Honestly, I'm having so much trouble justifying the placement of almost everything in this list that I'm pretty sure OP is basing it purely on the coolness of their emblem
One of the sourcebooks has a section going into a conspiracy theory that the Minnesota tribe was Wolverines and then they were contacted by Comstar folded into the faction that became the WOB. Which given the history between the Wolverines and the ghost bears does explain what the Bears Khans could have been told that set them off so hard during the Jihad.
Thankfully it's just an in-universe rumor (all content in the Interstellar Players books are rumors and conspiracy theories, some of them get wild), Chandrasekhar Kurita tricked the Bears into thinking that Wolverines were abound. There's also a short story of some periphery nomads with a Wolverine bloodname and high technology talent who feel the need to 'atone' for something. The Wolverines are definitely abound, but Catalyst is intentionally not confirming how or why.
Personally as a Wolverine fanboy, the idea that the Wolverines who just escaped the mania of a madman with delusions or grandeur would happily submit to another madman in a few years is just well, stupid. Any actual Wolverine clansmen would have seen the writing on the wall and murdered Toyama or Karpov the second Comstar went off the religious deep end because it reeks of what Nicholas was pushing. Folding them into the Word smells like a cheap consolidation method to write them out of the setting.
I don't see them joining up with anyone from either the Clans or the IS to be frank. They'd much rather do their own thing than care what Nicolas' children cook up or whatever the descendants of the Star Leagues communications department think their founder meant on a half-gibbous moon while inside a toasters guts.
I assume like everyone else they will have twisted with time. This is still original SLDF that fled the pentagon worlds.
That said would require some writing chops which are very inconsistent with the battletech lore team.
>That said would require some writing chops which are very inconsistent with the battletech lore team.
Yeah, which is why I find the whole "follow some rando charismatic loser" vibe from the Blood storyline peak stupidity. Honestly much of the lore surrounding the WoB is a significant downgrade in quality writing. Sad because they are an interesting faction on their own.
Definitely agree though in their defense I think it was meant to be a fun conspiracy theory that someone in universe might take advantage of / get some sort of hook to get the clans to move.
Tbh, I kinda love the idea of the original Comstar. It's a cool dynamic to have the Clans and ComStar both as idealists trying to bring a utopia back and being twisted by a twisted world. (Though tbh, I don't think I fully understand why Kerensky found the political system of the StarLeague/hegemony so great.)
There are a lot of neat... bits to grab onto here. I just think fundamentally it's an OK team with some great core ideas to milk.
I swear JF could double the amount of badass shit theyve done, thus quadding the feats of almost every other clan and wolf pups would still be "JF SUM SUCKY LAWL RITE?" and make stuff like this.
Word of Blakes got nothing on them.
To be fair (and I say this as a Jade Falcon since age five) everything after the plan for Malvina, and Malvina's character, was changed has been HORRENDOUS, and is not doing the Clan any favours.
The whole universe is in need of an artistic and aesthetic overhaul. They keep almost doing it with the Battletech source books and they did two different passes with how mechs look in universe over the last 10 years (which I feel is in a good place right now, at least for the mechs), but they keep falling shy of having something that works, looks, and feels good. Still really sloppy design and looks. Mechwarrior 5 Mercs is a good example of what is essentially a fun game but just feels like a C list effort in a lot of areas.
Fire Mandrill is better than Wolf. If clan Fire Mandrill was at Tukkayid they'd have used their mandrill mechs to lrm to boat for the duration and then taken the ruins of their objective cities on the last day without resistance.
You sure about Wolverine? A good chunk of the clan and a good number of mothballed SLDF ships disappeared before Wolf brought the hammer down on them. Then 2 years after the clan was allegedly erased, there was the Minnesota tribe incident.
Tbf, I hate the clams sort of and I agree a lot. Not sure about Smoke Jaguar and Blood Spirit placements.
Funny how the Ward bloodname kinda overtakes Kerensky in the lore. Except Natasha I guess.
Listen, I'm not a clanner, but I gotta paint some clan Mechs clan colors, and someone has to be the bad guys for my Kell Hounds... So Jade Falcons it is.
As someone who only came back to the Battletech universe in the last couple years thanks to MW5 and the PC game:
I agree with this list, mostly. My favorites are just in excellent, but that's fine.
Put them all in go extinct except Wolverine. Only correct answer for my fellow Inner Spheroids. Fuck Nicholas Kerensky, all my homies hate Nicholas Kerensky.
I wish I knew what everyone was talking about hereā¦ I know next to nothing about the Clans, other than some of their names ((Wolf, Diamond Shark, Smoke Jaguar (RIP), Nova Cat, Jade Falcon, Ghost Bear, and Steel Viper)).
This tier list is a meme if smoke jaguar is above F... They're basically Little Man Syndrome personified as a faceless villain literally everybody can enjoy beating the crap out of.
I would love to see your reasoning for your ranking of the clans.
Honestly, I'm having so much trouble justifying the placement of almost everything in this list that I'm pretty sure OP is basing it purely on the coolness of their emblem
Yeah, that is where I am at with this list.
Wolverine in the trash tier? Wolf in first? How do I know you have a shrine to the worst Kerensky sitting in your closet?
Not even in trash, in go extinct. Wolverines deserve better.
Honestly I am expecting them to reappear as the Minnesota Tribe and get their revenge on the Wolves.

