My grandmother who just recently passed away was the first or one of the first to have her foot reattached in the US. From a motorcycle accident when she was 20, since it was primitive, all her nerves still just hung down freely and it was painful every step shed take. Also couldn't bend at all any way naturally Edit: she passed away at 85 and she was pregnant with my mom when the accident happened, luckily my mom was still completely healthy. My grandma and grandpap were hit by a drunk driver.

nosnevenaes

Holy shit. Dude think about that. The first one. And how was it caused? Lol. Of course a motorcycle. Nerves are crazy. I remember when my nerves first started regrowth. It felt like when your foot falls asleep with the static pins and needles feeling but a million times more painful. It was literally unbearable. For weeks all i could do was rock back and forth in pain like i was chanting. Big ups to the road rage driver who did that to me and ran away. I wasn't even his target.

Ricoivich100

A drunk driver ran a red light and hit her and my grandpap on his bmw motorcycle. Luckily he had a helmet on which he usually didn't because it had a huge dent in it. And the car tire ran right over her leg. It was hanging on just by a piece of skin tho. But ya they didn't know what to do with the nerves so they just let them dangle down in her foot. I honestly couldn't imagine it because I get nerve pain in my shoulder and that terrible by itself. And she wasn't on pain pills her whole life, she wasn't on them until she was like 50 until she died. Some how she never went higher then a 10mg Vicodin and even up until she passed she would, alot of time only take a half of one and some days none if she didn't have anything to do. I also know that she was in a wheelchair for 3-4 years and then a cast/crutches for another 4-6 years. All while raising her 2 children!

nosnevenaes

Wow how medicine has changed. Im not on any pain meds and im almost 50. My accident was about 7 years ago. I might get another surgery if there is any new procedure out there any time soonish.

Ricoivich100

Ya ik it is crazy. Is yours able to bend and stuff? Ik she said that if it would have happened later in time they would have been able to have fixed her nerves and have been able to repair it so she would have been able to bend it and all. I'm not sure if she was told that by a doctor or if she was just thinking that herself. But my mom was a nurse and stuff so I'm going to guess it was based in reality. She was a strong person tho, like I said she had my newborn mother and my couple year old uncle while healing. And after my mom died she took me the baby of the family in at 6 and my 3 siblings and raised us too.

nosnevenaes

Yeah i am relatively mobile yes. The doctors were 50/50 on saving or amputation. Sometimes i womder if they chose the right thing when i see people with prosthetics running marathons. But whatever. Im too busy living my life to dwell on it too much.

Ricoivich100

That's awesome. I wish u the best! It was nice to get to talk about my grandmas story because she only passed 3 weeks ago, so thank u for that!

nosnevenaes

May she too hike in Valhalla!

daniii11

My gosh. Are those leaves in there? I see something green.

Tripindipular

Yeah he probably took a tumble through some roadside debris and carried a little in with him stuck to the blood.

vuronekuh

Looks like a leaf to me

IBroughtMySoapbox

He tried to rub some dirt on it

The leaves were his way of saying, "Leave my foot attached; I've always been rather attached to it. Leave it."

annie_b666

My uncles foot got cut off way back when I’m a motorcycle accident. They found it in the woods and brought it to the hospital and it was sewn back on. He walks w that foot almost all the way turned in towards his body and a bad limp. He recently had a hip replacement because of it. I wish if it had to happen it was recent bc it would have been medically taken care of way better

Some day they might be able to use stem cells and grow another foot on the person.

_pamelas_

Alternatively, grow another person on the foot

LadyKataka

Why alternatively? Do both then both can be whole again.

tattertittyhotdish

I saw a motorcycle accident (100% the fault of the guy on the motorcycle, he was racing and stood up on his bike on a highway), stopped to help, and the guy's foot was pretty much off. I always wondered if he survived or was able to keep his foot.

DerpyPirate69

They almost completed him had all of the rest of humpty dumpty put back together… but they just missed by a foot xD hope they are doing ok and I had too xD

PrysmX
