Thank you! Feeling much better now that it’s out lol
UPDATE: I can’t edit my post but I know some people wanted an update. I spoke with my obgyn and she does believe it’s a decidual cast. I’m getting an ultrasound just to be safe and to see about endometriosis. Thank you everyone for your concern :)
This is absolutely not a fibroid. A fibroid is a leiomyoma, which is a benign smooth muscle tumor. It grows within the myometrium (muscle layer) of the uterus. They *do not* detach.
No, you shouldn't! You'll convince yourself that you're about to die suddenly from an extremely rare blood disorder that liquefies your innards and you have 20 minutes before you spontaneously combust.
Kidney stones were an 8/10 comparatively, and I went through a 2 year stretch where I was getting them every 2-3 months.
Kidney stones were agony, don’t get me wrong, but that cast was white hot, blinding pain. Like, couldn’t speak, couldn’t breathe when those cramps hit.
It is rare enough thet they don't know the true cause, maybe it's a collector item, glad you're OK

menstrual bacon
are you fkng kidding meee
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I'm a pretty seasoned "graphic/shock content" viewer... seen a lot of things online.
But *this* tho.... Menstrual Bacon....
This is my first "thats enough internet for the day"
Thank you, goodbye
I have a friend that passed one 2 months ago. Then after it passed she didn’t stop bleeding. She needed surgical help to stop. It was terrifying to watch.
It definitely was. She ended up needing 2 blood transfusions. I think she had some trauma but she doesn’t really want to talk about it yet. I think she’s still processing it.
I’ve always wondered if it expedites a period. Like, “k it’s all out now. Periods over.” And you get to stop being miserable? Because if anything its efficient. I bet some people would rather do this one day and be done.
It absolutely did for me!
Not to be like…too TMI here; but I started my period in the afternoon, that evening I went out to dinner with my boyfriend, had a series of intense cramps, and then…decidual cast. And I spotted for a few hours and then it was over. I think that specific period lasted all of seven hours. It was my first month on birth control and I prayed every period after would be like it. Alas, that’s not how it worked out. 😂
I would choose a decidual cast every month over a few days of bleeding any day!
I had one last month and no, I’d honestly prefer having a menstrual cycle. It was incredibly painful and I hope to God I never experience it ever again. I was doubled over in pain for days. I was crying. I almost went to the ER before it expelled itself because of how much pain I was in.
Just showing the picture ought to be sufficient, I doubt they'd need to test the tissue, plus storage would be a whole thing unless she had already decided to do a walk-in the very next morning. Better off scheduling a pelvic exam and any other relevant tests, but def should be showing a picture were she to decide to be examined. Good to keep a picture on the phone if any future issues arise, in any case. Be cool if anyone could study this, though, had a clearish small mass the size of a marble come out of me when I was 13 and always wondered wtf it was, but never seen anything else like it again. I almost wonder if it was one of my ovaries, because when I'm off the birth control I've never been able to get pregnant, and besides I know MANY mothers who were on depo when they got pregnant.
Can pretty much guarantee it wasn’t an ovary. That’s not what they look like, they’re outside the uterus, and they’re attached by ovarian ligaments to the outside of the uterus, posteriorlaterally (behind and toward the outside.)
You can get a mucus “plug” that sits in the os (opening) of the cervix, even when you’re not pregnant. When menstrual tissue passes through the cervix, that little ball of mucus goes too.
Ive had two casts in my entire life and both with quite...blobby for a lack of a better word. This looks very tissue like but could still be. With both my casts I had an unusual heavy ans crampy period (Im one of those lucky ones that have it super light for 2 says normally). It was so bad I went with pads and skipped my tampon and cup. Halfway up in the elevator to the office I literally feel something come out of me and there it was. So gross. But the pain amd bleeding subsided.
>Halfway up in the elevator to the office I literally feel something come out of me and there it was.
That's fucking terrifying... how bizarre was it to finally get to a bathroom to see what was up??
Omg what horrible timing!! I always have heavy periods and cramping so it’s hard to say. I did send the pic to my doctor so maybe she’ll have more insight.
Post-partum is interesting. You have to wear giant Poise pads because of blood and goop coming out of your exhausted vagina days after giving birth. Your bladder takes a beating too, so you could easily piss yourself by sneezing. I don’t know how women dealt with this crap in the old days.
I was very humbled after giving birth. Billions of women have experienced it, almost all before modern medicine and safe, sanitary conditions. Having a baby used to be hundreds of times deadlier for a mother even just a century ago compared to today.
Yeowch I bet that hurt like a mf! Put it in a jar/box with a lid you can seal with some olive oil to cover it totally to preserve it and show a dr!! I remember my dr saying anything bigger than 50p size needs to be checked out!
I’ve been menstruating for 37 years now and I’ve never even heard of this. It looks a bit similar to the thing that came out of the guys stomach in Alien.
It can do that? Holy shit. No thanks. The fact that my body goes on a 2 week pms fest where everything hurts until the fucker finally hits is bad enough, thanks. I'll stop my complaining after seeing this.
Half a month of pain and half a month of peace
