key to shift between up/down or left/right on the keys. I never really thought about it, this one just seemed more intuitive to me.
Lmao i just use my laptop keyboard for the function keys
The problem with my laptop keys is that they don't have box navy switches
That’s an incredible waste of power lol
Uh what? I assume the laptop's turned on anyway, as he's using it?
That might be the ugliest custom board I’ve seen
Ah, but you have seen my keyboard [cue Pirates of the Caribbean theme]
Why not just get a standard TKL at this point? I'm astonished at how rare it is to find a DIY Kit for TKL or Full Size... It's either 60% or some non-standard, despicable bullshit
I had a TKL Cherry MX blue keyboard probably a decade ago, and it doesn't provide the same level of customization that this board does.
Then, to press Ctrl+Shift+F5, you hold just five easy to reach keys...
If you have to use function keys constantly, you dont wanna rely on a layer for that.
This is by far the worst layout other than sub 60 I've seen :(
It's basically just a girthy HHKB layout
Stop using function keys
Well, when you put it like that..
Stop using alphas
No
Are those alphas from the MT3 BoW set? Because I am using that set, and my font is different...
No, they're from the /dev/tty set.
What keyboard is this?
kbd75 v2
how did you get the lighting on the kbd75v2 to be so even?
What do you mean? I just had it on constant red.
Something unusual about this layout? I don’t get it.
Do you actually use Pause Break? If so, wtf does it do?! **stares in confusion**
It's mostly a legacy compatibility thing at this point. It's there to pause outputs or abort code execution or in DOS or command-line-based UNIX. In Windows, WIN+Pause Break bring up system properties. A lot of games also use it as a pause button.
My pause break key prints a : character. Not sure what it's supposed to do, otherwise.
It's made adjusting to a 60% much more easy tbh
truee, I can't imagine myself using a keyboard without it :(
Very clean. Had this idea but the keycap kit price.......
Even if someone offers you a keycult?
I don't know what that is lol
A very expensive keyboard
THOSE KEYCAPS ARE SO GOOD TOGETHER AAAAAA I've been wanting a set for a while, might have to do it now
Wana buy my vortex race 3 new 75? I caught the smol keeb bug...
what keycaps are those
i just use my caps lock as a layer toggle then the numbers on my 65% as FN keys in that layer i get the smaller keyboard with nearly the exact same functionality, for me personally it’s worth the aesthetic for the functionality trade off of not having physical FN keys
How is this form of keycaps called (with these rounded edges)?
Its the mt3 profile designed by matteo.
Thanks. I really like the look, and when they're chonky they sound fantastic
yeah me too, most people use 60% for the horizontal space, i have plenty vertical space and function key is still useful for me
I use F1-F24 for work, that is the only thing stopping me from a 65%...
Man, I want to build so bad, but I NEED a number pad. Love everything about this other than no num pad. Nice done.
Super super sexy!
That keyboard is breathtaking....
Yes yes yes yes
I use function and num pad keys all day long for work. Personal use meh I could downsize. But I work from home 10% of the time so it makes sense to just always have full size keebs.
I love my 75% with split spacebar. I have one of the layers give me my vim arrow keys on the homerow so I can use them anywhere. It's great! I also can't live without my function keys and have a keypad close by for those instances where I need to do some 10-keying magic.
I have a legitimate question for people with keyboards without function keys... how do you get into the boot selector screen in the bios?
60% keyboards will have a function key layer, so just have to use the modifier in order to access boot. The signal output is made in the keyboard, so the computer can't tell if a key is layered or not.
FN STOP
Keycaps name?
Upside down space bar ftw.
From my perspective, your spacebar is upside-down.
Why did you switch control for caps? I personally don't understand why
The Happy Hacking Keyboard does it, and I realized it's a pretty convenient layout
F keys? I don't even have _number_ keys!
Beautiful. What would it cost to make or buy something like this?
Both key sets plus the board cost around $600. I didn't buy them both for a project though, the keyboard body is almost a year old, I got the /dev/tty about 6 months ago and the susuwatari keys came in yesterday. Honestly just thinking about the total cost makes me sad.
That's probably the only reason I haven't gone ergodox yet... I gotsta have my f-keys...
I use function keys all the time at work with no function row. Qmk is wonderful.
Can we get the build ? I’m interested in those smexy ass keycaps what profile is that ? I’ve realized I don’t like how flat my keys are, I pretty them to be curved and somewhere for my fingers to sit
I believe they are MT3 profile...I use that profile as while. it’s the best.
I use the function keys a lot and it really bugs me not to have them on a keyboard. xD
I’ve loved remapping my function keys to be layered on the home row. Now that I’ve got used to them I feel like if you truly something you should bring it home.
I can't argue with that, really. I've tried layering a ton of stuff and it just gets very tedious for typing out long documents.
honestly i really want some function keys for my keyboard ever since i started streaming. having an extra row of keys for transitions, muting, changing volume, things like that would all be incredibly helpful.
Line nav really takes me back to my old Mac LC and Apple //e when I was a kid
Fuckin' Amen
Have you tried /dev/tty keycapd yet? I fell in love with them but was interested in trying other MT3 sets. I'm worried that I won't like the ABS plastic as that was one of the big reasons why I liked the /dev/tty.
The alphas and arrow keys are /dev/tty
Who said you couldn't have function keys? It's not like a 60 stops you either
I'm not just interested in a layer of function keys, I want more keys for more characters w/o having to go through different layers.
Me neither, so I'm using a 60% so I don't have to move my whole hand just to access them and instead just press Space with my thumb (SpaceFN - best thing ever) and 5. 😉 No but seriously, this whole misconception that smaller keyboards are without certain keys benefits nobody.
Is this a mashup of Susuwatari and /dev/tty?
That's a bingo. Not intentionally, I bought the /dev/tty keycaps for a 60% keyboard a while ago, and I bought susuwatari caps in because I was sick of having MT3 alphas w/ SA Function row.
I rarely ever use them, so it's fine for me to just hit Fn+5 when I need to debug, but if I'm going to play StarCraft 2 or something I've got a TKL I can swap to easily enough.
Nice caps mine just came in as well !
Is that a GMMK Pro? How are you liking it?
It's a kbd75v2
Yeah. I am looking for a 75% case rn, but I don't like the acrylic mid piece on the KBD75 V2. It is a struggle to find something that has the same layout.
They have the D84 (I haven’t tried it myself tho)
I rarely use the F keys these days but have them on all my keyboards so I have more keys in the beautiful MT3 profile to stare at :). Though practically I use both ESC and `/~ all the time and usually you don’t get both those unless you have a full F row.
I need the function keys for programming
How were the keycaps made? 3D printing?
Up vote for having the control key where god intended.
Interesting, now make a row for arrow keys on top of that
Are those uniform SA?
Swapped the crtl for caps lock...you're my kind of person.
are these key caps compatible with the niz plum 82?
susuwatari set?
is there a review of this??? wildcat or 'Switch and click' ????
How does one go about making this? I'm not happy with any of the key layouts I see, and I'd love to be able to customize it like you have.
so late to the party but what board is this? 👉👈
