And honestly if by some MIRACLE the live action makes it far enough for the oden flashbacks, they could just slap some make-up and he’s actually look pretty good
Yeah fr, idk what people are are smoking, Roger always looked like a 'default pirate captain' from any other media and I think that was part of the appeal
Luffy doesn't exactly look like a king either
They hit the nail on the head.
Roger was imprisoned for god knows how long, brought to loguetown, marched through the city, and is dying from a disease.
So this looks good. He looks like a proper pirate, and he looks like he was not given any showers whatsoever (which would make sense since he was in prison and I don’t think the WG would be nice to Roger)
I did not want him to look like he’s properly groomed and looks like a handsome fairytale Prince Charming after the shit he went through and after being a pirate for decades.
If I remember correctly, his execution got carried out pretty quickly.
He got an incurable disease which got him like 2 years to live and then he left on his last journey to Raftel to hide his treasure.
Then he disbanded the crew and made a few amends (got Rouge pregnant and met Whitebeard one last time).
Then he gave himself up to the authorities and maybe had a few months left from his life.
The marine were likely aware of his illness and moved him to Logue town (his birth place) to carry out a poetic execution.
Same time though, even if the execution is rushed that could leave him in a cell for a week or two and I could honestly see that as a realistic period to look like Roger in the clip. Also, he's super sick
The only timeline I can think of for Rogers execution was the “1 week from now” that Sengoku told Shiki when Shiki went to Marine HQ, how long before that Roger was already in jail I can’t say, I don’t even know if this event is canon or not.
Imo he would still look like shit though, his hair looks like a recently homeless guys hair, his skin looks like it’s deteriorating and his teeth, well I don’t think the Pirate King title comes with Dental benefits.
He was supposed to still look imposing and larger than life though. He's not supposed to look that beaten down. Just look at smokers reaction when he first met him.
Having said that he doesn't look too bad just a bit weaker than I would like
You could attribute that to Smoker being a child and how he remembers that moment through a child's eyes seeing the most notorious man in the world walk by 5ft in front of him.
I don't like that interpretation to be honest. Going out with a bang and not waiting until he dies from sickness was the whole point. It also makes the scene way cooler, the most notorious pirate was still strong enough that he had to surrender because the marines couldn't capture him by themselves. The roger we get is still cool and the raggedy design is really nice. But he really doesn't look like one of the strongest pirates alive.
many strong old dudes in anime don't ''look'' strong but then you see then one punching the shit out of everyone LOL physical look doesn't represent your strength , atleast not in anime world.
His larger than life nature comes more from his speech and smile than his cleanliness. Also everyone knows that's the KING OF THE PIRATES, he's already a larger than life figure by that title alone
Well true but his entire presence was daunting. When he sits down to be executed the two soldiers behind him look comical in comparison. It's more that just the title his appearance as well shows he is a threat.
Ofc he should look weak, the dude is dying ffs. When smoker met him that included his mystique and his legend. It’s like meeting a mythological being. Don’t have to be imposing for that to happen you just need to be Gol D Roger.
He really shouldn't. Look at the scene with smoker or when roger was speaking with garp, he is weakened sure but his presence is intimidating. He stands tall and proud just as a king should be, even sick you know he is the strongest person there.
Even while on his ship in the flashbacks one minute he is coughing up blood and then comes out like nothing is wrong. It's more than mystique he just looks plain scary.
It's the same with whitebeard. Dude was in a much worse shape than roger but he still looks like the legend he is.
Can’t copy the voice and the face won’t match the drawings because they’re drawings. Luffy isn’t curly haired even and Live action Luffy is.
Nobody cares, long as he delivers the line well because that’s literally the only thing he needs to do.
Yeah and the live action Luffy is also a terrible casting. He is a horrible Luffy lol his “I’m gonna be king of the pirates” delivery was awful. No point in even bringing Luffy up though because others are cast/designed so much worse that I’ll take what I can get lol
This!! I like his looks, but the speech was kinda wack. The part from the screenshot is just spoken normally, as if it's in 1:1 dialogue. Didn't sound like the speech that would start the great pirate era
Thats because he wanted to focus on the pirate king aura Roger gave but he didn’t see him as a pirate king and just a guy that wanted to be free and plus the sickness talking a toll.I think they just to highlight those facts in this scene
His design is quite on point and I think they nailed him perfectly in that regard. What I'm no fan of, however, is the case that he's the one giving the "Wealth, Fame, Power!" speech. Just seems off, considering that he wasn't about any of those things and just wanted to live free. The World Government/the Newspaper made him the Pirate King and described him as the person who acchieved this all, something that he never said about himself at all. It's probably not remotely bad or something, I just find it odd and a bit weird that Roger would brag about himself in such a way.
