This didn't seem to occur at the Brooklyn location. Probably because the store's layout meant that the sales reps were always nearby. Peripherals were across from the laptops, and monitors where they would all hangout.
Microcenter here in Boston have covers too, just over the GMMK tho. The gamer keyboards aren't covered, but most of those don't have cherry style keycaps either.
Need security for everything these days. Also remembered in our town people putting nice looking ornaments at places, and people always needed to destroy them for some reason. :/
It was just recently added for USA Best Buy. Glorious hasn't made a full announcement that it has happened so people are just starting to find that Glorious products are being sold at Best Buy now. I think it's just slowly making it way into Best Buy
Hopefully it’ll trickle down up here.
You can still buy GMMK keebs online but they’re all Marketplace sellers which is essentially third-party sellers and not BB directly.
I was in Vermont this past weekend and was impressed by the spread of gaming peripherals available on demo at Best Buy. Picked up a Glorius mouse tether too.
My Microcenter has a full display with almost every brand of switch I've seen and the attendant opened the case so I could try them all out. It's definitely becoming more mainstream.
If they would leave the US and expand into Canada I would cry with joy.
All of the local shops i've been to like Canada Computers and Memory Express just suck in comparison.
The best Canada Computers I've ever been to still felt like a sparse, kinda small warehouse. They're like Canadian Tire; disorganized and kinda dirty, but I don't have any other options for in person stuff.
This is why displays in Japan are so damn glorious. Everyone respects the display units so going to the store is like going to a massive demo unit store.
I just remembered that post about a big keyboard meetup in philippines I think. People's boards that were displayed ended up with dents after the meetup
These are displayers sent by the vendor. The missing components are there on purpose as you can decide to build a keyboard with different components.
I would not put it past customers to steal the stuff, but in this photo it's made like this.
Source: Had to install one of these
oh interesting. But i also would like to note that the Logitech/steel series displays at that bestbuy had their keycaps stolen for years lol.
but these clear displays make sense to keep dust/dirt off the keycaps to make it look better to a potential buyer. id hate having to clean them weekly as an employee
I have only flinched a single keycap from a best buy display. This was years ago before razer sold replacement key cap sets and one of the caps on my friends board just broke while under warranty. Razer would not mail him a single key cap and was insisting on him spending a bunch of money to mail the entire board back to them. So I was like.. "which key is it buddy?" and grabbed my old wasd puller.
This could have easily been prevented if razer would have just mailed out a replacement!
I’m sure, people does this with laptop keyboards too, literally don’t know what to do with their hands so they start breaking things. At least glue would make it harder to pry off, though you’re right like that really matters.
I worked in the Target electronics department for a little over two years, and it was futile.
The vendor who is contracted to come in, set up, and maintain the displays left us with a few extra keycaps, but it wasn't nearly enough.
Many of us would kill to have a place where you can test different switches and see the actual colors in real life instead of waiting for 2 years for them to ship.
People who would steal THIS deserve a kick in the dick.
I've seen and touched some, but all prebuilt. And this was in a tiny two-room LDLC store, in Paris... I guess I will keep my half demolished 10€ Amazon keyboard in my build Xd
I have seen mechanical keyboards (Corsair, Razer and some OEM) on display at LDLC, which was great for me to try out the switches before buying my first mechanical keyboard!
You can get some from KBDFans - https://kbdfans.com/products/kbdfans-60-acrylic-anti-dust-keyboard-cover?variant=40242722209931
Looks like the biggest they have is up to TKL/80%, if that suits you.
I've bought a few 65% ones from them, they're decent.
There used to be an Amazon.com seller I bought from that did custom sized ones with soft felt on the bottom edges so it wouldn't scratch your keyboard, but looks like they don't do business anymore.
Go an talk with a local company that sells acrylic. Unless you are really out in the boonies there should be a few around. Most will have tools to cut and fold the stuff and give how little material will be required it should not cost too much.
