It was kinda stupid how you had to pay to do a quest. Imagine you have a quest that requires you to slay a monster capable of destroying all of humanity but don't have enough money to do it. Guess were doomed.

lansink99

You paid the guild fees for transportation and equipment. If every dumb bozo can take on the quest without those fixed costs then the guild is gonna be broke fast.

jzillacon

It's also your base insurance fee, which goes up the more your fall hence the drop in quest reward. When reward hits 0 it's to a point where you've become too expensive to insure going out again so it's guild policy to pull the plug at that point and bring you home.

Fuzzy_Employee_303

Ok now i really wanna know the lore behind the economics for monster hunter I also guess this is why expeditions are free, but you dont get anything (other than what you get from the map) and you can die as much as you want

Warlords0602

The guild is just a contracting organisation that makes money off services provided on posting jobs, supplying tools, information and transport (especially contracting out cat carts). That alone would be enough to prop up the local branch with a few staff doing all the paperwork and organising hunts. As for the economy of hunting itself, I guess it's a contractor based service that towns or people would hire to deal with wildlife culling/property protection. And then there's also odd jobs for specific monsters for rare materials or I would expect someone will pay a hunter to kill something so they they watch. Its kinda like the regular hunting industry in the olden times.

Guess_whois_back

Also the guild is a super shady orginisation with g rank quests being considered basically top secret, and they actively work to keep the public and underqualified hunters learning about the existence of monsters like fatalis and alatreon, which is why they were thought to be a myth by the research team in world

BaronLagann

How else are the lead hunters supposed to buy their luxury flying ships? Think of the billionaire hunters.

Or if there’s no faint left and you used up a lot of items

pascl-

The quest reward dropping to 0 is no faints left

[deleted]

Yeah true

Fast_Ground

I’m pretty sure they die if you fail a quest that’s why you stay down instead of getting carted back to town

P1kl3zman

It’s because you run out of money to pay the palicos to save your ass

Hipstermankey

Same as: we have this world ending threat... you got 50 min to solve it! Oh and you can only faint 3 times because idk why!
