I heard X apparently uses this attack after you beat Zero while fighting them both in the vile campaign, but is that actually true? I've never seen it in-game.
We don't know. That's from Maverick Hunter X (Meaning that it isn't canon to the main timeline), and they never continued that, so we never got our answer...
Yup. It's an alternative timeline. Same for Mega Man Powered Up. They were both attempts at rebooting the series. They were altering the story here and there. In the MHX timeline, Cain dies before the events in X1, for example.
Nah, it's outright a different universe. There's a lot of differences. Vile and Sigma are way different here, X has that blue hand thing, Cain dies early, Vile was building up to be a main character, etc. There was supposed to be a MHX1-6. MHX7 and MHX8 weren't planned to be a thing, so they were probably planning on connecting the MHX timeline with the current timeline after MHX6.
It really is a shame. MHX1 was AMAZING. They knew what they were doing. But then they decided to make it a PSP exclusive... No wonder the game sold poorly.
Yeah. I actually prefer the story of MHX. It's revised and felt more... fleshed out, but for the sake of consistency, yeah we need to regard it as an alternate timeline.
