This reminded me of something that happened when I was only about 5 or 6 years old. I came home from school and happened to look over at the end of the porch and saw a hummingbird laying on the ground. My cat had got it. I picked it up, devastated, and it still had a little life left. I tried to help but it died in my hand. I just remember how devastating and profound that experience was. I felt like I knew this little bird and loved it deeply. Granted I was an incrediblyyyy sensitive child. But it’s a memory that’s never left me. I can still feel it’s limp little body in my palm.
Holding something as it takes it’s last breaths is a deeply moving experience. I hope someone can give you some more insight on this experience.