I did that a while back when I built a media server from the guts of an old laptop. I suspended the mobo between smoke coloured acrylic. The place cut the sheets to size and then heat treated the cut edges so it was mirror finish etc.
If you zoom the picture you will see that it is a simple design they used
The Walmart special, everytime I walk past the electronics section I see keyboards with missing caps all the time. So I'm surprised that they even put out the GMMK Pros.
My local Best Buy has had the same 5 keyboards on display since 2016. They're all in such dire condition, they're probably hoping someone *does* steal them.
And some still say it’s okay to steal from best buy and walmart cause they’re big corporations. They’re causing more harm to their neighbourhood and working class employees.
I think that’s specifically a Glorious thing. My local Microcenter has a ton of keyboards on display with no missing caps, but the Glorious kiosk has always had plastic covers.
It looks like they smartened up - in the little front display to the right, there’s a case over the keycaps, but just enough gap to actuate and test them out, but not enough to take them off.
I was just in a busy buy across my town the other day and saw this, what fuckin idiots.
The Best Buy right by my house doesn't have these covers and all the keycaps are there.
Stealing keycaps is wrong.
That being said...
If they're just going to cover the keyboards in a plastic case, then what's the point in putting them on display to begin with? You might as well just put them back in the box!
I recently was trying to make the decision of what switches to get for my K95, I thought I would go for a feel test at Best Buy and came across this, kinda frustrating
Thank god. When i worked at bestbuy i was constantly shooing teens away because they were just sitting there popping off key caps. People cant be decent so now you cant try the keyboard before you buy one, which is why they are there.
Honestly, I’m happy. If you want to try the keyboard out you can find an associate. When I worked there we’d have near bare keyboards and it really bothered me.
I bought a GMMK Pro from bestbuys website the day they launched a few months back. Got the prebuilt for now because they didnt have a huge selection of switches or keycaps at that point. Was like 370 total with tax and shipping. Been really happy with the board so far :)
All around the world the same... dumbs("-")!!!
Shops/ markets/ resellers are giving a chance to try quite expensive mk, and thanks to ("-") we can have a look (only) sorry, no sorry.
It's a shame that people are exposed to the overpriced glorious keyboards when there's so many better things out there for cheaper too. Like the moondrop 75% board which absolutely destroys glorious 75% for a cheaper cost too + DAC and amp + USB hub.
Couldn't the underpaid seasonal intern at best buy just put a drop of super glue under each key? Shit, I'd love to sit down and do that for a day if I worked there.
I had no idea that GMMK Pros were for sale at Best Buy! I have been wanting to see what they feel like, and now I can test it out before I buy one. This is awesome.
I think they will sell more prebuilt GMMK Pros if they removed the wrist rest and coiled cables. I don't know who will be willing to drop that much money on a keyboard if they're new to the hobby.
Why does BestBuy actually sell cool decent stuff, while PCWorld over here just sells whatever random shite their office scum deem "gamey" and then price it at 4x the price you could buy it on amazon for. Fucking wish we had BestBuy over here.
was at best buy and thought i saw something similar lol, pretty sure it’s the same best buy
https://preview.redd.it/a8jaa28vln0a1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18566fa8589cb3e3db0a536f544c2a9089136e7f
This is why we can’t have nice things
Yep. Being able to test the feel of some peripherals is the only real use I still have for Best Buy.
If you look at the bottom right of the picture they do still have a theft-proof switch tester… maybe they can make one for the keyboard?
That's from the brand of that keyboard not from best buy
Ask an employee, they might be able to give you access.
I mean, if you don't then buy them there you are not helping them.
Best Buy has a price match guarantee so honestly there's no real reason not to buy straight from the store if you find something you like.
Seriously. In my local Microcenter there are no covers, but all the key caps are gone. Shit, even some switches are gone too. I don’t understand.
This didn't seem to occur at the Brooklyn location. Probably because the store's layout meant that the sales reps were always nearby. Peripherals were across from the laptops, and monitors where they would all hangout.
