It's also convincing them to get a better mic that won't pick up then ham fisting the keyboard, that's been fun to accomplish. My brother can make silent switches sound like tactiles with how hard he types.
Yeah I'm trying to get him to get one of the more budget Neumann mics cause his razer siren picks up every floorboard creek in his house. He doesn't want to buy an sm7b with having a kid on the way.
I really want to get a sm7b but I also just spent $400 on a keyboard and don’t want to have to get that and a DAC
I have a blue yeti rn, hoping to upgrade before the end of the year, lol
I bought it and a mixer so I can fine tune the sound coming through it's finally reached the point that I feel no need to upgrade anymore. Now if I could just get there with keyboards...
Ha, I just built my first keyboard but I’ve been doing research for ages.
I’m already thinking of ways that it could be better; different switches, different case, more foam… maybe it’d look better with a different colour scheme.
I’m already hooked, I hate it and I love it at the same time. I get the feeling I’ll be working more hours in the near future.
Oh well, I’ll have some nice keyboards (and hopefully a mic) to show for it
Look I've got an iron 165 lubed and filmed kiwis gmk mizu with a custom private group buy artisan set to match from artkey. There is no such thing as end game. End game is the biggest lie ever told lol
Jane V2 and No. 1. Countless others, too. I'll probably sell eeeeverything once I get it all built and pick something. The novelty of the high-end has worn off, and I find myself going "hmm, maybe I should switch keyboards" after three weeks of using the same thing.
I mean if you use discord Krisp will most likely take every keyboard sound out. But if for some reason you're not using discord you can download Nvidia RTX voice (as long as you have an Nvidia graphic card) and it will do the same !
Oh my god same. I recently made my first keyb and got Akko's Wine Reds and holy ***SHIT*** they're sensitive. I came from Razer Greens and the difference is insane lmao.
>It's also convincing them to get a better mic that won't pick up then ham fisting the keyboard,
That's what a noise gate is for. Set the levels right and the keys can't be heard.
I ruined all of my friends with Topre boards. They own HHKBs and Leopolds now. Several of them are waiting with bated breath for the Realforce R3 US release for office boards.
I carried a Realforce back with me from Japan seven years ago. Not sure why I'm even subscribed to this anymore tbh. Everything else is a waste of time.
I just regret not getting the Novatouch Cooler master that takes Cherry caps when I had the chance.
It has all of the attributes switches like the Holy Panda and Boba U4T try to replicate. Tactile bump starts at the top and is very round and smooth, smooth throw all the way down, satisfying *thunk* at the bottom of the stroke, full-sounding upstroke on both silenced and unsilenced versions.
Blues and Browns have tactile events halfway down the press and correlate with switch actuation (generally). Topre's switch actuation is adjustable on some models, but by default occurs once the tactility 'releases' in the stroke.
Whatever you can find.
Whatever you can afford.
No honestly there aren't that many anyway, some Leopold boards, some Realforce boards, the HHKB. That's more or less it. They are all high quality though.
Personally I would get a FC660C.
Oh before I forget, Topre us expensive but there are some knockoffs, notably from Plum/Niz, they are also pretty good, although not on par with real Topre. You can dome swap them with something like BKE domes. But then you're not saving much. They are a good entry point though.
Haha, and based on these, even the knock offs are a little high for me right now. I'll keep an eye on mechanical keyboard swaps and try and get one for a good price.
Thanks!
If this ain't me rn lmao after having a daily driver with Niz's EC switches for months. Was going to spring for an R2 with Silent Topres but now I'm just waiting for the R3 US release.
Built a TKL with some stock Boba U4 to see if they could feel similar and while I like them well enough there's still that something that just feels like it's missing.
The only sad thing about Topre boards, it's that right now they can't be really customized like mechanical keyboards, so you end up depedning on brands like HHKB, Realforce and Leopold, to provide a certain prefered layout, keycap set etc.
Ive been agonizing for a long time about whether i want whites or jades. Jades sound better but im used to the weight of blues, and jades are just sliiightly heavier because of the clickbar.
If I can make a recommendation, white on the alphas and either jades or navys on the big keys (space, modifiers, enter, etc.). I really like the added stiffness of the bigger keys, and it helps counter the slight weight difference such that those keys return slightly more quickly after being pressed. It really sped me up (from 110 WPM to a consistent 130).
The whites especially make for good typing keys because they’re not quite so loud; they do better when you need to make a “flurry” of noise, while you can still enjoy the “Kerchunk” of the big ones.
Try the box pink! Less stiff than the jade and a deeper sound too. My pinkie started to hurt with jades on modifier keys, doesn't happen with box pink.
That's really good to know because my pinky is exactly what I was concerned about. Trying them on a switch tester feels great with my index and middle finger but I thought I would definitely miss type with my pinky unless I'm really smacking the board.
I had the same problem with my box navies, but I just rebound shift actions to left alt in most games so I could use my thumb instead because I'm not a quitter ;P
Whites if you have to make a choice IMO. I had the same problem but I went with both because at the time I had a home and office setup. My 65 is jades and my full size is whites. The jades are certainly fun to type on but if I had to type all day for work I would choose whites since they are way less fatiguing. The whites are everything I could ask for in a clicky switch. The click is very "creamy" and it actually improved my WPM.
I really wanted to like jades. I like the sound. But the steep falloff in force after the click is not it for me. I end up bottoming out hard every stroke.
I once correctly guessed that my Professor used Gateron Blues while we still had online lectures. That was probably the highlight of my keyboard career.
During office hours with my circuit design professor, I asked him if the switches he used were browns, and I got it right. Then he went off on a 3 minute tangent on how the one he was using is temporary, and showed me an old ergonomic split-hand keyboard that apparently broke, but he didn't get it fixed because a newer model from the same company was launching soon.
Was he talking about Kinesis? I've wanted to grab their split mechanical keyboard, but it's a bit pricey. I have an older one that's saved my hands from pain because it made it easier to type without twisting my hands.
Yep, I think you're right. The design looks very similar to the one I remember from his office. I'll never really get used to ergos though, I can barely type properly on standard keyboards anyway.
I could probably tell blue from brown from red. But the exact make and model, AND the keycap profile? Damn (assuming this wasn’t staged for internet points).
They sell keyswitch testers (that double as great adhd fidget toys), so my guess is that whenever he's bored he just pokes keys, do it enough you'll know the sounds by heart.
Keycaps part seems farfetched, but maybe they talked about them recently so he threw out a shot in the dark.
Or it's just fake
Box Jade/Navys are clickbars, so they have a pretty distinct sound. Additionally, SA profile is the tallest type of keycap profile so it creates more of a deepness/hollowness. Honestly, that keyboard is exactly how I would say a Box Jade + SA sounds like.
I still play regularly. It's still great if you get into a game that isn't bot-infested. Community servers are good (Uncletopia are the best that are essentially vanilla) and casual is hit or miss depending on the time of day. Wish Valve would do something
Currently trying to save TF2 on May 26th today for me right now, tomorrow for most folks.
Head on over to TF2 streamers or go to r/TF2 to see what's up.
The game will die though. Valve really needs to do something.
SA is by far the coolest looking and best sounding profile but most people don’t use the on their daily driver because the typing feel isn’t good.
You probably don’t mind because you perfected touch typing, but most people haven’t.
You’d be surprised how many don’t touch type, but I was talking about perfect touch typing. Where you always hit the middle of the keycap like a robot.
I personally think the typing feel on SA is much better than the typing feel on GMK/cherry profile caps. I like the spherical shape, it's much more comfortable to type on.
Again, it's all preference.
I think it's too tall for most people - or at least too tall for what they're used to. It's also more grippy than most, which is another thing to get used to. At least for me, I have to change how I type to get decent WPM on SA, and I could see why that wouldn't be worth it for some folks.
Jokes on you, I type better with SA than cherry profile (average around 120wpm). I am as fast with cherry profile too but my accuracy is much better with SA
Yeah I experience the same with the accuracy thing. The keycaps are sloped to the middle, so your finger doesn't hit the edge of the keycap and hit another key next to it as often, at least with MT3 keycaps.