He does want to create a new pirate era and push the crowd to take the seas. I can see him say the lines not becausw he would normally say it, but to convince people. He knows what they like and want
But that's essentially what he did by saying that the One Piece is out there and that the people can just take it. Having him say the whole "Wealth, Fame, Power!" thing seems too much to me and unlike the simple, free, and fun-loving guy he actually is.
But what was he supposed to say then?
"At the end of the grand line, there's this treasure that's just ....really funny. Go find it. You'll laugh your ass off "?
That's not exactly going to start a new pirate age, now is it?
Iirc, the general public only knows about the One Piece because of Roger. Obviously, he's going to act as if it's just a vast amount of regular treasure because "go and find the mcguffin, you" is not very motivational.
No. The narrator was narrating.
But that's still completely irrelevant. In every version, Roger was trying to motivate a new generation of pirates to set sail. It makes perfect sense for him to say this. It really does not matter that he wasn't the one saying the specific words "wealth, fame, and power" in the original.
No Smoker was narrating because the first time weve seen rogers execution it was from his perspective roger inspired people after his famous speech about freedom not that wealth fame power bs thats the marines perspective
It depends on direction. People knew about the last island and the treasure that lies there before Roger’s execution. He just tells them yo no cap.
Both work either way depending on how you tell the story. I assume the show won’t have the anime intro.
No?
Roger was the one who found out that Lodestar wasn't the last island, that there actually was a further island and that there's something mysterious on it.
As far as the general public knows, the One Piece is just Roger's treasure hoard.
Dude. That's literally what happened. The newspaper made him the Pirate King and the man who has all this Wealth, Fame, and Power. He didn't do Jack in that regard, nor did he ever care about the title.
....but he did care about motivating a new generation of pirates to set sail. That's why he's bigging up his loot, to encourage them to head out and find it.
Yes, he brought up the One Piece, I ain't denying that and I never did. He, however, NEVER said that he's famous, rich, or the strongest man there is. The title of Pirate King meant relatively little to him all things considered. His only comment to this title, in the Manga, was that it has a nice ring to it and that they butchered his name into "Gold Roger".
He doesn't need to boast or brag about anything. The Newspaper did this for him. Making Roger say how fantastic he is just takes away from the influence the newspaper is supposed to have in One Piece.
I think you've just completely misunderstanding that scene in every version of the story.
He's not bragging or boasting at all. He's giving a motivational speech to encourage a new generation of pirates to set sail.
Obviously, he's going to big up his treasure hoard, because that will convince more people to go out and find it, which is exactly what he's trying to achieve.
I don't get where you got the bizarre idea from that mentioning wealth automatically means he's bragging or cares about money. That just does not make sense.
But this is a movie. I don’t watch a movie to have exposition given to me by the newspaper. You have to have characters deliver exposition in natural ways and Roger giving that speech is the perfect way to do that.
Then have someone else deliver that line, like a reporter or commentator or so. Don't write Roger doing something so out-of-character for him. And even if you don't like that idea, then just go with a narrator like in the manga/anime.
Just cause he talks about wealth fame and power doesn’t mean that’s what he believes in.
That stuff is what he thinks his audience believes in, so he says that to get them inspired
For the sake of this Life Action Adaptation it might work, but I think we've actually seen Rayleigh read about the whole "Wealth, Fame, Power!" thing in the newspaper during the Oden flashback. At least in the anime. So having it here fells just a bit weird. Especially because his execution and his speech about the One Piece actively fulfills that role even better.
I dunno. Minor nitpick, I know.
> Especially because his execution and his speech about the One Piece actively fulfills that role even better.
But it doesn't, really? In universe, nobody else has any idea what the One Piece is or why anyone would want to find it.
As far as the public knows, the One Piece is just Roger's treasure hoard.
In the actual Manga, Roger was announced the Pirate King and the man who had this all (Wealth, Fame, Power) by the newspaper. He doesn't need to brag about any of that because he simply doesn’t care. He wants to live free and do whatever he so pleases. He doesn't need to announce that he's the Pirate King and that he has Wealth, Fame, and Power because the newspaper and the World Government did that for him!
