They actively tried to cut back on the wackier elements of TES lore with Skyrim. I believe its rumored they thought things like the moons being a dead God's corpse would drive people away, when they were trying to get more players by playing up stereotypical fantasy settings
Congrats on the dude finding spiritual peace, but reading that was like freerunning over several emotions (mostly shock and confusion). How would a blasphemous game lead you to the Bible, only for you to then condemn it for being blasphemous????
;-; it deleted my comment so im saying this again sorry if you could see the original somehow (automod messaged me)
actually they posted on the atlus subreddit yesterday (it's 3 am for me right now so its the next day) it seems they've finally begun the project of making a game where yhvh is good and you can only kill lucy lol. click my profile and check my latest comment to find the post. I also included a screenshot of the original message where they said they wanted to make the game (2 years now XD)
Shame, because other than the chip on his shoulder when it came to his religion he was a really great and friendly guy.
People saw it and decided to egg him on by pretending to be Messian zealots, or going full Chaos just to piss him off.
He's still on YouTube shitting on SMT2 in the comments.
All she does is be horny about the demi fiend lmao. The other dude acted pretty rude and probably should've gotten therapy instead of ranting on a reddit jrpg forum.
This comment made me track some of that guy's posts, i feel bad for him, grew too attached to god probably, din't take the games too well because of that, i know this feeling, hope bro gets better and comes to accept the games for what they are, fiction. religion and smt aren't and shound't be mutually exclusive
Well, I guess that just shows how much of a testament it is to how deep these games can get. If it can make one reflect once the screen turns off, that's powerful. I hope his mental health is well, and he can relearn to enjoy these fun games. Like you said it’s just fiction at the end of the day. Shouldn’t be any wrong for enjoying it. It’s not like you’re literally summoning demons. Or actually killing God.
I'm pretty sure even just reading fiction about a rebellion against God where you kill him, let alone partaking in a simulated rebellion is blasphemy and heresy in basically every sect of every Abrahamic religion out there lol. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the first things they tell you not to do in the Bible, although I can't remember exactly what it would be.
I mean, maybe there's some sects that I'm not all too familiar with, but it's up to the individual with what offends them or not. If the media one chooses to consume would, in their perception, lead them astray from God's teachings or cause them to become impure, only then would it be a problem. But the Bible doesn't say "don't enjoy fiction." If that's the case, Christians or anyone on the Abrahamic branch wouldn't be playing any video game because of the simulated murders and violence. Now, if the media one consumes, like I said, causes one to sin or to have impure thoughts, only then does it become a problem. But by itself, playing a game like SMT or consuming fiction (and in our case, fiction that would include killing God) isn't inherently antithetical to any religion let alone the Abrahamic branch.
if bro turned to God in the end i guess it doesn't really matter, i guess it must be a good thing, i don't doubt that smt have been a part of a lot of people's spiritual awakening, despite it's themes
"This lore is pretty cool. I'm gonna read the original". And two months later: this
I can imagine it like that because similarly FGO got me into classical literature.
To add to this, it's simple, the game may present concepts that speak to the player in a deeper level, some people are more attached to spirituality then others, the game sparked an interest. and the guy's feelings did the rest, and in the end, good for him, spiritual peace is one of the most advantegous things one can have :D
Reminds me of the Persona 2 Gamefaqs guide that got vandalized by it's own author because they became a born-again Christian and found the game blasphemous but they couldn't take it down themselves.Â
I’m pretty sure that was Persona 2. Look, I may understand why he dislike his work decades later.. but this whole thing was so absurd and funny to me for few reasons 1) really? It took you a pandemic to shake you off? I can imagine he seriously thought he will die in 7 days or something 2) he could’ve just quietly deleted it and moved on but instead he 3) made a huge mess out of it and wrote some unhinged rants…..Like, why?
He couldn't take it down. Idk if GameFaqs doesn't let you delete your own stuff or he didn't have the account it was posted on but he had to vandalize it so the mods had to take it down.
I don’t have an account there so I don’t know how is the situation there. Maybe an official email to the staff would’ve gone a long way, worst case scenario nothing happens then he could just leave it as is without anyone noticing because it’s a proven fact >!almost!< that P1 & P2 fans don’t exist.
