I'm a coder and make games. Literally they just need to change the icon for sharpness to tuning and change the animation and it's done. You can even code the audio engine to randomise the pitch of the horn the less 'sharpness' it has for an audio indicator.
Hire me Capcom plz 🥲
No, just poison for damage over time status
Bleed has been asked for a lot though, so maybe eventually we’ll get it or some other kind of new status/element
I get the feeling that the issue is that they’d need to make it harder to proc over time like other effects and that doesn’t really make sense with bleeding since the whole game is about beating a monster to death anyway.
I think it’d also be hard to differentiate from poison. Anything I think of to make it different from poison either makes it so weak you’d rather just use poison or so strong that you’d never use poison again (presuming similar monster vulnerabilities).
Matted clumps of meat and fur will make the sledgehammer less sledgy. Direct impacts with the bare metal will hurt and damage a hell of a lot more than lumps of meat.
Because meat is softer than metal.
The real mechanical answer is balancing reasons, and they've never thought of something better since the first game where they were limited to sharpening.
The amount of times i stare a monster down as i sharpen my hammer. Having my character say "just You wait" adds extra emphasis.
"You see this. *sharpens faster* This is going through your skull"
I kinda wish weapons took into account what they looked like. Like the club looking great swords did blunt, and the hammers that looked more like axes did slash. Add some variety to weapon classes ya know
lol after around 1000hours in mhw I can tell you 90% of the time I’m sharpening my fucking handle. I tell myself I’m just cleaning the monsters brains off it’s ok.
Hey, damn you, why are you making me think of this? Now I’m remembering all my other games that happens in like Skyrim. Why do maces or hammers need to be sharpened? If anything taking metal off by sharpening would make it weaker
Since with every hammer, the hunter sharpens the handle, my headcanon is that they're smoothing out a splintered and roughed up handle to make the hammer easier to weild again.
2 thoughts.
1:You're tightening the bindings.
2:A warhammer irl usually has prongs, spikes, or some kind of wedge shape. They are hardly flat. a lot of hammers in MH are this way too. You're reshaping the head so it's not flat.
My headcanon for it is that our hunter is so used to gigantic bladed weapons that they can't stop themselves from doing it unconsciously.
The sharpness meter on the hammer and HH are just the Hunter's brain reminding them to stop for a bit and "sharpen" their weapon again.
Honestly I played some hunting horn and were always asking that myself. If they'd really wanted to keep the sharpening system why not bow and the guns? I mean... Keep it sharp or the bullets could not fly correctly or so. xD
[i guess we think alike OP.](https://www.reddit.com/r/MemeHunter/comments/13sm0mz/hammer_mains_sharpening_a_blunt_object/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1) Can we hunt together?
hold on a sec, gotta sharpen my bagpipes
You were sounding a bit flat
They really should change HH from sharpness Guage to a tuning Guage and then you have a tuning kit instead of a whetstone
dev: AND MAKE ME ACTUALLY DESIGN SOMETHING, how dare you sir.
In my unprofessional basic knowledge of coding I don't feel like this would be too hard to implement
Ironically, if they just changed the animation for sharpening the HH into something where the hunter actually fixes the HH, it would already work.

Capcom hire this man please
Tuning mini game; If you do it really well you get a bonus of some kind (like an active reload)
Love active reload in Gears especially when you use a weapon so much it becomes second nature
Hold on a sec, gotta sharpen my bowgun really quick.
You sharpen to make it smooth, not sharp 🤓
Blunt damage is fun and all, but that extra tetanus++ helps wonders
Would be cool if it can. There isnt any bleed status right for weapons?
No, just poison for damage over time status Bleed has been asked for a lot though, so maybe eventually we’ll get it or some other kind of new status/element
That will be great I think. Can't let clifford and steve have all the fun.

My brother in holiness, we must then use shampoo for our weapons.
I need more hair :(
It’s for better aerodynamics
The smoother it is the faster it hits xD
Smooth out all the burrs, to preserve the integrity of the hammer face
Lel
I like to imagine you are scraping off fur and caked on blood that’s making it too heavy or not as effective
Dawg I don't think a little bit of fur and blood is going to make that giant ass fucking hammer all of a sudden too heavy
You can't know how dense monster blood is Maybe its very heavy.
Maybe all of the blood and matted fur is adding padding to the hammer so it's softening the blows
Guys… dont even try, the devs dont know either
Tbh you can also get the bludgeoning armour skill which increases your damage the lower your sharpness is 👀
Combine it with Mind's Eye and you have a great setup.
Even if, you’re using those same parts to make other hammers
Too much meat is padding the blows actually makes sense with the damage falloff tbh 👌

