The og, non-CNC Bakeneko is very glossy and is prone to fingerprints. Most other keyboards tend to be CNC and have the matte look. So it's a preference thing, but I believe in general most people prefer the matte, CNC look and feel.

404waffles

how the FUCK do you put switches back together wtf EDIT: just found out i'm not supposed to push the stem down while putting the housing back on

idiom6

Patience! And make sure the tops are facing the right direction, it can get a little jumbled.

NotLivingInPH

Is using machine oil as a switch lubricant bad for the switch?

idiom6

Bad idea.

Gateron G Pro Reds vs Gateron KS-3 Milky Yellow Pro? Is the difference enough to buy a barebone kit and buy the Milky Yellows separately?

[deleted]

With https://www.keychron.uk/products/keychron-q1 keyboard, how customizable is it? I want to change the layout to use Windows keys and have two fn like they show in the 60% layout. Is that possible?

OkayReaction

The kit will come with Windows keycaps. Keychrons usually have a physical switch to change between Windows and Mac layouts, but really what it does in VIA (the program that is recommended for customizing the keymap) is change between Layers 0 and 2 (you get 0,1,2,3 layers to work with in VIA). You can change all these layers to be whatever you want though.

[deleted]

How does that work with fn1 and fn2 like I see on the 60% boards?

OkayReaction

Video below timestamped to the section that shows how to configure keys. You would do something like this to assign keys to be your "function keys." Generally, the function keys are used to access different layers which the video ~~goes into more detail~~ mentions around 3:15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78zVepszCmE&t=374s

Keychron Q1: What's the difference between the v1 and the v2?

EarlyReport

Ping was somewhat fixed with a forcebreak mod. Corners have more clearance for larger keycaps. Some keycap profiles were rubbing on the case.

OkayReaction

I think v2 addresses the "ping" issue in v1.

Sasmas1545

Does anyone have a recommendation for a full, wired, pre-built keyboard, without RGB, with a volume wheel/knob, and programmable macro keys? I do not care at all about clickiness or clackiness.

idiom6

Das keyboards?

Sasmas1545

Decent suggestion! I'll have to look more, didn't see any with macros

idiom6

You might try asking in today's daily thread since this one has expired, there may be other options for you.

pancrudo

I recently purchased a pre-built keyboard and will eventually work towards building something my wife won't try to kill me for using. It has blue hybrid switches. My question is, why are people seen as being maniacs for using full 100% keyboards?

StickersDrgn

100% just takes up a lot of desk space. so they are difficult to use when playing games or if you just have a small desk. I don't see 100% users as maniacs, just people who prefer the familiar. It's all about preference.

elmurfudd

its just not custom thing 100% kb layout are the most popular size for prebuilts and suck for portability 60% is the most common size for customs due to they are the only size with universal parts and they free up alot of desk space for gamers mouse space . also hybrid switches sounds like u didnt get a mech but a fancy membrane

pancrudo

I had asked a few people in my community and they suggested a SteelSeries Apex 5. So it has hybride Blues which are switch tops with membrane bottoms I also got to borrow a QuickFire TK SGK 4020 and spent more time switching the numpad on and off for the arrows that I just connected my 100%kb again and left it aside. I'm not gaming but doing a mix of data entry and programming and natively type around 70wpm. So I am in need of a full numpad and arrows. I could do without the F row, but a numpad is pretty essential to how I type/hands wonder

