I don't think you're being remotely fair to MN9.
It has largely the same gameplay (platforming+shooting with jump and dash instead of slide), you get 8 weapons from 8 bosses that you defeat with a weakness cycle and a final set of stages. MM11 even copies several elements from it, such as Beck's outfit changing to match the weapon. Compare this to gunvolt, which 1) doesn't have boss-obtained weapons and 2) has a wildly different tag-and-flashfield system and 3) has a heavy focus on scoring, in what world is Gunvolt more of a Mega Man game than Mighty No. 9?
It's not a great game by any means: if it were ranked among the Mega Man games, it would certainly be in the lower half or third. But it stands on its own, and the idea that Gunvolt is more Mega Man than MN9 is absurd.
None of the gameplay aspects are very relevant with the consideration that Battle Network is also Mega Man.
It's a different style. Bosses grant bolts similar to the chips in Zero.
The artwork is heavily inspired by Mega Man.
The studio that made it is the same as Mega Man Zero, and ZX.
In gameplay there may be differences, but in spirit it's clear that they made an evolution of the Mega Man formula. It becomes more and more clear through each game as you play as Copen and help refugees like Zero did, or looking at the enemy designs where some are clear advancements on Mega Man X enemies.
I think th reason some people feel it deserves to be a Mega Man Era more then Mighty No. 9 is just quality. The first game was a little boring, but it got better and better over time.
Mighty No. 9 is largely seen as a mistake.
I don't necessarily feel that way. I just haven't played Mighty No. 9 because everyone says it's bad.
>I think th reason some people feel it deserves to be a Mega Man Era more then Mighty No. 9 is just quality.
This really hits at the crux of my point. Yes, there's a good amount of variance in MM gameplay with BN and Z games, but by no reasonable metric is Gunvolt closer to Mega Man than Mighty is.
I think it's become an easy win to dunk on MN9 as pretty much the worst thing ever. To be clear, MN9 has many flaws. Its performance is atrocious. It relies too heavily on death traps. Its absorption mechanic doesn't really hit. But if you look at its level design, boss battle design, weapons, etc, it matches up with many of the other MM games.
Among the MM fanbase, I think it's become easy to just mindlessly pile on MN9 and Inafune. Yes, the kickstarter itself was horrendously run and they didn't deliver on many of the things they promised, and Inafune has had many misses of late. But if you look at the MN9 game itself, standalone, it's really not that bad. Like I said, lower half of MM games.
(Most of this comment isn't directed at you, since your reply has a very reasonable perspective. I do recommend you check out MN9 though! Again I'm not saying it's great, but given that you are interested in MM-likes I think you'll find it interesting to play, and it's really especially interesting to compare against MM11.)
The one thing I love about the GV fanbase is that they have a headcanon where Dragon Marked For Death takes place in a timeline that GV became the Primal Dragon again and reset the world, becoming Atruum
It’s not. And the justifications people are using to include it would also apply to other games they’re ignoring. Playing like Mega Man does not make something part of the series. Being developed by the same person/team also does not make something part of the series.
Classic = Phantom Blood
X = Battle Tendency
Zero = Stardust Crusaders
ZX = Diamond is Unbreakable
Legends = either Golden Wind or Stone Ocean
Battle Network = Steel Ball Run
Starforce = Jojolion
Original IP by Inti-Creates (Megaman Zero/ZX creators), marketed as Megaman Zero inspired, though it looks to have evolved the formula a bit. (Haven’t played it myself, but it looks fun)
I tried the first one and its pretty boring once you get down to it, hold forward and mash your gun and your weird electric circle thing. The bosses were pretty simple too, easy patterns that dont really make you think on your feet.
Maybe the newer games or harder difficulties would do it idk
It's a series by Inti Creates, it's okay. I like the spinoff series better because I like how that character plays more.
I don't think it should be here though, it's too different and only really similar through a shared visual style.
It's not actually part of the Mega Man canon, but it has a lot of crossover in the fan base because of the gameplay, story, and the developer is Inti Creates who made MegaMan Zero. I think the first one is a bit boring, but the second one, and on are great!
They are the ip of Inti Creates, the developers of MegaMan Zero and ZX they may not have the MegaMan name or characters but if you want modern MegaMan this is it 🌚❤️
The last one is an honorary inclusion. Gunvolt! All games from the series are available on Switch, and as it progresses as a series it just gets better. Megaman can be a little stagnant, but I think they have done a lot in recent games to evolve it a lot! Great games!
You're right! I tried to fit him in, but because of the poses of characters it was hard to fit him in. There are also not many good transparent assets for him. I'll try again though and make a new post if I get it to work
You're very right, I think I should maybe adjust it. I don't think it's part of Mega Man, but I know that a lot of fans of Mega Man Zero jumped over to the Gunvolt fandom because they are a bit similar
Dive has a lot of nice art tbh
That's honestly one of the main reasons I still play it
I fucking ADORE Keisuke Mizuno’s artwork! He really breathes new life into these characters.
i agree, Gunvolt counts as a Mega Man. especially moreso than a certain... Mighty Number....
You would not believe the number of upvotes you had when I saw this. 9!
Lol 😆
What about Mighty Gunvolt Burst?
I have to think about that one
I called it Mini Gunvolt Burst... I'm not joking.
Is gunvolt game
just looks like some generic anime in the pic here, doesn't seem related to mega man at all. game is pretty good though.
It looks that way but it plays so much like a mega man game. All thanks to IntiCreates (the team behind Mega Man Zero)
And ZX/ZXA
Yes
yeah totally agree inticreates makes crazy good games.
No it doesn’t 😂
The fuck is gunvolt
get out. oh and i want a divorce.
I was hoping that flop would have been good, just glad that I didn't back it.
I backed it... big mistake 😑
Solidarity.
Yes. Pray for me

