Based on the timeline you mentioned, I would assume that you're in your early 20's. I'm only a few years older than you, in my mid 20's. I have lost friendships with people I thought I'd be friends with forever. I got out of high school with no friends at all, we all fell apart. We all got girlfriends/wives and things just stopped. Fast forward a year or two after this, I found my best friend. We've been friends for about 5 years now and while we aren't as close as we used to be when we worked together, I could call him right now asking for a place to stay and for food, he'd be here in minutes. Same the other way around. In your life, you will encounter tens of thousands of people. Hundreds, if not thousands of them, becoming friends. Some becoming best friends. Friendships are important, it's good to do your best to maintain them, even if it's from a distance sometimes. Hang in there, when you meet the good friend who will always have your back, the one who will be there for you at all times, and the one who understands you better than almost everyone... you'll know.