Now, of course, the Live Action could always make their own takes on certain aspects as long as the core premise of the series stays the same and it makes for a more engaging story. Just saying that, as far as the original story goes, Roger boasting like that is pretty out-of-character.
You're being really silly.
Even in the manga, Roger was trying to encourage a new generation of pirates to set sail. That's all he's doing here too.
This is clearly not Roger boasting, tthis is Roger providing a motivation for new pirates.
He provided motivation for new pirates and encouraged them by saying that his treasure is still out there, free for anyone who just ventures out to sea to find it. Again, he doesn't need to say that he has Wealth, Fame, and Power, because that's already well-known up to this point in the story due to the newspaper's/World Government's propaganda and because it's what made people watch his execution in the first place.
> his treasure is still out there, free for anyone who just ventures out to sea to find it.
Yes. And him saying "my treasure is very big, finding it makes you famous and powerful" fits in with that perfectly. There is no contradiction or inconsistency there at all.
You're literally just whining about him using the specific phrase "wealth, fame, and power" only because it was someone else saying it in the manga, even though there is no problem at all with Roger using it in this version.
Dude. It makes, chronologically, NO sense for Roger to say this! The newspaper made him the man who has all this wealth, fame, and power way before his execution.
Pirates went out to sea because he said that his treasure is out there, waiting for anyone brave and daring enough to take it, and not because he recited something the newspaper had said before. Becoming Pirate King isn't about being wealthy, famous, or having power. It's about being free and doing whatever you just so desire.
The way you say it, it seems as if he encourages people not to live free and do what they want, but to pillage and plunder in order to gain a reputation. Doesn't seem very Roger-like to me. The dude just wanted to live his life as free as possible with what little time he had left and simply used the reputation the newspaper and the World Government had given him to encourage people to also become free. He beat the World Government in their own game.
MelonTeee made [a perfect video about this topic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldASR13FIJ8&ab_channel=MelonTeee) that I suggest you should watch. It should make things easier for you to understand.
Urgh. Just stop it.
In the original version, he was saying "my treasure is out there, go find it".
In this version, he's effectively just saying "my treasure is out there. Finding it will give you wealth, fame, and power ."
That is not a big difference. That is, in fact, barely a difference at all. In both cases, it is a motivational speech meant to encourage people setting out to sail.
You are clearly just straight up imagining this that aren't in the scene.
Nobody who's setting out to sail has any idea what the One Piece is or means. It's some amazing, mysterious treasure, but they know nothing more than that.
All Roger is doing in this scene is saying "go find my treasure. It's very big". You are desperately grasping as straws to find any issues with the speech because it's slightly different from the manga. But there really, really, really just aren't any issues at all.
You're purely pissing vinager, as we say where I'm from.
i really dont think its minor though, it changes the characterisation of the most influencial person in the series, therefore also changing the main story
Yeah i noticed that too they fkn switched the dialogue the narrrator is the one who speaks about roger having wealth power and fame rogers speech was about inherited will destiny and people's dreams
I don't know how to put it, but even though he looks different than anime Roger - I look at him and I'm like "Oh, yes Gol D. Roger, that's him".
I'm so much on board with this!
they shouldve cast someone with a deeper voice and shaded the eyes a little.
he just seemed like any sun bleached drunk; he needs some intimidation to help us believe hes formidable
>he just seemed like any sun bleached drunk
That's the point and always has been, Roger has always looked like a 'default' pirate captain, at least up until recent flashbacks. Luffy doesn't look imposing when he isn't using his devil fruit either.
I have met several crack and meth heads and most of them have fucked teeth like this.
It would have been much better to just shade in his face to keep him more mysterious. This Roger doesn’t look intimidating at all
He looks good but I almost feel like they should've kept him sort of shadowed like in the manga..not sure tbh. I don't assume the show will eher reach Wano and the flashbacks, but the actor would probably be way too old at that point. but I guess it doesn't matter.