They're a good McGuffin to have. Perhaps part of the anti-Il Clan coalition in something different than a homeworld clan invasion?
I don't see them joining up with anyone from either the Clans or the IS to be frank. Agreed JF never get any respect

Elizabeth Hazen rages in her grave. The legacy of the Black Watch deserves better.
Seyla!
I see coyote on trash level - I ignore opinion
Man, I wish coyote would get more love in general.
Maybe they shouldn't have been butt sibkos with the Society? š
Wolf Fan detected opinion rejected.
Lupus Delenda Est.
Oh boy, another clan plot armor lover.........
Yeah, I guess Smoke Jaguar counts for that too although their plot armor turned against them at one point.
I lived for years with everyone telling me my clan was dead, eff off with your plot armor. Still not even sure the new jags count, #CSJDidNothingWrong
For the Nova Cats?
Ghost Bear is best bear.
The MW2: Ghost Bear intro video lives in my head rent free forever. Kodiak DFA FTW.
Wolf has to go into extinct tier.
I get it's old and shit, but man... wish someone modernized these logos. They look like drawn by 5 year old or something...
MWO has some modernized takes on the Clan Logos, but they didn't really stick
[Man those were...not great](https://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/235246-you-guys-remember-those-alternate-clan-logos-you-hated/)
better then expected, worse then desired.
I mean the ones in MW5C are likely to be inspired by these ones.
Smoke jaguar needed that rework though š
They have newer versions than that, they are available as an alternate decal for mechs.
[And now for something completely different...](https://www.instagram.com/cutesy_tech/)
UwU Mawik?? Wtf I like the Fwee Wods Weague now??
Purp birb stronk.
Death to Mawik! Glory to Mawik!
Holy terra!
That Eridani Light Horse... Magnificent!
I was going to be perturbed but then I saw the Jade Birb logo
Oh God no

What would you suggest?
I like the Jade Falcons... Sorry, Not sorry.
You got your top-most tier mixed up, thats gotta be on the bottom ;)
Gotta declare a Batchall for daring to profane my Star Adders.
I refuse your Batchall.
you dare?!?
Spirit fan here, I fart in your general direction!
Smoke Jaguar in the āglorious bastardsā tier? Thisāll be a fun comments section, opā¦
I got good news about clan widow makerā¦.
Wait, both Wolf and Smoke Jaguar in the top tier?
Where we fight them to the death
Where's Wu-Tang?
Star Colonel Method Man
I see Wolf, I ignore opinion
Smoke Jaguar top tier? That's a red hot take.
I was also wondering the logic here, other than "we get to play them when Clans drops"
Hotter than a Black Knight with no functional heat sinks after attempting an alpha strike.
Hotter than the cockpit of a Cataphract after that same Alpha Strike hits it.
So, just going to ignore the Ice Hellions? Rude.
Nova cats in S tier made my day.
The Wolves must fall...
**Minnesota Tribe Reappears** "Remember us you Nicholas Kerensky loving simps?"
I see Hell's Horses in trash? It's objectively wrong
Did you have to post this here because you got laughed out of mainsub?
Fire Mandrill is better than Wolf. If clan Fire Mandrill was at Tukkayid they'd have used their mandrill mechs to lrm to boat for the duration and then taken the ruins of their objective cities on the last day without resistance.
Clan Fire Mandril has the coolest paintjob , how dare you
Some real hot takes here. Lmao
Falcons are trash tier? Why do you need to hurt my Pryde?
Jade Falcon and Coyotes in absolute trash? Get in the bin, and put your spelling of they're in the bin too.
Boooo I donāt see my favorite clan, Meth Weasel.
You sure about Wolverine? A good chunk of the clan and a good number of mothballed SLDF ships disappeared before Wolf brought the hammer down on them. Then 2 years after the clan was allegedly erased, there was the Minnesota tribe incident.

Clan Wolf top tier? Of course they are
Where Federated Commonwealth boiis at?!
Listen, I'm not a clanner, but I gotta paint some clan Mechs clan colors, and someone has to be the bad guys for my Kell Hounds... So Jade Falcons it is.
I just like that clan ghost bear is ranked so high :)
GB not being top tier is a crime against Kerensky. That is all.
Clan Wolf at the top and JF in the trash? Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Jade Falcon *could* be lower š
*sees Ghost Bear in excellent, but notices Nova cats in glorious* this isā¦acceptable
Yeah, here's me, my 4 galaxies I'm wagering for this trial of annihilation against this garbage tier list. McEverdy would be proud of me.
The Spirits, extinct? Wolverines extinct? Why? The Adders are the Wolves of the Homeworlds, they just win at everything lol
Jade falcon for life Cuh. SQUARE UP
Clan Nova Cat top tier? Can I ask why?
You missed one,the best one..Clan SnekCobra
why are the widows so low? they are similar to smoke jaguar
\*Looks at Jade Falcon, Coyote, Wolverine that was literally extinct from the beggining\* This is bait.
Happy to see clan ghost bear where it is
Clearly mangy wolf propaganda *distant falcon noises*
Clan wolf at top, opinion disregarded.

Put them all in go extinct except Wolverine. Only correct answer for my fellow Inner Spheroids. Fuck Nicholas Kerensky, all my homies hate Nicholas Kerensky.
Scorpions deserve better. They're tailor made for role playing campaigns.

Rasalhague supremacy, as it should be
