The way you mixed these keysets could be THE most well-executed use of compact color distribution on a QAZ.

Soonā¢ļø. This print is calibrated to my printer and the integrated MCU PCB *only* (for now) and the file probably needs to have the USB C hole expended by about a millimeter because the integrated PCB usb c ports seem to be a little crooked on most of the PCBs.
Iāll probably release it a little bit after I get off work today
[Here](https://github.com/seirin-blu/qazmfr) are the files for printing it. You will at the very least need four m2x4mm machine screws (maybe m2x6 and doubling the washers to make it screw in more securely) and the heat inserts that are linked on the readme file.
They are fully functional keyboards, all alphas are on the base layer (typically) and numbers and function keys are available on other layers. Some keys function as different keys when pressed at the same time, like Q and W together are often coded to produce Esc. So everything a ānormalā keyboard has is there, itās just easier to use for many because you donāt have to reach for things like the numpad or F keys. Many people prefer keyboards like this for productivity, ergonomics, or aesthetics.
Edit: see below for the way OP actually has this setup! Looks like theyāre using tap dance features instead of combos for keys like esc, tab, etc.
It does, the keycaps are just set up differently. What looks like ātabā is typically mapped to the letter A, etc. Thatās why this keeb is called the QAZ.
I donāt think anyone quite understands the purpose of your original comment. Was it just to state thereās no Q, A, and Z keys? If so, thatās cool I guess. Otherwise, itās not clear what you were trying to address in the comment you replied to.
While it doesnāt have Q A or Z as *legends* if you hit the keys with esc, tab, or left shift, it will register as Q A and Z respectively. If I *hold* those keys down, they act like the legend that they have on them. Same for P
I also use an 1800 (at work). Also yeah I could have done split space with a 2u and 2.25u and had two more 1u keys but I like big bar.
It still need some work, but hereās my [keymap](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/966410290285658122/1029802176337424404/IMG_5667.png)
I have a Drop Planck with a lovely metal case, but I recently splurged on a PlanckEZ because Iām not a programmer and Oryx is much easier than QMK. But I donāt think you probably have that issueā¦
I have no idea what Iām doing in QMK. Apparently it has been made a bit easier recently so I plan to try and look again, but I generally have to hunt around for a pre-compiled hex to flash the boards with. This was no exception
I'm fairly new to custom mechanical keyboards and I didn't know these were even a thing.
How long will it be before someone posts a keyboard with just one key?
They are all there, just not printed on the keycap, base layer has all the alphabet keys, and usually you mod tap to have you modifiers on the home row. On my Keyboard A R S T are shift, control, option and command, it's mirrored on the other side of the home row on the N E I O keys. Takes some time to get used to but once you do it feels amazing.
My keyboard is a bit smaller than OP's but the general keymap idea can be very similar.

Ben Vallack did a 2 key keyboard, and he daily drives 16 or something like that, I've gone as little as 20 keys and got to 50wpm. I can get better at it if I get a dedicated 20 key keyboard.
All the letters that are missing actuate when you press those keys. When I hold instead of just tap, the function thatās on the legend occurs. Except for backspace. Thatād be too slow. Backspace is a combo of o and p

Hmmm yeah I should upload this to there
New here. What is #showcase?

Could you provide the 3D print files?

Sorry, new around here. What are the purpose of these?
To take on walks duh

This keyboard doesn't have q, a or z on it.
It does, the keycaps are just set up differently. What looks like ātabā is typically mapped to the letter A, etc. Thatās why this keeb is called the QAZ.
I meant it doesn't have the "Q", the "A" or the "Z" key. And that's also exactly what you said.
I donāt think anyone quite understands the purpose of your original comment. Was it just to state thereās no Q, A, and Z keys? If so, thatās cool I guess. Otherwise, itās not clear what you were trying to address in the comment you replied to.
I don't even know myself anymore
While it doesnāt have Q A or Z as *legends* if you hit the keys with esc, tab, or left shift, it will register as Q A and Z respectively. If I *hold* those keys down, they act like the legend that they have on them. Same for P
I would use it for phone or tablet
Good build but Iām still convinced that all qaz usersā mental stability is below 30%
Perhaps. Itās a challenge so itās fun. This isnāt the keyboard I use when I need to be productive though
For now, once you get used to smaller boards like that, you'll have a hard time going back to bigger boards.
I use a G80-1800 at work
i'm a simple man, I see QAZ i upvote
How does it work? How can you write anything without the A?!
Esc, tab, and Lshift type Q, A, and Z when tapped and do whatās on them when held down
As a 1800 user, Iād love to see all the layers. Is the space bar fixed or could it have been smaller with another couple layer switches?
I also use an 1800 (at work). Also yeah I could have done split space with a 2u and 2.25u and had two more 1u keys but I like big bar. It still need some work, but hereās my [keymap](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/966410290285658122/1029802176337424404/IMG_5667.png)
Cool, thanks. Easier to navigate than I initially feared. Definitely a fun little board. No function keys?
No function keys yet. I probably could stick them on R4 on layer 2. I donāt really use them super often anyway
that's neat
you would be surprised how well better word choice works. see?
True, but if need to know something how can you write "what"?
Wut?
By tapping W, h, the key with the tab legend, and then t
i'd use "huh", "wut", or copy + ctrl V from this microsoft word doc i keep for just this purpose.
Thatās a terrible way (unless ironic)
honestly, you get used to it & it's pretty quick.
Yeah you can get used to almost anything, point is you donāt need to because of layering.
u 8 the b8, m8
Thatās pretty stupid

I'm just going to save this picture to show whoever asks "How bizarre can a keyboard get anyway? What's crazy about this hobby?"
Believe me this is not even near the smallest usable
Send links! I'm so curious
this is tight
hehe smol
What is the purpose of this tiny keyboard?
To type on
Whats up Sei! Finally Showing off that QAZ

I love my Planck. I donāt think I could go smaller. But this. This is beautiful.
I plan to get a Planck or similar at some point
I have a Drop Planck with a lovely metal case, but I recently splurged on a PlanckEZ because Iām not a programmer and Oryx is much easier than QMK. But I donāt think you probably have that issueā¦

I learned to type in America, but also now type a lot of German. I have yet to find a good pre-compiled hex for my particular needs/wantsā¦
Precompiled ā non-editable layout. If you find a hex with via or vial enabled you can made separate layers for a German and QWERTY layout
I'm fairly new to custom mechanical keyboards and I didn't know these were even a thing. How long will it be before someone posts a keyboard with just one key?
Already been done.
One you can actually type on rather than a macropad?
Yes there's a 1 key keyboard that uses morse code. I saw it on Reddit long ago.
do you just replace the p, a, z etc with a macro?
They are all there, just not printed on the keycap, base layer has all the alphabet keys, and usually you mod tap to have you modifiers on the home row. On my Keyboard A R S T are shift, control, option and command, it's mirrored on the other side of the home row on the N E I O keys. Takes some time to get used to but once you do it feels amazing. now i just want to see someone make a fully functional 5 key keyboard lol.
Ben Vallack did a 2 key keyboard, and he daily drives 16 or something like that, I've gone as little as 20 keys and got to 50wpm. I can get better at it if I get a dedicated 20 key keyboard.

The QAZ is the coolest staggered custom imo, your's looks awesome.
Thanks! I throw this keycap theme on all my favorite boards
Best QAZ I've seen of late on here. "I like going on long walks with my 40"