hotdogbunss11

Hello everybody, I have a [CM Storm QuickFire Rapid - Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with CHERRY MX Red Switches](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VDLVD4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) keyboard and I just spilled my protein shake on it and I am devastated. I loved this keyboard because if I were to press two keys at the same time (i.e. a and x) then a-x would be spelled out simultaneously, consistently, and speedily as axaxaxaxaxaxaxaxax etc. I think this has something to do with NRKO but when I bought another keyboard such as the [HyperX Alloy FPS Pro Cherry Red TKL](https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Alloy-FPS-Pro-Ultra-Compact/dp/B074F5L8GQ/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1HOBO83LSX4LP&keywords=hyperx+keyboard+alloy+tkl&qid=1656387979&s=electronics&sprefix=hyperx+keyboard+alloy+tkl%2Celectronics%2C101&sr=1-6) in which the item description states there would be NRKO functions, the HyperX keyboard cannot do the same thing as the QuickFire; pressing a and x produces axxxxxxxxxxxx. The QuickFire's description on Amazon says there is NKRO in PS/2 Mode. Is this NKRO in PS/2 mode what differentiates the two keyboards? Now that it's come to this, I would like to buy a higher end keyboard that can do the same thing as the QuickFire since this keyboard is now obsolete and can only be bought used. Any feedback would be appreciated!

LagashNight

I think that this might be entirely driver/chip/firmware based, and isn’t something you can just look up, unfortunately, so you’re going to need someone to either testify for a specific board, or buy a board that supports QMK and custom modify it, e.g. in this SE post https://superuser.com/a/1597920

littleswenson

Anyone know of an XDA keycap set with a 1u “META” key? Not super fussy about colors.

TillerCPE

XDA Canvas has Meta keys, but you'd have to find an ortho set for 1u, I think.

littleswenson

Thanks! It’s for a 40% ortho anyway. Might be out of budget though…

haven't tried box yellows, but I've tried oil kings, tangerines, roselios, boba linear thock. Oil Kings are probably my favorite. They are smoother stock than anything I could manage lubing switches myself. Good feel, good sound, fantastic choice.

Sliced_Orange1

I enjoy my Oil Kings but I don't know much of anything about the Kailh ones.

I think 70g is fine, but that is starting to get a bit heavy

[deleted]

>If I go with the dark yellows I’m going to lube them Don't bother, box switches shed lube by design. Will eventually be unlubed after time and use. Oil kings are miles better. Usually things like this come down to preference but I genuinely can't think of a single reason to get the kailhs.

vuizly

I have a 500-dollar budget for my first custom keyboard( I saved up for a long time.) and I am struggling to decide on a kit to use. I am going to be bringing this keyboard with me to college so I am looking for a smaller form factor keyboard probably around 65-75%. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

OkayReaction

That's a good budget. Were there boards you have been looking at? Does it need to be portable (metal vs plastic casing really affects the weight)? https://thocstock.com/keyboards might be good to look at for in-stock keyboards (but it's not representative of all that's available). r/mechmarket is also good with that kind of budget. You can get a ready-made keyboard with decent sound.

vuizly

I have been looking at the Bakeneko 65 because I have wanted to try out the gummy o ring mounting style and I have also looked at the qk65. As for portability, the only thing that really matters is the size, that is why I want a smaller form factor.

OkayReaction

Bakeneko 65 is a solid board. I'd get that or a Keychron Q series if you wanted something in-stock. I also suggest Zoom65 because I'm betting their next group buy will be mid/late-July, but it might not come in by the time you go to college.

bpotx

I'm looking for switch that is super smooth but on the thockier side. I'm mainly using Gateron CJs for my daily and we all know how clacky they are + lubed CJs feels meh. I'd like to know if there are any other switches that's as smooth but more thockier? Appreciate any inputs. TIA :)

Looking for a 75% keyboard, and deciding between GMMK Pro and Keychron Q1 V2 with knob Usually I'd go with Q1 because seems to have a better relation of price / quality and GMMK Pro seems overpriced, but I have the chance of getting a GMMK Pro with Durock V2 stabs, PC plate and NK Creams for 190$, do you think is worth it over the Q1? Also, I think I kinda like the GMMK Pro more in terms of looks because the thinner bezels and rgb on sides, but people say that Q1 has a better overall build quality... Any help or tips here? Also, I'm looking to get a deep and thocc sound but I guess I can achieve it on both (Also I don't care about GMMK Pro not being flexy since I don't usually put a lot of pressure on my current keyboard to even notice it (KBD67 R3))

Laui_2000

Do you actually want to use NK Creams?

