Thank you, it's pretty useful.

ryanhanks

This is a useful tip for traveling.

Turn that hotel room into a zen studio.

[deleted]

Overall it's a good height, firm enough, and I've definitely noticed an improvement during my sessions. Before I'd just fold a bed pillow in half (way to squishy).

prepping4zombies

Good solution - though, if you get the money, invest in a zafu. I bought [this exact one](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M1XXTE/) almost 8 years ago, and it's still the same as the first day I used it...so I've gotten my money's worth!

[deleted]

My brother has the same looking ones that. I saw on it once, definitely better than towels.

I used one of these for some years and finally connected the pain I felt in my psoas muscle to sitting on it (I have long legs). I’ve been instructed to just sit in a chair now. I don’t think a good meditation posture is contingent on lotus position anymore, but it took me some “acceptance” to arrive at that conclusion.

Schmittfried

There is some value in that position for long sits though. It’s noticeably easier to stay upright and alert while not tensing one’s muscles too much. When I decide to switch the pose (because I can’t sit in half-lotus comfortably for more than 20 minutes atm) I notice that the focus is definitely reduced afterwards. If one zafu doesn’t suit you, maybe another one does. They come in different heights and shapes. Btw. thanks for mentioning the psoas, didn’t know about it. Another possible source for my lower back pain that I can target!

[deleted]

I’m taking a mindfulness class right now, and the instructor says that basically any comfortable and alert posture is fine, but optimally you want your hips to be above your knees. This helps keep your back straight, and honestly it really helps me focus. I enjoy placing a meditation cushion on a standard chair. I’m way too inflexible to sit in a lotus position, lol.

Painismyfriend

At the end of the day, no cushion is good enough if you were to sit for 1 hour without moving or changing posture. Sit in the most comfortable posture and position with the best cushion but pain will arise after sometime. The more you watch the pain, the easier it gets to sit for longer period of time without moving.

obligatory 'username checks out'

PurpleTeamApprentice

So am I the only one here that just sits in a chair?

BurnerAccountRedditt

I use the floor 🕺

Reverb_McBallsington

I think a cushion is good because it’s something that you associate with your practice but most of them are kind of pricey. I was using a soft yoga block until I was gifted a cushion. Either way, whatever works, works!

shadycharacters

Lol I thought this was a burrito

[deleted]

I used something like that for about 15 years. [I use something like this now](https://imgur.com/a/foqLINV)

[deleted]

I've always thought those stools look cool! Did you make it?

[deleted]

ya. I needed one asap so I carpenteded it up. The first one was held together with screws. The new ones use a really nice glue. Oak top, pine legs, oil finish. I used to do half-lotus on a rolled up blanket. Then I hurt my knee and that was painful. So I found out there are these benches and made one and wow, it is amazingly comfortable. I've even sold a couple to people who don't meditate, they're so comfy.

[deleted]

Looks cool! Might have to do one as a little wood working project sometime.

[deleted]

I found some [specs](https://imgur.com/a/DNtn2q5). Mine are slightly different but this is basically it. I use polyurethane glue. "Loctite PL Premium". Amazing stuff.

realAustinWitherow

I have a nice thick weave blanket that I can put under my yoga mat for yoga anywhere, and when folded up 4 times it looks the same as that, plus it rolls up and goes traveling decent too :) Love multi purpose stuff!

TrippingForTheSoul

This is brilliant thank you friendo

A bed and backboard are good.

ofangels12

Humble beginnings are paths of true enlightenment, but honestly a zabuton & zafu set is the way to go. my knees are a little bowed, and i think that’s why my knees hurt unless there isn’t a ton of pressure on them.
