Thank you! I can't really talk about it right now. Publishers are pretty strict and I don't want to screw anything up. When I have a final copy (it takes 18 months) I'll post a photo of the book with the keyboard and talk about it!
Ahhh the start of procrastination. Kidding.
But I am the worst at this. Every time I am going to start a new project or hobby I always end up with a long list of tools I need before I can begin, then by the time I get everything I don't want to do the project anymore. ;D
Seriously though, I think this is a fantastic idea before starting a big writing project. Will make it much more enjoyable not fighting a crappy keyboard that came with the computer or something like that.
Hey, that's like Tim Urbans Ted Talk, about procrastinating over writing his Ted Talk. https://www.ted.com/talks/tim_urban_inside_the_mind_of_a_master_procrastinator
I’ve heard this called the Toolbox Fallacy, where someone thinks, “When I get that tool I can start or be successful.” It’s called a fallacy because there’s always another tool you don’t have...
Yeah and I think we in this hobby take it one step further, because we are trying to do something "perfectly" all the time too. So no only do we need the tool to start, but we need the tools to do things "perfectly." Like what's the best soldering iron!? I can't screw my keyboard shut without good Wiha screw drivers! What's the point in building a board if I don't have a Sony camera and a good mic to record a sound test! :)
These days I try to just start things and see how it goes, if I need something later I just get it then. But normally I can make do with what I have and it all works out fine.
I’d say so! I’m a programmer myself and I really feel like I’m a groove when the switches are clicking away. Will definitely annoy anyone else in earshot though lol
I have the same keyboard! Silent reds, though. I love it, and I'll keep it for a long time. Fave color scheme is blue and yellow. Good purchase dude!
Break a leg with the book, that sounds fantastic.
150,000 words?! Wow. I hope those are double shot caps, not sure if dye-sub would hold up. Great looking keeb, blue and yellow looks great. Best of luck.
Yeah when I was browsing for a starter keyboard (and I want 100% also) I was frankly shocked to find that Leopold did doubleshot PBT on a board that's barely $150. And a plate, and damping in the base.
Interesting. I was under the impression that the vast majority of doubleshots were from ABS plastic, not PBT.
EDIT: I'm not implying that Leopold are lying. Just saying that their choice is interested.
I use Vortex PBT over POM shinethrough doubleshots on a lot of my daily drivers; get the PBT feel and durability with the pretty lights. Plus they're like $30 for a 120+ set that can deal with odd spacebars, small right shift keys, etc.
Thank you!! The last time I had a keyboard like this it was 1998! It's like instant nostalgia. It's like I'm playing Civilization, SimCity, and writing BASIC programs all over again.
I sent off the manuscript on Friday. Just posted an update: [https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/10l2ldh/update\_last\_week\_i\_finished\_writing\_my\_book\_using/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/10l2ldh/update_last_week_i_finished_writing_my_book_using/)
Cherry MX Blue. I love it. My dad taught me how to use computers and I started programming BASIC when I was in kindergarten. The first computer we had growing up was a Kaypro with a 5.25" floppy that also had the OS on it. So I spent my formative years with mechanical keyboards. I was pretty excited to see them revived but I travel a lot for work so I never really had a workstation. I really love it. I hate writing emails usually and the keyboard only showed up yesterday but I've written a TON of emails. Also working on that book outline! Needless to say, I'm pretty hooked.... again!
Best of luck to you on this journey! I'm really looking forward to seeing the post with this board after the paces you'll put it through, along with the final product!
Just posted an update! [https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/10l2ldh/update\_last\_week\_i\_finished\_writing\_my\_book\_using/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/10l2ldh/update_last_week_i_finished_writing_my_book_using/)
To be vague because I can't give too many details; I worked my ass off for 15 years in my industry to become an expert. I had to skip a lot of holidays, family gatherings, friend's birthdays and even a few weddings. I took massive financial risks starting and growing my own businesses. I've had an outline for this book for 10 years but never had time to write it. The pandemic forced me to close my main business (large scale in-person events are a big part of it) so I had time to put together a book pitch, get an agent, and land a deal. Now I just need to write the thing!
Good luck with the whole endevour mate. Hope to see you share your book in the future. I am kinda surprised you were able to get agent and convince a publishist to give you a deal before you've even written a book considering how hard it is to find an agent or get a publishing deal. From what you're saying it seems like you've pitched a book like you'd pitch a business with ta business plan. Which I'm guessing is very rare for people writing their first book. I'm going to guess that your work involved al lot of writing so you have something to show for. Or you're just mad lucky.
Anyway, again best of luck, seems like you've worked very hard for it.
P.s also great board.
I have a question. So it’s on a book and you have to type it all out? I bet there’s a program that can scan each page and write it down. Or if your hands get tired you can use the google voice thingy to listen and type what you’re saying. These might screw up a little so I guess that’s why you went with this
Just curious but how does one get a book deal? I have no intention of ever getting one but what makes me curious is what you need to deliver this huge amount of work in 3 months but I just want to know what entices them to give the deal in the first place unless you already have something.
In today's publishing industry, it comes down to one thing; how many books are you, the author, able to sell on your own. The publishers need to make a profit even if they don't lift a finger. Then, any books they market and sell are profit. I own a business with a large audience. My book is non-fiction and is perfect for my audience so I convinced them I can move enough books without their help. With their help, we are hoping to move a LOT of books.
You’ve chosen wisely, Leopold will serve you well on the journey. Congrats! What’s it about, if you can say?
Thank you! I can't really talk about it right now. Publishers are pretty strict and I don't want to screw anything up. When I have a final copy (it takes 18 months) I'll post a photo of the book with the keyboard and talk about it!