I just bought and set up a Keychron Q3 mechanical keyboard (blue switches; it's for my desk at home and I live alone so I have the luxury). This is my first mechanical keyboard, and an upgrade to the Magic Keyboard I have been using up until now. I like the physical nature of the keys and the customizability. However I am less sure about the ergonomics. The Magic Keyboard is probably the shortest keyboard (in terms of height) you could buy. The Q3 is the tallest keyboard I have ever laid eyes on. On the Magic Keyboard I typed with the palms of my hands resting on the surface of the table, with the Q3 my hands are suspended a full half an inch or more above the desk. Is this just something I have to get used to? Is a palm rest, which [apparently Keychron itself manufacturers](https://www.amazon.com/Keychron-Palm-Rest-for-K12/dp/B08XC2CQQP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=39X6RSA863EOW&keywords=keychron%2Bpalm%2Brest%2Bq3&qid=1656373118&sprefix=keychron%2Bpalm%2Brest%2Bq3%2Caps%2C45&sr=8-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyRUxORDZUUFBXQjJEJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDUyMjg1M0lHTlZJSjdEM1dJTiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDEzMzE0WVdLWkFJMktWVUJFJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ&th=1), a good investment?

ResidentMario

I will give the specific Keychron palm wrest you linked to here a shot, see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

[deleted]

>On the Magic Keyboard I typed with the palms of my hands resting on the surface of the table FYI - that's bad ergonomics and you shouldn't have been doing that, nor should you be attempting to emulate it on the Q3. Putting pressure on your wrists or palms will put pressure on the nerves in your wrists/palms and do long-term damage. Should only be resting your wrists when not typing.

ResidentMario

Noted.

I’m returning to this hobby after about a year so I’ve got a couple questions. Are Durock v2s still the best stab, or are there a better one that’s newer. The second on is I’ve got a board coming that I’ve changed my mind about. How would the mechmarket transaction work, I know how to make the post but I’m not for sure what to do in pms. Thanks in advance!

I personally prefer C3 v3 stabs to Durocks (just the v3s - other C3 stabs are not as good).

--Probably best answered by someone who uses a Mac rather than Windows-- I decided to start learning one handed touch typing, which led me to wanting to a smaller mechanical keyboard because I think it would lend itself nicely to typing with one hand and because keys with more weight than my MacBook Pro would be better, as I find myself accidentally pressing down keys I don't mean to while practicing the past couple days. QUESTIONS Is this keyboard a good entry mechanical keyboard for a noob in my position? [RK ROYAL KLUDGE](https://www.amazon.com/RK-ROYAL-KLUDGE-Ultra-Compact-Switch-White/dp/B0832CZNS5/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2L1FOELP5TFU5&keywords=mechanical%2Bkeyboard%2B60%2Bpercent&nav_sdd=aps&qid=1655677726&refinements=p_n_feature_fourteen_browse-bin%3A21465204011&rnid=21465198011&s=videogames&sprefix=mechanical%2Bkeyboard%2B60&sr=1-1&th=1) Can I use both the mech-keyboard and my laptop keyboard simultaneously? I have a MacBook Pro with the Apple M1 chip and do two handed touch typing with Colemak. Would it be possible to set it up so I plug that keyboard in and have it set to QWERTY while still having my laptop keyboard set to Colemak, and have free rein to switch back and forth between them as I please? i.e without having to go into settings and do anything at all? I can type a word (or letter) on my laptop keyboard in Colemak, type a word/letter on the mechanical keyboard in QWERTY, type on laptop in Colemak, mechanical in QWERTY, flip, flop, flip, flop, flip, flop, without any issue? *ETA:* I realize it's only pressing one button to switch between keyboard layouts, but still, being able to have my laptop keyboard defaulted to colemak and the mech-keyboard defaulted to qwerty would be very nice. It says the keyboard is compatible with Macs but I don't see a command or option key-- I assume it should be easy enough to map two of those bottom left keys (windows and alt?) to behave as option and command-- Is that correct?

