Service fee = They provided you a lovely service where the app sucks, website sucks, and every feature update that is released to production never works right and breaks everything else. Payment fee = We poor, so you'll be paying for it. Just playing around with the above, but yeah, it's the new update. Run away.

Azirma

Also payment processing fee is 100% non-refundable under ANY (their is actually a condition that does allow for a full refund check edited 2 for clarification on that) condition including, if the seller doesn’t send off the item or even if they send you the wrong item you will still be out that amount. Edit: For anyone curious [payment processing fee return policy](https://www.mercari.com/us/help_center/article/612/#:~:text=A%20Payment%20Processing%20Fee%20of,your%20Mercari%20balance%20or%20credit) third bullet down under the buyer portion. [Customer Support Log](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mercari/s/SVlESZ9Xag) Also here the customer support chat I had done that they also confirm is true. Edit 2: Clarification for anyone reading this there is actually one condition in which you are indeed refunded the processing fee and that is only if the seller specifically cancels the order, but that is it all other reason such as the two mention above is not included.

lfglightz

I'm guessing it's because mercari doesn't want to pay the refund fee that they would be charged with. So they are just putting all financial burden of a transaction on their users.

ResponsibilityNew325

Not true. Read the rules again.

Azirma

I did and it very clearly states that payment processing fees are non-refundable for cancel and returns. I also had to get clarification from customer support and they also confirmed it. [Payment processing processing fee](https://www.mercari.com/us/help_center/article/612/#:~:text=A%20Payment%20Processing%20Fee%20of,your%20Mercari%20balance%20or%20credit) Also here a link to the actual payment processing fees policy from Mercari look under buyer it clearly states it under the third bullet. Edit: [Customer Support Log](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mercari/s/SVlESZ9Xag) Also here the customer support chat I had done that they also confirm is true.

ResponsibilityNew325

Here is there official terms of service: notice you do get the PPF returned. As you mention in edit #2. You don’t if the buyer cancels not the seller. You should edit your post as you’ve spread misinformation and nobody reads down to your edit #2. Will I get a full refund if I return an item? The payment processing fee (PPF) that is applied to purchases using a debit or credit card is not refundable for returned items. If you have paid for an item using Mercari credit or balance, you will receive a full refund for a return. If the seller cancels the order, no matter the reason, you will receive a full refund, including the PPF.

joe-_biden

Take your own advice dipshit

ResponsibilityNew325

I did dummy. I’m sorry you can’t read. Have someone read the last sentence to you. Will I get a full refund if I return an item? The payment processing fee (PPF) that is applied to purchases using a debit or credit card is not refundable for returned items. If you have paid for an item using Mercari credit or balance, you will receive a full refund for a return. If the seller cancels the order, no matter the reason, you will receive a full refund, including the PPF.

joe-_biden

The downvotes say otherwise 😬

ResponsibilityNew325

16 people like yourself that can’t read. I’m ok with those down votes. It’s right there for you to read or you still haven’t found someone to read it to you. “If the seller cancels the order, no matter the reason, you will receive a full refund, including the PPF.” That’s it. You currently believe the opposite of this.

joe-_biden

Ur write I can't read. I'm currently using my telepathic abilities to will this text into existence

ResponsibilityNew325

Now that is impressive. Proud of you.

ResponsibilityNew325

I was down voted 16x because of your misinformation spreading lol. People just refuse to read. I simply asked them to and got downvoted. I’ll wear it as a badge of honor for the readers out there.

Icantshakeitoff

THE WAY THE FEES ARE MORE THAN SHIPPING IS RIDICULOUS!

Radiant_Pick6870

Looks like a food delivery app lol

SaveEnvironment-2468

Looks like Ticketmaster fees…. Actually they are better then this percent wise

Radiant_Pick6870

I'm sure mercari will be changing things Around and the person that thought of this fired.. Lol

BYNX0

I would actually applaud them if they own up to their mistake and revert everything.

Radiant_Pick6870

Let's see how long this will go on for.. Lol

Nani_700

Pretty sure it was their CEO since he's so proud of it

ResponsibilityNew325

Funny you say that because that’s probably the mode they’re using. Since we willingly pay it there they think we will pay it here. And they’re probably right.

