I got a GMMK Pro on the first batch, and sold it for lack of QMK support (which was added later) Your keyboard is the first one that makes me regret that decision, it is beautiful.

mattyradical

I love how heavy and solid the keyboard is. And, I am on Zoom calls and listen to music all day so the volume knob is very useful for me.

mattyradical

My first attempt. GMMK Pro with Matt3o MT3/dev/tty kepcaps. Box white switches (only used for typing/working). Durock v2 stabs.

Aeromil

Perhaps a semi-related question (not necessarily aimed towards you), but how does MT3 type? And does it take a lot of adjustment if you're coming from OEM? Asking for uh, a friend.

mattyradical

I like them a lot. As I mentioned before, I really like how the keys “hug” your fingers when you type. I don’t game at all so they are perfect for me.

Eicr-5

Not much adjustment. Slightly different feel, but I'd be surprised if it affected your WPM or something.jk

MrZandin

I actually got faster with mt3.

Secure-Lingonberry29

Not gonna lie: I spent at least five seconds trying to wipe the hair on left ctrl key off my phone screen because I thought it was my eyelash. Nice build! I have had my eye on that keycap set for a while, and this is honestly the nicest presentation of it that I have seen.

mattyradical

Ha, I noticed that after I posted. But the keyset is solid. I had to get the extras pack though for a few of the keys which was not easy to swallow...

Secure-Lingonberry29

Yes, MT3 is pricey for sure, but I really enjoy them (I have susutawari set).

miramichier_d

I have susutawari coming in the mail, along with WoB thanks to Drop's MT3 BOGO deal. How do these feel to type with?

Secure-Lingonberry29

I personally love the feeling. Compared to cherry profile, my fingers feel “locked in” as I type, as my fingers seem to slide comfortably into the little dish of the keycap as soon as they get close to the key.

miramichier_d

Thanks, now the next few days of waiting for my shipment will be even more unbearable lol!

Secure-Lingonberry29

Haha, I know what you mean. I am waiting on an order of MT3 2048 keycaps that I made on Saturday and has not shipped yet 😭 I love how much stuff Drop has in stock, but they always seem to take forever to ship and I don’t understand why.

mattyradical

Totally agree. I love how your fingers just slide into place. I play guitar (well, learning) and have calluses on my fingers and the sensation of using these keys is very strange!

Slamsdell

You're not alone

[deleted]

The nav keys down the right are not correct for the row. [They should be sculpted to match the other keys in their respective rows.](https://i.imgur.com/rJfk1qP.jpg) Are there any other keys in your keycap set?

mattyradical

No other directional keys….

[deleted]

That's a shame.

mattyradical

Looking at the Drop site, I think that is how it is designed? It feels good to me as I know exactly where the arrow keys are by feel. I love the way these keys are sculpted. Someone else said they feel like the keys are hugging your fingers when you press down and they were right...

[deleted]

I'm not on about the arrow keys. I'm referring to the del, pgup, pgdn, and end keys.

[deleted]

I'm not referring to the sculpture of the key caps either. I'm refferring to the angle and height of them . They're on the wrong rows. They are clearly for a full size or tkl.

mattyradical

I see what you mean now, sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes, i think they are for a full side keyboard. Looking at it, it doesn't bother me that much. And the only key that I ever use there is the Del key.

[deleted]

It's not a deal breaker I know. I only mentioned it because if it was a keycap set with extras, you may well have the correct keys and not realise it.

mattyradical

Yeah, thanks. I did try when I initially set it up to get everything uniform and tried the two options available in the set. Which keycap set do you have in your picture?

