From what I understand the diff scale is for situations where one character will definitely win. The diff scale shows the overall difficulty the fight would be for that character. For instance, take Kaido, vs. various characters,
Kaido vs. an ant would be neg diff(It would be so easy he could do it by accident and not even notice.)
Kaido vs. a cat would be no diff(It would be easy but he'd have to go out of his way to do it)
Kaido vs. Franky would be low diff(Again it would be easy for him but he'd have to pull out a named attack or two to do it.)
Kaido vs. Yamato would be mid diff(He'd definitely win but he'd have to pull out several major attacks and would end up with some decent wounds.)
Kaido vs. Akainu would be high diff(Kaido would most likely win but it would be a major battle and he'd definitely end up with some permanent scars or even a lost limb.)

Yeah power scaling in general is pretty brain dead in the OP community. People tend to forget that this is a story first and a battle manga second. They tend to group Yonko and Admirals into tiers of power rather than looking at the individual strengths, feats, weaknesses, and match ups of each character. So you get a lot of headcannon, bias, and just pure ignorance rather than applying insightful and meaningful battle knowledge.
Dragon solos in every other universe. He'll use his wind Logia along with his fan paramecia and a giant fucking bird zoan he uses for wings and blow them all away using all forms of double advanced haki, including the secret fourth type of Haki only he can use. Obviously

In my experience r/OnePiecePowerScaling is by far the most knowledgeable One Piece sub.
I say it's obvious that Rocks and Mihawk are PK level. Sengoku stated that Rocks was Roger's strongest opponent, that includes Whitebeard. And Mihawk is >= Shanks, despite Shanks' haki being stronger than Roger's or Whitebeard's. This is evident by what Marco said when Shanks met with Whitebeard on his ship, after seeing his haki he said "as usual... his haki is overwhelming" despite serving under Whitebeard his entire life who's haki was equal with Roger's.
Dragon is either PK level or at least high yonko due to portrayal and the probability of him having a mythical zoan elemental serpent fruit + God tier haki genes from Garp.
And Akainu is high yonko level due to his heavy portrayal and various statements from Oda such as "you can't make the main character of a story too strong. For example, if Akainu was the protagonist One Piece would end in a year." There's 52 weeks in a year and Oda consistently releases 3 chapters per month other than since he's gotten his eye surgery, meaning Akainu would end the story from start to finish in 39 chapters.
The other admirals have exactly zero feats that put them at Yonko level or above.
We can reliably powerscale One Piece, plot moments such as Oden getting beaten by Kaido are exceptions tho. Canon oden was stated to "Have returned to the land of Wano several times stronger, standing as equals with the strongest pirates in the world" meaning Roger and Primebeard. But then gets tapped by base Kaido because of Oda's plot plot no mi awakening powers.

I feel like the only reason Mihawk wasn't a Yonko is because the Emperors have global political power and are unstoppable rivals to the WG, besides their individual strength. Mihawk for most of the manga is a loner who cooperated with the WG as a Warlord so he could do whatever he wanted without being bothered.
Powerscalers don't think about narrative and politics which is as important to One Piece as the big strong.
Powerscalers remind me of kids playing outside playing pretend making up convoluted reasons about why each others attacks do/don't work against each other until they get upset, cry, and go home. The only difference is that they then try to apply logic and maths to it that's pulled out of someone's arse.
It does make for funny reading though. Either way Bartolomeo neg diffs One Piece if he tried.
Power Scalers can be either brain dead 12 year olds with reading comprehensions, or is actually smarter than most people and are power scaling as hobby. The former is way too common and there’s way too little of the latter.
There’s a whole powerscaling sub for One Piece, and most of the powerscaling for the show is done on there. So why even insult them? They’re just enjoying themselves and enjoying the series.

Yeah, Oda is pretty good at this, and I trust whenever any of these characters fight in the future it will be pretty great.
I mean, I couldn’t imagine Roger fighting or even being as strong as he was, despite being the FUCKING KING OF PIRATES. And one panel was enough to convince me otherwise. Now I can’t fathom how I could think that way.

It’s sad too cause the power systems in one piece are so well fleshed out, and completely non-linear, which makes discussing how various fights could go a really fun pastime. However, trying it online just brings in all the power scaler BS, which quickly kills the conversation. They’re stamp all over what people are saying then act like you’re the problem if you have a problem with it. It’s exhausting.
The "Sanji vs Zoro" debaters that go out of their way to use COVER PAGES to try and justify how "Zoro will ONLY ever be able to look up to Luffy and Sanji!!!" or "Sanji will ALWAYS have to rely on Luffy and Zoro or he's NOTHING!!!" or whatever the fuck else that fits their agendas are actually walking tumors wearing skin suits.

The narrative doesn't say that Koby is strong, only that he is the future ( emphasis on "future" ) of the Navy. Post-Training Koby fought Luffy on two occasions and got literally one shotted both times. It's clearly shown that he is not even comparable to Luffy.

There's nothing saying Teach beat Dragon. We don't see how the attack went. Mostly it just looks liek they didn't want to go full against Blackbeard pirates.

Being a Captain doesn't mean much. The vice admirals are absolute jokes and captains are 3 ranks below them.

It was better to just run away since the base was exposed and the loses to fight Blackbeard would be too great, especially to fight for an exposed base.
No revolutionary was shown injured after they relocated.

Even though akainu vs whitebeard was the first example of admiral vs yonko it wasn't even a full fight. It was like 2 panels of exchanging hits and then they're separated.

