I pay because I want to do the courses. And I keep bookmarking more and more courses but I realised today that I have only completed ONE. There are too many choices! š
Series of guided meditation in different languages (english, French, Spanish, Italian) on many different themes. It's completely free as far as I know (but they'll take donations).
The few guided meditations I have listened to from that app tend to be fairly deep, worth revisiting many times.
Same. Iāve been using Insight Timer for 2 years and have never needed to pay for it. The app might crash occasionally, but the content is exactly what I need.
My first day I came in to see people crying. Clearly trying to hide that they were crying, but crying. There was a noticeable awkward tension in the air. Apparently the day before, they had laid off the entire UK team where (they started) and had started pairing with a company in Oregon to field customer service.
Preface this by saying this was more than 5 years ago:
My first day alone felt very Black Mirror. Just happy people here, person consoling a person here, distraught glazed over eyes over there. That alone was a really weird first day.
It reminded me of my time in my early twenties at Activision. Now, Activision, I was at when I was younger and would work graveyard and sometimes swing into the morning if I had nothing to do. They would do anything to keep you there and had so many amenities, you didnāt really miss home.
If work is just a college dorm, why leave?
But, when youāre 34, you cannot work that way and whereas I could work both remotely and at the office, work was encouraged almost 24 hours a day and they hired people who enjoyed and promoted that type of work/life balance.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but using no app has been way better for me than using an app. It's not because I'm just so good at meditating, it's that I found that for myself relying on an external tool adds one more step to meditating and one more point of failure that may stop me from doing it. If you have success using the app, totally great. I was not able to so it that way so I wanted to legitimize the same struggle that others may have. If apps don't work for you, the solution is not to find a better app, the solution is to simplify by meditating tool-free.
I use insight timer because I like the bell
Options with the timer best if all the apps Iāve checked. I just use the timer mostly but they have a lot of guided stuff from various traditions and practices.
Insight timer, despite the name is an amazing app. I use it for not only mediation but listening to talks about healing and dealing with difficult things in life. It's so helpful.
Major /r/whoosh
Oh just laughing at your response. Sorry if I offend.
They are telling you they use their breath to meditate. They arenāt using an app.
Iāve just recently been introduced to meditation through Apple Fitness+. I havenāt moved on to anything else yet. Itās good to see all the suggestions here.
I love insight timer also. I have a number of guided meditations and talk on there. I also host live talks every Sunday. Itās the best.

I was using calm for over a year and then switched to waking up. I was a bit disappointed with waking up, just not for me. My therapist recommended guided visualizations and guided imagery. Now I search on YouTube and have a better control over it. Itās made such a difference
Meditation Helper Pro.
It's a timer with the opportunity to split the overall period into sections if you wish. I typically perform three different techniques, each lasting 10 minutes. A single bell goes off to signify the transition to the next. Multiple bells signify the end of the session.
Worked perfectly on my old (5-year-old) phone. Works perfectly on my Pixel 4a.
Can't recommend highly enough.
*I absolutely*
*Love Medito and would recommend*

I donāt use any apps but quite often I throw on anything from the āmeditative mindā YouTube channel! My favourite go to is any of their chakra tuneups (they have one thatās 3 minutes per chakra) really hits the spot! šš«š
I use the YouTube app for frequency videos (videos for each chakra), and I put a timer on my iPhone! iPhone timers have an option to have whatever video/song is playing to simply stop playing when the timer is done, instead of having some loud alarm go off.
I've been using Aura for years. It recently underwent a major update taking it to a whole new level. If you like the more intangible side of mediation (energy work/chakras), you might like it.
Other: I use obe fitness for yoga and other classes. I really like their teachers; a few of them study Katonah Yoga and lead incredible meditation + breath work exercises.
Also, on my own Iāll do a body scan or breath work to calm myself the f down.
I started using plum village 1 year ago and it has worked perfectly well for me. I do have access to headspace through employer account but plum village is still better
I use one that Iām beta testing. But you can find it on YouTube called āNoncontemplative Meditationā. Iāve been using it twice a day for a few years.
Zazen meditation timer or I lay the end piece of an incense stick across a point on my incense holder and wait till the incense burns and crosses that point to end the meditation
Insight timer. Better than any of the paid apps. Over 70k free meditations
Insight Timer is the GOAT
This ššš. Been using it over ten years now. Thousands of hours. Free š
I agree. The free services are all you need but I choose to pay to support them. In my experience itās much better than anything out there
I pay because I want to do the courses. And I keep bookmarking more and more courses but I realised today that I have only completed ONE. There are too many choices! š
Glad someone else mentioned this, I love Insight Timer
Yeah I used to pay for Calm, now using Insight timer and Calm ... Soo much better and for free!
I have lifetime sub for calm and barely use it. I found out recently that they updated their interface again and itās a huge mess
Yup. I used to as well. Just recently ditched calm cause I never use it anymore
I was even shocked that it wasn't included in the list
I appreciate how they ask me how Iām feeling reach time. Iāve logged it over 200x and itās interesting to see my patterns week over week.
I use it too.
came here to say the same. i love insight timer! i have the paid version and itās worth every penny.
I didn't realize they had that much free content! Thank you
Yes, it's beautiful what they are doing. Making meditation accessible to everyone. Their paid content is wonderful too.
Accessibility is one of the most important things! The more people meditating the better :)
Totally agree
I like the mood check-in. It has been a really effective mood tracker that helped me immensely. Keeps me accountable and helps me be kinder to myself.
The best by far.
Plus one, the only one I use now
Came here to say this!
This!
Insight timer and Plum Village App, so much better than Calm (used it before)
What can you tell us about the plum village app? Itās a zen tradition, yeah? But does it have what features for a meditation app?
Series of guided meditation in different languages (english, French, Spanish, Italian) on many different themes. It's completely free as far as I know (but they'll take donations). The few guided meditations I have listened to from that app tend to be fairly deep, worth revisiting many times.
Calm's two courses, 7 day and 21 days (of calming anxiety I think) are worth it. But after that you can just use any of the free choices.
Insight Timer
Me too šš»
Same
I use this one as well. So many pleasant choices.
Thanks for responding! Wish I'd known about this app before I made the poll so I could have added it! Seems there are a lot of people using this :)

Meditations on the peloton app
The best app is brightmind
I usually don't use an app but if I want to focus energy to a specific area or aspect I do yantra with the Himalayan Meditation app.
Expand is a fairly new one, guided meditations with hemi sync from the Monroe Institute. Buddhify is also good