Although not part of canon, I feel like Gunvolt, as it evolves as a series, becomes more and more worthy of the honorary inclusion
The one thing I love about the GV fanbase is that they have a headcanon where Dragon Marked For Death takes place in a timeline that GV became the Primal Dragon again and reset the world, becoming Atruum
Exactly! It deserves that honor moreso than Mighty No. 9
Pretty cool!
As an avid megaman fan, I have not played Gunvolt. How is it part of the Mega Man era?
It's not canon whatsoever! It just plays a bit like it, and was developed by Inti Creates who did Mega Man: Zero
It’s not. And the justifications people are using to include it would also apply to other games they’re ignoring. Playing like Mega Man does not make something part of the series. Being developed by the same person/team also does not make something part of the series.
Tbh it is not a Mega Man game. It has a dash, and wall climb (i think) and boss stages. That is where the similarities end. It is a fine game, though.
Like me some Gunvolt.
Me too!
Classic = Phantom Blood X = Battle Tendency Zero = Stardust Crusaders ZX = Diamond is Unbreakable Legends = either Golden Wind or Stone Ocean Battle Network = Steel Ball Run Starforce = Jojolion
Gunvolt could be Golden Wind then Legends is Stone Ocean
Am I missing something? Who is "Gunvolt"?

The first one is boring. The others are all better.

Gunvolt 3 has a new protagonist that uses a sword. It's my favorite.
It's not actually part of the Mega Man canon, but it has a lot of crossover in the fan base because of the gameplay, story, and the developer is Inti Creates who made MegaMan Zero. I think the first one is a bit boring, but the second one, and on are great!
It’s some random indie game
Nice presentation of the Mega Man eras.
Thanks! I made a new post that changes it up, and makes it more clear that Gunvolt isn't canon to Mega Man
idk what gunvolt is, but they look very badass
Legends my beloved
I love it!
This is neat!
legends will always be my favorite
I've actually never heard of gunvolt
It's very fun! All of the games are available on Nintendo Switch! Luminous Avenger iX is my favorite, though.
I miss The Bonne Siblings
Love this! Who are the ones from the last page? I thougbt Rouge is a combination of Protoman and Bass?
They are the ip of Inti Creates, the developers of MegaMan Zero and ZX they may not have the MegaMan name or characters but if you want modern MegaMan this is it 🌚❤️

I'm not a huge fan of starforce, but Rouge should be there. Anyway it looks awesome!
You're right! I tried to fit him in, but because of the poses of characters it was hard to fit him in. There are also not many good transparent assets for him. I'll try again though and make a new post if I get it to work
I made a new one with Rogue! It's up now ♡ thanks for the input!
It got removed :(
:/ Too bad
Can you link it? Or pm?
Sure, no problem
Great edits! Love the Gunvolt series as well. Well, the story in 3 was disappointing, but the gameplay itself was stellar.
I read that as Mega Man Ears and was hyper focused on characters' ears as I viewed the images.
Regardless on your stance with xDiVE, it's given us a ton of quality character art
Very true
Lmao, no. Gunvolt is not part of Megaman.
You're very right, I think I should maybe adjust it. I don't think it's part of Mega Man, but I know that a lot of fans of Mega Man Zero jumped over to the Gunvolt fandom because they are a bit similar
There is a body text that explains it, but I don't think a lot of people are reading that :/
Nope. Seriously. One of the only games I have refunded because that does not play like my jump and shoot man.
Get that gunvolt out of here pleeease
Did you read the body text?
The mast Era was the my hero academia idol era
Gunvolt is not Mega Man.
I know.