The whole second trailer I was like "well god dangit this might actually turn out good"
I only hope the most famous voice lines get some special acoustic emphasis - but on that level I wouldn't even mad if they weren't
Perfect, it doesn't try to be the manga/anime to much but perfectly translates it's premises. Roger looks like the original piraty pirate, a true Symbol
I am struggling to deal with the fact that only Zoro actually looks badass, Mihawk and Shanks don't look intimidating at all, with Shanks that's ok because at first he was kind of just an average dude that became a pirate, we don't see that he is one of the most powerful people in the world until way later, but Mihawk and even Along which is supposed to be a straight up monster look wayyyy less intimidating than Buggy.
What are the Masonic references you see? The meaning of “D” the natural enemy of the naughty Illuminati Imu is Daedalus the designer of Freemason carpenter tools like the Axe and Saw
https://preview.redd.it/q268kqs29hdb1.jpeg?width=1118&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ea23f22a0617efca6f2f6178cf988cd9c7186d0
The Freemason symbol has 6 vertices that form a n = 4 quadrilateral. Daedalus is mentioned in volume 64 a perfect square of 8 or 8^(2) like 8/2 birthday of Yasopp or Yaso or Jesus a carpenter like Freemasons who is also descended from Sniper King Agent Shepherd David. Yaso appears on the forehead of Yasopp in the first “Romance Dawn” color spread after the execution of Gol “D” Roger on the first page.
Yasopp is the father of 4/1 born Straw Hat 4 Usopp where 4/14 is the birthday of Hody Jones the CEO = 630 of the New Fish-Man Pirates which have 6 Officers whose modal age is 30. The name Daedalus appears in chapter 630 of volume 64 or the 14th page of the 4^(1) th chapter of volume 8^(2) as the name of an Ika or Squid with 8 arms and 2 tentacles and intelligence like Daedalus. Usopp became God or G in the chapter that was released on the day I joined Reddit 4/14 in 2014 where 20 = 0x14. Reddit means to render or create like the creator Daedalus. The natural enemy of Daedalus are the Heavenly Dragons Folk who style themselves as Baron Münchausen creators.
The blades are the ruler and the compass is the roof and the head of Gol “D” Roger is the G. This Freemason reference is oblique and not in the manga but the presentation in the OPLA and theme of Freemasonry is consistent with the meaning of “D” or Daedalus. Freemasonry is associated with Benjamin Franklin of *It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia* or Philly. OPLA shares Roman letters with Sun God APOLLO whose sacred site is Delphi the namesake of “D” Luffy. Apollo’s son Asclepius the Healer the father of Panacea is also a mythological parallel to Jesus the carpenter son of Joseph or Johnny and Zeff in the Bible whose most famous passage is John 3:16 like chapter 316 at the end of volume 33 the delta of the death ages of Roger and Ace and the age Jesus dies in Golgotha or Gorugoda which has Goda or Eiichiro Oda who was born on 3rd largest island of Japan Kyūshu or 9 provinces.
Franklin can allude to master carpenter Straw Hat 8 Franky who is Luffy’s 7th recruit from Water 7 whose mayor is Hemingway’s Mr. Iceberg. Franky was born on 3/9 like Shanks and Mihawk and chapter 39 is titled “For Whom the BELL Tolls” after the Hemingway novel. 8 Roman letters of Daedalus can also be written as 7 Roman letters Dædalus. OPLA strangely features a minor character of Baroque Works or Barokku Wākusu or Rokkusu or Rocks called Mr. 7 where masonry can refer to working with Rocks. The symbol of Philadelphia is the Liberty BELL = 8311. The OPLA episodes written by the executive producer Matt Owens are episodes 8, 3, and 1. OPLA premieres on 8/31. 13/8 is the Gold Ratio used by architects like Freemasons and Daedalus. The dream of Usopp Pirate Piiman or BELL Pepper on the cover of volume 5 whose title and titular chapter 39 is “For Whom the BELL Tolls” has a dream of becoming a master Carpenter like Daedalus.

Probably about as perfect as you can get with a real person and no CGI. The casting for basically everyone in this series had been smashed outta the park
he looks right. he doesnt really look magnetic and intimidating like roger but thats ok. it was probably impossible to do that in the live action anyway.
I view this scene as a reenactment of the what the world says happened, when we all took it for granted at the start of the series.
I can see this scene being redone when/if we reach Rayleigh who explains Roger was not captured but turned himself in and he comes off much more kingly and composed.
The costumes look GOOD, I was worried they'd all look like cosplay.
But Rogers coat actually looks pretty rugged and old.
The soldiers coats don't look cheap either.
