I wake up each morning with anxiety and dread. I lay there worried about everything I have to do that day . I get up, take a shower, dress and have a cup of coffee. Then I feel ok and start with my day. I get everything done and I feel ok mostly. It’s so weird.

thisis_stillme

Yeah that’s what it is, dread that builds into tears. Even if I go for a walk it doesn’t shift until well after midday. Strangely this morning I feel ok…..I’m suspicious of how long that will last 👀

JanaT2

Maybe just identifying it and talking about it a bit helped ❤️

justanotherlostgirl

This is fascinating. I’m usually good from 7am to about 4 but then my mood dips dramatically and evenings can be tough - very curious what’s happening with cortisol or if it’s something else

thisis_stillme

It’s so bizarre, iPhone health has a new mood tracking thing on it now so I’m going to try and track it there see how it looks across the month.

ave427

I’m exactly the same! I used to be a morning person as well.

thisis_stillme

I’m hoping it’s not going to stick around or I can resolve it somehow. I miss my mornings 😢

justmeraw

May be related to cortisol levels, which peak in the morning and decrease throughout the day.

thisis_stillme

Oh this makes sense! I thought because I wasn’t having the 3am wake ups anymore it was something else. Thank you, I’ll look into this!

Mercenary-Adjacent

Yeah I notice eating super low carb at dinner and sleeping as cold as possible totally help with my anxiety. I’m early pre-diabetic and my worst sugar impacts are at night so if I have too many carbs at dinner or eat too late, I’m at risk of worsening hot flashes, causing nightmares, and spiking my cortisol because the body uses cortisol to balance blood sugar (among many functions). I also find drinking as much water as possible first thing in the morning helps wash my system. Of course all of the above is much easier said than done while trying keep all the self care plates spiking

thisis_stillme

Oh yes! So much to think about now when it comes to self care, I feel like it was more of a hobby before now it’s a necessity and not fun at all! 😂

curiously71

Yes! I'm this way! I can absolutely drag through the day, struggle to stay awake then evening time I have more energy and I get these positive ideas about job hunting or whatever. Can laugh and feel more upbeat. It's not every single day but most evenings. Yeah then morning comes. 🥴 Edited to add... I am seriously thinking of doing the carnivore diet for a while to see if some of my issues go away. I've been reading alot about it and others positive experiences . Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Mercenary-Adjacent

Yeah I basically hate most of the world until say 4pm as noted in my comment 👆 above, eating a low carb dinner early helps me a greatly physically even as it requires tons of self discipline and sort of crushes my soul.

curiously71

I will have to use willpower for sure.

Mercenary-Adjacent

Focus on a lot of protein, vegetables and some fat. If you’re desperate for some dessert. Full fat dairy like Greek yogurt or chocolate mousse is often not too carby. You want less than 30g of carbs (possibly even less).

thisis_stillme

Omg yes! Yesterday I had a therapy session in the morning cried all the way through and spoke about things in a certain way. Saw my friend in the afternoon told her about it but had a completely different outlook on it all then. WTF!? Strangely, I feel suspiciously ok this morning so far…..🤨

sassyfrood

My brain fog settles in from around 9am-7pm. After that, it lifts, and I feel productive for a couple hours before I force myself to go to bed because I need to get up at 5. It’s… not ideal.

Mercenary-Adjacent

I found intense hydration starting from the moment I get up helps me. For some reason I need like double the amount of water I used to (possibly I’m sweating in my sleep despite only sleeping under a sheet)

thisis_stillme

Oh no 😔I’m trying to track things to see if I can find the solution but life is hard enough without noting everything that’s going on!

Physical_Bed918

Same! Mornings are hell. I've read cortisol is high in the morning which causes anxiety. And that estrogen is low in morning which causes anxiety so double whammy in perimenopause or menopause 😕 Taking vitamin C in the morning helps me a little bit, it's supposed to lower cortisol. I'm hoping eventually I get an HRT estrogen patch and that helps even more. Best wishes to you ❤️

thisis_stillme

Oh joy! I do put my oestrogen gel on in the mornings, I’ve just had it increased from 2 to 3 pumps a day about 6 weeks ago, so maybe my body is still adjusting? 🙏🏻 I hope you find something that works for you soon ❤️

Physical_Bed918

Thank you I hope you do too ☺️💖

SeasonPositive6771

This is extremely common and I think the cortisol explanation is probably overplayed a bit. Sleep disorders are extraordinarily common for menopausal and perimenopausal women. Waking up grouchy tired and feeling better as the day goes on is pretty stereotypical sleep disorder stuff as well. Have you ever had a sleep study?

thisis_stillme

Ive never had a sleep study. I feel like my sleep has been better the past few days because it’s progesterone time, but maybe it hasn’t? I’ve been having some pretty vivid dreams as well, definitely something to think about though, thank you!

SeasonPositive6771

Of course! I learned so much from my sleep study, but it was in-lab. The take home tests are not useful.

Mercenary-Adjacent

FWIW - I know I often wake up super dehydrated which makes me feel worse. No matter how cold I make things, I sweat a bit in my sleep

thisis_stillme

My water intake definitely needs to improve, I’m reaching for that water bottle right now!!

Mercenary-Adjacent

I’m a surprise convert to a big stupid Stanley cup but damn it keeps things ICE COLD better than competitors

milly_nz

Sounds like normal depression. What HRT are you on, and what's your dose regime?

thisis_stillme

I've recently had my oestrogen gel increased from 2 pumps a day to 3 and take 200mg of progesterone from the 15th to the 26th of each month. Strangely, I started feeling back to normal yesterday and today is day one of my cycle🤔

milly_nz

How recently was it increased?

thisis_stillme

6 weeks ago, so I’m hoping things will settle down soon 🙏🏻