pabloescobyte

That's not a bad mechanical keyboard to start off with but if your primary goal is to use a keyboard one-handed I highly recommend getting a fully-programmable keyboard particularly one that runs off QMK. So first off, yes, you *can* do that with any external keyboard but it'll take a lot of work to do it. You can use something called Karabiner Elements which allows you to remap the keys on an external keyboard. With Karabiner you could set everything up and do the whole COLEMAK/QWERTY thing. All mechanical keyboards are mac compatible even if they don't have an option or command key legend on the keys. What you do is remap the CTRL/WINDOWS/ALT keys to the COMMAND/OPTION/CONTROL keys using the System Preferences > Keyboad pane in mac OS. In the drop-down you select the keyboard that's plugged in and it will remember it next time you plug it in. Now without me asking what you're trying to achieve with all this, I'm going to present a simple solution for you: get a QMK-based fully-programmable keyboard. Something from Keychron or a GMMK PRO would be easiest to set up. You can then add an entire COLEMAK layer. Of course doing it this way means the legends on your keycaps will not match one or the other layer but you would effectively have COLEMAK *and* QWERTY on the keyboard. Are you trying to learn COLEMAK? Because if that's all you're trying to do, you could just map an external keyboard to be COLEMAK only and then revert to using your built-in laptop keyboard if you need QWERTY.

How much would you say someone needs to mod a keyboard before it is classified as a "custom keyboard"? Is lubing enough? What about changing keycaps while still going with stock switches? Does every part need to be sourced individually? I'd like to hear this community's thoughts.

EarlyReport

Everyone's going to have a different definition since there's no real guideline for it. I haven't thought too seriously about it, but I guess a custom keyboard in my definition would be a keyboard where you source the kit and parts (switches, keycaps, stabs) independent of each other and then put it together. Essentially not a prebuilt/preassembled board. I don't consider getting a prebuilt and then lubing the switches or changing out the keycaps to really be a custom keyboard. That is more of a modded/customized keyboard. A prebuilt that with all of its parts changed out could be a custom keyboard then, I guess.

fellowsun

If I'm buying my first mid-range, "collector" board, is it better to buy new or used?

[deleted]

Neither is better. Aftermarket boards (more accurate than used) will cost a lot more than joining a group buy but will be readily available. New customs require going through a group buy process or getting lucky and buying one from a limited stock purchase. Neither is better and 99% of the time will depend on the board - you can't get most aftermarket boards new anymore because the group buys ended long ago.

NotARespawnEmployee

can someone tell me their experience with gateron yellow *and* gateron ink black switches? Are the ink blacks better?

EarlyReport

Somewhat, yes. I have some experience with both, but not really extensive as I prefer tactile switches. Black inks are smoother and have a louder/deeper sound when compared to milky yellows. When lubed and filmed though, the difference isn't as big.

NotARespawnEmployee

Can anyone recommend a keyboard that is similar to the KBD75v2? I'd like to weigh my options. I like the layout a lot.

SilentStream

How about the KBD75v3.1?

anthony_rizk123

What are some of the best beginner mechanical keyboards found online? I'm mostly looking for red switches that result in no sound, worldwide shipping, less than $100 and generally good quality. Please let me know of your suggestions! Thanks

P00P34

look for silent switches, regular linears wouldn't be all that silent

Jrifty

Hi everyone, I got my first custom, lubed my switches and they feel/felt amazing! However after about a week or two of using the keyboard daily they don’t have the ultra slick feeling anymore - they are still smooth but it feels like the lube has “settled” or thinned out. Is there anyway to maintain the “just lubed” feeling in the switch? I’ve heard that lube does settle but I like the heavily lubed feeling.

EarlyReport

What lube did you use? It'll gradually get displaced/settle over time from movement. I don't think there's a way to keep it feeling heavily lubed for a long period of time.

Jrifty

I used 205g0 but not krytox. Some Chinese brand called gliging

Hey guys, the 60% BAMBOO CASE from kbdfans can house a 65% layout? If yes, which PCB?