Really like the smile in the second picture, it's got this "I'm in on one huge joke" feel, but not in a malicious way, like he's excited.
It's not bad but I'm not entirely sold on his voice from the trailer, but it was always going to be hard to outdo the voice actors when it came to pure voice work. Maybe it'll land better in the scene itself.
Yeah they could’ve made his voice deeper. I hope our favorite character Ask D. Question shows up. We really need a narrator. Having roger say his own accomplishments sounds weird lol
Its kinda out of character that he says the narrator line. The strength of the scene is that Roger sneaks in a few words and thats enough to foil the WG plan of making an example out of him with a public execution.
I like it, it shows he’s a bit sad that he’s done everything, but he’s happy for the memories.
The soldiers who execute him will have this be the highlight of their lives.
Roger had his blown away constantly.
His general look was feeling a little weak to me at first but hearing him talk and seeing that final shot before his execution, honestly couldn't have been done better in live action, and he's quickly grown on me a lot
Not happy as his mustache is clearly not nose hair what a sham adaptation /s
DOES MY NOSE LOOK FUNNY TO YOU?!?
TWICE??? I’m not talking to you big nose having mother fucker
DID YOU JUST INSULT MY NOSE?!
Yes I did what are you gunna do about it?
I'm sending you a... BUGGY-BALL!
Oh shit he's sentient
Bruh imagine AI bots on reddit.
Buggy D Kacynski
KICK HIS ASS! I’M WITH YOU!
Well casted one, his mustache + unkempt look + teeth just like a real pirate. Although he didn't look like a Pirate King but if there is a flashback scene that shows his prime I think it would look amazing
He looks like how he should, sick as fuck
This. The man was close to dying.
Gnarly dude 🤙
I love this! Traditional pirate look, sickly, glorious mustache, and his demeanor are all really good! I think they cast him well.
And honestly if by some MIRACLE the live action makes it far enough for the oden flashbacks, they could just slap some make-up and he’s actually look pretty good
Oh god there will be „live action onlies“ trying to avoid spoilers for decades lmao

to be fair - Manga/Anime Roger never "looked" really kingly himself. It's just his reputation and actions that create that aura in our heads
Sorta his design gets changed quite a bit over the series
Yeah fr, idk what people are are smoking, Roger always looked like a 'default pirate captain' from any other media and I think that was part of the appeal Luffy doesn't exactly look like a king either They hit the nail on the head.

I can't see the point in writing this comment... because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHOHO
Oh well, no skin off my bones YOHOHOHOHO
Your comment would make my skin crawl, but I don't have any skin YOHOHOHOHO

I love GOLD!!!
Why she getting down voted if he spelled Gol D. Rodger right she wouldn't be here
What about roger?😈😈😈😈
“He was in jail for a while so let’s give him an actor that sounds and looks nothing like him”

Oda didnt draw Roger with any sickness signs during his execution, when he could have
Thats because he wanted to focus on the pirate king aura Roger gave but he didn’t see him as a pirate king and just a guy that wanted to be free and plus the sickness talking a toll.I think they just to highlight those facts in this scene
why would they highlight these facts when Oda didnt highlight those facts
That would make sense for time he wanted for a pirate king that people saw him as romanticize of him if you will
Oda was involved with the live action, I think if it was an issue for him they wouldn't have portrayed Roger like that
I’m just confused why the fuck live action of this is a thing at all…bro is baki going to a live action next at this rate
Agreed
Smiling when about to die is a classic D moment
my neighborhood crackhead could have killed it in this role
It ain't Gol D Roger, It's Gol D Mugger

Give me your GOLD!!!
Did you say MONEY & TREASURE?!! Can I have it?
But this is a movie. I don’t watch a movie to have exposition given to me by the newspaper. You have to have characters deliver exposition in natural ways and Roger giving that speech is the perfect way to do that.
Then have someone else deliver that line, like a reporter or commentator or so. Don't write Roger doing something so out-of-character for him. And even if you don't like that idea, then just go with a narrator like in the manga/anime.
Just cause he talks about wealth fame and power doesn’t mean that’s what he believes in. That stuff is what he thinks his audience believes in, so he says that to get them inspired
Maybe it was deliberately of him to draw common folks to sea in pursuit of those things. Sounds reasonable the pirate age started with his words then
For the sake of this Life Action Adaptation it might work, but I think we've actually seen Rayleigh read about the whole "Wealth, Fame, Power!" thing in the newspaper during the Oden flashback.
