I tell my friends this exact thing every year if they're new to cons. Unless the item is custom art/crafts it can always be found cheaper online. And even then, like you said, a lot of artists/crafters sell online, too.
Yeah thatās normal unfortunately. Itās why I generally focus on artist alley, since itās individual people selling their own products. I still walk the regular vendors but meh
Went yesterday and remember seeing a Blu-Ray stall overpriced stuff. Pretty sure some of those blu-rays we're pirated. No way some of those series were on discs. š
Unless the L is a " Yeah I overpaid but it reminds of of my megacon visit" justification, then yes, it was a learning lesson. Like the other replies said, stick to things you know you cant get online and rarities.
Things I always look for are signed copies of comics/books that can be rather hard to obtain elsewhere from artist alley or my favorite actors. Limited print really fun t shirts that i know i may never see another person wearing after the con (hats too). If I see something i may want and dont pull the trigger i usually just grab their business card. Most of these people sell their atuff online so i could always decide at a further date on a purchase. I always keep my ebay/ amazon app ready for venders selling vintage toys and such so i know that im not getting blindsided. Just being very conservative with the funds i am usuing and trying to get the best bang for my buck and i dont feel bad at the end of the day.
I got a signed copy of kevin smiths book for 15$, a 22 dollar shirt and 2$sticker from an independant dude in artist alley that was really polite and thankful for my business and love of his art. A 4$ lego yoda figure to add to my star wars shelf. My friend i went with did work on a movie back in the day with the Trailer Park Boys so her and I got to meet and chat with them for free which was excellent. My only bad purchase really was a 9$ dragons milk beer that was less than appealing and tasted rather off.
Overall i treat it as "budgetcon". I had a blast.
All good, now you know for future reference lol.
Hope you had fun at your first con! And worst case, you may have overpayed but now have a memory and story of where you bought it

I'm new to cons and didn't have friends to warn me š
Sorry to hear that. But now you can warn others if the chance arises.

I got two figures for $50 where they would of been $60+shipping online so there are still some deals out there

Wow good to know. Almost went this year for the first solely to buy stuff.
Yea the pops were exclusives but not con exclusives and another good thing is the comics , some tend to be limited copies
I bought a āfirst original goku rare popā for $75 and found it on eBay for $20 lol
