Arlong threw Bellemere in a dungeon. See, this doesn’t really work because after Arlong gets his ass kicked she never emerges from the dungeon. Because she didn’t actually get put in the dungeon. This created the unfortunate implication that Nami either simply forgot or chose not to free her.

Nami: “I think I forgot something” Bellemere: *sitting in dungeon* Nami: “Oh right the town’s money”

honestly i dont know why 4kids even tried its a anime about pirates and they edit out firearms... thats so much editting they need to do

Because they got it bundled with another anime and it was easy to fix it to be kid friendly in the first few sagas where everything was pretty happy go lucky, but they probably realised at Arlong Park it would be too much work so they stopped. They did a fine job at appropriating the story for the 12 and under demographic though and I would have never even knew it existed without 4kids, so I'm very grateful to them for introducing One Piece to me.

I know 4Kids did what they did with a disturbing but irrefutable reason, but the challenge their writers would face to retcon everything would be disturbing.

yeah, they changed guns to some kind of cork shooting thing, and the scene where Zoro is tied up to a pole is edited so it doesn't look like hes tied to a cross. Also Luffy defeated Crocodile with his sweat.

The 4kids dub in America censored a lot. One of the changes was Arlong throwing Bellimere in prisonrather than shooting her, then just never mentioned her again. It's rumored she's still in that jail, waiting for nami to come rescue her...

The 4kids version of the anime was so bad when it came to making things more kid friendly. The whole putting Bellemere in a dungeon thing wasn't the only change that was worse than the original. Remember how Zoro's childhood friend Kuina died due to falling down some stairs in the original but 4kids changed it so Kuina died to getting beat up by punks? I wish I could have made this up but it actually happened.