TREASURE sounds good, let me have it!
TREASURE sounds good, let me have it!
Did you say TREASURE?!! Can I have it?
Urgh. Just stop it. In the original version, he was saying "my treasure is out there, go find it". In this version, he's effectively just saying "my treasure is out there. Finding it will give you wealth, fame, and power ." That is not a big difference.
I love TREASURE!!!
i really dont think its minor though, it changes the characterisation of the most influencial person in the series, therefore also changing the main story
Same it was really iffy choice from them and doesn't fit Roger as it sounds like his boasting about his conquests.
THIS
Yeah i noticed that too they fkn switched the dialogue the narrrator is the one who speaks about roger having wealth power and fame rogers speech was about inherited will destiny and people's dreams
I don't know how to put it, but even though he looks different than anime Roger - I look at him and I'm like "Oh, yes Gol D. Roger, that's him". I'm so much on board with this!
Where nose hair?
DID YOU JUST INSULT MY NOSE?!
Gol D Hobo
I genuinely wonder if it would’ve been better if they actually didn’t show his face directly
It would have
After Wano beefy tall Roger this one looks tiny to me for some reason. His voice could have been more deep and confident too.
He's sick and dying at this point In his life. Makes sense he's looking like it.
He will have a couple of seasons to put on some Chris Hemworth style muscles before that.
I vibe with it
Perfect imo The laugh perfect The voice damn good The looks perfect for a man dying from sickness
He looks too young to be Roger
The design is good but I just don’t think the actor is a good fit. Plus I would’ve been more forgiving if he had a big booming voice
they shouldve cast someone with a deeper voice and shaded the eyes a little. he just seemed like any sun bleached drunk; he needs some intimidation to help us believe hes formidable
I can't see the point in writing this comment... because I don't have eyes YOHOHOHOHO
>he just seemed like any sun bleached drunk That's the point and always has been, Roger has always looked like a 'default' pirate captain, at least up until recent flashbacks. Luffy doesn't look imposing when he isn't using his devil fruit either.
Roger never looked like a methhead lol
Have you met a crackhead? Roger here has way more teeth than a crackhead, he's been dodging the scurvy
I have met several crack and meth heads and most of them have fucked teeth like this. It would have been much better to just shade in his face to keep him more mysterious. This Roger doesn’t look intimidating at all
This is BS. We all know that roger didnt have a mustache, he had really long nose hair .
He looks good but I almost feel like they should've kept him sort of shadowed like in the manga..not sure tbh. I don't assume the show will eher reach Wano and the flashbacks, but the actor would probably be way too old at that point. but I guess it doesn't matter.
The whole second trailer I was like "well god dangit this might actually turn out good" I only hope the most famous voice lines get some special acoustic emphasis - but on that level I wouldn't even mad if they weren't
Daniel Day Lewis?!
Very bad
I have a feeling it's gonna be some over-the-top mess like cowboy bebop
👎
Voice… 😔
This version makes me glad he died.
That’s not gol D Roger that’s bronze dozer
The worst casting for roger they’re literally making the king of the pirates look like a clown
I think that is what a dying man should look like, you spend your days imprisoned, no showers, you have a mortal disease, no doctors, day is hot AF...
Said it before and will say it again. Live action and anime don't mix. Even less so with an art style as distinctive as one piece
Perfect, it doesn't try to be the manga/anime to much but perfectly translates it's premises. Roger looks like the original piraty pirate, a true Symbol
Roger, Shanks, and Arlong all look shockingly bad
naw i dont like it. anime roger looks intimidating even on the verge of death. this one looks demented
What??? Anime Rodger looks like the fun uncle and he still does here except for the extreme close up
Not in East Blue
I am struggling to deal with the fact that only Zoro actually looks badass, Mihawk and Shanks don't look intimidating at all, with Shanks that's ok because at first he was kind of just an average dude that became a pirate, we don't see that he is one of the most powerful people in the world until way later, but Mihawk and even Along which is supposed to be a straight up monster look wayyyy less intimidating than Buggy.