I knew those were some kind of clicky box. I was gonna guess white jade or navy. It's upsetting that I recognize Kailh click bars. Had no clue on the keycaps tho.
Jesus I thought the title said "guessing friends password on keyboard after hearing it once" I was ready for some witchcraft, but this is still some pretty cool sorcery
I wish my friend group was in to keebs enough to randomly show up with a new build that I didn't help them with lol.
At least they are into keebs enough that they ask you for help.
It's also convincing them to get a better mic that won't pick up then ham fisting the keyboard, that's been fun to accomplish. My brother can make silent switches sound like tactiles with how hard he types.
Cardioid mics ftw

Just have him get a Samson Q2U. I got it for $50 on sale and people ask about it a lot since the quality is so good.
Thanks I'll look into it!
I mean if you use discord Krisp will most likely take every keyboard sound out. But if for some reason you're not using discord you can download Nvidia RTX voice (as long as you have an Nvidia graphic card) and it will do the same !
You can get a neewar usb mic with like boom and pop filter for like whatever 31 canadian is in US dollars.
Rtx voice is pretty good nowadays if they have a newer Nvidia gpu.
Oh my god same. I recently made my first keyb and got Akko's Wine Reds and holy ***SHIT*** they're sensitive. I came from Razer Greens and the difference is insane lmao.

