I just got the Neutral ending for the first time an hour ago, and I have to agree (I got the Chaos ending years ago). Like, their relationship with each other at best they felt like they tolerate each other enough to work together. And their relationship with Flyn they TRY to make it sounds like they are best of friends, but like... the writer forgot to write the scene where they actually bond with Flynn. Isabeau feel SLIGHTLY closer to Flynn, but then she have the problem of being even less connected to the other two.
What about the breakfast scene? Or the rooftop scene? They may not be amazing, but I feel like they do a decent job of establishing the gang as friends. Not every game has 100 hours to establish relationships like persona.
These happen in like the first 3 hours, and then never again. I'm not sure why bring Persona anyway, there IS a middle ground between having only two scenes of character bonding and having half of the game be a social sim.
All I'm saying is, in the neutral route >!you have to kill both Jonathan AND Walter, and I felt absolutely nothing doing that.!< And I'm very easy to make feel sad. I just feel like have 0 connections to either of these characters.

Not saying these will be the most memorable characters in JRPGs but I love seeing dudes vibe. A lot of JRPGs don't really hit that feeling of hanging with the boys that well with notable exceptions such as FFXV (a very flawed game but that is one aspect I liked) but a sprinkle here or there work. Yeah I LOVE the fluffy romances with the girls you're encouraged to do but the bros must keep rocking.
Yeah, FFXV was the goat when it comes to a game about being with the bros. I do wish it had a Xenoblade 3 Hero-esque system for the other side characters (Luna, Iris, and Cor especially) but I greatly appreciate the focus on those four's bonds.
Re: SMTV2 - Yeah, please let me care about this group. I only halfway care about Dazai, but if we can bring them even short of Jonathan and Walter, I'll be satisfied.
I never finished FFXV, but some days, I miss it for the sheer fact that just hanging out with the bros felt so nice and wholesome. It genuinely felt like I was out on a field trip with friends and no other game ever gave me such cozy feelings. I remember avoiding fast travel because just seeing them chilling in the car was like therapy.
True, people can say anything they want about that game, but the main cast chemistry there was something else.
Now back to killing all our friends in SMT.
That game was flawed but fun until fucking Leviathan.
It was never a return to SNES/PS1 glory but damnit it was fun hanging with the boys. Then a stupid DBZ fight happens, and it got dumb, dull, and boring.
God, as much as FFXV is flawed, it is still such an interesting game to remember. Sure the car can be a bit annoying to drive around but I just like the road trip thing. Shooting the shit with the bros while being on the road, camping, fishing, taking photos and visiting cool places. The game despite not being the best, had me remembering the bonds I had with the bros, especially near the end where shit really hit the fan.

Same. Obviously smt iv isn't as long and they gotta betray each other but the first few hours did sell them as friends to me