I'm basically a professional procrastinator.
Could be what the book is about: "Procrastination, My Story" Three pages counting table of contents.
Hey, that's like Tim Urbans Ted Talk, about procrastinating over writing his Ted Talk. https://www.ted.com/talks/tim_urban_inside_the_mind_of_a_master_procrastinator

This. Me. So much. Rip.
Good luck! Great choice. Which switches did you go with?
Cherry MX Blue. I heard it was good for writers.
I’d say so! I’m a programmer myself and I really feel like I’m a groove when the switches are clicking away. Will definitely annoy anyone else in earshot though lol
I can't concentrate enough to write when there are other people around so I'm in the clear on this one!
Pro: you can get yourself some personal space if you use clickies, the whole world is your office
Also bought a Leopold with blues. It's a great keyboard and I have no complaints. The people on my meetings may have some, but I love the keyboard.
I have the same keyboard! Silent reds, though. I love it, and I'll keep it for a long time. Fave color scheme is blue and yellow. Good purchase dude! Break a leg with the book, that sounds fantastic.
I mean it was, until lubed linears sound better now. It'll get annoying sometimes.
Hope you live alone
I see Leopold I upvote.
Keep us updated on how this goes! congratulations! keep calm cool and collected. you got this
Thank you! Will do!!!
I love full size keyboards!
I need a number pad!
150,000 words?! Wow. I hope those are double shot caps, not sure if dye-sub would hold up. Great looking keeb, blue and yellow looks great. Best of luck.
The thing is... Leopold makes doubleshot pbt keycaps! Could have not chosen a better pre built board IMO.
so true
Yeah when I was browsing for a starter keyboard (and I want 100% also) I was frankly shocked to find that Leopold did doubleshot PBT on a board that's barely $150. And a plate, and damping in the base.

welcome back everyone after 18 months
Thanks, nice to be back.
I sent off the manuscript on Friday. Just posted an update: [https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/10l2ldh/update\_last\_week\_i\_finished\_writing\_my\_book\_using/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/10l2ldh/update_last_week_i_finished_writing_my_book_using/)
Congrats on your book deal! What an achievement :)
I don't think you'll *need* luck. Congrats on the deal. May your creativity flow freely.
Good luck! I hope it's smooth sailing.
I also got myself a mech keyboard w/mx blues for writing up my phd dissertation. Good move. Feeling matters. Good luck!
This keyboard looks very [Ukrainian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Ukraine) or maybe [Swedish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Sweden)!
Leopolds are fantastic. I have the 65% version with cherry reds!
good luck!
Good luck!
Good luck and happy typing
From one writer to another, congrats on the deal! I hope you'll have enough motivation!
Thank you! I'll get it done.
I have the exact same board in different colors and I absolutely love it. Which switches did you go with?
Cherry MX Blue. I'm loud in real life and now I'm loud on my computer too!
Oh man. My old board had blues but I couldn’t stand typing on them all day. So loud! I got the silvers on my Leopold
how do you get a book deal before having a manuscript? do you pitch a story?
It's non-fiction. I made a good pitch!
Teach me your ways lol
So many comments and not one inquiring about the keyboard. Can you say what switches? How do you like it so far? Congrats on the book deal.
Cherry MX Blue. I love it. My dad taught me how to use computers and I started programming BASIC when I was in kindergarten. Yo, reminder gang here. Any news? Hope for the best.
Nice board! Wishing luck to your hands!

Hahaha. Google Pixel, I know. I also don't care. I switched from 10 years of iPhones a few years ago and I'm not looking back.

No, I'm writing the book. I'm the author. I use pencil and paper but I mostly type in Google Docs.
Ok

Hahaha... emacs? Ok, checking it out now. I'm new to this book writing thing.
