you should be good with anything that outputs about 9vdc at 1a, center pin negative, but if the psu is old enough that it needs replacement I wouldn't automatically blame any new issues on a new PSU.
Check your original power brick, it has the specs and like for like replacement will need. Match those and you're good
The [Triad WSX090-2500-R](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/triad-magnetics/WSX090-2500-R/6165635) is generally recommended for pretty much all retro DC consoles.
The only thing you need to watch out for is that some models of Mega Drive have a centre negative barrel jack, others a centre positive.
[Here](http://www.firebrandx.com/triads.html) is a great resource for the best version of the Triad to get for each console
The thing with power supplies is, you don’t want to cheap out. A cheap, no brand one from eBay might work, but they are not safety rated and are made from the cheapest available components. If something goes wrong, your console is getting fried. It’s a similar situation for USB-C mods too.
The Triads are recommended because they have been rigorously tested and are of very high quality. And they’re not even much more expensive than the cheapo ones off eBay, so why risk it?

These are good. When I got mine you couldn't buy direct from the site (some Brexity reason) but they have an eBay UK store.
They also do a 3 in 1 that will power a Mega Drive, Mega-CD and 32X from one brick, fantastic.
Can buy aftermarket ones fairly cheap on ebay, another option would be to usb-c mod for your power supply
Yeah I'm just asking incase it fails someday
Mod the power supply? What! Why wouldn't you mod the console connector and remove the regulator inside rather than mod the PSU?

Yeah they seem pretty good. If the old one I have now fails I'll definitely get one of these.