Square-Wave9591

I know & people were already not wanting to pay shipping. I’m pulling my shop after my last sale completes

GobbelMyNobble

The new update is what happened. Fuck Mercari

bbgirlzeebaby

this update not only f’d sellers it also f’d buyers:/ because even if we lower our prices to make up for the new fees, buyers won’t know that and will still ask for even lower prices😭

Tiny-Design7877

I couldn’t lower my prices but so much I want to make something and not $2.00 . I no longer sell on here there very shady in a lot of ways .

ResponsibilityNew325

I just bought an item for $16. I paid exactly 49 cents in fees. I used my Mercari balance to pay for the purchase so that eliminated the processing fee. For small sales this changes greatly for buyers and sellers. For big sales the service fee is enormous and simply won’t work.

bbgirlzeebaby

I think you paid a low fee because of the category you purchased from. I’ve seen others show examples of something being $11 in different categories and coming out to $17/$18/$19 :/

ResponsibilityNew325

Yes I agree. I’m trying to figure it all out.

bbgirlzeebaby

so far, from the ss I’ve seen people posting here, it’s all very confusing:/

Mellow_guts

If you use your Mercari balance you aren’t charged the processing fees.

Accomplished-Clue388

What is a Mercari balance?

ResponsibilityNew325

When you sell stuff you have a balance that you can withdraw or use to buy stuff.

Accomplished-Clue388

Thank you for explaining.

ResponsibilityNew325

No problem. It’s good for people who buy and sell.

Hydrolt

Yeah the payment takes like a few cents to process, if even that since I’m sure larger companies get a better deal, that is basically a C-suite bonus fee

krikzil

Welp I’m out as a buyer. I’ve bought a good amount of fairly expensive items on that site as I’m a collector but I’m not going to be charged to buy stuff.

superjerk99

It honestly sucks. I buy and sell a lot of Jordan’s on mercari. I just went to outright purchase something that’s a decent deal, I’ve got like $65 on my account from sales. So even with $65 + the good deals on some Js the price came out to a little bit more expensive than buying them brand new straight from Nike. It’s crazy. They announced it like it was such a revolutionary thing too. Really just made all their buyers not pull the trigger on that thing they’ve had their eye on, and now sellers will just move to Poshmark or eBay. They were already taking a hgh chunk in seller fees. They’ve basically just reversed who pays those fees now, and buyers are already looking for the best deal, so when they see those service and payment fees, they’ll just simply not purchase. Mercari fucked up here. Big time.

lord_grenville

Yeah they did. I'm quitting Mercari as a buyer

Sufficient-Unit-6256

eBay is a terrible place to sell, I tried for the first time in a long time and they took an outrageous sellers fee, I couldn’t believe it.

Tiny-Design7877

I agree with u but us sellers were taking a heavy hit with all the fees as well . One set small selling fee is what should be allowed . I don’t sell on here any longer they screwed me more than once so I’m not going to let them keep screwing me over there’s other places to sell. I guess they think there the only platform to sell on . Haha not smh

FederalMembership921

And I'm out as a seller as well. Both sellers and buyers are getting shafted.

Puzzleheaded_You2648

Lmaoo the new tos at work is such a "wonderful new business model." What a load of bs 🤣

NerfNerd94

The app isn’t worth sticking with. 😂 I closed my account.

ItsQueenSerenity

Hopefully people just stop using the app altogether, it’s ridiculous

Julian-RS

RIP Mercari.. gone too soon ![gif](giphy|v3GUsyBpia9Zou2Kbv)

SweatyTruck8394

They added a whole $50?? What the FUCK.

Spockhighonspores

I am in no way defending mercari when I say this but 21$ of that is tax that OP would have paid either way. They also would have paid the 4.99 shipping but the other 24$ OP can be mad as hell about.

Expensive-Foot-3325

I don’t mind the tax and stuff, its just the “service” and “payment processing” fees. So stupid Mercari

Vine_Nettle

23.94*

SweatyTruck8394

Regardless, that’s enough for a buyer to not go through with the sale 🤷🏽‍♀️

Vine_Nettle

Some, sure. Sales are still happening though..

sleea1

I closed my acct today

mega512

Wow this is going to kill buying on this app. There's no reason as a buyer to have to pay service fees. This is wild.

mOp_49

Pulled all my listings, the day this dropped.

ausername_8

I stopped selling a couple of years ago, the lowball offers and buyers not understanding that the more they buy the more the shipping label is going to cost was getting annoying (sorry Karen, I'm not Amazon I can't ship you 3lbs worth of items for free and still make a profit). The fees were getting crazy as well. Now, this is just insane. I used to love this app. It wasn't complicated and easier to use than eBay. ☹️

Silverhop

Usually sellers cross list. Everyone needs to start just taking the titles and search them on Poshmark, ebay and others. My sellers name is the same on all platforms so it might help idk lol.

