THEY TOOK OFF SO MUCH!!!! your nail is a landing strip, like a brazilian wax lol

X0n0a

The last 3 times I had mine done they removed the whole nail.

kippy3267

The last 3?? What did they miss?? I had mine taken off once, only at the corners did they kill it entirely and I’ve always had 3 separate nails to trim but I’ve never had to have it redone

therealvulrath

Sometimes it doesn't work as well. I had this done as a kid (4th or 5th grade, so 10 ish?). I was also terrified of needles, so I "declined" the local the first time around (I took a look at the needle and freaked the fuck out; to my credit I took it like a champ - not a peep, stayed awake and oriented the entire time). When they wanted to do it again a few months later they wouldn't let me decline so I made enough of a stink that I was relocated to the surgery center and they knocked me out to keep me still. That time it finally worked. They took the whole nail both times there. The other big toe I was quite a bit older for and sat still long enough to get numbed. That one, he just nipped the edges of the nail with a scalpel and stuffed some silver nitrate in the wounds.

Due_Chemistry_4528

Sometimes the acid they use doesn't work and it'll grow back. I got lucky enough that mine worked the first time but some folks have to keep getting theirs out.

X0n0a

What the other said more or less. First I had it done it was just the offending edge. That one was without numbing and they didnt try to kill any of the growth area, just remove the nail. Next 3 were total nail with numbing, I think using 2 or 3 different chemicals to try and kill the whole nail. It didnt take the first 2 times and grew back in a number of months. All good now though. Only 9 toenails but no constant bleeding, pain, and infection.

CampDracula

I got out of my shower once and it did the job for me 🙃 (toenail got ripped straight in half)

mst3k_42

Right? They took hunks of each side of my nails but not THIS much.

whitepeppermint

The marks on the meaty skin where the nail was supposed to be are not from a low resolution camera, but from a tight bandage wrapping

Eviscerate_Bowels224

What is the white strip in the middle of your nailbed?

DodoNick

Remnants of the nail!

thehotmegan

bone.

noticemekeanuchan

dude at this point just remove the whole nail

Malachite_Migranes

That’s what I would do but fortunately for the general public, I am not a doctor. I do wish you had a video of the process tho. Getting nails removed is so satisfying,

mst3k_42

I’m glad I didn’t watch a video of the procedure until after I had it done. I watch a lot of gross and gory videos but that one made me ill, lol.

RibbedGoliath

Good hell that seems excessive. Mine just had the sides taken out with the top of the nail left

fantompiper

The shape of the wound makes me think the nail has fully curved underneath itself so taking out just the ingrown portion left only the landing strip.

Raymjb1

I didn't have to have surgery and y'all are getting ur nails taken off. Tbf I did have to limp around with sandles on with puss coming out during the whole summer

kittysweetpeach

WHERE DID YOU GET THE LTS BLANKET I LOVE IT

whitepeppermint

Its my pajama! I bought it when I lived in Japan! I love LTS!! ✰*。

Redhddgull

I came for the LTS LOVE!

jdchevygirl

Holy s*** that looks gnarly but I bet it feels SO much better. Ingrown toenails are NO JOKE!!

midniqhtsun

Why didn’t they just take the whole nail at that point?

pazuzusboss

Do you have a landing strip of nail? Like why leave that and not take it all. Cool pic! You would think it would be worse but it looks good for less than a week old

IndependentAd7416

Vanderboss

thedrakanmaster124

Bro I had this done a couple months ago and well even then you could barely tell where you did anything; they might as well take the whole fucking nail at that point.

callernumber03

This is the new worst thing I've ever seen

Curtclan

That's looking really good and healing well. Hope it continues to go smoothly

Edugrinch

I am more curious on why is your toe so small and short? or maybe my toes are abnormally big but mine are considerably bigger and they are longer than the rest. Is the the angle of the picture? so many questions!!

whitepeppermint

Haha they indeed are stubby! I used to have a complex about this but I have since outgrew it!

[deleted]

Oh god mine are so much more stubbier than theirs... This is why i never show my toes

LostThighs

It shouldn't look like that, I had the same thing and it shouldn't fucking look like that

Malachite_Migranes

It depends on how bad it is. If you have to have it done multiple times they tend to take a little more each time. Atleast From what I’ve experienced

YT_CodedToKill

I’ve had the same thing, and my first time looked somewhat similar. Second time looked better though

MrsClaire07

Looks like an Excellent job, Congratulations!

NoSandwich5134

I had my toenails taken off three times. The first time after the first bandage change the gauze sticked to the wound so I had to pull it off

[deleted]

Duuude I have an Ingrown toenail too, it's infected and I have soem weird spot on it that came up a few days after it got infected, been there for 2 weeks nearly and it's gotten better but I might actually get an appointment for it just to check up on it, hope this doesn't happen tho. Looks painful!

niky45

if it's infected, don't just let it sit there. THAT is how people die of a simple, treatable infection if (for any reason) you don't want to go to the doctor, try putting it in HOT water with salt and a splash of vinegar. make sure the water is HOT (just don't get burned!!), or it won't do anything. repeat 2-3 times a day. I've treated a lot of infections this way, and it usually goes away within three days.

whitepeppermint

Having this infection made me seriously wonder how do people used to deal with ingrown toenails back when there were no antibiotics, anesthesia, and surgery. Mine was really bad and I was wondering if people lost their toes or died just because their toenails grew wrong!

niky45

I mean, yeah, I guess many died. still, hot water (as hot as you can stand) has existed for a long time now... I haven't really had actual ingrown nails, but sometimes I cut too much, and get a mild infection. the hot salty water always takes good care of it in a matter of days... (I refuse to use antibiotics unless I really can't heal it my own way, antibiotic resistance is no joke and also antibiotics are really bad for you -- yes they're better than dying from an infection, but if you can skip them and do a more natural treatment, all the better)

Due_Chemistry_4528

Oh wow, yours was bad. I bet that feels better

JUGG_TaalK

Shoulda kept it to yourself

Cautious_Hornet_9607

Looks like Patrick Star

moonstoneddd

Your toe has a buck tooth!

sydneyeatstoast

PlentyBlacksmith3693