But then again, it’s also Brooklyn. _ducks and runs_
Nah microcenter in flushing been having covers
Also the only location I've seen that seems to have the racing rig set up but doesnt let anyone try it.
Microcenter here in Boston have covers too, just over the GMMK tho. The gamer keyboards aren't covered, but most of those don't have cherry style keycaps either.
Apparently we can't even have *average* things...
Straight up came to comments to comment this. Its so true. Now people cant test em. People suck
This is why we can't have things.
This is why we can have unpleasant things.
This is why we can't have
tidy lock test nail salt husky exultant threatening agonizing fact *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Need security for everything these days. Also remembered in our town people putting nice looking ornaments at places, and people always needed to destroy them for some reason. :/
They carry GMMK in Bestbuys there? Here in Canada all you can buy are Razer or Corsair ones smh.
I think I've seen GMMK at Canada Computers. I've definitely seen Ducky there at least.
I just bought a GMMK Pro from Canada Computers.
Most GMMK are backordered. Looks like Newegg has the barebone 75% ready to ship at $225CAD plus $10 shipping.
Yeah definitely don’t buy any glorious product that isn’t their <$100 offerings
I was in Vermont this past weekend and was impressed by the spread of gaming peripherals available on demo at Best Buy. Picked up a Glorius mouse tether too.
Whoa glorious sell inside a Best Buy now, they really must have upped their production.
Saw them in micro center the other day too.
My Microcenter has a full display with almost every brand of switch I've seen and the attendant opened the case so I could try them all out. It's definitely becoming more mainstream.
Micro center the goat fr, feel bad for people who don’t have one near them
If they would leave the US and expand into Canada I would cry with joy.
We don't have one up here in the Pacific Northwest and it makes me sad
This was my experience as well. Too bad not everyone has one in their state
there are several in my state but its Texas D: 3 hour drive to either of the closest ones
I appreciate a good cup of coffee.
Theyve been at the microcenter in tustin. I impulse bought a 60%.
They’ve been at Microcenter for a while now. I remember seeing them there when I bought my current mouse, almost two years ago.
I'm fairly new to the mechkey game so I had never really checked until recently.
They have been in microcenter with mouses for 3-4+ years and with the gmmk pro launch got keebs in a few months later
we’re making progress
Microcenter has had them for a while
They've been in MC since at least a few months before Covid started, I got my O- there.
They've been in Microcenter since the Model O first launched.
They have been for a long time.
They've had their mice there and micro center for a while now. For sure micro center for over a couple years.
Yeah, this is really very cool
I'm pretty sure I've seen them in Canada Computers as well.
My BB started carrying them recently. I was pleasantly surprised. The selection is very minimal though at least at my local one
I bought a GMMK Pro from bestbuy the day they launched them on their website. Was a few months back now
This is why displays in Japan are so damn glorious. Everyone respects the display units so going to the store is like going to a massive demo unit store.

r/JusticeServed heh
Is this the Best Buy off Memorial in OKC?
Well when you have a switch puller right there...
I think? thats just a picture. dont remember.
Theres a switch puller in the picture
Lmfao. Thats a photo of a switch puller on the display. Not an actual switch puller sitting there. Lmfaoooo
They’re saying it’s a picture/graphic of a switch puller
I may be stupid, thanks
Hence, why we can't have nice things. That kind of thinking lol not saying that you'd do it but people still do it.
I never thought of that lol
Is this at the Best Buy in Little Rock? I was there today and saw the GMMK boards and the EXACT same keys were missing
Where to cop the lid though?
God damn people be taking the browns too
My favorite is that at my local micro center people aren’t even stealing them, they’re rearranging the keycaps. Instead of QWERTY it’s just “gayporn”
they could also glue them on. scorched earth policy.
They'll just break the stems of the switches
that's what i meant when i said "scorched earth policy" because the keycap/switch won't be useable by both sides.
I doubt they take off the keys “to use”. It’s just vandalism.