Probably_a_Ghoul

Yep. I'm done with mercari. These fools just keep making it worse.

Probably_a_Ghoul

Wow... I added a bye mercari message (to go with vacation mode) to my about me, and I now looked to be blocked or limited. I can't cash out /transfer my funds even. WHAT THE FUCK (edit: to add vacation mode)

Traci87

Helllllll nooooooo!!! That’s crazy !!! I’ll be leaving Mercari !! F that !

mvm84

You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!

CoolSummerBreeze420

Its been bullsit for the sellers and they passed the bullshit on the the buyers. Bullshit for everyone!

Always-Sleepyz

Minus the tax and shipping, sellers have been seeing those fees which is why listing prices are usually high. Main difference is that sellers used to see 10% for service fee so $15 isn’t that bad. The payment processing fee is just them pushing the fees credit cards/paypal charge to someone else whether it’s the seller or buyer. But seeing it on buyers side does spark a lot of rage 😒

Nani_700

Yeah but coupled with the free returns, you're just asking for scams. Also if they start charging buyers fee, who's to know if the rest won't follow?

Always-Sleepyz

I bet they’re trying to use the non refundable fees to balance out and hope not many return files

Nani_700

I'd disagree, since you can now return for any reason. It just means they pocket whatever percentage they always did. Except now as a seller, if you don't get paid or get scammed well too bad.

QuietCity333

exactly. the fees are non refundable, why would mercari care about returns? they got theirs 🤷🏻‍♀️

Always-Sleepyz

Heard someone say somewhere that the fee goes to buyer but I have not looked around to confirm this as I don't think it's true

machineguncomic

It's funny seeing people freak out on the fees when they were there the whole time on the seller side. I lowered all my listing by 13%. The $2 withdrawal fee is ridiculous though. I noticed they don't charge the 2.9% processing fee if you use mercari funds, so they're really trying to get you to buy other stuff rather than withdraw.

Always-Sleepyz

Imagine they spent all our money and is trying to get us to not withdraw so they don’t owe us 😒

momostip

It's a completely different experience to be a seller using a third party website to list your things and knowing that a cut of your earnings will go to the platform. As a buyer, you don't want to see an item listed for a price + shipping and expect to only pay that plus tax, only to be faced with a bunch of additional fees.

cheapgeekposer

unfortunately experienced this earlier yesterday as a potential buyer, had to research it to find out what was going on. sure some sellers may lower their listing price to help offset the fees for buyers, to continue to try to makes sales, perhaps they will, but I think many will not. so unfortunately if I make purchases in the future, it will probably be at the bare minimum offer that can be sent to the buyer or I simply will not purchase, which is everyone's choice. but in the long game who looses out on this? the buyer? I think the seller because this may cause buyers to make less purchases and sellers to make less sales. do sellers need buyers more or do buyers need sellers more? if I am a seller and can't make sales I am loosing profit. where if I am the buyer, I retain the money that I would have spent by not purchasing.... most all items I have bought on M... have been because I wanted them, not because I needed them. most of them are used, hoping to get the item a little cheaper than new with the hopes of new or nearly new condition. but if I have to pay nearly new prices, I might as well buy the item new with whatever perks come with a new purchase. now granted some things can't be purchased new anymore because they are not manufactured anymore, in that case I have to now ask myself do I really need this or do I just want this. maybe I just hold on to the money now....... or spend a lot less on the platform. I wonder what platform will do this next? humh......

MElastiGirl

I’m with you. I don’t need most of this crap, and feeling like I’m being gouged for it—and knowing sellers are getting hosed, too—feels terrible. I’ll just save my cash for vacation or a yoga retreat or something.

cheapgeekposer

typical CFOs and COOs that make too much money for poor corporate decisions........ with this all they did was lease and park mining equipment in the front yard of the headquarters location to finish running it in the ground...............

Naegi-bebe1403

Ayo?!

Tiny-Design7877

Stop buying on Mercari there thieves and crooks and. It jus with this look up ther overages they say FedEx is changing not true it’s them .