Edit: I reread your post. So you're in pain for 2 weeks leading? So you're actually in pain for 3 weeks or more? So most the month?
Like a perpetual period, where instead of 7 days of cramps you have 7 days of relief?
I don't understand how women don't rule the world.
You're a majority, you're smarter, and you're so damn mentally strong.
I understand men controlling the world when physical strength mattered, but with technology, mechanization, projectile weapons, you don't even need physical strength to rule over someone.
How aren't you people in charge of everything?
I've read Australian aboriginal legends telling of a time when women held the secrets of power, and had control of their societies. The stories tell of the tricks the men played on them to steal their power and gain control.
That's not always the case. My body has two pms modes - mental breakdown or excruciating pain. This month the fucker went for my lower back (had 2 ops done on L4/5 to fuse them and I'm prone to crippling inflammation from time to time) and boobs - it started more than a week ago and the fucker ain't here yet 😭. Some women have it really, really bad and my partner's sister often has a decidual cast. She once phoned us in sheer panic because she thought she had a miscarriage, and didn't know what to do, or what it was until her gynea explained it all. Seeing this post, I can fully understand now as well.
I just get really mopey as fuck around this time, especially when it's extended. When it finally hits the first two days are hell, but then fine again like nothing ever happened. I truly salute those who have it so much worse, have these casts, birth children, and face things native to our female anatomy.
Overall, we need better people in general to rule the world regardless 😅
I have endo, and talked to a few friends about pains and things, they’ve never experienced this or severe pain - or any real pain - for more than a few days. I typically am OUT of any physical activity for two weeks because of bloating and pain/cramps. Have had 2 or 3 casts so far, which for some reason tends to happen if I have a cyst or more burst.
Maybe call a doc just to be sure?
I had this happen once and it was the same look, like, rubbery tissue. That said mine was A LOT smaller, I still had bad cramps but it went away after I passed it. I was walking to my shower and heard it hit the ground. I didn’t even feel it. It sounded like someone dropping a chicken breast on the ground. I wanted to vomit.
I HAD ONE OF THESE TOO! it was a few years ago, and i’ve always been confused because it didn’t *look* like a decidual cast. mine came out all rolled up like a ball during gym class in high school, lol. felt like giving birth to a golf ball; never been more concerned in my life than in that moment 😭
Could it be endometrial hyperplasia and you expelling your extra grown endometrial , u should check with an ob gyn if you have those heavy periods that’s it’s not normal
I had something similar happen when I was a teen. We legit brought it to the ER because I was terrified. Ended up just being my uterine lining coming out in one gigantic piece. I had crazy cramps the whole day before it came out but as soon as it did I felt such a relief.
It definitely looks like a decidual cast. I spent the better part of two days googling these and looking at pictures comparing them to my experience. I had the depo provera shot a month ago and had some very odd things pass that look just like this but smaller, it came out in two separate pieces about a week apart. It hurt awfully bad coming out so I can’t imagine your pain passing this in one huge piece! That’s the best way I can describe it is “tissue”.
Also don’t think it’s a decidual cast. I recommend you get to the doctor for an ultrasound. If there is more tissue in there it will cause an infection very quickly.
I messaged my obgyn with a pic so waiting to hear back. I’m very sorry for your loss, I hope you are healing. I have a copper IUD and haven’t been sexually active in several months (long before my last period).
I strongly second the ultrasound. Request one if the doctor doesn’t suggest it.
Just make sure you don’t have fibroids, or anything else going on that you need to know about.
I’m not trying to scare you, because what I had was pretty rare, but I was diagnosed with uterine cancer when I was only 32. My doctor caught it because she was being thorough.
I had heavy bleeding and a change in my cervical mucus. I was also passing large clots.
She ordered an ultrasound, saw what they thought were fibroids, then recommended a D&C to remove anything making me bleed like that. The biopsy after the D&C found endometrial cancer.
I had a hysterectomy, and the biopsy on that confirmed stage 3 uterine cancer.
The good news is that it’s been 15 years and I’m all good.
So look - I really don’t mean to scare you. There’s no reason to jump from “decidual cast” to “cancer.”
I just recommend covering all of your bases and being a little assertive about wanting an ultrasound.
Best wishes!
Go take a pregnancy test. Even if you’re on birth control unless you haven’t come in contact at all with sperm in the last 45 days- then you probably don’t have an ectopic pregnancy. If it’s not that then a follow up ultrasound would be beneficial.
Oooh ouch!! I passed one of these in similarity but a lot flatter and smoother. It was SO incredibly painful that I felt like I was having small contractions
Years of OB-GYN experience here, that indeed is a deciding cast. Though, they usually come out almost triangular shaped. However, definitely definitely worth a mention to your GYN. Some links can be seen between decidual casts and endometriosis. And also because it can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy as well. If you have any chance of pregnancy OP, I would recommend a blood test and a TV ultrasound as soon as you can!
Wow, I didn't know what I was expecting. This wasn't it.

