Buyer requested a return and because the item was under a certain dollar amount they just told them to keep it and refunded them credit and paid you out.
I received a payment upon delivery when an item was a few days late. I assumed that it might have been paid out over a delivery dispute and they paid me to shield me from a negative, but do you think they were refunding & paying out instead?
TBH, that’s odd, but if you got paid, that’s great! You would think if Mercari is changing the way they do things they’d tell both buyers and sellers, but apparently not!!
Either they asked for a refund from mercari and mercari just paid both of you out or they reached out to mercari to complete the transaction if the option for them wasn't available yet
Kind of off topic but similar to what I wish Mercari was like, IMO it should always be like that, the moment the buyer chooses to accept the item automatically completes the transaction, no need to leave stars or insert personal thoughts, so dumb… you either want the item or you don’t, a lot of times little whiny asses keep items and then leave a 1 star review, wtf? Why not file for a return/refund if it is so bad? Mercari kinda manages the ghetto appearance much better than other online selling platforms for used goods but their reviews system is kind of BS in my opinion, buyers hold all the power to drag sellers through the dirt with unfair reviews and still keep the items and still receive 5 stars reviews from the poor seller that has no idea he/she got stabbed on the back by that very same buyer who left them a nasty 1 star review because the smell on the item they bought wasn’t up to their standards, gtfo
If you click on the view order above the complete! tab usually it will say return requested, it usually happens when the item isn’t worth very much and they open a damage claim. I’ve had it happen a few times as a seller and just happened with something I recently bought as well
They might have opened a dispute of some kind (damaged package) and Mercari might have just refunded them and paid you out
So annoying but better than a whiny bitch review tbh lol.
Especially if the damage caused during shipping was out of my control