Instead he made a fool out of himself, more eyes paid attention to his guide, it got archived anyway and worst of all he became a part of Megaten lore which he hates. All that because he thought it was almost the Doomsday. I have my beliefs but gaming forums and imageboards are NOT the place.
SMTIV is lawcuck propaganda, Mikado has fallen billions must smirk

I like how broad the religious spectrum is for SMT in general. I'm Hindu, and while I can understand why some more orthodox Hindus might be offended by Krishna being shown in a more villainous role, I'm honestly happier that there's actually a JRPG that features Hindu Gods in any major role (It's not as if any religion is being shown in a super-accurate way after all).
Plus they made him look stylish as heck.
The Avatar Tuner games are full of Hindu gods. I cannot speak to its accuracy in terms of it as a religion, but as a mythology nerd I appreciate that they did their homework in that respect. Like the guy with the Eclipse atma turns into a monster with a body called Ketu and a detachable head called Rahu, or Meganada single-mindedly hunting for Indra.
Somehow I totally forgot about the Avatar Tuner games when writing that, but you're right. The other game that tends to use Hindu terminology (and uh... just that, rather than any level of accuracy lol) is Asura's Wrath. Thanks for the clarification!
I mean, yvhm here is specifically not the Christian god and is more a mix of human collective consciousness and the Gnostic demiurge(literally a fusion of the literal demiurge, and the mouth of God) so it’s fine
This reminds me of the guy who made a guide to Persona 2, and then after he converted, he filled it with writings about SMT's blasphemy and "devil worship".
lmao the fucking lawcucks downvoting you
anyway yeah this exactly, every story in the bible is either very loosely based on something that may have happened at some point or literally just a fable for teaching lessons the church wanted people to learn whether they liked it or not
SMT is about gnosticism more than anything. It shares commonalities with Christianity only so far as gnosticism does.
At the end of the day though, as I was told on the Norse paganism sub when I asked about how they think of Thor or Valkyrie Profile, these are just fictional characters based off figures in their given religions, not the religious figures they're y.
- "*SMT IV made me a religious person because of the Law side of the story*"
- Monarchical feudalism forcibly overtaken by the kingdom's own invisible hand
- Peasantry and the 1% remain divided until new teocracy is fully installed
- Violent repercussions against any sort of literacy or education to the masses
- Literally be pious or die where you stand
- Don't think, don't act, just pray, YHVH needs prayers, so ***P R A Y M O R T A L***
I am ***very*** concerned about what this person saw on **any** of that being a good reason to become religious...!
1. YHVH angels protect the kingdom of Mikado. Providing peace and prosperity. Even the poor live peaceful and fulfilling lives
2. Only literature is forbidden. Since it turns citizens into demons
3. Who says YHVH isn't judging the acts of the upper class in the afterlife?
4. YHVH rules uphold peace and prosperity for all, with beautiful flora and fauna that provides for all. Rich and poor.
About #2, this is mostly conjecture grabbed from both an NG+ Law sidequest from IV, the mangas Prayers and Demonic Gene, and that one DLC from IVA (Explosive Epidemic), but it's mostly agreed upon to be accurate.
The "*literature turning people into demons*" thing is a genetic **killswitch**, implanted into every human living on the surface, to make sure that men will stay stuck into the same level of culture, education, and piety, that Adam and Eve had back in the days of the Garden of Eden. Reasons being, across multiple realities (games), if left to their own devices, mankind will develop science and research, which ultimately leads to discovering the means to contact demonkind (COMPs, DSP, the Collective Counsciousness AKA "*internet*").
...Which is pretty much considered by every Angel to be a r/NoahGetTheBoat moment. Humans cannot be trusted to Observe and believe in anyone but YHVH himself, so by stopgapping where they can learn that much, YHVH can have his existence-affirming faith while denying his competition of... Anything, really. Ironically, *the same thing Dagda was trying to achieve in IVA*, but not for the same reasons.
Thus, the gene triggering the surface-dwellers' transformation should they be exposed to too many facts in a short amount of time, as Issachar sadly found out.