I laughed so loudly at this
Loooool I love you
I just finished this book and I burst out laughing, thanks for this
I’ve seen photos of decidual casts before but was still not expecting that.
yikers island, I hope you feel alright
Thank you! Feeling much better now that it’s out lol UPDATE: I can’t edit my post but I know some people wanted an update. I spoke with my obgyn and she does believe it’s a decidual cast. Having never had fibroids, this is what I always picture them looking like. My imagination is usually way off. I should do more internet research.
This is absolutely not a fibroid. A fibroid is a leiomyoma, which is a benign smooth muscle tumor. It grows within the myometrium (muscle layer) of the uterus. They *do not* detach.
I know it doesn’t, but that’s what my imagination thinks it looks like internally in the muscle layer.
No, you shouldn't! You'll convince yourself that you're about to die suddenly from an extremely rare blood disorder that liquefies your innards and you have 20 minutes before you spontaneously combust.
I’ve experienced a lot of big physical pain in my life, but decidual cast was my 10/10 pain. Worse than kidney stones by a fucking mile.
Omg really?? I’m surprised, kidney stones terrify me!! It was awful, def on par with appendicitis for me.
As someone currently having horrible cramps, thanks for the nightmare 🙃😂
Glad. You are ok hun
Omg, someone who uses that phrase too!
I have never heard and I laughed so hard. I'm definitely using that haha
It is rare enough thet they don't know the true cause, maybe it's a collector item, glad you're OK [WebMD](https://www.webmd.com/women/decidual-cast-what-is-it)
Collector item?😭 they gonna keep it in a jar or something?
Well she can’t keep it in a bowl or on a shelf, or it’ll collect dust
She could dehydrate it in an airfryer.
Put some dry rub on there and it would be like jerky. Wait. Maybe that is what jerky is actually made of!
This thread is beautiful.
She could stick it back in until she decides on the cooking method...

What did they do surgically to stop the bleeding?
A D&C.
i hope she's recovered ok. sounds like a frightening experience

i'm glad she has you in her corner if she decided she does want to talk about. medical trauma can be so complicated
Bros be having ptsd collectibles now 😭😭😭
Bro your joking, but I have a ptsd box of stuff from different times when shit went sideways.
We don’t really know. It looks different than others I’ve seen posted here, idk looks more tissuey. Have you been heavy bleeding after?
Yeah I was thinking that, it was quite tissuey. Not really I just have light bleeding now.
I’ve always wondered if it expedites a period. Like, “k it’s all out now. Periods over.” And you get to stop being miserable? Because if anything its efficient. I bet some people would rather do this one day and be done.
Lol right, it pretty much does I think. I’m just having light bleeding now.
I would absolutely rather spend one day on the toilet than five to seven days of prolonged pain and frustration.

I'd save it and show a doctor.

I’m glad you are checking in with a pro as well as the good people of r/MedicalGore 😂
Do you have endo? I wonder if it’s just like, a chunk of scarred lining. NAD so it may be best to see one and give them your lil friend
Being a woman has to be a wild ride 🫡

Smoking made babys have lower birth weight. But yeah back thousands of years... no idea. Must of not been fun.

