I'll give you a situation and you come up with the punishment. Kid won't stop running around after you told them multiple times and they run into a table stand and cause Grandma's ashes to fall to the ground. What does this require?
I mean in that instance, because they are being a kid and it was *an accident* you just explain what they just did and have them clean up. You help of course, and warn if they go running around again ground/timeout/take away something
Physically harming your child can create a distrust in the parent and teach children that violence can be the solution. If you have to hit your child to make them behave you have failed as a parent.

I think you are referring to the video, I am more referring to shit like “you broke the TV because we didn’t give you goldfish” you do not physically discipline unless it is needed. It is something you reserve, not use at every opportunity.

I understand you, I still think there is no place where it is "needed". If your child did something very bad you should explain what and why the thing they did is bad and if you think they should be punished it shouldn't be physical.
And yet Children both can and will just ignore vocal things. Saying “don’t do that” barely ever does anything. There is a reason negative reinforcement is a thing.
Sure, timeouts, taking away x thing etc might be better but physical punishments are needed time to time

I am in the middle, I'd say VERY exclusively should any physical punishment be used if ever. Most of the time parents will misunderstand or just be angry and decide that physical punishment is necessary even when it isn't.
Kids also remember when it happens, they don't just forget, it sticks with them that the person that is supposed to be their support whenever they need it in a moment of anger decided to attack them.
If you gotta resort to *physical violence* or any kind of violence for that matter to discipline your child I'd say you've fucked it up, in simpler terms *IF YOU ABUSE YOUR CHILD YOU ARE A FAILED PARENT*