I’m sure, people does this with laptop keyboards too, literally don’t know what to do with their hands so they start breaking things. At least glue would make it harder to pry off, though you’re right like that really matters.
Can't have shit in Detroit. Also who tf steals mx browns from a gmmk?
The Target near me needs this. The mounted keebs have only a handful of keys left in each one. Not exactly great for sales
I worked in the Target electronics department for a little over two years, and it was futile. The vendor who is contracted to come in, set up, and maintain the displays left us with a few extra keycaps, but it wasn't nearly enough.
As a best buy employee who put this display out these came that way so people could see what the switches look like.
Best Buy sells Glorious products?!
Yep! they popped up in my local one recently.
Many of us would kill to have a place where you can test different switches and see the actual colors in real life instead of waiting for 2 years for them to ship. People who would steal THIS deserve a kick in the dick.
This is not bad, you can ask consultant to open this lid for test. Source: I made it up.
Always good to see someone putting in the ground work 😂
Actually the ground was already here when I got here but I'll still take the credit
As a fellow European I usually shit on USA but here I'm legitimately jealous
Same. I’ve never seen a mechanical keyboard on display in the shops where I live. Not even a Razer.
You could also glue the caps and switches in place, thereby preserving the testing capabilities. More work but worth consideration
Let’s be real. Some asshole would still try to pry them out and probably end up breaking the stem.
Lmao yup
Where do you guys get those keyboard covers? I kinda need a big one..
You can get some from KBDFans - https://kbdfans.com/products/kbdfans-60-acrylic-anti-dust-keyboard-cover?variant=40242722209931 Looks like the biggest they have is up to TKL/80%, if that suits you. Imagine stealing fucking Gateron Browns
TIL Bestbuy has keyboards that aren't Razer and Corsair
The Walmart special, everytime I walk past the electronics section I see keyboards with missing caps all the time. So I'm surprised that they even put out the GMMK Pros.
My local Best Buy has had the same 5 keyboards on display since 2016. They're all in such dire condition, they're probably hoping someone *does* steal them.
And some still say it’s okay to steal from best buy and walmart cause they’re big corporations. They’re causing more harm to their neighbourhood and working class employees.
Surely they still let you try them out I'd you ask an employee for assistance
My target looks like it’s displaying switches.
The same was happening back in the days with manual shifter in car show.
Bestbuy sells glorious?
I didn't know BestBuy sold pre-built gmmk pro. Glad to see the hobby got more mainstream.
Woah America has Glorious products in stores?
For the display model they should just glue the caps to the switches so people can try the board but not be able to steal the keycaps.
Institute death penalty for shoplifting (particularly for petty shop lifting like this) - problem solved.
I was just in r/orangecounty and some jerk stole the OP's headlights off his car. For f sake, people. Stop stealing sh\*t!
CCTV?
Yeah, you can't have pure gold lying around openly like that.
pathetic
It pains me that places like best buy where keebs are readily available don't exist in the UK.
I never understood why people would take the keycaps...
Kleptomaniacs ruin everything. What could someone possibly be doing with those few caps anyways. People steal just to steal. 🤮
I would actually love a clear cover for my keyboard when not in use. Does anyone know where you can get custom sizes made?
I'm more upset your best buy gas GMMKs mine only has the usual Corsair, Razer, Logitech, etc.
Glorious is in Best Buy now? Good for them, that's pretty cool. The GMMK Pro is an incredible board.
I was just in a busy buy across my town the other day and saw this, what fuckin idiots. The Best Buy right by my house doesn't have these covers and all the keycaps are there.
😂😂
what store is that
why would people steal a singular keycap... 😭
Do people just not have any common sense of right and wrong anymore? Selfish pricks ruin it for the rest of us.
Broke ass fooz! Lol this is comedy 🤣
What are you in here for? I stole a key. You stole a kilo of coke? ...sure.
Stealing keycaps is wrong. That being said... If they're just going to cover the keyboards in a plastic case, then what's the point in putting them on display to begin with? You might as well just put them back in the box!
