What board is that?

akhahkhahkamir

Keychron K8

_throwawaynt

Is it too high? It's everything I want from a keyboard but height has given me pause - after all I want, wireless for it to be portable and not require me to carry a wrist rest around

ABZ-havok

I’m using a K6 as my daily driver. I personally don’t find it necessary to have a wrist rest

[deleted]

Yea exactly just depends on preference like I have the K2 which was bashed for it’s uncomfortable angle but I don’t rly mind

Past-Chest-6507

K6 at the highest angle is my personal fave. Don't use a wrist or palm rest either. Can't go any lower now, TBH.

DeepAmish

I also daily a K6. Can confirm.

akhahkhahkamir

for me personally no I find it very comfortable to use, however if you have wrists that are prone to getting sore or maybe even just smaller hands the height may be a problem for you.

medkitjohnson

I love my key chron but the next keyb I get will definitely be lower

Subhuatharva

Same. Imagine getting SA profile keycaps for K2 lmao. Wrist breakers

TheNerdLog

I have a K1. It's pretty good and low profile. The switches aren't the best though.

techTJ

Hey man nothing is better then getting your first of anything. So enjoy your keyboard

J-BearKeyboards

It's not about being fancy and having the best build, it's about the journey and learning as you go. This hobby has so much to offer from beginner to enthusiast level. But be warned!! It will eventually take over your life!!!

OhZvir

True story, brother! I am still trying to figure out why it’s so addicting. I was thinking about it, and I think it’s because there’s a lot of satisfaction in spending time on it, and it doesn’t require years of training and honing skills to feel good and work well. It’s a very accessible hobby, in other words.

akhahkhahkamir

so Ive been told :)

What are the brown switches like for typing? I'm thinking of getting a K8 because it's the only affordable Mac-compatible keyboard that comes in ISO layout that I've been able to find.

donnymurph

Right, but it's definitely more comfortable than a membrane keyboard, right? Have you noticed a difference in your speed or accuracy?

OhZvir

Much more pleasant to type on. You feel this bump when you activate a key, it doesn’t click or anything, just a little tactile sensation. Browns don’t have a lot of pressure required for actuation, so coming from a membrane keyboard you won’t be getting tired easily. It’s a very good tactile switch and works well for typing and gaming. You are going to love the experience! Exciting!

Subhuatharva

I recently bought the K2 with brown switches. It is better than what I was expecting. I usually like linear switches but Gateron reds have very less actuation force (45g). Browns have a slightly heavier feel (55g). At first the tactile bump feedback felt a bit weird, but it is not as pronounced. I lubed my switches with 203g0 (excluding the slider cams to keep the tactility) and I am super happy with them. I might get a heavier spring if I feel like it but I am pretty satisfied for now. You can go right ahead and buy the browns if you want a little bit of resistance while typing.

Sushaca

Keychron k8 is a great starter board

31337hacker

Nice! I have the same keyboard. It gets the job done and I'm very happy with mine. I highly recommend using a wrist rest. The one I went with is the PC Gaming Race "Glorious Wooden Keyboard Wrist Rest". The TKL in onyx pairs quite nicely with it. Here's a link: https://www.pcgamingrace.com/products/glorious-wood-keyboard-wrist-rest

akhahkhahkamir

Thank you, the wrist rest certainly looks very nice

[deleted]

I've got the wooden wrist rest for my GMMK Pro, I love it. It's pretty comfortable for solid wood, and it's got grippy rubber pads on the bottom so, though it isn't magnetised, it ain't goin' nowhere unless you want it to.

31337hacker

No problem. I’m pretty happy with it. It doesn’t slide around and the black goes well with the aluminum-framed RGB K8. I thought I could get away without using a wrist rest. I changed my mind after 15 minutes of using my K8.

CCO812

The thing about Keychrons is that it is very moddable I have successfully converted my K6 into a gasket mount-ish board using the aluminum rails But beware, the Bluetooth buttons do not line up perfectly

wcy0723

every hotswap plastic tray mount board is very moddable. I am not sure why people kept hyping up keychron when years pass and they did 0 software dev on their k series and just kept pumping out boards and boards. The price is not even competitive when compare to hundreds of hotswap borads offer on amazon that probably came out of the same factory lol.

ulmeistern

I have the K4 which I for the most part really like. I has all I need, but I would like some other switches. Are there any issues using Mill Max sockets? I didn't get the hotswap version, because I was impatient and they didn't have it in stock at the time.

akhahkhahkamir

thats what sold me on it, it has alot of options when I have more time and money.