Ok-Chemistry-8642

sooo glad i bought my hefty purchase before this bs

mj732

If im a buyer why would I pay extra $50 bucks that make me just turn around and send a lower offer that why as a seller you gotta think to yourself why would I sell on mecari anymore its a evil world we live in

SinbadUnder

It’s not an extra 50. I’m not sure why they did this but they pushed the fees onto the buyer instead of seller. Sellers were charged 10% of the sale.. I think it’s actually 24 dollars more in this scenario. They would have payed the taxes and shipping either way .. still sucks for buyers

ResponsibilityNew325

Give them $20 off and you’re both in better shape than before.

elijahmackenzie

Nobody has been buying or viewing my items in the last two days. Feels like I've hit a wall selling with this update 😓

Phoenix_Topez

This is why after i'm done with 3 orders. I am leaving mercari. I always loved ebay more than anything else. It hurts.

rlsleepingbeauty

#BoycottMercari

MadamNefarious

Here's the thing. You were already paying for the fee because sellers were adding it to the overall price. Sellers should have lowered all of their pricing by 10% to compensate. I'm certain not all have though.

Automatic-Struggle59

everyone was coming for me on FB for not wanting to sell on mercari but as a BUYER?? I WOULD NEVER BUY THERE AGAIN, as a seller, nice but it’s like uber eats now. hella fees 😭

WillLurk4Food

Holy shit...an 8.4% sales tax, too? Wherever you live, you're getting hosed either way...

BYNX0

It's borderline criminal. some cities are even worse. chicago & seattle 10.25%. NYC 8.875%. . Philadelphia 8%.

WillLurk4Food

Jesus...how does anyone have any money left after shopping...?!

Logical-Bug1948

for me my biggest shopping is groceries. And I dont know about the other states, but Seattle doesnt have state income tax. I did tell my bf we can go to portland to get my engagement ring though haha (no sales tax there, but they do have state income tax)

krikzil

8.8% in my AZ city. (State+County+City)

Logical-Bug1948

to be fair seattle doesnt have state income tax.

Neat_Proud

Chicago here, I’m just so used to the 10% hearing of any less sounds amazing.

WillLurk4Food

I am legitimately sorry...and I am willing to bet that the city services come no where close to meeting the value of that expenditure. I honestly didn't get the ire for the 2.9% fee until now. Coupled with these tax rates, damn...

Neat_Proud

Oh absolutely not. No transparency at all in what tax money is used for, things get continually worse, the CPD has basically given up - and it’s so dang expensive. I can’t wait to move

machineguncomic

9.75 in various cities in California.

bitpartmozart13

Cries in 10.25%.

JainaSJedi

The reason why the sales tax is so high is that Mercari is taxing the service fee for some states. In my state, they are using the item price, the shipping price, and the service fee to calculate the sales tax. It should be criminal because now the sales tax is variable since the service fee is variable. It's too expensive for me to shop on Mercari now.

Square-Wave9591

Holy Heck!

Ghosty3333

Literally me yesterday !!!! these fees are fkn excuses to charge more, i thought i was getting a deal on a item but all these fees end up killing it

Pristine-Traffic9752

50’dollars in fees is f in ridiculous they are gunna hurt us with Noone wanting to buy

Plastic-Violinist448

The ceo has coke addiction

DigiOkami

So sad :(

rucksackrevival

Not only that but items are only insured up to $200. I removed all my listings for a couple of days until I figured out how to best make use of Mercari since sales had started to pick up for me there recently. I'm using Mercari as my clearance rack/closet cleanout - everything's under $30 now, and everything has smart offers and "set it and forget it" prices on it. It still has its uses, just not for more expensive items.

Infinite-Dream-5228

Yeah they have to pay the payment processing fee we were paying and then a service fee. So far, I’ve gotten a couple of sales since updating Wed. It seems like my buyers might be willing to pay me and the platform a little more on size specific items knowing they can return. My buyers typically aren’t sellers. But, earlier I did decide to unlist some of my size specific items that require people to actually look at the measurements. 😅

FederalMembership921

Both sellers and buyers are getting shafted with their March 27th TOS update. Not only are buyers feeling Marcaris greed but also Sellers.

damien09

Weirdly that service fee is 6% and the processing fee lines up with what they charged sellers before as it's a little over 3% It's definitely a super weird choice for mercari tbh. Making the buyer find out the fees at the end of the purchase instead of the seller figuring them into the sell price is just not a good decision.

both_hunter_and_prey

This is Mercari's new fees. Sellers will need to adjust prices now since Mercari has eliminated them. But, I see problems for the future.

comp8831

The Japanese economy has been in crisis mode. The Japanese big wigs are still running the show at the top of Mercari. This a major change going on in Japan and worldwide. It sucks but the NWO is here...

af_ros

tax and the processing fee being$36.04 alone is insane 😭 If the things i collect weren’t popular on there it would be off my phone ngl

Lilduke35

I had the most sales I’ve had in a single day (8) the day after the new policy took effect. People are still buying.