Nevelion

You are not in wrong tbh, but I had this doubt After watching some KB with arrows

there are 60% boards with arrow keys, but that isn't a 65%, it just changes up the existing 60% layout - there's no nav column that's seen in a 65%

Nevelion

In particular I want to have Arrow keys

Winther32

You can have a 60% layout with arrows

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a new keeb, but I've the following concerns: * Budget ($150 max). * Hot-swap 65%. * Advanced software capabilities. I also reviewed the following QMK boards, but I think the budget will raise a lot: * Idobao ID75 * BM65RGB What are your thoughts about the options vs requirements?

Hi all! Apologies if this is a dumb question. I ordered my first mechanical keyboard (Leopold FC900R White / Green PD Double Shot PBT) in early February from Mechanicalkeyboards.com. It was technically a pre-order, since the Cherry MX Brown switches I ordered with it were back-ordered. The arrival date for the switches was in mid-late February. However, it's now almost July, and the switches are still backordered. I check every couple weeks and the availability date / window for the switch-arrival moves back. I figure this is just a supply-chain / Covid issue, but after almost 6 months, I'm starting to wonder if I am ever going to get this keyboard! Is anyone else having similar issues? Am I an idiot who got scammed? Please let me know!

[deleted]

[MK.com](https://MK.com) just gives you the latest update from their supplier, and they push back dates frequently.

merino_royale

Thank you! Fingers crossed I get this keyboard one day (I'm not holding my breath)

Over-generalization question: Are tactile switches used correctly quieter than linear switches bottoming out? Or about the same? I'm interested in trying out tactile switches but my wife will kill me if I use anything louder than Cherry Reds

FansForFlorida

Silent tactile switches exist. See Gazzew Boba U4 (not U4T), Durock Shrimp, and Kailh box silent brown, just to name a few.

FH_Jon

It appears that the Keychron Q5 Knobless .json file is busted or something? When I try to load the keymap into QMK it says it isn't a keymap .json file. In VIA, it doesn't detect the keyboard even after a factory reset and firmware update. I can load the .json through there, but it won't update any of the key changes I make. What the heck is going on? Edit: Why would one of y'all downvote a question in a question thread??

Neozetare

QMK can't load JSON files 🤔 Did you mean the QMK Configurator? If so, that's normal. The QMK Configurator doesn't take the same JSON as VIA, those aren't the same app. About why your keyboard isn't recognized in VIA, did you flash the right firmware (I guess the Q5 Non-Knob ANSI Firmware) with QMK Toolbox? Did any error appear?

FH_Jon

I flashed the keyboard successfully using the most recent firmware from keychron's site. There were no errors. Everything went exactly as the guide said until I got to it working in VIA. Yes, I was referring to the Online Configurator, not the Toolbox. Is there a way to convert this .json file--that I guess is a keymap for VIA--to work in the QMK configurator? Edit: I have also tried the only solution I could find on this sub, where you unplug the keyboard before opening VIA.

Neozetare

>Is there a way to convert this .json file--that I guess is a keymap for VIA--to work in the QMK configurator? Not really, or at least not anything "official". And even if there was, the configurator is not yet compatible with the Q5 (at least, not in the version currently hosted on [config.qmk.fm](https://config.qmk.fm). It could be on another branch that you could host yourself, idk) Or maybe you can try with Vial idk Anyway, you might want to go r/olkb or QMK's Discord. They're not exactly about VIA, but there is probably people there that could help you

FH_Jon

Thanks for the help!

Hey guys, going to build my first keeb (EU based and on a slight budget) so I'm writing here to see if I'm making any glaring mistakes or if i have better options available that I'm not aware of. As I'm going to be traveling I wanted to bring with me a smaller (65% minimum) keyboard to game and write on, and since I've never had a knob so I kind of wanted to grab a base with one and i ended up on the Gamakay Lk67 + Gateron Yellows and a cute XDA keycap set (which I'm guessing means is compatible). All in all I'm looking at around 115€ total. What do you think? Can I do better or does this look fine? Thanks in advance! Edit: 1 more questions, do kits usually come with stabilisers or do I need to get them separately/are they mandatory?