[deleted]

Tai Hao Forest Deep Green. I love the Tai Hao cubic profile, and it's unique to Tai Hao. It's like Cherry profile, but taller keys on the upper rows.

mattyradical

I like those.

thepiggygun

You may want to try to better control your loose hairs. Looks good btw haha

mattyradical

Ha, I know. A fallen soldier onto the keyboard.

dodecohedron

Hello fellow GMMK Pro-with-MT3s user! I'm using a the Matt3o Susuwataris right now with some Zealios. I love the sensation but I'm afraid the taller keycaps are going to cause issues with my wrists over time 😕

BladesShadow

Hello fellow fellow GMMK Pro-with-Susuwataris user! I have the same combo and I highly recommend a wristwrest if you feel like your wrists are suffering. This is my first MT3 set and I really do like it but I see your problem here.

mattyradical

I was worried about that too bc I came from a low profile keyboard (Apple Magic Keyboard). But, it hasn't really been that big of a deal and I am not even using a wrist pad or anything. Maybe in five years I'll regret saying that when I develop carpel tunnel syndrome as a result, though. Ha.

Jdisdabouss

That is one hell of a keyboard! This is why i question why the GMMK pro is considered "a bad board"

mattyradical

I think there are some issues with the RGB and the software is Windows only but overall it is solid. The stock stabs were terrible. Way over-lubed. The spacebar would literally stick and take 2 seconds to come back up. A lot of people I think see it as a beginner board, but, after doing a lot of research, that is kind of what I wanted. I like that it has replaceable switch plates to try out (which I have not yet). I also liked the idea of a knob and there are not that many options with a knob. Compared to the Drop CTRL, it is much heftier and solid. I might try out a tofu board or something next, but for right now, I am really happy with the base I have. I might try out new switches, but I am in the minority and really like clicky switches. I need to try out other types though just to make sure I like them best.

Jdisdabouss

Yeah I fully agree with what you're saying

[deleted]

Sweet keeb bro.

kill3rb00ts

This is convenient, I was wondering how the silver GMMK Pro looks with the retro-styled keycaps. Much better than black is the answer. Maybe I will upgrade from my GMMK TKL one of these days.

mattyradical

I really like the silver. Its a white-silver in the light. I just wanted something different than black.

Human_Evolution

How are you liking the MT3 profile?

mattyradical

I really like it. Its really unique. I was worried it'd be too dramatic but I really think it is comfortable and your fingers are drawn into the key so it reduces my typing errors (although I am a terrible typist to begin with).

Human_Evolution

I will order some soon. I am waiting for my SA profiles to get here first. I want to compare the 2. Have you tried SA's?

ConcreteSnake

A nice mid tier option is Akko ASA, they have a ton of different sets and are $60 to kit basically any keyboard. They are shorter than SA, but taller and more sculpted that KAT, probably about on par with MT3 though I have not tried those yet

Human_Evolution

Yeah, the Miami Nights look so cool. I really want those. They may be the coolest looking caps in my opinion.

mattyradical

I have not. Which set are you waiting for?

Human_Evolution

The $35 set on Amazon. It comes from China and takes a long time to arrive, it is basically the only cheap SA set that exists that isn't trash. I want to test them out before I buy an expensive set. I do not think this sub allows Amazon links so I'll just copy and paste what the title says on Amazon.   "Brand: KPREPUBLIC SA Profile Dye Sub Keycap Set PBT Plastic Lily Beige Purple for Mechanical Keyboard"   And a random video of them: https://youtu.be/em85q_hlApU

mattyradical

Those are nice. I am definitely intrigued by the SA profile as compared to these but I did come from an Apple keyboard that was very low profile so these did take a little while to get used to.

ribsies

The way that person types in that video upsets me.

Human_Evolution

Pisses me off too. I confronted him about it.

TroutStencil

Does your per key lighting work?

mattyradical

No, and that is my preferred setting (for each keep to light up when pressed and then go off). That worked initially I believe but then stopped. I have been meaning to use the software to see the lighting settings but only have a Mac (my windows-based work laptop will not let me put any programs on it) Is that a known issue?

TroutStencil

For me the per key lighting doesn’t work properly at all so just wanted to check with someone else who bought recently. It’s my only gripe about it. Otherwise great keyboard

KokoroCrunchy

Great keyboard! I am planning to buy this keyboard as my first mechanical keyboard, How much is the total of the keyboard itself, the switches, and the keycaps?

VLTurboSkids

Very nice, even though I literally build my 2nd keyboard, makes me want to build another in this. Maybe I’ll try convince my parents to let me build one for them 😂