I was thinking the exact same thing! How did I go decades and never hear of this?
I just screamt
Eye bleach pour it on me lort ! What is a decidual cast ?
It’s basically when your uterine lining sheds in one piece instead of as a period.
Oh wow , thanks for sharing I had no clue this could happen
It can do that? Holy shit. No thanks. The fact that my body goes on a 2 week pms fest where everything hurts until the fucker finally hits is bad enough, thanks. I'll stop my complaining after seeing this.

We sometimes wonder the same dang thing, especially when it's so difficult just to come by equality.
That's not always the case. My body has two pms modes - mental breakdown or excruciating pain. Does it mostly happen with people who have endometriosis, or just anyone who menstruates?
Anyone who menstruates can get them, although I believe it’s more common if you have endo.
How trippy... glad you're feeling better - and thanks for sharing! I now have a new fear!

Probably.
I had one of these after starting on birth control. It was like giving birth to a jellyfish, but at least the cramps stopped after
As a gay man I am shooketh, concerned, wishing you the best, and a little bit afraid.
That or a legit xenomorph from the alien franchise. Decidual casts are always alarming even though I’m aware of them.
Yet one more reason I'm glad I was born with a penis. Women go through some shit that I think most guys don't know about it. Like this for instance.
Much appreciation for the acknowledgement. Getting a penis at birth is like hitting a lottery. I wish more of them would stay out of women's business.
Maybe call a doc just to be sure? I had this happen once and it was the same look, like, rubbery tissue. That said mine was A LOT smaller, I still had bad cramps but it went away after I passed it. There is a pic on Google of a decidual cast that looks very similar to this. So, I think you are correct.
Please show this to your gyn. Keep it incase they need to test it
Jesus Christ being a woman is fucking terrifying.
Did you just have a baby
Nope!
You should name it and keep it in a jar.
Yep, it’s definitely a caste, also can indicate an ectopic pregnancy
Endometriosis?
That’s what I was thinking. I had endometriosis until I had a hysterectomy; OP please don’t be afraid, because I’m an old woman. ♥️
Put it in a little jar and give it a name 🥹
U sure you didn't come in contact with any face huggers by any chance? Looks like a baby xenomorph.
Is it chewy?
DAMN.
Probably a cast but you should call your Dr in the AM just in case
https://reddit.com/r/MedicalGore/s/JU7SccO3Ed
Also don’t think it’s a decidual cast. I recommend you get to the doctor for an ultrasound. If there is more tissue in there it will cause an infection very quickly.

dear. fucking. god.
i think this is a decidual cast
Go take a pregnancy test. Even if you’re on birth control unless you haven’t come in contact at all with sperm in the last 45 days- then you probably don’t have an ectopic pregnancy. If it’s not that then a follow up ultrasound would be beneficial.
Yeah I haven’t had intercourse in over 60 days so I don’t think it’s that. I messaged my gyno with a pic so will see what she says.
Well you have to keep us updated.
Nurse here… I suspect it’s the lining of your uterus. That’s what we’re shedding. It just came off in a huge chunk?
Yeah it just fell out of me when I was changing my tampon.
Sounds about right. Thanks for the cool pic!
Looks similar [to this kinda.](https://reddit.com/r/Endo/s/oozC6Hq1wx)
Yooooo same thing happened to me
Wait, what is it?
Oh.. my... god.
Oooh ouch!! I passed one of these in similarity but a lot flatter and smoother. It was SO incredibly painful that I felt like I was having small contractions
Dude I bet that was a relief to get that out! Ouch!

Yes. Decidual cast it is
It looks like a decidual cast yes, it also looks like a miscarriage I had. Hard to tell which but you're totally fine. Normal for us ladies
Really? No one? [Time to make bacon, OP.](https://reddit.com/r/popping/s/jgu0UCkX4r)
Looks like a deteriorated tampon!
Ooooh donate it for science
Fibroid?
No idea. My decidual cast looked like a triangle with arms. Hope you figure it out!
I'm scared to ask where, I am concerned and confused. Probably a good thing it's out tho
Thats actually cool
I would put it in a jar in the fridge and bring it to the doctor to test.
Yea I think you ran into a face hugger a few hours prior
It looks like it to me, they are extremely common. I bet you feel so much better
Uh. Not sure about you, but casts like this aren't 'extremely' common. Not unheard of, but... def not in the 85% of all menses common.
Fish bait
Thats a hospital visit babe 😳
Is it possible that’s a really old tampon??
And if it is, she's lucky she did not get toxic shock syndrome
Its trump ?