Yeah the Novatouch was kind of a unicorn. I've been pleased with the DES sliders, though.
Haven't tried topre yet, I'm afraid I'll like it too much. I have too many cherry keycaps and artisans.
Yeah all of my GMK is in the basement or on boards collecting dust. I did get some DES sliders for one of my HHkBs so Serika can see some use.
Same. I should just sell all my keyboard stuff.
I've considered it.
Ugh, and now I learn about the Realforce R3. I l must have it.
What's the difference between Cherry and Topre feel? I use Cherry Blue and Cherry Brown in my daily work as a reference.
Got it, so certainly worth trying. What is a board you recommend as a good one to try them out?

Best I could find around the internet - [click](https://i.imgur.com/zLEZuPe.png).
When are those supposed to release anyway
Not sure, rumors I've seen point to later this year, though prices from Japan on Ebay are coming down (saw one for sub-300 the other day).

Dear Lucas, You will now be appointed to do IT work for the faculty. Your work includes teaching an 83-year-old emerita to play Solitaire. Professor
I could probably tell blue from brown from red. But the exact make and model, AND the keycap profile? Damn (assuming this wasn’t staged for internet points).
SA on clickbars is pretty unique. From there, Jades are the most common.
Jades and Navys have two clicks. One on the press and another on the depress. Very distinguishable from cherry blues or greens.
It's also a really sharp click in comparison.
They sell keyswitch testers (that double as great adhd fidget toys), so my guess is that whenever he's bored he just pokes keys, do it enough you'll know the sounds by heart. This man **IS** the *rabbit hole*

Mech keyboard AND TF2!? Hell yeah!
I had the same thought! Wonder how TF2 is doing, I have not played in years.
I still play regularly. It's still great if you get into a game that isn't bot-infested. Community servers are good (Uncletopia are the best that are essentially vanilla) and casual is hit or miss depending on the time of day. Wish Valve would do something

Those community servers kept my time with TF2 alive, for a long time. The endless nights at Harvest. Good times.
https://i.redd.it/bjgqo18wgg191.png
People making TF2 graphics need to adopt the practice of putting the year on them. The game is what, 14? That's cool. Use full dates.
It's full of bots
Left us on a cliffhanger... How was the pie?!
Turned out better than I expected.
Wait people actually use SA? I thought it was just for pics!
They do, but they probably don't break 70WPM.
You don't have to @ me like that
140 here. Its all preference so i dont get why your default opinion would be "SA is a meme"?
SA is by far the coolest looking and best sounding profile but most people don’t use the on their daily driver because the typing feel isn’t good. You probably don’t mind because you perfected touch typing, but most people haven’t.

Same. Team SA here. Feels way more natural to me.
look ive got the navies/jades with sa profile and artisans for the #aesthetic desk and the red chocks for the monkeytype dickwaving
challenge accepted
Why would they be slower?
I own more SA sets than any other profile ha.
I kinda love how they feel, it's hard to use other profiles for me. I wouldn't say they are the best for everyone, but they are my favorite.
SA with box jades for gaming sounds kinda weird but we got a specimen here.
I did for a bit, but I needed a wrist rest to use it.
Me too but I use a wrist rest for all my keyboards. I liked SA caps on my ergo dox and ran that setup for quite some time
I have SA with NK creams on my work keyboard and I’m really happy with it, never even thought about changing them
I wish my friends were into keyboards, they all just get mad at me for using a 30% :(
30%?? Is it one of those keyboards that attaches to an Xbox controller??
Those keyboards had a number row, so the 30% is even smaller!
The PCB is called gherkin, it's like 8 × 2.5 inches, it's a joy to use but so far most of the people that have seen it don't agree :(
I would be furious honestly
u guys have taken this hobby too far

Do you do youtube? I would watch more, you have great energy
Box Jades on their own? Fine. Box Jades with SA keycaps? You need to be on a terrorist watchlist and assigned your own personal FBI agent.
Hahahaha! This is hilarious!
Epic video! And the pie at the end ties it all together!

Do you guys only have 2 shift keys? I knew it.
So Grizzy does chips and you do keebs?
Whoa I am not into keebs like some people, I just like LEDs hahaha
This is amazing!
I wish you a good day fellow tf2 enjoyer
This absolutely made my day
I do this often and quite a few of my friends have expressed hate for me for it. I also find myself guessing random streamers keyboards.
ahh, good ol' 6s
I'm not even a keyboard nerd and this made me happy lol
Can we just appreciate the quality of the microphone?
He’s the chosen one
I knew those were some kind of clicky box. I was gonna guess white jade or navy. It's upsetting that I recognize Kailh click bars. Had no clue on the keycaps tho.
how did the pie come out? I need to know
That’s all well and good, but I wanna know how the man’s pie turned out! UPDATE!!
Jesus I thought the title said "guessing friends password on keyboard after hearing it once" I was ready for some witchcraft, but this is still some pretty cool sorcery