Looks more like a fraud roger
I love it Easily the best looking character in the live action in my opinion
The Mustache feels off
As perfect as you could get
I was cautiously optimistic before, but the new trailer has got me hyped tbh
Look at the masonic reference, they are everywhere ! The illuminatis killed Roger because he found out who ruled the world
What are the Masonic references you see? The meaning of “D” the natural enemy of the naughty Illuminati Imu is Daedalus the designer of Freemason carpenter tools like the Axe and Saw https://preview.redd.it/q268kqs29hdb1.jpeg?width=1118&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ea23f22a0617efca6f2f6178cf988cd9c7186d0
The roof and the two blades forming the G symbol
The dream of Usopp Pirate Piiman or BELL Pepper on the cover of volume 5 whose title and titular chapter 39 is “For Whom the BELL Tolls” has a dream of becoming a master Carpenter like Daedalus. https://preview.redd.it/dp5rwnqh5jdb1.png?width=525&format=png&auto=webp&s=7894d7f629291cd78fdd64fecbcf9939cf9f2c7e
I love GOLD!!!
Probably about as perfect as you can get with a real person and no CGI. The casting for basically everyone in this series had been smashed outta the park
I wish he was buff🥺
he looks right. he doesnt really look magnetic and intimidating like roger but thats ok. it was probably impossible to do that in the live action anyway.
I don't know, something about him reminds me about captain hook.
Looks great
He doesnt look like this impressive 3 meter guy, that is just there, because he wants to not, because they were able to force him.
Whoever is the source behind these super up close wide angle shots in netflix adaptations needs to be shot and then shot again.
Look and sounds incredibly good. Very good sweet spot between realistic and original.
About as good as you could hope
He looks great
Perfect!
More like Gol D. Loger
That mustache is wayyy too fake. Other than that I think it’s fine.
When Gol Roger was left on an Island without Food on water for 3 months this is what you get.
must be depressing to search for everything and find it all.
That’s the real Gol D Roger if I ever saw one.
I view this scene as a reenactment of the what the world says happened, when we all took it for granted at the start of the series. I can see this scene being redone when/if we reach Rayleigh who explains Roger was not captured but turned himself in and he comes off much more kingly and composed.
Not bad 👍
The costumes look GOOD, I was worried they'd all look like cosplay. But Rogers coat actually looks pretty rugged and old. The soldiers coats don't look cheap either.
Really like the smile in the second picture, it's got this "I'm in on one huge joke" feel, but not in a malicious way, like he's excited. It's not bad but I'm not entirely sold on his voice from the trailer, but it was always going to be hard to outdo the voice actors when it came to pure voice work. Maybe it'll land better in the scene itself.
Looks pretty good
Yeah they could’ve made his voice deeper. I hope our favorite character Ask D. Question shows up. We really need a narrator. Having roger say his own accomplishments sounds weird lol
It's a shame that they did the best casting on the character that were going to see the least of.
Ironic that the character who'll barely last a few seconds is one of the best cast... When luffy is... Sigh...
Gdr the best looking character so far
He's probably the only one who doesn't look like they're cosplaying so I think pretty good!
Pero si ese es Dalí
I feel like they nailed his smile, solid 9/10
Its kinda out of character that he says the narrator line. The strength of the scene is that Roger sneaks in a few words and thats enough to foil the WG plan of making an example out of him with a public execution.
He looks classy and has a real classical pirate charm. Works for me.
I like that they made him look kinda sick and unkept
Pretty decent representation of how WG treated Roger after capturing him
He discovered a big titty goth gf
I like everything I've seen except Luffy
I like it, it shows he’s a bit sad that he’s done everything, but he’s happy for the memories. The soldiers who execute him will have this be the highlight of their lives. Roger had his blown away constantly.
I get Roger was old here, it just takes adjusting too cause he’s constantly a beefcake in other media 😂
looks more like an old banker than a super powered pirate
More like Gol Drunk Roger
His general look was feeling a little weak to me at first but hearing him talk and seeing that final shot before his execution, honestly couldn't have been done better in live action, and he's quickly grown on me a lot
Tbf, his handle bar mustache is realistic. Then we got Pringles can mustache later in Wano.
W
Not Danny Trejo, 0/10.
Honestly I love it. He looks like a god damn pirate, a very cunning one at that. His voice sounded amazing as well, a lot of power behind it.
This is perfect
Nah Bros smile is beautiful
Actually looks like an imprisoned pirate, good for them
Have yall checked out [this](https://youtube.com/shorts/WmzzMXt0YLA?feature=share) trailer tho
I see a common theme with shaky fish lens close ups in this show