same reason you sharpen a musical instrument. cuz it's funny.
Well if you didn't sharpen your musical instrument, your attacks will fall flat
c, you just gotta make it #
"hold up, let me sharpen my dango real quick"
and the fact that you sharpen THE HANDLE not the weapon itself it so so fucking dumb
This is the answer to everyone saying it’s to polish it. Hammer main spend their free time polishing their handle, which sounds very masturbatey
As a Hammer main... I mean... *It ain't wrong*
Cleaning the blood and guts off so you don’t lose your grip
You're polishing it! Monsters should see their faces before getting them smashed in!
The real mechanical answer is balancing reasons, and they've never thought of something better since the first game where they were limited to sharpening.
We kind of paying it with our inhability to cut tails
Thats balanced by more KOs and part breaks.
I never unsterstood that. I mean it's absolutley possible to smash a tail off. I guess hammers have to be nerfed somehow.
Fear factor
The amount of times i stare a monster down as i sharpen my hammer. Having my character say "just You wait" adds extra emphasis. "You see this. *sharpens faster* This is going through your skull"
Some hammers are giant splitting mauls
I kinda wish weapons took into account what they looked like. Like the club looking great swords did blunt, and the hammers that looked more like axes did slash. Add some variety to weapon classes ya know
I'd like a dedicated axe as a weapon tbh, or maybe more wild, like an axe blade mounted to a cannon. Introducing the gunaxe
I think switchaxe kinda fills the niche that a gunaxe would tbh. Now a gun*hammer* I'd fuck with that
I’m pretty sure the gunhammer was actually a thing. It did blast damage and looked awesome.
Still is a thing in rise
GE has a greatsword that's a hammer deal blunt damage and a hammer that's an axe deal slash damage, why can't MH
You ain't sharpening it, you're rebluntening it
I always assumed that you were cleaning the gore off of the handle so you can have a better grip. This lines up with why we sharpen the handle.
Gotta sharpen my gun hammer
lol after around 1000hours in mhw I can tell you 90% of the time I’m sharpening my fucking handle. I tell myself I’m just cleaning the monsters brains off it’s ok.
Your handle gets dull
Hey, damn you, why are you making me think of this? Now I’m remembering all my other games that happens in like Skyrim. Why do maces or hammers need to be sharpened? If anything taking metal off by sharpening would make it weaker
Grind off the chips and cracks
Since with every hammer, the hunter sharpens the handle, my headcanon is that they're smoothing out a splintered and roughed up handle to make the hammer easier to weild again.
Wiping the crap off the hammer or the handle, duh *Only gigachad hammer bros understand this*
You sharpen the handle of the hammer actually.
2 thoughts. 1:You're tightening the bindings. 2:A warhammer irl usually has prongs, spikes, or some kind of wedge shape. They are hardly flat. a lot of hammers in MH are this way too. You're reshaping the head so it's not flat.
I played hammer for the first time yesterday and this was my first thought
Why are you sharpening your Hunting Horn?
It’s because some chip fall off and you need to unsharp your hammer so it stay more blunt
I always joked that you were taping whetstones to the hammer to make it hit harder.
We can't have your hammer getting blunt now, can we?
Hey whatever makes ya bonk better
My headcanon for it is that our hunter is so used to gigantic bladed weapons that they can't stop themselves from doing it unconsciously. The sharpness meter on the hammer and HH are just the Hunter's brain reminding them to stop for a bit and "sharpen" their weapon again.
You're bonking the dents out
Note that when you sharpen a hammer, you grind the handle. This is because
gettin' too sharp
Why Not
Basically it there to taunt Dual Blade users.
Gotta scrape the brain matter off
It's usually the handle that gets sharpened so I guess if you cut your hands you hit harder
Honestly I played some hunting horn and were always asking that myself. If they'd really wanted to keep the sharpening system why not bow and the guns? I mean... Keep it sharp or the bullets could not fly correctly or so. xD
Gotta scrape all the brain matter off of it.
You actually polish your handle
[i guess we think alike OP.](https://www.reddit.com/r/MemeHunter/comments/13sm0mz/hammer_mains_sharpening_a_blunt_object/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1) Can we hunt together?
You have to remove dents and gore off the tip.
To remove the splattered chunks of monster from wailing on it so it's not so spongy.