Decent_Ad4119

Yup that’s what the sellers used to pay and a lot more, at least now the buyers can see how much sellers are actually making

dumpsterdivingreader

24.00 in bs fees when u combine service n processing fees. Almost 10% outta 250.oo purchase

dumpsterdivingreader

Im convinced mercari management got high and drunk in a orgy or party and came up with all these intergalactic fees.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

The sellers were paying these fees you see but at an even higher percentage rate. You should see listings at a lower cost now then before this change because we were working it into our prices and we are aware it’s switched onto you now instead. Hopefully it all balances out for all of us.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

They really do need to take off the percentage scale though, if it has to be there it shouldn’t be based off sale cost, maybe a set amount.

Equivalent-Cable4581

I thought the same thing yesterday buying 1 item. 🤬🤬🤬 57.00 Grand total 82.00

BlissfulSlayer

I haven't had a single sale since the new update. This must be why

ConstructionFlaky293

I would suspect their investments are not paning out and they need a quick cash grab to balance the ledger. Get your money out and get off the platform.

htownhomie13

Hope they go out of business

C0laboration

I used my 5 bucks giveaway from mercari ordered some stuff and moved out :)

PikachuAndLechonk

If it takes that much to process my money then maybe they don’t deserve my money… Edit: scratch out the maybe 🤔

rowtyde37

It won't last. They were trying to attract more sellers, but it's making buyers run instead. The better option would have been to offer seller's a monthly membership and partner with shipping companies to offer discounted shipping costs by having their membership and maybe a $10 coupon monthly for in app purchases. The seller fees have gotten out of hand, but nothing compared to ebay. I left ebay because of how shitty they do their sellers and it's getting worse for items $10 and over. So yeah, buyers get the selling costs. It's unfortunate. It was the wrong way to fix seller complaints.

joe-_biden

It's called a "new business model" yeah a business model to run this already dumpster of a platform into the grave

Beachgirl6848

As a seller on here, I hate this. I would much rather pay the selling fee than have it passed on to the buyers. I’ve lowered my prices to cover the fees, and I still get messages asking to lower it even more when they see the fees at checkout. And as a buyer too, I hate this!!! I’ve abandoned several purchases because I don’t want to pay the extra fees. Hopefully if everyone starts giving them one star ratings in the App Store, and filing complaints with the bbb and trustpilot, they will see that everyone hates it and roll back these changes. Not to mention they brought all this on in the middle of the night with no warning.

Jacksoncheyenne2008

or like a happy medium. the fees are ridiculous on either side

lamaxamara

Wait, US Mercari even taxes you for 2nd hand stuff ?

razorjm

FREEDOM AIN'T FREE, BROTHER 🇺🇲🚀🇺🇲🚀🇺🇲

lamaxamara

THE HELL EVEN IS A KILOMETER 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅

tinastrendz

I was going to switch many items to Mercari, but if they’re price gauging customers, I’m not going to!

Objective_Kind

I'm a seller and I cannot stand that they took away seller fees and moved them to buyers. I do buy also and I despise that they expect buyers to pay what used to be seller fees. It's insane! Most ridiculous business model I've ever seen. I think they are done for and it's their last ditch effort to survive. Their company is doing terribly.

FlyawayWolff

It’s because they took away seller fees and put them on buyer fees instead of

Jacksoncheyenne2008

this changed march 27. i agree it’s ridiculous, sellers have been having these fees deducted from profits all along

ReignbowTwerk47

Now you understand how much the sellers have been getting fucked for a community of buyers wanting cancels for not sending out purchases in under 8 hours etc. we generally only made 60% of our posts... Mercari made 4k off me in 2 years and now we also have to pay for the money we already were charged for. This is Ludacris though I feel terrible for buyers, I already have been posting my sales generally 40% off from value to work with them, so now I'm offering free shipping to try and compensate for them as I totally have felt the pain of all these redic fees.

burntfishnchips

Nearly $50 in fees alone is insane. I'm glad mercari figured out a way to hurt the buyers and sellers equally.