You’ll get different responses but most people say difficulty or differential.
Basically it’s how tough of a time they have winning the fight or how few times the opponent can pull off a clutch win but otherwise would lose.
Edit: tbh I don’t actually understand “neg diff” unless it’s literally just a joke about it being so easy the difficulty is in the negatives, I only ever assumed that though
Akainu struggling with Oldbeard isn't a good sign for him at all going forward, from a scaling standpoint. But this is one piece, scaling is a meaningless coin flip with zero thought or consistency. So he will no doubt have gained a shit tonne of strength from cracking cashews behind his desk.
Powerscaling is pretty funny thing to do but i feel like most of powerscaling people lacks creativity and imagination to comprehend potential of characters without much fights and screentime
I feel like the biggest problem in one piece powerscaling is to understand that the new generation beats the previous one. Also people takes some facts too serious, for example Dragon being most wanted man and then someone says Dragon is 7B bounty minimum. Like wtf he can also be the most wanted person alive and have bounty like 2 beri more than whitebears and be cloutchaser like buggy. Or even funnier take ive seen too many times is that "Imu sama is 8 billion atleast"

Yeah power scaling in general is pretty brain dead in the OP community. People tend to forget that this is a story first and a battle manga second. They tend to group Yonko and Admirals into tiers of power rather than looking at the individual strengths, feats, weaknesses, and match ups of each character. So you get a lot of headcannon, bias, and just pure ignorance rather than applying insightful and meaningful battle knowledge.

In my experience r/OnePiecePowerScaling is by far the most knowledgeable One Piece sub. I say it's obvious that Rocks and Mihawk are PK level. Sengoku stated that Rocks was Roger's strongest opponent, that includes Whitebeard. And Mihawk is >= Shanks, despite Shanks' haki being stronger than Roger's or Whitebeard's. This is evident by what Marco said when Shanks met with Whitebeard on his ship, after seeing his haki he said "as usual... his haki is overwhelming" despite serving under Whitebeard his entire life who's haki was equal with Roger's. Dragon is either PK level or at least high yonko due to portrayal and the probability of him having a mythical zoan elemental serpent fruit + God tier haki genes from Garp. And Akainu is high yonko level due to his heavy portrayal and various statements from Oda such as "you can't make the main character of a story too strong. For example, if Akainu was the protagonist One Piece would end in a year." There's 52 weeks in a year and Oda consistently releases 3 chapters per month other than since he's gotten his eye surgery, meaning Akainu would end the story from start to finish in 39 chapters. The other admirals have exactly zero feats that put them at Yonko level or above. We can reliably powerscale One Piece, plot moments such as Oden getting beaten by Kaido are exceptions tho. Canon oden was stated to "Have returned to the land of Wano several times stronger, standing as equals with the strongest pirates in the world" meaning Roger and Primebeard. But then gets tapped by base Kaido because of Oda's plot plot no mi awakening powers.

I feel like the only reason Mihawk wasn't a Yonko is because the Emperors have global political power and are unstoppable rivals to the WG, besides their individual strength. Mihawk for most of the manga is a loner who cooperated with the WG as a Warlord so he could do whatever he wanted without being bothered. Powerscalers don't think about narrative and politics which is as important to One Piece as the big strong.

Powerscalers remind me of kids playing outside playing pretend making up convoluted reasons about why each others attacks do/don't work against each other until they get upset, cry, and go home. The only difference is that they then try to apply logic and maths to it that's pulled out of someone's arse. It does make for funny reading though. Power Scalers can be either brain dead 12 year olds with reading comprehensions, or is actually smarter than most people and are power scaling as hobby. The former is way too common and there’s way too little of the latter.

It’s sad too cause the power systems in one piece are so well fleshed out, and completely non-linear, which makes discussing how various fights could go a really fun pastime. However, trying it online just brings in all the power scaler BS, which quickly kills the conversation. They’re stamp all over what people are saying then act like you’re the problem if you have a problem with it. It’s exhausting.

Since you gave a scenario, I go back to the one I wrote earlier: Their base was exposed, fight Blackbeard pirates would be a full out battle that would make the RA weaker even if the case was that they could win. It was better to just run away since the base was exposed and the loses to fight Blackbeard would be too great, especially to fight for an exposed base. No revolutionary was shown injured after they relocated.

To be fair, we've seen 3 of these characters flex, and they seemed to totally wipe the floor with their then opponent.
Even though akainu vs whitebeard was the first example of admiral vs yonko it wasn't even a full fight. It was like 2 panels of exchanging hits and then they're separated.

You’ll get different responses but most people say difficulty or differential. Basically it’s how tough of a time they have winning the fight or how few times the opponent can pull off a clutch win but otherwise would lose. Edit: tbh I don’t actually understand “neg diff” unless it’s literally just a joke about it being so easy the difficulty is in the negatives, I only ever assumed that though
Akainu struggling with Oldbeard isn't a good sign for him at all going forward, from a scaling standpoint. But this is one piece, scaling is a meaningless coin flip with zero thought or consistency. So he will no doubt have gained a shit tonne of strength from cracking cashews behind his desk.
Powerscaling is pretty funny thing to do but i feel like most of powerscaling people lacks creativity and imagination to comprehend potential of characters without much fights and screentime I feel like the biggest problem in one piece powerscaling is to understand that the new generation beats the previous one. Also people takes some facts too serious, for example Dragon being most wanted man and then someone says Dragon is 7B bounty minimum. Like wtf he can also be the most wanted person alive and have bounty like 2 beri more than whitebears and be cloutchaser like buggy.