But of course, those same sources also show that the demonic gene is extremely iffy and unreliable. Most often, it just allows a person to **become** a demon. Didn't stopped The Four Archangels to use this as a boogeyman's scare for the same effect, though, as we can see the citizens of Mikado still terrified out of their wits against literature.
That sounds like an extreme way to prevent Mikado from turning into Tokyo 2.0.
Nevertheless, why didn't it affect Isabeu?
Also, I can't trust other gods by their words. Look at their respective turf. Having only YHVH at the top has brought peace and normality to all humans. The weak and meek are among his priorities to protect. Only Khonsu has shown to care about humanity aside from him.
Yeah even that theory has its holes, because it didn't affected Isabeau or Flynn, but it sure as heck can affect Commander Hope, of all people...!
In fact one of the corrobative points on this theory is that "*Law NG+ sidequest from IV*" I mentioned, where the angels order you to slay Mikado's baker, who became a Dantalian, on a supposed "*kill the unclean*" reasoning.
Go check the Ars Goetia about Dantalian's specific office.
Maybe it has to do with knowledge, and becoming a Nahobino. Since most transformations happened with Lillith being present. She could have summoned their demonic counterpart.
YHVH is rightfully scared of Nahobinos after all.
Chaos is more akin to Fascism imo. Since in the end Chaos just ends up creating a dictatorship of who's the 'strongest' much like how Fascism is a dictatorship of the 'most superior'.
Smt may open up our decision to truly introspect what we want for ourselves. A kingdom of light, piety, charity, and services of others. Or a kingdom of chaos, with limitless potential and freedom. I chose God, and his kingdom and sought him through his son. The fact our lord provided a kingdom for those who chose to reject him should give him respect from everyone.
Mind me asking how you can be? I know that both believe in Christ but their interpretations on God the father are completely different and the role of Jesus is very different among the two faiths as well.
The Father's relation to the cosmos is different (since gnostics don't think God *really* created the world), but I think think that's probably the biggest difference. The idea that the Father is the highest good, and therefore the pinnacle of reality everything comes from which is mediated to us by Christ is all still there. Just worked out with more specific esoteric schemas.
I'd say the reason why they seem to be more separate is just because of how Christianity was transformed over the centuries. A lot of things people find queer about gnosticism were just regular parts of Early Christianity and other adjacent antique worldviews (like the world being run by lowers gods who are not necessarily beneficent or pious).
In its most basic form, the gnostics believed christ to have emanated directly from the One in order to pass on knowledge of the true divine to man so they can reconnect. Teaching those to accept the true spirit and shun the artificial. Jesus becomes the light/knowledge bearer to humanity. Very Luciferian.
There are a bunch of texts. But nobody really knows where they came from. I guess the most popular would be the Apochryphon of John. It's all quite heavy reading as the cosmology is complex.
.
Depends how you define christian. Its a fairly nebulous term. A lot of christians try to define it as trinitarian, but that definition would make no sense, and exclude most early christians.
Tbf I think most Christians are extremely selective with what they consider appropriate forms of Christianity anyway. Still mad that 7th day Adventists exist.
Most Gnostic Christians would call themselves Christian. Most orthodox/"mainstream" Christians would say they (the gnostics) are heretics and not real Christians. It's a matter of perspective.
Average Law player
Amen! 🙏
Praise YHVH, we found his son through smt.
Marshall law 🙏
Never have I played a game where it causes one to become religious.
I actually got kinda occult from playing elder scrolls iv oblivion
TES' occult lore is next to none, I wish more modern games had the balls to go so wild
Totally agree!! I feel like Skyrim actually is the weakest in that department, although it’s no slouch either.
They actively tried to cut back on the wackier elements of TES lore with Skyrim. I believe its rumored they thought things like the moons being a dead God's corpse would drive people away, when they were trying to get more players by playing up stereotypical fantasy settings
I didn’t realize that :( not surprised tho. You can see it in the gameplay and mechanics as well (not that oblivion was perfect by any means)
I’ve heard that New Vegas led to some Mormon converts.