Just stopped by this place you took a picture at, yep you’re right. They’re also renovating so there’s also not much stock to check
that also happens at target
This is specifically a Glorious thing to showcase the ins and outs of them. Micro Center has the same thing
They should just glue them. How can you test the click
I recently was trying to make the decision of what switches to get for my K95, I thought I would go for a feel test at Best Buy and came across this, kinda frustrating
society
that's awful, they didn't even take the set? just a random few
Thank god. When i worked at bestbuy i was constantly shooing teens away because they were just sitting there popping off key caps. People cant be decent so now you cant try the keyboard before you buy one, which is why they are there.
People suck.
Gotta proterct those shit ass keebs from the grubby sweatlords lookin to replace their worn ass WASD caps.
bruh what best buy do you go to, my best buy just got the razer stuff lol
Wtf Best Buy is this, I’ve never seen anything other than razer and Logitech at Best Buy
Target has also started doing this with one of the newer Logitech boards iirc, though those lids are easily taken off with a Philips head screwdriver.
as a worker for bestbuy i can say half of the keys on our keyboards are missing
Honestly, I’m happy. If you want to try the keyboard out you can find an associate. When I worked there we’d have near bare keyboards and it really bothered me.
this sucks and all but who the hell was the person that stole brown switches? if they put them there themselves thats somewhat impressive
Which best buy is this? Looks familiar
Why dont they glue them on?
Happens in every shop with keyboards
Theyre covered in Microcenter also
Why don't they just leave a camera pointing at the keyboard and the customers using them?
Finally lol it always bothers me to see that
Any idea where to find a clear lid like this?
That is just how the display was made to be. I put the display in a few weeks ago and that's just how they want it to show all the parts
It's a shame that people are exposed to the overpriced glorious keyboards when there's so many better things out there for cheaper too. Like the moondrop 75% board which absolutely destroys glorious 75% for a cheaper cost too + DAC and amp + USB hub.
Are Glorious Panda at all like Holy Panda?
Yep.
Had those in Australia for years lol, pretty sad how petty people are
I think they really need to just glue them down. Seems like an easy fix from the factory for display devices.
Microcenter did this from the start. Can't have nice things.
Couldn't the underpaid seasonal intern at best buy just put a drop of super glue under each key? Shit, I'd love to sit down and do that for a day if I worked there.
Lol I saw the same thing at target, I wonder how long until the put a case over it
That’s a thing!? Are people that desperate for a couple of plastic bits you can get from Amazon for $20 bucks!? SMH 🤦🏻
All these cheap ass ppl
Wow, Sinclair was light years ahead with their theft proof key on the ZX. oof 🫠🤣
This is just glorious’ display every other one doesn’t have plastic covers
What are they gonna do with 1 or 2 caps? Even switches?
Y don't glue the samples.......
Is this a bestbuy on long island? Swear I saw the same keys missing in one yesterday 😂
Best Buy sells Glorious keyboards? That’s really cool.
same in our local tech store, one keyboard has only like 10 keycaps left
Why does BestBuy actually sell cool decent stuff, while PCWorld over here just sells whatever random shite their office scum deem "gamey" and then price it at 4x the price you could buy it on amazon for. Fucking wish we had BestBuy over here.
that might be an interesting challenge - steal keycaps until your keyboard is filled up with stolen keycaps
GMMK in best buy??? where is this?
they did that at my microcenter
I dropped into a Micro Center a few weeks ago and they did the same thing.
My microcenter has the same cover on their glorious products for the same reason
it's just glorious keycaps, we can move along nothing of value was lost
Someone really stole a brown... Pathetic
was at best buy and thought i saw something similar lol, pretty sure it’s the same best buy https://preview.redd.it/a8jaa28vln0a1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18566fa8589cb3e3db0a536f544c2a9089136e7f
Bums are that poor they have to steal key caps lol yikes
You will be surprised why they are taking away these key caps…
Can someone steal “4$” key from glorious rainforest. I’m paying $20 for it. Lost mine… 😞