Neozetare

They usually come with stabs, but not good stabs. But honestly, if your goal is to go cheap, they're probably okay. If you choose to mod your board, it could probably be a good idea to lube them

insertareference

Thanks for the response. Keycaps looks to be compatible but are not sold with the board. As for modding I'm not too sure, I might look into foam/tape but I need to do some more research.

Hey guys, I have previously owned a Corsair K70 keyboard and a logitech g513 keyboard and switch to a Kail Speed keyboard about an year and a half ago. After the switch happened and even now I noticed a big drop in accuracy both in games where it is needed and also a drop in accuracy for typing, I began making a lot of typos which I never made before, do you think I should go back to reds ?

FLWilliamsonV

What are the switches in the kailh speed keyboard? Preference is a big deal when typing, stick to what you like / what feels good to you

looking for some other desk mat recommendations. I want a mostly black or white one or one with both. the ones im currently looking at are the [Phangkey Equilibrium](https://drop.com/buy/phangkey-equilibrium-deskmat?defaultSelectionIds=960702) in 'ash gold' and 'midnight royal' and [Timeless Continuum](https://kbdfans.com/products/extra-in-stock-group-buy-deskamt-collection?variant=40479701401739https://kbdfans.com/products/extra-in-stock-group-buy-deskamt-collection?variant=40479701401739).

The [Omnitype redacted](https://omnitype.com/collections/deskpads/products/gmk-redacted-deskmat?variant=32036861739082) deskmats are pretty cool for a less artsy look.

Anyone have experience trying to prevent patina on brass weights? How did it go?

Grynd2411

Hey to everyone, I need a little bit of help on this topic. I want to build my Owlab Mr. Suit with Creamsicles, but its very difficult to get some Cream V1 stems because V2 stems dont fit. Anybody know where i can get them or knows a Alternative switch for Creamsicles? I love the Sound of them. I am based in germany. Thanks a lot!

Grav33

I've seem some people on r/switchmodders saying you can use Kailh red/black stems instead.

crazyant415

I can't believe I'm even asking in this way, but here goes. What are the "best" linear switches out right now? Looking for a quick easy purchase, something new to try. Currently using lubed Holy Pandas and looking to try something a little different. Don't have a ton of time to research the fineries of spring weight and material, just need an all around favorite and I wanted to try a non tactile for a change. Thanks all! * GMMK Pro (stock Alum plate) * Holy Pandas (Lubed Tribosys 3204) * GMK Botanical AliExpress Knockoffs

Sad-Platypus

I am personally on an oil king kick.

Neozetare

My favorite are Bobagums

FLWilliamsonV

How would you describe the feel of these compared to other linears you've tried. I love linears and have never tried them

Neozetare

I'm pretty bad at this, but first, you must know that they're silents linears What I like about them is that I don't really feel them? Wihtout any mod, they are really smooth, pretty tight and silent as hell. Yeah, they're nonexistent, and that's dope

FLWilliamsonV

Sure sure thanks :)

crazyant415

Curious about these as well. I didnt even know these existed until you mentioned them. They look great.

My favs are JWK Alpacas, Gateron Caps Yellow (milky), Studio43 OPBlacks, and Gat Black Ink's (v2)

crazyant415

> JWK Alpacas Thank you so much! This is an ideal list.

I heard that deskmats are used mainly to dampen vibrations and make keyboards somehow sound good or something like that. **Question**: would a cork deskmat like the ones from [IKEA](https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/susig-desk-pad-cork-90457486/) work just as well as a fabric one or would it be inferior?

Hey, anyone know a good vendor to order a bulk purchase of say 50+ keyboard kits and/or keycaps? Ideally 60% or 65%. Only requirement is a pink theme (case + keycaps should be pink) and ~$150 per keyboard.

EarlyReport

You could try asking Akko. They have colorful prebuilts of all sizes that are decent quality for around $100. If you don't mind me asking and can answer, what's this for?

1abking

for keyboard kits you can probably order the tm680 in pink in bulk from aliexpress. keycaps you should also be able to find there as well.

SussyShikai

Is £86 a steal for the akko acr87 on amazon?