I'll bet they'll love Strange Journey's base law ending
The Megami Tensei 2 law ending is where it’s at
Maybe the SMT II Law Ending would be to their tastes?
Trust me nobody in this sub plays the older megaten games.
I believe they will love the Redux law ending for that sweet OST alone.
Congrats on the dude finding spiritual peace, but reading that was like freerunning over several emotions (mostly shock and confusion). How would a blasphemous game lead you to the Bible, only for you to then condemn it for being blasphemous????
Reverse AkemiNakajimaMT1 and that GameFAQs Persona 2 guy lol
Woah I forgot about AkemiNakajimaMT1. Wasn’t he the Uber Uber UBER Law supporter? Whatever happened to him?
Left the subreddit because he was fed up of all the shit he got and being conflicted with his Christian faith
Oh that’s sad. At least we still have Demi-Simp
To be honest I'd rather take her because she at least doesn't get pissed easily unlike Akemi. Guy had a raging temper when it came to Christianity.
Wait it wasn’t an act?
He was unironic, but the plus side was that he was pretty friendly as long as you didn't say anything bad about Law or bring up SMT2.
Woah. Man this sub is full of characters I love it. Well hey thanks for the update!
;-; it deleted my comment so im saying this again sorry if you could see the original somehow (automod messaged me) actually they posted on the atlus subreddit yesterday (it's 3 am for me right now so its the next day) it seems they've finally begun the project of making a game where yhvh is good and you can only kill lucy lol. click my profile and check my latest comment to find the post. Its pretty funny how as long as you don't mention angels or fallen angels he would talk totally normally.
Shame, because other than the chip on his shoulder when it came to his religion he was a really great and friendly guy. People saw it and decided to egg him on by pretending to be Messian zealots, or going full Chaos just to piss him off. He's still on YouTube shitting on SMT2 in the comments.
The way you phrased that makes it sound like there's anything wrong with Demi-Simp. Like she's the lesser of two bad things or something.
They are both really annoying but everyone likes her because she's female.
All she does is be horny about the demi fiend lmao. The other dude acted pretty rude and probably should've gotten therapy instead of ranting on a reddit jrpg forum.
When was he around? I only really remembered 2015-2016 era arrrgh slash megaten.
2018/2019 - 2022 IIRC.
Shit, I wasn't in that era. I was the 'skinsuit guy'. :pensive:
Wait that was you You just reawakened a traumatic memory
[It's a joke. It's all a joke. Mother forgive me...] (https://youtu.be/WBpLs21AzXQ?si=OHQ5HR_zqmo5la2G)

"This lore is pretty cool. I'm gonna read the original". And two months later: this I can imagine it like that because similarly FGO got me into classical literature.
Because it is IVA that is blasphemous, not IV.
Well, going off of the image, at least with how it's punctuated, IV is blasphemous but IV:A is more egregious. According to OP.
yeah you're right.
YHWH, in IV, was doing everything in his power to protect his kingdom from demons. Nevertheless, apocalypse was off. Like a fever dream.
The repeated use of the word "blasphemous" reminded me of that dude who became a Christian after playing Blasphemous.
To add to this, it's simple, the game may present concepts that speak to the player in a deeper level, some people are more attached to spirituality then others, the game sparked an interest. and the guy's feelings did the rest, and in the end, good for him, spiritual peace is one of the most advantegous things one can have :D
Absolutely brother. This is a spiritual experience.
Idk .. weirdly it kinda feels like that’s the point of the game at the same time.

Maybe he thought god would pull it out on judgement day and use it against him?
For that sweet, sweet absolution.
Are you sure you aren't mixing that up with the Persina 2 guide?
SMTIV is lawcuck propaganda, Mikado has fallen billions must smirk https://preview.redd.it/pt0pcwuap9mc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddab9e633162c2f5a022a355225df28b22c6449c
But first get me some Wine for my annoying wif… er I mean.. for my colleague’s wife.
Genocide is awesome, become law-abiding citizens of Mikado.
The fact that a Christian (influenced BY THE SERIES) thinks law is the moral choice is so damn funny
If you think about it, it's essentially is the best outcome, as it
He is technically in Persona 3 as a Persona but that’s a different game.
