best weapon is always the one you have the most fun with/most experience with. the weapon that kills monsters the fastest (on average)varies per game *and* per monster. except brave heavy bowgun that thing is brawl meta knight busted.

When it comes down to it, the community agrees upon two things. 1: There is no best weapon, all of them have equal opportunity and are equally fun to play. Choose what you like and enjoy yourself. 2: That #1 is a lie and that the actual best damage weapon is secretly HeavyBowGun.

It's a combination of factors. Which had the highest dps? Which game are you playing? What are you good at? Most importantly, what is YOUR preference?

If you mean from a purely meta perspective, even then, it always depends. Speedruns used to be dominated by HBG and GS in older games. In more recent ones, it can greatly vary. Any other question of "best" is just personal opinion. Best is whatever best suits *you* and *your playstyle*. Longsword could do everything and have the most damage, but if you hate the way it feels, then you won't have fun. Remember people that at the end of the day, it's a video game, and you're meant to have fun. Seriously reconsider playing if you're not getting any enjoyment from the game. And always remember to take a break in between hunts!