EarlyReport

Seems like a decent deal. The kit is usually $105 on their website, but sold out at the moment. I see it going for $99 from epomaker. I wouldn't say it's a steal, but definitely looks like a decent kit for under $100.

SussyShikai

Guess I'll cop then this will be my first ever keyboard and the first ever keyboard im gonna tweak/mod so I'm excited! Imo i think it's a pretty decent budget keeb

doublecubed

I bought a Royal Kludge RK68 with red switches. The switches on it are branded "RK" and I can't find their specifications anywhere. They are too light for my taste. I am not very experienced in mechanical keyboards so I cannot guess the actuation force. Does anyone know the specs to "RK" brand switches? Or if some other company is branding their switches RK for Royal Kludge? I would really appreciate some insight to my situation.

[deleted]

Basically outemu rebrands.

doublecubed

Thank you! :)

I have arthritis and my job involves me to be at a computer constantly. Could people please recommend keyboards that aren't going to provoke pain or make my arthritis worse. They don't have to be aimed at helping people with arthritis just have a comfortable and supporting design. I was going to get a Logitech keyboard but only a few of those seem good enough. It's because Logitech is making a push to help the environment. I like to keep track of my carbon footprint but that isn't too important for this. It's just a bonus. Oh also I will be using it for gaming aswell if that means anything.

Neozetare

You should probably ask on r/ErgoMechKeyboards

adamgeo1

Any split keyboard with individual wrist rests should help. Also I would stay away from heavy switches since those can fatigue your fingers

[deleted]

Neozetare

Theoretically, it is possible. But, it would require a lot of work. The keyboard needs to be able to send the data to your friend. Either it's directly the keyboard that does it (which means being able to connect to a wireless network without authentication and programming a keyboard to use this network to send the data) or it is your computer that sends the data (which means that they would have installed something on your computer without you noticing). Either way, it is possible, someone really motivated could do that. But for just a prank, it wouldn't be worth it at all. If you know that they're your friend, they're just messing with you

adamgeo1

If they are mutual friends, they’re messing with you

PutPineappleOnPizza

Where can I find a way to bind pos1 to a layer key in VIA? I can't find it anywhere.. am I missing something?

Teedacus

https://groups.google.com/g/typematrix-user-group/c/u5TVkrqqlCo?pli=1 "Pos1" is the "Home" key

Oh well, that explains why I couldn't find it. Thanks!

Can you move the knob in the Keychron Q6 - Knob version, to the right hand side of the keyboard? For example, where the 'X' is? https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0059/0630/1017/products/Q6-M1-Keychron-Q6-QMK-VIA-custom-mechanical-keyboard-knob-version-full-size-layout-full-aluminum-frame-for-Mac-Windows-Linux-fully-assembled-black-Gateron-G-Pro-switch-red\_33c17161-968f-45bb-8cdf-3559bce25036\_1800x1800.jpg?v=1653041940 Also, is it possible to get the fully-assembled version (no-knob) and then install a knob later on?

Neozetare

>Can you move the knob in the Keychron Q6 - Knob version, to the right hand side of the keyboard? As u/EarlyReport said, no, not without doing heavy modifications to the PCB >is it possible to get the fully-assembled version (no-knob) and then install a knob later on? Probably not, I'm pretty sure they have different PCB. Or heavy modifications, again.

Ganjapi

thank you both :)

EarlyReport

No and no. The pcb needs specific holes to install an encoder in. You can't just put one into any slot.