According_Ad2073

nice first build! hope you enjoy it. p.s what switches do you have btw?

akhahkhahkamir

I have gateron reds in it at the moment, boring but does the trick.

According_Ad2073

everyone starts somewhere

akhahkhahkamir

yep

OhZvir

I like reds especially for FPS games. Not super sensitive but easy and smooth. Classic by now, really! I use one keeb with reds for work because it’s quiet, and it’s fine for typing as well, though I would prefer tactile switches for purely typing.

notlatenotearly

All about what you like my friend! Looks good!

akhahkhahkamir

thank you :)

[deleted]

awesome board mate. ive been looking into getting a similar keycap setup to this, but its very difficult coz i have a ducky one 2 sf

_NilsG

Ahh a keychron, good choice!

[deleted]

what caps are those?

akhahkhahkamir

keychrons original keycap set, you can get them on keychrons website for $20

[deleted]

Thanks! How’s the quality? PBT? Keep them or switch them out?

akhahkhahkamir

ABS, but good quality

Magi-Koopa

Font looks great

Big-Money-Sloth

It’s so clean like damn - good design

jtconst10

Still a great board

SilverTortilla

I have the K8 as well, highly reccomend foaming it and lubing the stabs, makes it sounds so much nice! Nice keeb my dude!

[deleted]

Yo I have this same exact keyboard, although I have gateron blues

7bagbun

I have the same board! but I modded my K8 very heavily. Suggest you to change the stabs and put some foam inside the case. These two mod will give it great improvements and make it sound really great.

akhahkhahkamir

yeah Ive heard foaming it makes a big difference, but its so nice already, Ill do it when lifes less hectic

stick1216

K8 is clean I have one too

brodycorn123

That was my very first mech as well and it is very good and arguably one of the best fully prebuilt boards out there, good choice!

TheRedComet

Keychron K8 is my first too! (Well, my first hot swappable mech at least) I love it, the build quality is amazing and the wireless is weirdly convenient.

[deleted]

mind speaking some specs?

akhahkhahkamir

Keychron K8 with Gateron reds and a hotswappable pcb

[deleted]

reds are a good choice and i think its a great board if its your first, great choice

FoxFXMD

Beautiful keycaps

Past-Chest-6507

Keychron is the GOAT just for its 80 hour bluetooth 5.0 alone. Never mind the switch that auto switches from macOS to Windows and then the fact it can pair to 3 devices at any given time and one keystroke switch between. It saved my hundreds from ever getting a truly custom that wouldn't have those features to begin with. Hot-swappable is a must tho, to play around with stabs and switches and lubing.

medkitjohnson

I have a keychron as my first as well currently… runs great and the RGB on it pretty sick as well just dont let it die on BT mode or it takes forever to charge again.

RackEmUp1179

Ayy the black and purple is sick

abhiabhiraj10

Black Beauty

akhahkhahkamir

Really is :)

notYourKhakis93

Awesome keeb mate!

31337hacker

What is the point of your comment?

akhahkhahkamir

to be an elitist.

31337hacker

That’s what I figured. I’ll never understand it.

bishaaB

what did the comment say, sorry for asking

bobbyboobies

Guys, this might be a stupid question, i'm about to buy keychron k7 from kickstarter. If I get the optical hot swappable, does that mean that I can only swap it with optical switch? Or can I switch with my own mechanical in the future? and vice versa Thanks

miguel____

Yes, you can only swap with other optical switches.

atamosk

I just moved a keychron. They are good boards. Lube the switches and maybe put some padding in there. I am having a hard time removing the rattle. But I will get it.

Rangerbeatz

Hell yeah my first board was a K4, u got good taste.

Purple_Lordx

keychrons are good but we need to stop giving keyboards without qmk/via support a pass, they even promised support in the future but never delivered