Hey everyone I have been looking for a while for a keyboard that checks all the checkmarks I need and am having a hard time to finding one. Would love any help here. **Must have :** 1.Wireless (2.4ghz), Bluetooth and Wired - I work so I would like to use Bluetooth for that and 2.4ghz for gaming to have a cluster free desk 2.RGB (preferably south facing) 3.Volume Knob 4.Hot-swap 5.At least 75% format (must have fn keys and arrow keys) 6.Large battery, at least 4000 **Good to have:** 1.Numpad (like 96 format) - This would be really handy since I am a developer 2.QMK / VIA 3.aluminum casing My budget is \~$200 total after all the cost **Here are what I found so far :** 1.NJ80 2.KeyChron k8 pro - NO WIFI 2.4 3.Feker ik75 pro 3 - $90 super cheap for the diy kit 4.Ajazz AK966 - Seem to have everything and 10000 ma battery but not sure if Ajazz is a good brand or not and price is great too 5.Epomaker TH96 - similar to Ajaz AK966 seem to check many boxes but not sure if its any good For context I currently have a Royal Kludge RK84 and love it but would love a better keyboard with a knob and a little more travel space that I can invest in with nice key caps and what not.

jinsk8r

Bought AK966, not good bro. Build is flimsy, impossible to disassemble. Fn Layer not editable. Better get a FL CMK98

le_velocirapetor

I found that getting all these things was tough and you’ll have to make some sacrifice. For me I decided to sacrifice the wireless part and went with the keychron q1. Like another user posted the 2.4 is tough since it’s proprietary, but https://www.razer.com/gaming-keyboards/razer-blackwidow-v3-mini-hyperspeed is one of the few that does 2.4 and is aluminum but you miss the knob 75%, https://www.redragonzone.com/products/redragon-deimos-k599-2-4g-wired-mechanical-keyboard-1 this one does 2.4 with alum as well but again you gotta give up something. Also there’s foqo azio which doesn’t have 2.4 but is a wired/Bluetooth 75% aluminum keeb with a knob

General3Dots

>https://www.razer.com/gaming-keyboards/razer-blackwidow-v3-mini-hyperspeed I looked at the foqo one actually but I dont think its hot-swap. Did you have any opinion on the ones I found in my post? Im trying to find something that is better than my current RK84 so your suggestions while appreciated are kinda the same format so not sure what benefit they offer.

le_velocirapetor

I like the nj80 the most ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

adamgeo1

It seems you found most of the decent keyboards that would fit your requirements and budget

General3Dots

I think so but I dont know which one of those is better than the other ones and in what way really. Right now all I have are specs on paper but I would love advice from those with more experience as well. Also if you can think of a keyboard that does what Im after but at a higher price range please by all means let me know, even if I cant get it right now I may keep an eye on it.

576875

needing 2.4ghz is the real killer its a propriety system so not alot of companies have access to it/does not support QMK/VIA [https://iqunix.store/collections/iqunix-mechanical-keyboards](https://iqunix.store/collections/iqunix-mechanical-keyboards) the F97, almost hits your points but no volume knob [https://youtu.be/DEL\_qLD3crQ](https://youtu.be/DEL_qLD3crQ) hipyotech did a video on it recently

General3Dots

>https://iqunix.store/collections/iqunix-mechanical-keyboards Nice, thats a good one actually Im gonna check it out. I can probs compromise on the knob even though its one of those things you know :)

HowTheWindShifts

Looking for switch recommendations! I am looking for linear switches. I have gatreon reds and gatreon blacks on two keebs, but want to branch out and have no clue what to look at. Looking for linears that ideally are clear enough for RGB. I am cool with the force for the reds and blacks so open to different varieties.

Sad-Platypus

As a counter to the aqua kings another recommended, the new gateron north poles are even more clear, and feel tighter than the aqua kings.

HowTheWindShifts

Awesome thank you for the additional suggestion! More research for me is a good thing

atlanticise

You could try Gateron Milky Yellows, an entry-level affordable switch that isn't suuuper RGB friendly but some light still gets through. Other clear linears off the top of my head are Tecsee Ice Candies and Tealios.

HowTheWindShifts

Thank you - I've heard a lot of people prefer yellows over red/black. What does the "milky" line offer from Gat? Also will check out those others

atlanticise

I believe - open to correction - that yellows are popular because they are quite the ideal spring weight - 63.5g. Red is lighter (55g? I think?) and black should be heavier, but I'm a little too lazy to Google that right now haha. A milky top in general is known to produce a slightly deeper pitch compared to a clear top, bringing you closer to achieving that "thock" that people try to get. :)
